1 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/14/2023

While driving brake pedal went to the floor, after that brake light came on, unable to stop, move to the side of the road and stopped with parking brake slowly. Upon inspection no brake fluid at reservoir and no external leaks. Brake fluid went to brake booster. Upon research Ford has a recall to address the same complain, but my VIN is not part of the recall. Went to dealer and called Ford, and they could not help by stating that my VIN is not part of the recall , even if the year is part of it the VIN is not. My f150 VIN is 1ftfw1et1dfd00487 my name rodolfo rodriguez. Turborudy@hotmail. Com.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/04/2021

We purchased our 2001 f150 supercrew used. I am a mechanic, so the first thing I do when buying a used vehicle is inspect it thoroughly. There were a few minor issues, but one stood out as a major safety hazard. Upon further research, it seems to be extremely common to all 1997-2003 F-150s. Symptoms - this issue mainly affects the rear left and right brake lights, turn signals, and hazard lights. These lights, particularly brake lights, can cease to function entirely, intermittently and unknown to the driver. Cause - there is a wire harness which connects to the "multi - function switch". This wire harness is pulled when the steering wheel is tilted down. As a result, the connector or individual terminals can become loose or disconnected. This problem is most prevalent with the steering wheel in the down position, but once loose can happen at any position and any driving situation. Solution - repair or replace with motorcraft part# wpt607, and ensure the harness has enough slack to allow steering wheel tilt without tension on the harness. In our case, I replaced the connector and pulled the wires enough to allow slack for steering wheel tilt. There are numerous reports of this issue online, and it is well documented by f150 owners. I have pictures but the file sizes are over 5mb.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

Sudden brake failure. Warning message came on that I was low on brake fluid while driving on a divided highway between towns. After hitting ok, red brake light warning remained on. Within a minute I lost most braking ability. I pulled over but saw no leaks under the truck. Walked to a napa dealer and bought brake fluid and filled reservoir. Got some brake ability back but with in a few minutes, brake pedel went to the floor and very minimal braking ability. Still no leak found under the truck. I can not use the truck with limited brakes. Ford recall #20s31 should include my 2016 model but for some reason does not- even though model, make, year and symptoms the same as outlined in the recall. I was lucky not to have been invoved in a high speed accident.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

While driving on suburban highway the low brake fluid warning alerted and the brake warning light illuminated. The brake pedal travel increased and eventually lost almost all braking effect. The vehicle was parked and towed to a repair facility where it was determined that the master cylinder failed and leaked into the booster. A check of the VIN indicated that it was not included in the existing recall for this same problem.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

I was driving down the road and applied the brakes, the brake peddle went to the floor without any brakes being applied. Almost hit a few cars and drove over the curb. Downshifted and depressed my e break!!!! my brakes do not work. No brake fluid external leaks anywhere. Brake fluid reservoir was 90% empty. Check brake fluid light came on. I filled break fluid reservoir and 10 break peddle pumps latter the break fluid was gone from break fluid reservoir.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/30/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while in a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed to shift from park to drive, after releasing the pedal the vehicle was coasting in the parking lot, the brake was depressed again and travelled to the floorboard. The contact stated he had to swerve from colliding with another vehicle. The parking brake was applied to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was shifted to park and turned off. The brake fluid level and parking brake warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he exited the vehicle and upon opening the hood discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. The contact stated that he parked the vehicle and went to autozone for brake fluid. The brake fluid was added to the vehicle, the vehicle was restarted, the brake pedal was depressed several times until the brakes was operational. The contact drove to his residence, where the vehicle was parked with the parking brake applied. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while stopping on a hill. The vehicle was driven back to the residence. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v332000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to remedy the failure was not available. The vehicle was towed to the dealer fritts Ford (8000 auto dr, riverside, CA 92504) where it was awaiting diagnosis and repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/27/2020

Complete brake failure. Entered vehicle in morning and pedal went to floor. Popped hood and checked fluid (fine). Got back in vehicle and attempted to move it a few feet - pumped brakes - no stopping force - after 2 - 3 pumps the brake fluid light came on - stopped engine and rechecked fluid (had dropped about 1 inch - was not below min) - big pool of brake fluid under rh front wheel. Had (day before) just completed long trip through mountains (steep canyons) - feel lucky to be alive!.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/05/2020

