4 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

erractic shifting three times I was driving at 50 to 60 miles per hour and suddenly the erratic shifting (truck down shift with any warning) and the rear tires locked up immediately. (when this happens the speedometer and the rpm is erractic too) it is too dangerous if another car would have come near me would have crashed. These times I had time to put the emergency lights. Turn off the truck and turn it on again, (somethimes you have to do it several times to make the truck work again) and another problem is somethimes the gear not engage, the engine revs but it runs almost nothing) don't feel safe driving this truck.

5 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2015 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/13/2017

During the "very random" process of shifting the automatic transmission, from any gear to any gear, the gear does not engage and appears to be in neutral then the engine revs to the highest rpm until I press the brake and put into gear a second time. This happens both while the truck is in motion and when at a stop shifting from reverse to drive. This has happened at least 20 times since I have owned the truck. When this occurs it is unpredictable. It happens both when I am hauling a trailer and when I am not. I haul a small two horse trailer weekly and this happened to me while driving down a steep hill and I downshifted. The truck did not feel like it was under my control. I panic ever time this has happened and the dealership does not seem to have a fix for the problem.

6 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/17/2017

Been having this issue intermittently for the past 2 months since bought the truck. Car would lose power, choke and transmission disengage and shifts gears randomly. It seems to be locked in neutral. Parked on the side, put it in p and then d and it will work again. May 2017 - brought the truck for inspection at closest Ford dealer. They couldn't reproduce the issue and thought resetting the computer would solve it. July 2017 - brought back the truck to another Ford dealer. They couldn't reproduce the issue but found out that the transmission oil was low therefore filled it up. July 2017 - still having the issue, leaving the truck at the Ford dealer for one week. . . They couldn't reproduce the problem. . . Took the truck back August 2017 - drove one month without major chocking. Was driving on the highway at 100km/h and the vehicle went crazy downshifting and locked the rear wheels, cars behind almost hit me. . . Almost lost control but was able to pull at the next exit and call the towing. It could've been worst. . . Truck is now at my local dealer for diagnostic. There's no way I'm taking back the car before they fix it August 15, 2017 - local Ford has been able to reproduce the issue. Transmission was shifting randomly into different gears. The culprit was the lead frame part #al3z7g276b. Upon investigation there was a recall on that for 2010-2012 Fords. . Well well. . . I was still all covered under warranty. Hopefully, no issue will ever come back!.

9 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2011 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/17/2016

When shifting the lever to reverse, the transmission does not engage reverse immediately and has a long delay before shifting to reverse. The "r" indicator does not illuminate and the backup lights do not come on even when the transmission engages in reverse. The issue seems to be similar to NHTSA recall #12v190000, but when I contact Ford I am told that there is no recall for my vehicle.

10 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

While accelerating to merge into traffic on the interstate the truck shuttered violently and lost all power to the drive train. Motor was still running but transmission would not engage for approximately 10-15 seconds. Tapped accelerator 2 times and motor would rev up but transmission did not engage again until third attempt. I have my truck serviced regularly, this is not a low transmission fluid issue and seems to be the same issue reported by other f150 owners across the country. This is a safety issue, I was almost hit in the rear after this happened. The service light came on when this issue occurred; however, after going to the dealer and shutting the engine off the service light did not reappear when started again.

11 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Vehicles has several times after being at a stop, vehicle will not engage transmission. Vehicle will accelerate engine rpm's, but is like it is neutral and speedometer goes to 0. Vehicle will roll, but stops in middle of road, intersection or shoulder if enough speed before it stops. Brought vehicle in 2 times and kinsel Ford dealership can't get it duplicate problem. Called Ford motor and they told me they can't help me until a certified technician sees it. Was told I need to drive vehicle until it does this again and call roadside assistance and don't restart so codes won't clear. I feel this was unsafe because vehicle can stall in a intersection and cause a cause a wreck. Ford told me they couldn't help me until they could actually see this prove. I have to have a vehicle and drive it until it does it so I can get this fixed.

