Ford F-150 owners have reported 31 problems related to transmission sensor (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford F-150 based on all problems reported for the F-150.
After cranking the vehicle, I put in in reverse. The check engine light came on and it did not want to back up. Fearing that I would damage the vehicle I had it towed to the dealer. It was pulling a trouble code p0705 for the transmission range sensor. There is a recall on this (12c23) for Ford f150's for certain 2011 through 2013 models. I was told that my vehicle was not included in this recall because it was made 4 months before the recall years. My Ford was made in 4/11. The recall started for 8/11 year vehicles. My truck is the same year, make, model, and has the same engine and transmission as the recalled vehicles and it should also be covered in the recall. This does not make any sense at all to exclude my vehicle. I have the receipt from the dealer that cost me $907. 36. The tow bill was $140. 00. I should be reimbursed from Ford for all this.

"transmission shift lever sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect" and 108 lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. These vehicles may have a transmission range sensor (trs) that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear.
My transmission down shaft to low gear while driving. Same problem as in previous years models . Transmission output speed sensor bad which built into molded lead frame assembly. Had to replace molded lead assembly and seals. Dealer charge me 950. 78 for repairs, should be on recall list same transmission problem as 2011-2013,. Lucky I wasn't hit from behind by another vehicle.

Takata recall: my 2010 Ford raptor with the 6. 2l motor has been having a wrench light come on and I have had two quotes stating the neutral position sensor or transmission range sensor is bad. I've noticed that many recalls have been made on the Ford F-150 models starting in 2011-2014. With my vehicle being produced mid year of 2010. I feel my vehicle is part of that recall. But doesn't show in any systems. My vehicle will stay stuck in a certain gear or not start at all. I can be driving down the high way and the vehicle will shift down to first gear when the vehicle is still in drive while going 60mph. It makes the vehicle reach redline on rpms and hard to stop the vehicle.

My 2011 F-150 would not go into reverse and it would not show up in the in the indicator. It required the replacement of the molded lead frame in the transmission to correct the transmission range sensor issue. There was a recall issued by Ford (12c23) that covered the same issue for 2011 - 2013 model year F-150 with 6r80 transmission. My F-150 was not in the manufacture date range, but it has all the issues that were in the 12c23 recall. This was brought to Fords attention, but they indicated that it is not part of this recall, even though it is the same exact issue. I have attached the recall notice for reference. This recall should be extended to cover all 2011 F-150 that have this exact same issue as indicated in the recall. It also should be noted that they did issue a recall 19n01 for the mold lead frame for this F-150, but refuse to cover the repair due to the fact that the specific codes for this recall were not present.
On the evening of 2/14/19 while returning home from the car wash, my 2012 Ford F-150 suddenly downshifted into 1st gear from 6th gear while the vehicle was in motion. There was no loss of control as the road was dry and my speed was 40 mph. The next morning I called the service department at jack demmer Ford in wayne mi to speak with my service rep. He did not pick up and did not return my call despite my leaving a detailed message and calling again later in the day. On the morning of 2/19/19 while on the freeway at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle went into what I assume is "limp mode". It dropped from 6th to 5th gear and a wrench logo appeared in the message screen. There was no description of the problem, just a logo. When I got off the freeway, I realized that I no longer had 1st, 2nd, or 6th gear. I arrived at work and called the dealer immediately. They gave me a runaround about how an official fix was not available yet and asked me if I had tried turning the car off and back on again. After insisting repeatedly that something be done, I was told I could bring the truck in the have the power train module "reprogrammed". This was done at no cost but I was told this was all they could do for me at this time. The next day in the evening, the truck downshifted to second gear while I was on the freeway doing 55 miles an hour. The road was wet and starting to freeze. I nearly lost control of the vehicle but was able to regain control. The truck returned to normal after this. As of 2/20/19, no further contact has been made with Ford regarding the issue. I will be calling tomorrow to customer care about this issue and demanding a rental car until the vehicle is safe to drive. It is my understanding that this is related to recall 19s07. The transmission output speed sensor is reported to be losing communication with the powertrain control module, causing a downshift.

Automatic transmission problem. Twice while traveling on the highway in 6th gear at greater than 65 mph the vehicle shifted from 6th to 4th gear for no apparent reason which caused the tires to squeal and the entire vehicle jerk and slow significantly. No warning or error or warning lights were illuminated. Five other times while traveling at about 15 mph the automatic transmission controls attempted to shift from 2nd gear to 5th gear which significantly bogged the vehicle down and almost stalled. Ford error code p0722, obd-ii trouble code associated with the transmission output speed sensor came in. The vehicle was serviced and it was determined the molded lead frame connector was defective and needed replaced.