I noticed a small round plastic part on my drivers side floor mat that appeared to be a flat disk broken in several pieces. See photo. I didn't think too much about it at the time. A while later my neighbor said my brakes lights were on and my truck had been parked for a quite some time. After not being able to get the brake lights to go out and some internet queries I was able to determine and confirm the small plastic disk came off the top of the brake pedal where it would make contact with the brake light switch. As small of a part as it is, the brake lights were affected and the hill assist function warning was coming on as well. After checking Ford does not sell the tiny plastic disk, worth about 5 dollars, but will sell the entire brake pedal assembly for hundreds. Other auto manufacturers sell the disk called a brake pedal stop pad. This problem is occurring on other Fords as I was able to find examples like mine on the internet. There should be a better designed part or brake pedal to prevent this from happening.

9 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

The car was parked in the parking lot. I started to back up and found I had no brakes. The brake pedal went to the floor and I was unable to stop the truck. The truck then ran into the vehicle in a parking behind the truck. The brakes were checked by lieut. Edwards of the police department and he found it there were no brakes and there was no fluid in the master cylinder. I observed that the brake fluid reservoir for the front brakes was completely empty and the reservoir for the rear brakes had slightly visible fluid in the reservoir. Prior to the event there was no warning indicator on the dashboard or any other warning that the brakes were going to fail. The brake pedal would go completely to the floorboard when pushed. The Ford f150 bumper was significantly damaged and the parked car was slightly damaged. We are now in the mountains of north georgia and if had we been going down the road to the valley we possibly been seriously injured or worse. I reported a previous event with this truck to you folks last year relating to the computer system that controls just about everything on the truck causing a complete shutdown of the vehicle. At that time I was driving down the mountain road and fortunately I was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle at that time was towed away for repairs as we did this time after the brake failure. It is my understanding that the break fluid reservoirs have level indicators that should give some warning. They apparently are inoperable.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/17/2020

While driving my 2015 Ford f150 on a city street at 45 miles per hour the vehicle lost acceleration, rmp dropped to barely 2 and hill assist disabled light came on. Glided to a red light, put the vehicle in neutral, came to a stop and kept the gas lightly pressed hoping to keep power to the engine. When lighted turned green put truck back into drive and acceleration returned. Parked at my place of business. Shut the truck off but the brake lights stayed on. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership because of concern to drive it after losing acceleration (tow truck driver call the vehicle in limp mode). The dealership found not fault codes but did find plastic pieces on the floor board. Dealership said it was a "broken brake pedal" - a small plastic disc (grommet) inside the brake assembly broke into pieces causing loss f acceleration, the electronic messaging system to disable hill assist and the brake lights to remain on. Dealership said they have seen this in Ford fusions but not in an f150. The new brake assembly is a total redesign from the the one that the vehicle was built with. The image on the left is the broken brake assemble (the finger is pointing to the damaged item), the part on the right where you will see the small white disc (grommet) is the replacement brake assembly. I purchased the vehicle new in 2015 and have been the only owner. My vehicle has 54k miles, is driven locally, not used to tow or off road and is garaged when not in use. A vehicle loosing acceleration while driving is a major safely concern and I hope this will be investigated as it is a known issue in other Ford vehicles.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

My truck was serviced with complete fluids and systems check on July 2nd, 2020 reporting everything in the green check zone. Saturday August 1st, 2020 while returning from a family trip, the brake warning light came on indicating a brake problem. The brakes were applied to ensure that they were working and when applied, there was no braking power and the pedal went straight to the floor. When we were finally able to stop we rolled into a gas station and opened the hood to check the brake fluid level and it was empty. So we purchased two bottles of brake fluid to refill the reservoir thinking that maybe the service person forgot to refill the brake fluid. Once we filled the reservoir and pumped the brakes a bit they got tight so we got back on the road. As soon as we pulled onto the road and began to drive the brake warning signal came on again. Again, we pulled over to check for leaks, which there were none. And again, the brake reservoir was empty. Again we purchase more brake fluid and additional bottles and refill the reservoir to the fill line. We drove around the parking lot quite a bit before we decided to get back on the road due to the vehicle seeming to function normally. At this point we enter the highway and drove to our area near the dealer. When exiting the highway a great deal of smoke came from the back of our car that smelled like brake fluid. We pulled over and again there was nothing leaking. We still seemed to have some breaking ability so drove the truck to the car dealership to park it for them to take a look at to do repairs. Upon doing some research I saw that Ford motor company just announced the beginnings of a recall on June 6 for this same problem on this year vehicle.

