When my truck is at operating temp. And coming to a stop it sounds like a diesel, it first starts by knocking and ticking then it shuts down. . This is a serious problem for when your pulling anything with the truck always it wants to die, of course unless your good and can throw it into neutral and rev the motor to 2000 rpm's with killing anyone. You start losing steering and brakes when the motors rpm's get very low.

38 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/21/2015

This vehicle has the 'stop/start feature;' which actually shuts off the engine when at a stop and is supposed to 'restart' when the gas pedal is depressed; the 'electrical systems' are supposed to be operative; how power brakes are 'electrically operated' is beyond my comprehension; however, a few days after purchase I was at a stop lite when the engine shut off, and eventually re-started' by itself; the dealer sales staff never informed me of this 'feature,' and also did not tell me there was an 'override switch on the dash; the fact that I did not override it, and that the engine did not restart when the gas pedal was depressed, to me means that this 'feature' is, on this vehicle, inoperative, and therefore inherently dangerous and life threatening; my wife refuses to drive it, and it was towed in to the dealer on 12/21/15, where it remains; I refuse to drive it as well; lastly, the vehicle exhibited no 'stop/start feature' upon a pre-purchase test drive with the salesman in which we made numerous 'stops' and a friend of mine was with me on that test drive, who will attest to this fact; likewise, it did not have any 'problems' until almost three weeks later, during which time I drove the vehicle daily.

Failure Date: 11/22/2015

When driving in humid or when moisture is present such as rain or mist the engine shudder, shakes, misses and even shuts down when quickly accelerating. I have had the engine completely loose power when merging onto freeway in heavy traffic. I took it to the dealer once when it was under warranty. They said the catalytic converter needed replaced. Of course I didn't drive in humid or raining environment conditions again until the warranty ran out. I have experienced the engine shut down at least 4 times since I bought the vehicle new. Almost crashed twice when passing or merging when engine shut down. The date entered below was the last time the problem occurred. First time was March 2013 when vehicle had about 16,000 miles.

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

I was driving down us 281(busy 3 lane highway) in san antonio and the engine shut off causing me to coast to a stop in the middle of traffic. Once I got off of the road, the engine started up like nothing was wrong. After I inspected the fluids and saw everything checked out, I got back on the highway only to have the engine shut off again. I called Ford to see if there was an issue reported or a recall, and there was nothing. I found over 300 complaints on various forums by typing in --2006 f150 failsafe--in the search engine. I think this is a real safety issue that Ford needs to address before someone gets killed on the road. Phil mayfield 210-823-8613.

44 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

Vehicle once when first bought shut down during rain conditions when trying to excel. It was like you ran into a wall. Ford then said it was a wiring harness problem. It continued missing at times over the last two years. The same thing happened again in December while trying to pass a vehicle and it was again during rain conditions and just shut down in the road. We took it into the dealership and they said it was TSB 13 8 1 and made repairs. Vehicle now does not run right and gas mileage has dropped by at lest 2. 5 mpg. Noticeable power loss. Vehicle is the Ford 3. 5 echo boost. This is a big problem for consumers who want a truck and expect power with good mpg but should not be afraid to drive or get a supposed fix that's not what you have purchased. These situations will result into some very bad accidents. I cant imagine pulling something and this happens. Bottom line consumers deserve safe reliable vehicles. We love Fords and I hate I am having to complain but this is a real big problem. Please investigate. Thanks!!!!.

