2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/22/2021

For the 3rd time while I was driving my 2020 f150 stx with only 4,218 miles the engine shut off completely and displayed auto startstop shift to p, then restart engine on the dash display. The last time this happened was on 4/22/21 I was driving through a street going about 20 mph. Fortunately, there were no vehicle in front of me or behind me and I was not trying to turn at an intersection which could have resulted in a collision. The same thing had happened on 3/18/21 while driving on a street going about 15 mph. And the first time this happened was on 2/20/21 I was pulling in to my driveway so stopping and doing so was not a safety problem. I am really concerned about this problem I felt very unsafe in my truck if this problem doesn't get resolved people can get in to an accident and get seriously injured or killed. I did some research online and also checked my VIN for any recalls and I was surprised to not find any. From researching online forums the auto start/stop function appears to be faulty and needs to be fixed/recalled before someone is seriously injured or killed. This issue appears to be widespread and across multiple model years. On 4/24/21 I took my truck to the dealership where I purchased it the tech called me and told me that they ran several tests and the truck did not give any problem codes. For safety dealership said they did not want me to drive truck so they would keep it and would contact Ford to report issue and wait for their recommendation. I'm still waiting for update. I hope Ford takes this issue seriously and does a recall.

While I was driving through a parking lot, and turning slightly left, the engine shut off completely and displayed "auto startstop shift to p, then restart engine" on the dash display. Fortunately, I was not trying to turn and cross traffic on a highway which could have resulted in a catastrophic t-bone collision. The auto start/stop function appears to be faulty and needs to be fixed/recalled before someone is seriously injured or killed. Vehicle was slowing at an intersection with foot on brake. Lifted foot off and moved to accelerator to turn right onto the main road. Engine shut off and there was no response on acceleration. 6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/21/2020

When towing a trailer and you come to a stop, the engine shuts off displaying "auto stop/start shift to p then restart engine". When you restart the engine it immediately dies again. You are left with disabled power steering, disabled power brakes, and have to rev up the engine while keeping one foot on the brakes, and slam it into gear to try to get moving, all while towing a large trailer behind you and typically in an intersection. . This is a very dangerous situation. Ford is aware of the problem, but will not do anything to fix it, even if you bring your truck to their service center reporting the problem. There is an ntsb bulletin describing the problem and required repair, # 18-2249, but Ford does not perform the work unless you provide a copy of the bulletin and insist on the work being done. This ntsb bulletin needs to be a recall! this is a very dangerous driving situation which needs to be corrected.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/27/2020

On September 27, 2020 at about 2:30 pm I was towing a camper approximately 150 miles with the auto start stop disabled by the button on the dashboard. I made a left turn from a stop at an intersection. When I turned the engine shut off and a warning message came on the dashboard that said auto start stop. Shift to p and restart engine. Luckily I was able to avoid an accident and coasted to a stop on the side of the road. I restarted the engine and it stayed running. As I mentioned, I had disabled the auto start stop function at the beginning of the trip if this had happened at a busy intersection or where I couldn't have stopped my wife and I could have been in a serious accident or even been killed. I have read about this on the internet and it is not an uncommon occurrence. This is a serious defect that very likely will cause people to be hit and killed and should be recalled.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

I was decelerating down a hill. I was still doing about 20 mph while braking and I received an error saying auto startstop shift to p, then restart engine and my engine shut off and I lost power steering and brakes and had to coast myself to somewhere as close to the side of the road as possible. Thank god this happened on a local rd and not a highway. I proceeded to shift to p and restart the vehicle 4 times until it allowed me to shift to drive and it actually engage so I could continue driving. This is the second time it has happened to me and the truck is less than a year old.

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Noticed during summer 2020 months the truck when idling at stop would vibrate and tachometer would bounce. Recently during July to September the truck when stopped would idle rough then shut down completely having to put in park and restart the truck! the last time it did it I was sitting at a red light on a city street and it just shut down and I had to restart the truck. This has happened 4 times since July. I took it to two Ford dealers and neither could replicate the problem and told me they could not fix it.