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/24/2020

Upon moving vehicle to raod, low brake fluid light appeared. There was no brake pressure and brake pedal went all the way to floor. Vehicle would not stop!. After looking under hood, little to no brake fluid in reservoir. Filled it up and attempted to drive. Brake pedal still very soft and after 1/4 mile drive, brakes had no power again. No leaking is visible. Let vehicle sit for two days after filling up fluid reservoir and it is now almost completely empty.

13 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

Driving down the highway at 60mph and out of no where the low brake fluid light came on the dash screen. Pushed on the brake and it went to the floor, pumping the brake did not help. Was able to manually down shift and stop with the e brake. Lucky I was not in any traffic.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/23/2020

While driving my low brake fluid light came on immediately followed by complete, not partial, complete brake failure. I was lucky enough to be able to downshift some and continue straight. This is a serious problem. Luckily the roadway traveled was not heavy with traffic, had to downshift and roll through stop signs to get home.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

I was on my way to work at app. 4:20 a. M. When my low brake fluid light started to chime. About 1 mile from work. The closer I got I noticed my brakes were not working properly the closer I got the worse the brakes got. Pedal went to the floor and I am not stopping. . Scary. Thank god no traffic was around. Got in parking lot at work where it coasted to a stop. . Called a tow truck and had towed to a Ford dealership. . Seal blew out of master cylinder and filled brake booster. Causing brake not to work. Thank god I was by myself. The day before(Sunday)the whole family and I were out just enjoying the day. . We were on the highway, state routes, neighborhood streets. To think what might have happened to us and or somebody else. . Even now after the truck has been fixed I do not feel safe . What if it happens again? what if I am not so lucky the next time?.

16 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

I was driving and the low brake fluid warning light came on and started alarming and then went off. The parking brake light remained on and I checked my brakes and they were okay. I made it a few miles on a 4 lane major highway and started to put my brakes on to slow down and get into a turn lane to turn left and my brake peddle went to the floor. I realized I wasn't going to be able to make the turn so I made sure it was going to be safe to remain straight and I started down shifting to slow down and then started slowly applying the emergency brake as I was exiting off the shoulder of the road. I was able to safely stop. I checked my brake fluid reservoir and it was empty. I had no leaks under my vehicle. I got some help from my dad and ended up driving it to the local Ford dealership. I burned through 1 gallon of brake fluid getting it there. I found out that the brake fluid was going from the reservoir to the brake booster and then vacuum to the engine and being burned up that way.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/29/2020

I was merging onto highway 44 in st. Louis from lindberg blvd. I applied the brakes to allow an 18 wheeler to pass. Suddenly the low brake fluid light came on the dash and the parking brake. I started losing pressure on my brake peddle as it went almost completely to the floor. I was pulling a trailer at the time and used the trailer brakes to come to a stop safely on the side of the road. I looked under the hood and my brake fluid was almost completely empty. When I took the car into dobbs auto they stated that the master brake cylinder leaked into the brake booster causing almost complete loss of braking. Thankfully, I had the trailer otherwise this could have caused an accident. I don't have the repair invoice yet, but I will be happy to forward it once I pick up my truck. Thanks of.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/21/2020

Started truck up on 5/21 in garage and noticed brake light on console came on indicating issue. Brake pedal when depressed went all the way to the floor. Checked fluid level and it was nearly empty. I added a bottle of dot 4 brake fluid and pumped brakes. It seemed to hold for a small amount of time. I checked fluid reservoir again and it was nearly empty again. I visually check under vehicle to see if there was a noticeable leak. None was noticed.

19 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/30/2020

While driving interstate, 65 mph, towing travel trailer (6500 lbs). Clear weather day, 72 degrees. Brake light warning light illuminated. When trying to exit interstate to investigate issue, experienced complete brake failure, both front and rear. Fortunately, I was able to use trailer electronic brakes to stop my vehicle. Upon inspection, I found no loss of brake fluid. No visible explanation for total brake failure.

