Anti-lock braking system is ineffective when a sudden stop needs to be made. Also, brakes will begin to grap, then release. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details. Consumer was almost involved in three collisions.

While traveling at 55 mph another vehicle pulled out in front of consumer's vehicle, consumr depressed brake pedal with force, causing wheels to lock up. Consumer lost control of vehicle, and ran into other vehicle. Please provide further information.

Abs brakes lock up unexpectedly and without any prior warning. Dealer has not found reason for defect or remedy consumer stated he experiences lock up on dry pavement and dry weather, and turning becomes difficult.

39 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/23/2001

While decelerating in and applying brakes, rear wheels lost traction and skided. Driver released brake pedal and reapplied in an attempt to slow down on exit ramp and entering curve at approx. 40 mph rear wheels lost traction and started to skid to left. Driver regained control. Several miles later in heavy stop and go traffic and driving at approx. 35-40 mph driver applied brakes to stop behind a group of cars making panic stop. Driver was approx. 4 car lengths behind vehicle on wet pavement after driving approx. 1. 5 hours on rainy roads. Brakes locked twice, and would not allow driver to turn out causing driver to skid into other vehicle.

While applying brakes brake pedal went to the floor without any warning, causing a collision with a parked vehicle. Insurance company was notified, and informed consumer to make this report with NHTSA. Consumer states steering was pulling to the right while driving and also states that insurance did not investigate accident correctly.

Was driving vehicle 25mph on back road which was slightly to the left. Started turning steering wheel to follow road, and had no steering. Had to slam on brakes to stop, but vehicle failed to stop in time. Vehicle kept straight, and went up an embankment. This caused vehicle to flip over. Owner tried to brace himself by putting arm out, and vehicle rolled over owner's hand. Had emergency treatment. The pitman arm came loose from the steering box.

Accelerator pedal got stuck, forcing vehicle to go 35mph. When brakes were applied vehicle attempted to slow down, but kept going. Speed did not increase. Vehicle was shut off to stop. Dealer noified of problem. Please add more information.

Whenever towing a boat brakes heat up, resulting in extended stopping distance . Contacted dealer ,and the dealer was not willing to do anything. Consumer states when towing a 4000lbs boat in city traffic for more than 30 minutes the brake heats up and the anti lock system shuts off, results in extended stopping distance, the vehicle must be taken to dealer to reset the abs system, dealer refused to do anything because when they tested the vehicle, without the boat the brakes worked fine, and when they tested the abs the testing always reset the abs. 8jb.

While driving at 10 mph brakes went out when trying to stop. Consumer stated pedal went to the floor. The dealer could not find the cause of the problem but there was an accident twice.

While driving on road consumer stepped on gas and pedal got stuck. Consumer could not press on brake to slow vehicle down. So consumer put vehicle in nuetral, and finally stopped vehicle. Contacted dealer, and dealer replaced throttle body.

I was driving 25 mph and tried to stop. I pushed my brakes the brake pedal went clear to the floor and did nothing, I pushed them a second time and the same thing happened. The third time I pushed the brakes they worked. But it was to late. I ran right into another vehicle. I had my breaks looked at three times and each time they said that they checked out okay. If it was really okay how come my brakes didn't work?.

Brake pedal is very inconsistant, and pedal will go almost to the floor, also the brake pedal never feels like a good pedal. The brakes give a very unsafe feel at all speeds, the dealer was informed of my problem, they looked at them and informed me that it was a known problem and that the brakes in the expeditions were the same way, however they said there was nothing they could. After speaking with Ford's cutomer service they informed me that if I felt safety was a problem to take it back the the dealer. No success again, I then had a brake safety inspection completed at a local maintence facility and they could not find anything that appeared wrong however agreed that the brakes were insufficient for safe stopping. I then wrote Ford customer service informing them of my complete dissatisfaction in the brakes and asked for any options that may be available to fix the problem and have not received a response as of 10 months later. I truely hope that your offices can be of assistance, I honestly feel that my safety and my family's safety is at risk each time I drive the vehicle.

Consumer was traveling 45mph & hit a bump while braking and anti-lock braking system shut down. Consumer coasted 600feet before bringing it to a stop. This has happened before & after . Was somewhat warned, but could determine cause. The switch on the rear end is a possible cause of the problem. When the vehicle has a load, the problem goes away.

The brakes wore out prematurely and the repair shop said that the original equipment rotor discs were already under (less than) specification when manufactured (ie. The incorrect spec. Was installed). Also, the rear anti-lock brakes do not work. Independently or combined, these conditions have resulted in poor braking resulting in numerous running of stop signs and near rear end collisions with vehicles or collisions with curbs, signs, etc.

While driving, I would come up to a stop sign or light and apply the brakes and the left rear brake would lock up. I took it in and they looked at the brakes and said they were ok. I went to leave and it did it again. I went back in and told them that they were still doing it and they said that it was normal for the abs to do that. I went back the next day and they adjusted the brakes and now they do what they are suppose to do. It could be possible that one of the self adjusters might not be working.

While driving in town and approaching a stop sign or light, applied brakes, left rear wheels locked up and vehicle slid. Contacted dealer, they cleaned the brakes, and couldn't find any problem. While leaving the lot, vehicle started to do the same thing. Service consultant said that wheels were supposed to lock up when wet. For now problem has been solved by making adjustments to the rear brakes.

My braking problem has occurred on several occasions. The first was 2/26/2000, also 3/1/2000, 7/13/2000,12/6/2000, 2/2/2001, 4/19/2001,. The problem seems to be the brakes pulsate when braking. But mostly they lock up, and also they will sometimes not work for a second or two then they will lock up. This has occured on numerous occasions, almost resulting in accidents.
