The consumer's vehicle was at a red light and heard a loud popping noise from the underneath the hood. Upon acceleration the vehicle began to shake. The consumer pulled over to inspect the vehicle and discovered a spark plug was lying on top of the engine. The consumer later drove the vehicle to a repair shop. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and consulted a Ford dealer. The mechanic used a heel coil to resolve the problem as suggested by the Ford dealer. The vehicle could not be completely repaired due to a lack of tools to set the timing chain on the vehicle. Ford did not have these special tools available to the public. No further repairs could be made by the mechanic at this time. (12/02/05).

39 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/02/2004

My f150 p. U. Has a stress crack in the curve of the door by the window. The latch is not tight enough, so the door is hard to shut. My windshield wipers turn on by themselves, the odometer light goes on & off, the seat belts do not recoil & the "door ajar" light gets stuck, eventhough all doors are reshut. Engine sometimes runs rough eventhough has just had 60,000 mile check. The Ford dealership wants to charge me for new part to fix odometer light $300+plus labor, $58 for door part+labor. Haven't talked to them about "rough running", I'm sure they'll want more $$ to fix it too.

40 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/12/2004

While driving , suddenly the vehicle started shaking. The repair shop performed a diagnostic and indicated that it could be the spark plugs. The spark plugs were replaced, but didn't correct the problem. The butterfly to the fuel injection on the passenger side of the engine motor froze and stopped the flow of the fuel, which caused damage to the fuel injection thus damaging the timing belt, and piston. The entire engine motor fell apart from the inside out per the mechanic.

It was later determined that a bolt sheared off the harmonic balancer. As a result there was damage to the harmonic balancer, water pump pulley, belt tensioner pulley and drive belt.

45 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/31/2002

There was no accident. We turned the key on to start the engine and the rod went through the engine and oil pan. There were no lights indicating any problems. The veh did not use any oil. It recieved its oil changes regularly. It had been running just fine. They put a new engine in it and now it vibrates makes a popping noise and runs loud. They told us this is all within Ford specs. This should not have happened. We paid over $13000 for a veh that took a dump after 10 months. We could not even get this dealers sale manager to return a call. Everyone else at the dealer said well it worked good for 10000 miles. I called Ford and they gave me a case number and that is it. They also did nothing for us. I am getting no where with anyone. I finally went over there and cornered the manager and he says he doesn't remember and I should call him on Monday. Which I will. Also they tried to stick us with an extra $1100 bill for something that was not the problem with the shifting gear. We ended up putting a new clutch in also at this time. We had this problem when we bought it and they told us that there was nothing wrong that it ground going into 2nd gear becasue we were going to fast. Actually the clutch cleared that problem. They tryed to say it was the syncronation gears and they needed to be repalced. Which was not true. The clutch fixed this problem. They also at this time are not paying for this even though we bought it that way and I brought that up at the time we test drove it. I feel they need to be checked out and also I am wondering if this falls under the lemon law. We would be willing to give the vehicle back if they are not willing to stand behind there defective engine. I was unsure of what you were talking about with the 2 pt belt , 3 point belt or manufacture belt so I did not check anything. Thank you chris pauley.

46 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/08/2002

I have had nothing but problems with the fuel injection system. The deal did fix the first problem but ignored complaints that the problem was still not fixed. At 36000 miles the drive belt went out and still there was problems w/ injectors . Now dealers will not honor warranty becasue current mileage is 36900 even though they put the first 1,234 when the truck was bought new.

47 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

I am sending in a full letter to explain the "failures". It centers around TSB 99b29 and lack of owner notification of a bad front cover design that can lead to engine failure, which occurred in this case. Additionally, I had a tie rod failure that was not addressed under warranty, but later broke while driving. Also, my crank shaft pulley / dampener assembly fell off while highway driving (70 mph). There are other issues including door lock / key sticking. Campaign id number : 03v196000 component: steering:gear box:shaft sector. The engine cover gasket failed. The serpentine failed, the transmission had an akward shift, the wipers operated periodically by themselves on high speed, there was little heat coming from the vents through the floor.