12 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

I was traveling west on i10 in arizona when my truck decided to down shift/limp mode at 75 mph. The result was a nice long slide until I was able to shift the transmission into neutral. Of course the cruise control still thought it was going to speed the truck up and continued accelerating until I turned it off. I was able to get to the emergency lane and shut the vehicle off. I called the dealership to report it and they asked me to start it again. It started fine and did not show any errors on the display. I was able to drive it home though at a reduced speed and not using the cruise control. I find that Ford would supply a vehicle with a limp mode that would shift the vehicle into 2nd gear limp mode at any speed and not shut off the cruise at the same time. Seems to me the vehicle should disengage the cruise and slow the vehicle when at speed and not the unexpected down shift that seems to result from any transmission issues. If I had been towing my car trailer or travel trailer this could have been catastrophic. Be nice to find out what Ford says when I finally get my truck back.

16 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/05/2011

Started my truck as usual to go to work, put it in reverse and it was like I put it in neutral, no engagement at all. Glad I wasn't in a situation when this happened that could have put myself or someone else in danger. Ford knows they have a problem, it is wide spread. Sure my truck has 124000 miles on it but the transmission malfunction light has been going on and off for the last 70000 miles and the dealer said they could not find any trouble codes or malfunctions during this period. I can rev my motor to about 2000 rpm and it will finally gently start to roll into reverse but my failsafe mode engages, check engine light comes on and the motor stumbles badly until I put the vehicle in drive gear and go about 2 miles at which time the failsafe mode goes off and it smoothes out. For the most part my vehicle has been dealer maintained.

17 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

A) 03. 15. 2010. Ford f150 platinum extended cab. Steering is extremely stiff/spongy/hard to turn off-center. Must constantly fight side winds and road crowns. As if only 10% power assisted. Dangerous as required constant attention to steering. Others who have driven it comment the same and will not drive truck again. Dealer claims it's "normal" for all Ford f150's with no correction. Dangerous as when transferring to other vehicles with full power assist, one over-steers and quickness and is difficult to re-acquaint. B) drive line/transmission/etc. Does not engage on inclines, slips & chatters into "full" engagement, shudders 1-3 times at stopping & starting. Ford dealer cannot locate problem. . . No repair attempted. Independent trans. Repair firm says it's a drive line bind releasing. . . Possibly a drive line miss-alignment at transmission out-put shaft spline, and or loose engine/transmission mounts. Danger that transmission may disengage without warning at any time.

18 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2003 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/21/2009

Similar to other complaint, I discovered that my 4 wheel drive was not engaging when I turn it on using the switch on the dash. My independent excellent mechanic (I would never use the Ford dealer here) found that a wire on the transmission case had been simply disconnected. He reconnected it - no charge. Works fine. P. S. I test the operation every couple of weeks now to make sure it is working just in case I need it.

21 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/24/2005

Vehicle is 2001 f150 supercrew 4x4 purchased new in 2001. Vehicle has 81,500 miles and has never been used for towing or hauling heavy loads. Automatic transmission will not engage right away in forward gears. There is a delay of several seconds before engagement. Works alright in reverse and once vehicle starts moving. Seems to be similar to problem noted in TSB 01-11-7. Brought to stateline Ford in phillipsburg, NJ to investigate. Was told that there was internal problem with transmission and that replacement is recommended. Asked if this was normal for this transmission to fail at 81,000 miles and I was told it was not. Called Ford customer relations center to explain problem and see if Ford would participate in part of cost for replacement. Was told they would not. Called dealer to see if this could be discussed with field rep and was told they couldn't.

23 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 09/21/2003

Transmission would not shift from a dead start. I would attempt to cross an intersection and the transmission would not engage. When it did it was with a violent jerk of the vehicle. The force of the jerk was similar to being in a rollercoaster. Took vehicle to local Ford dealership and the only explanation I was given was that the transmission was running hot and Ford now required an in-line cooler filter be installed on the transmission at my cost since the inline cooler filter was not original.