20 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/08/2020

While driving my local roads at about 45 mph I received a warning on the dash for "low brake fluid" followed by a solid lit brake light on the dash. I made it home with noticeably spongy brake pedaling. I opened the hood to see the brake fluid reservoir was empty down to the sensor connected on the side. I filled it with the appropriate brake fluid to just below the max line. I pumped the brake pedal until it felt normal again. It has not moved since yesterday (April 8 2020). Today (April 9 2020), I go to take a short trip for coffee. When I start the truck and touch the brake pedal it went immediately to the floor with no resistance. Without attempting to move the truck, I immediately popped the hood and saw that the reservoir was completely empty this time. Overnight it appears that the entirety of the brake res. Was drained and it had not been driven since being topped off. No leaking under the truck nor on the driveway has been noticed. It is being towed to Ford dealer service department today for this brake issue. I'm lucky I was not going at higher speeds when this occurred seemingly so abruptly. I hope it's fixed and recalled soon. My Ford dealer informs me that it's not currently covered under a recall.

21 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/26/2020

I am on the parkway low fluid brakes light comes on, I click ok it goes off the brake light is on . 1/4 mile I get off at the next exit and have no brakes all the way to the floor. I push the parking/ emergence brake . I slow down to the light. Turn on the street go to 1 mile away using the emergency brake. Check fluid it is low? purchase fluid fill snd pump brakes get pedal. Drive about 1 mile brake light comes on no brakes pull over fluid is gone again no leaks wheels anywhere, going into motor I guess and burning out the exaust. Smoking. For dealer has here in savannah. I have read complaints about this same issue. Not much warning 20 seconds to the ramp then no brakes? any information would be appreciated.

22 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/29/2019

I was driving down the highway at 60 mph a car pull over into lane in front of me? I stepped on the brakes and they were as hard as a rock, luckily I steered to the aide of the highway and down shifted till the truck came to a rolling stop, the brake and the parking brake light are on and the brakes were still as hard as a rock , I tried shutting the truck off and restarting, and still the same result, I put the truck in drive after awhile and kept messing with it pushing as hard as could on the brake pedal and I got a little bit of brakes , after driving a few miles they started working again, now I'm afraid waiting wondering if it's not gonna work again, it's dangerous, it's my main vehicle and most of my family randomly uses it. I've had a lot of problems with this truck.

23 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

Extremely hard brake pedal, vehicle will not stop easily in normal braking conditions, if pedal is pumped repeatedly red brake light and check brake system warning appear. If key is cycled on then off warnings go away but brake pedal feels the same. After extensive research I found vacuum pump (non electric) leaking oil. I replaced it and the same issues still happen. I've found 2 recalls that don't apply to my truck. One recall states the master cylinder seal is leaking which causes the brake pedal to go to the to floor. The other is a stiff pedal but that one was for an electric vacuum pump issue. Please help before Ford kills me. Also. I asked my local dealership (bell Ford) for tsbs regarding this and was denied the information. This should be classified as a safety recall that never ever expires!!!!!!!!!.

24 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/19/2019

As I was driving on the highway, I got a warning on my dash saying the brake fluid level was low, accompanied by the brake light illuminating on the dash. As I went to pull over to a safe location, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor when I pressed the pedal. At this point I had no power from my brakes, having to stop by downshifting and using the emergency brake. Upon inspection there was a very small amount of brake fluid in the reservoir and no visible signs of a leak or broken brake lines. I purchased brake fluid and refilled the reservoir. Within 2 miles the warning illuminate again with the brake pedal going to the floor. I had to have my truck towed to the dealership for repairs after this incident.

25 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/22/2019

I started my truck in the garage and went to put it into gear and the brake pedal went to the floor and a flashing brake light came on with a fluid low signal. I checked the fluid it was low. I put more fluid in it and pushed the pedal again gone again. I checked all brake lines under the truck not a leak anywhere. I'm ordering a new booster and master cylinder the fluid went into the booster. I believe this was a recall in the 2013 -14 f150 but Ford told me there isn't a recall in 2016??.

26 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

The brakes on my Ford f150 went out completely, while driving. The time from brake light to no brakes was about 3-4 minutes. I had to use the emergency brake to maneuver. Fortunately I was turning into a gas station. Although a recall has been created for 2013-2014 Ford f150 for the exact issue with my truck, my truck is not a part of the recall (brake master cylinder leaking into the brake booster). This is very dangerous. I had no brakes. I asked the Ford service provider if they report the issue, and the response was they do not. I am concerned that there are other drivers out there who will have their brakes go out while driving. Please review this immediately so that others will know there is a possibility their brakes could go out. I am attaching the service detail. I was told that the brake master cylinder just has a faulty part that went bad. How does that happen to a brake system? not sure what would have happened if my wife or son had been driving.

