1 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2020 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

My vehicle would not exit out of a drive or moving until I stopped the vehicle and disconnected the neg battery cable. The vehicle stayed in a state of high rpms. There were no warning signs and no warnings displayed on the truck display. This is the second "speeding out of control" situation in two days. I fear for the safety of myself, my family, and everyone around me. I don't know what triggers the onset of this condition. I exited from state highway 5 onto exit 104 (hwy 101) and took a left on mud bay road. I was traveling 30-35 mph when I began to slow down to almost a complete stop to make the right turn into the swimming facility. My truck would not slow down. I pushed he brakes very hard to prevent the truck from speeding uncontrollably. I pulled in to a parking spot as best as I could. The truck rpms were maxed. I own an automatic drive. With my foot on the brake, I shifted from d to n. There was a loud sound of gears during the shift. The truck rpms were still maxed out. I turned off the truck and placed the truck in p. I also enabled the parking brake. I started the truck and the truck rpms were still maxed out. I kept the truck running for an additional 30 seconds. My wife and bystanders indicated that there was a burning smell emanating from the truck. I turned off the truck and the truck displayed an "overheating" warning. I allowed the truck to cool down and disconnected the neg battery cable for 15 min. After I reconnected the neg cable, the truck reset to normal running conditions. I have owned the truck for three months and the truck is still under factory warranty. The dealership that I bought it from does not acknowledge that 2020 F-150s have had problems with the transmission/engine. I will take my truck there tomorrow (13may2021) for them to view the error codes.

My vehicle I purchased in 2019 second owner is now not running. I am unsure as to what is going on or why it stalled on me approximately 3 months ago. I filed a claim with my insurance company they closed it without assistance. I had it towed home. It will start up but it has a really loud clanging in the motor area. I don't know what's going on with it. My vehicle has not been neglected and it has been taken care of and I don't understand why it's not running to only be 2 years old. I was driving my vehicle to pick up my daughter from work in town. I noticed a very loud sound and I pulled over at a local circle k and it didn't start back up at that time. 5 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

I have a 2011 Ford F-150. The timing chain has stretched abnormally, causing the mileage and power to be reduced, and causing the engine to make a terrible noise (akin to a diesel starting on a cold day) when it is started, lasting for 5-10 seconds. The 2011 F-150 3. 5l ecoboost timing chain stretching problem is well-known across Ford user forums. There have been so many forum posts and complaints regarding this issue, yet Ford has not done anything to fix the issue. This is a systemic design issue and Ford needs to take ownership and provide a fix for owners that are affected by it.

11 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

2,363 miles on the truck it downshifted on the hwy from 80 mph to 20 mph on its own, with a loud noise. Had to get in the slow lane so not to have a wreck. It is equipped with auto start, where the truck engine automatically stops at a stop sign or light and restarts on its own. The trucked shut itself off while in traffic and had to be put in park and restarted, almost causing a wreck. Took the truck back to the dealer again, when it made a loud noise and felt like we hit something when going 55 mph,the truck jolted we again got in the slow lane. Then when sitting in the driveway the motor started racing on its own not touching the excelerator. Had to turn off truck. We are afraid to take our grandkids in our new 2018 truck we are paying dearly for. The last time we took the truck to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong with it. We are about to retire and wanted this truck to be our last, we have not even had it a year. We have done some checking online, we are not the only ones experiencing these types of problems.

14 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/14/2018

On April 14, 2018 I was driving my 2013 F-150 on the highway approximately 70mph in the rain when the back wheels suddenly locked up and I abruptly began stopping and I lost control, fishtailing to the left and right (almost to a spin), barely missing vehicles around me and the wall to the left. The car behind me somehow veered around and missed me too. As this was happening the truck was making a loud noise as it automatically slowed down. I somehow made it to the side of the road where I parked and shut the truck off and tried to settle down and gain my composure (. . . It was scary, I thought I was going to die from this incident!). I restarted the truck and slowly began drive. It seemed to drive ok so I decided to take the truck to the dealer for service. As I was driving cautiously, well below the speed limit on a 40mph road the engine then shut down and I could see a screen appear with "low oil pressure". I glided to a parking lot and had my truck towed to the dealer where I purchased the truck (suburban Ford of waterford michigan). The dealer said there was a knock in the engine and said it threw a rod. They said the engine failure was the result of the wheels locking up. I researched and found the exact same issue on 2013 F-150's with the transmission automatically downshifting to a low gear causing the rear wheels to lock up. The dealer said they were aware of this and said there is a recall for this on 2011 and 2012 F-150's for this but no recall presently active on the 2013 F-150. I purchased a full warranty for the truck when new but the truck is just out of warranty at 110k miles. The dealer said they could provide a refurbished engine for $10,000. I've been going back and forth with Ford and the dealer at this point. This is a very dangerous life threatening issue. . Read more...