With no notice or warning while driving on freeway pulling horse trailer at 65 mph engine shut down and would not restart. 16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

2015 f150 - without warning - driving at 30 mph on a road and the engine shut down. Hill assist came on along with skid anti-sway motion and a wrench appeared in the indicator light. Truck would not move. I turned off the engine and started it back up and it ran until I reached 45 mph on a 4 lane main road and the engine shut down and I had to coast to the side and restart again. This is a very hazardous situation especially if I had been on an interstate with multiple lanes. I am surprised Ford has not issued a recall on this matter. It happened suddenly and without warning. Please look into this ASAP - I have seen postings where other people are having the same problem.

17 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/26/2019

While driving on the highway the engine shut off. Upon inspection, fuse #27 burned out instead of blowing. This fuse controls the fuel pump, and when it burned up the fuel pump lost power at highway speed. Upon research it is a very common problem with the 2009-2014 year models and Ford issued a TSB but not a recall. I hadn't known about this when purchasing the truck used, and it is a very serious safety issue.

18 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

Engine goes into limp mode on the road, street or highway with no warning. Engine shuts down. Dealer installed new throttle body for the third time!.

19 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/24/2019

My 2015 f150 with 100,700 miles on it completely stalled on me while pulling into traffic. I lost all control and had no throttle response and the truck went into idle mode and would not do anything until I put in park and then turned the truck off and then restarted the truck. Ran my codes and noticed that it showed a p2112 code which was a fault with the throttle body response. This caused my truck to completely lose all function in the middle of a busy intersection with cross traffic. Luckily there were people turning to prevent an 18 wheeler from coming towards me and the speed limit of 55 mph. This is totally unacceptable for this to just shutdown like this and cause serious danger for myself and those driving around me. After reading online it seems that this is a common problem with these throttle body assembly's. This is not ok!!!! I replaced the throttle body myself without paying $800 at the Ford dealership. This has to be addressed for safety reasons.

Starting at 30,000 miles the truck had a rough idle at a stoplight or stop sign in gear, and then after a couple months I would shifting from reverse to drive and it shut down. Now sometimes when I come up to a stop sign or stop light it shuts off I was even at an intersection and it shut off this is a huge safety concern and Ford needs to fix it now. 25 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/29/2018

11/29/18 will be the 6th time my engine shut off when coming to a stop and making a turn. Other 5 incidents were about 3 years ago. Each occasion, slowing down to a stop, engine shuts off while making a turn, and I put it in neutral while pressing brakes, starts up, and I keep going down the road. 122k miles, love the truck but this has me very concerned for my family riding in the truck. I looked up any recalls but did not find anything regarding this. F-150 forums have the exact same incidents and when taking to Ford dealership, they cannot find anything wrong. Please let me know my options of getting Ford to do something.

26 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

With auto stop/start disabled using the dash control, the engine shut down while moving on a city street in traffic during a slow-speed 90 right-hand turn. The on-dash message referenced either the auto shutdown or auto start/stop function stopping the engine and instructed that the vehicle be placed in park to restart. The vehicle did restart after coming to a complete stop and placing the transmission in park. Vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. They reported that no diagnostic trouble codes were present in the system and that the problem could not be replicated after "several" test drives.

27 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

While coming to a stop, the engine shut off and a message displayed that the engine auto start/stop function was engaged, put the vehicle in park, and re-start engine. This was with the auto start/stop feature already disengaged, which I always do. It is very dangerous for your engine to cut off while driving and have to stop, put it in park, and re-start it in moving traffic. I have read multiple reports of this same problem on several forums. Vehicle is a 2018 Ford f150 XLT, 5. 0 engine, had about 4000 miles on it.

28 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/02/2018

While driving on the freeway the vehicle shuts down and the hill descent control light came on and then the engine light. This happened 3 times, I took it to autozone to be tested and the error code - p2112 throttle actuator control system- throttle body needs to be changed. After researching, I came to find out this is happening to thousands of Ford vehicles. Ford had a recall on some vehicles for this, but if your make and model was not on there they will not cover the cost. Ford knows this is a dangerous problem, but will not issue a recall. It is only a matter of time (if not happened already) that there will be a fatality due to this body throttle issue. We as consumers should not have to worry about our vehicle randomly dying on the roads, worry about killing someone else or our own families just to commute. Ford should be ashamed of themselves.