27 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/12/2019

Started the vehicle and immediately received an error message stating the brake fluid reservoir had low fluid. The brake warning light was also activated. When the brake pedal was depressed it went all the wall to the floor. Refilled the reservoir and restarted the vehicle. Moved the vehicle and pressed the brake pedal, which went to the floor. Received another brake activated and low brake fluid warnings again. I have had the vehicle towed to beechmont Ford, cincinnati, OH for diagnosis and repair. Awaiting their findings.

28 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

I depressed brake pedal to start truck. Once truck started the pedal went all the way to the floor and the brake warning light on the dash illuminated. Tried moving the truck a couple feet to see if I had brakes, and the truck did not stop when the pedal was depressed. Used the emergency brake to stop. Checked the master cylinder, it was empty. I added about 10 oz. Of brake fluid, pumped up the brakes and it worked. Drove about 8 minutes to work, brakes ok. I returned to the truck after work, about 10 hours and the pedal went to the floor again and no brakes. I filled master cylinder again and was able to drive home. I drove very slowly and carefully because I expected to brakes to fail at any time. I live 5 miles from work. If it was any more I would have had the truck towed. I will have it towed to the dealer in the morning.

29 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/30/2019

Vehicle was pulling a light-weight trailer when all of a sudden the brakes would not work. We glided over to the edge of the highway and drifted until we were able to slow. The brakes would work slightly when pressed extremely hard. The brake failure lights appeared. We have a 2013 f150 with the exact problems as the recalled trucks--but, our VIN/truck is not included.

30 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/24/2019

Was driving and came to a stop light brake warning light lit on dash and pedal went to the floor. Had to use emergency brake to come to a stop. Very carefully tool back roads home as to not have to use brakes any more than needed. Next morning found master cylinder leaking into brake booster. The f150 has 116,000 miles. If I wasn't driving this could have been a major wreck or serious injuries.

31 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

While driving in downtown traffic on a city street, the low brake fluid indicator came on as well as the brake warning light. The brake pedal went nearly to the floor and braking ability was severely diminished. I happened to be close to an auto parts store so I filled up the fluid reservoir with approximately 24 oz. Of brake fluid. Within about 3 miles the lights came on and brakes failed again. My wife brought more brake fluid to me and I added approximately 24 oz. More. I barely made it home, another 5 miles, as the brakes were failing and the reservoir was empty again. There is no sign of a leak. After checking online and discussing with a Ford service representative, this appears to be a common defect where a seal in the master cylinder has failed and the brake fluid is being sucked into the brake booster.

32 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/17/2019

Total loss of brakes, almost got into an accident. Brake light warking suddenly came on, pulled over to check, empty brake fliud, fillled up the brake fluid, in 10 minutes all the brake fluid is gone. No signs of leak on the floor. Towing it back to the hpuse.

33 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

Takata recall master cylinder leaking by low brake fuild lights goes on find no visible leaks. Found recall of this problem but no active recall on my VIN number. Not sure if it was fixed but is now a problem and I would like to get it fixed before I end up in an accident with my children in car. Primary vehicle so drive it a lot. Thanks.

34 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

While driving the 2015 f150 3. 5 liter 6-cylinder with 17,000 miles on a city street at 30mph, the brake fluid light illuminated. Within the next mile the vehicle experienced a total failure of the brake system; the red brake light came on and the pedal went completely to the floor. Using the emergency brake and low gear, I was able to narrowly avoid crashing into stopped vehicles ahead of me. The Ford dealership's mechanic initially diagnosed the issue as a failed brake sensor. Replacing the sensor, however, failed to correct the problem. As I now understand it, the brake booster seals were ruined by a leaking master cylinder although no fluid was ever seen under the vehicle prior to this event.

35 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/27/2019

Upon pulling out of parking space, low brake fluid light came on and brake pedal lost all pressure. Went back into store to purchase more brake fluid. Refilled and low fluid light came back on before leaving parking lot. Drove to another lot and refilled reservoir as it was empty again. No signs of external leaks. Upon viewing other identical complaints, I believe it is leaking into brake booster, which has not yet been recalled for this model year. F150 only has 61,000 miles.