2012 Ford F-150. Consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. The consumer stated as he tried to merge into traffic on the interstate, he floored the accelerator pedal, but the engine shut down completely. He was able to get the truck off the main interstate and into the emergency lane. The engine light came on. He let the truck sit in the off position for approximately 10 minutes and then he re-started the truck. At that point, he was slowly able to accelerate while in the emergency lane, to a speed that allowed him to re-enter the interstate. All attempts to accelerate quickly failed and it would only accelerate gradually at slower then normal speeds. He continued his trip with the engine light on and at his first opportunity he took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer returned the vehicle to the consumer saying they had fixed the problem. The truck performed well for the next year without any incidents, there were no occasions where quick acceleration was required. In October 2013, he made another trip, and the same incident happened. Then engine shut down again in December 2013. The dealer stated they made a different repair and they returned the truck to the consumer. The engine shut down again in April 2014. While driving truck it shut off suddenly without and warning, driver fuel pump control module. This unit is located in an area that is highly corrosive and has no protection against the elements. When this part failed I was driving in a parking lot at a low speed however I was told it can happen any time at all. Once this part goes the vehicle is totally inop. I had to have the truck towed in to the dealer and the part replaced at a cost of $356. 00 labor $125. 00 parts. I was also told I was lucky it took this long and had better plan on doing it again in the near future as it is a common issue with all Ford trucks. Ford redesigned the part but the service manager told me it will happen again as it is only nickel coated and offers no protection from the elements.

54 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2006 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/24/2012

While approaching an interestion, about to make a right at the light, (I was driving about 20mph) on 12/24/12 (with my two children and husband in the truck) the vehicle beeps and it displays "engine safe mode. . . Low oil pressure" then the power steering cuts off and the whole vehicle shut down! I am frantic at this point because I have no clue what is going on! I was in the middle of traffic and had to cut the car off and crank it up again. Luckly I didn't get rear ended or in an accident. That same day I went and got my oil change because it was over due. Well on 1/4/13 the same thing happens as I am turning into the parking lot of mcdonalds. I get the same error message as beore, the steering wheel locks up, and truck cuts off! this so extremely dangerous. I looked this issue up online and see that it appears to be a common issue with the 2006 F-150 and the expedition. My bother-in-law, who also has a similar F-150 to ours, said the same thing has happened to him twice.

55 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2009 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

Vehicle has stalled/shut down on three separate occasions during operation. The first two times the vehicle shut off while stopping at a traffic light. During the latest occurrence the vehicle shut off while navigating a left turn through an intersection. The stall resulted in a power steering and brakes failure. I was able to stop the vehicle without incident because there was no traffic. The latest incident occurred on 05/23/2011. The vehicle has been taken to the local Ford service department but they cannot recreated the problem and therefore have no solution. I have also notified Ford customer service of the problem. There have been six other quality issues with this vehicle. Ford customer service instructed me to continue driving the vehicle and report the incident to the service department when it happens again. Hopefully the next time it happens it will not result in a crash.

56 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2005 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

2005 f150 goes into "fail safe mode" and shuts down while driving. It only occurred once per year starting at 65,000 miles, but now happens every 3-4 weeks at 114,000 miles. Once the engine shuts down, I put the transmission into neutral while coasting and it restarts easily. The engine light illuminates for 3-4 days and then turns off. In researching the issue, it seems to be a rather common problem with this vehicle and is usually caused by a faulty throttle body. Ford states that they are aware of the problem.

57 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

On August 2010 driving my brand new f150 with 5,800 miles with my children about 25 mph around corner truck just shut off. Could hardly steer and brakes where very difficult to use. Had to coast into a safe area almost hitting another vehicle. Stopped, put in park, it started then went directly home. Called Ford they asked if any lights came on, which they did not. Had vehicle towed to dealership. No codes came up on their computer. The kept the truck for 7 days. They hooked up a vdr system in the truck. They said next time this happened I needed to press a button. Get this, next time this happened while trying to steer and brake and not get in an accident press this button. The vdr would record every thing that was going on with the truck when it stalls again. Three weeks later Ford calls asks what going on. It has not happened again. They will call Ford and see what to do. They will probably want the vdr system back. There is nothing else they can do. They said they have not received any other complaints about this occurring on 2010 f150s. I told them there are many on the internet. I told my husband I do not want to drive this truck anymore. Its like playing russian roulette, with our lives. Now winters coming this should be real interesting. I wonder if within a year or so after someone gets seriously hurt or killed that Ford will do something about this.