29 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

While traveling 75 mph on my way home from work my truck just shut off. There were only 2 lanes with no shoulder. I could have been killed or killed others. I got lucky. I took the car to our local Ford dealer and they diagnosed it and said I needed to replace the throttle body. Of course I am out of warranty and being force to pay the $400 bill. The service guy proceeds to tell me that Ford knew about this issue years ago but it's not common any more. Why on earth was this not recalled. If Ford knew about a problem with their vehicles that could potentially kill their customers or other travelers then they should have done the right thing and recalled the vehicle!.

30 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

With a hard acceleration the truck blogged down & the engine service light came on. I thought the engine shut off so I pulled it down into 1st gear & it took off again. Still sputters like there is water in the gas or something. Light will not go off. Pretty dangerous in heavy traffic. It actually didn't have any power what so ever. Pretty scary. I read there were several complaints of the same situation. Why has Ford taken care of this as a recall?.

31 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/05/2018

While driving down the road engine shut off. When slowing down to make a turn, engine will shut off. And I rolled across intersection, lost brakes and steering. In motion most of the time. On city streets.

32 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

While driving on the highway at 75 mph the truck shuttered violently and the engine shut down. Immediately it flashed a warning that the "hill climb assist" malfunctioned followed immediately by a wrench symbol notifying that service was needed then another warning about the advance trac system then back to the hill climb assist symbol. All of this happening while the car behind me is almost sideways trying to avoid me. I eventually made it to the right shoulder of the highway. As I read the various warnings it said to refer to the owners manual with regards to the hill climb assist. I turned the ignition off, pulled out the owners manual only to find a description of the hill climb assist feature. After waiting for about 5 minutes I decided to turn on the ignition. The truck started without issue and I continued home cautiously in the far right lane.

33 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2017 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/29/2017

The engine shut off and the truck rolled to a stop. Meanwhile, several warning messages flashed on the instrument panel and smoke began pouring from under the hood. I got out and looked under the vehicle and sparks were profusely flying. I walked away from the vehicle and the engine ignited within 5 seconds. The entire incident occurred within 10-15 seconds. The vehicle was totaled.

34 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2005 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/28/2017

I was driving in my 2005 Ford F-150 5. 4 when the engine shut off on its own. It was not the first time. It has happened while I'm driving in the middle of traffic. Just recently I was driving when I started to loose power, but this time started hear a loud banging coming from the engine. I drove the truck with almost no power to the mechanic. There I was told that it a cam shaft issue. As they uncovered the engine ii was told I would a new engine at the cost of $7500. As I later went online I found many people complaining about the same thing with Ford 5. 4 engines. It seems to me Ford knows about the problem but are not willing to stand by their problem. I have kept up with the maintanance since have been the only owner of the truck. I love the truck but I'm very disappointed with Ford not taking responsibility for having engineered a bad engine. I the single provider of my family and don't have money to be throwing away on new vechical. I also believe the truck stalling out in the middle of a highway was completely dangerous and I was lucky not be hit by anyone else. Please help.

35 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Driving down the highway, doing about 60 to 65 mph, noticed that I was slowing down slightly, went to give it more gas, looked down at the dashboard and realized that the engine wasn't on (no rpms on tachometer). The screen on the dashboard had a service warning for the parking brake with a lightning bolt idiot light on (not sure what it was, didn't get the chance to look in the manual). I don't know if the power steering/brakes went out, since I was moving fast enough to steer fairly easily, and I'm strong enough to press a brake pedal. After I got it pulled over, I put it in park, tried to start it again, wasn't able to. Called roadside assistance, got a tow truck. Notice the screen that has stuff like clock, temp, date, media info was stuck at the time it shutoff. No other electrical systems seemed to work, I. E. Power windows, emergency flashers, ignition. Was also locked in park, couldn't get it into neutral for the tow truck. After it got onto the tow truck, the exterior lights flashed while driving to the dealership to service it, got to dealer and when it came time to get it off the truck, it started right back up again, didn't appear to have any service messages show up. Brand new truck, about 1100 miles on it, no accidents, no off-roading, haven't even changed the oil yet, haven't touched anything under the hood besides the oil dipstick. At the dealership, nothing seemed to be loose under the hood (electrical wise). Attached is a picture similar to what I saw (again, 65 on the highway, not really an ideal time for documentation).