15 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/18/2018

My truck has a constant rattle/detonation/preignition noise during all driving. It is especially bad during hot summer months. It has only gotten worse as months have gone by. It is especially noticeable while climbing very slight uphill grades and at speeds between 35-55mph. It can be heard from inside and outside vehicle. The noise is coming from engine. A vibration and shudder can be felt in vehicle when noise is present. When it is really bad, the sound is very loud and sounds like a metal hammer banging on inside of engine. I was told this would get better with mileage, but has only gotten worse. I have audio and video recordings of noise over then past 10months. I am very worried that this engine is going to fail.

23 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

I purchased my 2004 f150 with 10,000 miles on the engine in December of 2004. I now have 130,000 miles on the engine and im told the engine is junk. I changed the oil religiously every 3000 miles and I even had the spark plugs taken out and the engine completely cleaned internally. I love this truck and am finding it hard to beleive that at 130,000 miles its junk. The cams are not getting oil and its causing the engine to rattle and make loud noises, when I drive the truck on the highway at 65 or 70 miles an hour it runs great but as soon as I slow down on the ramp, the noise and rattle start. The engine check light came on. The mechanic says I need a new engine. The warning was cam retarded. The rest of the truck is in great condition. The interior looks almost new. I kept my truck clean inside and outside. I even kept my floors scrubed and clean. I just had to sell my house because of my health and now my only vehicle went to hell. Is anyone paying attention to these complaints and trying to fix them. I'm told this engine is noted for this problem. Really!!! 130,000 miles on a pickup truck is nothing. Why are these engines that were put in these trucks breaking down and nothing is being done about it? after this experience with buying a new vehicle, I know I'll never purchase a new vehicle again. Especially not a Ford. I believe that the Ford company is aware of this problem, but isn't concerned with the consumers problem, because nothing is being done to help the consumer fix the problem. I the consumer am shocked that I have to junk my vehicle with the low mileage. I'm told $8000. 00 for a new engine. Wow!!! not possible for me to even consider. Please please look into this problem and help the consumer with a resolution. I don't want to junk my truck!.

26 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/08/2016

In 2016 I went to get recall repaired from franklin TN dealership I purchased the truck from, they refused, in 2019, they claim that the software was not available from Ford, online in emails to another dealer, I have not been told when to bring truck in to get all recalls repaired. Both dealerships are in TN. When in first gear, the truck will jerk back down and won't allow me to go to 2nd gear without pressing hard on gas, loud fan noise from the hood, breaks go to the floor and I have to pump to feel truck slowing down, air and heat continue to not work, air won't get cool and heat won't get hot, both dealerships have refused to repair or blamed Ford for not giving them what they needed to fix the recalls. I am documenting so my family will be able to give this to attorney. The down shift happens when the truck is in drive moving on any and every street, parking lot, stop light/sign. The loud fan noise from the engine only happens when the truck is started, the brakes have been going to the floor for 8 years at different times of the day/night when driving.

35 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2007 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Driving on a posted 40 mph county road approaching a stop sign. The vehicle made a loud noise from the engine compartment and lost 80% power. Took it to a local mechanic and they explained that the spark plug(s) were bad and the tune up would be $500-$800 depending on "if" one or all of them broke during removal. One had already blown out during aforementioned incident. I understand that this was a problem for a lot of Ford vehicles during the years 2004 thru 2008. I believe this should have been a recall repair. Thank you.