P0705 transmission range sensor input failure. Ford says there are zero recalls on this VIN ever.
~tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact received a recall letter from Ford motors. The contact stated that the transmission sensor was replaced at glockner southpoint Ford (155 CO rd 406, south point, OH 45680, (740) 894-3673) in February of 2018 per the recall. While driving 50 mph, the transmission downshifted and the vehicle slowed down without depressing the brake pedal. A wrench symbol and the check engine indicator illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the transmission sensor was replaced again. The failure mileage was 75,000.
Vehicle will abruptly downshift to 1st gear at highway speeds of 65 mph causing rear tires to lock up and skid. Dtc codes p0720 and p0722 indicate faulty transmission sensor. Extremely unsafe!.
I am having a safety issue with my vehicle. When I place the shifter into reverse or drive the vehicle does not go. There is a delay until it engages into reverse or drive, the check engine light comes on as well. When you drive there is a hard shift. I did some research and a lot of people are complaining about this. I did check the check engine light codes and the issue is the " transmission range sensor". I am afraid that while I am driving it will disengage from drive and put my life in danger.
When trying to shift into reverse the dash light will not illuminate, will not shift into reverse, and maintenance wrench light comes on. I am able to shift into neutral, drive, and any other gear with dash illumination and operate the vehicle. Reverse will not shift and after multiple tries it finally takes and "jolts" backwards without warning and allows me to backup. However dash light never changes and am unsure when it will shift. I am told by the dealership that it is a malfunctioning "transmission range sensor". My vehicle matches the make, model, and year of an active recall: #12v190000 however I am informed by the local Ford dealership that my VIN number does not match the recall list in oasis? and therefore is not covered by Ford. I have had no issues with my vehicle up until this point and cannot believe that Ford is refusing to cover this obvious safety hazard.
Transmission range sensor is malfunctioning. Truck shifts gears erratically, reverse lights will not operate creating a safety hazard. The shifting is also a safety hazard due to the inability to maintain control of my speed on the interstate. At times the reverse lights will come on while driving in traffic even if the vehicle is moving forward. Ford has issued a recall for the same problems for the same vehicle built in the same plant, however the manufacture date for the recall begins in August of 2011, my truck was built in June of 2011. Therefore my truck is not covered. I have already been placed at risk for an accident for this issue. I feel this is a defect already acknowledged by Ford, and can't understand why they wouldn't choose to fix every vehicle affected by this instead of just a few.
VIN: 1ftfw1et7cfa07224 recall date: Apr 25, 2016 recall title: powertrain control module reprogramming NHTSA recall number: awaiting# Ford recall number: 16s19 recall description: some vehicles may experience an intermittent loss of the transmission output speed sensor (oss) signal to the powertrain control module, potentially resulting in a temporary, unintended downshift into first gear. In some cases, the oss signal could recover while driving and the vehicle will resume normal function; in other cases the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation. Ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition on the affected vehicles. Risk to safety: depending on vehicle speed at the time of the downshift, an unintended downshift into first gear may occur causing the rear tires to slide or lock up until the vehicle slows. This may result in a loss of vehicle control without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy program: owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the powertrain control module reprogrammed with updated software. There will be no charge for this service. Ford is excluding reimbursement for costs because the original warranty program would provide for a free repair for this concern. Ford will forward a copy of the notification letters to dealers to the agency when available. Status: 12 - recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available. . Read more...
Experience an intermittent loss of the transmission output speed sensor (oss) signal to the powertrain control module, potentially resulting in a temporary, unintended downshift into first gear. An unintended downshift into first gear may occur causing the rear tires to slide or lock up. This has been going on since April 2011. Still no remedy. Too dangerous to drive.

Driving on highway at 70mph, I saw my speedometer momentarily drop to 40mph. It did it again about 15 seconds later, and downshifted to about 4th gear momentarily. About a minute later, still at 70mph the speedometer dropped, and the transmission downshifted to 1st gear! my rear wheels locked up, and I lost control, and fishtailed for a few seconds. Luckily I had taken a half day vacation and was not in rush hour traffic. Still other cars had to swerve to keep from being hit. The dearlership was able to reproduce the problem, and replaced a moulded plastic module made by continental that I think contained the transmission speed sensor. So it appears that when the transmission speed sensor signal is lost, the failure mode is to downshift to 1st gear no matter the speed of the vehicle.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford f150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to shift into reverse the vehicle would hesitate. The contact observed that the reverse lights were not working. The check engine and tool warning lights were also illuminated. The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While operating the vehicle, the transmission downshifted hard and the vehicle jerked without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician made adjustments to the transmission sensor, but the failure recurred. In addition, while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook and vibrated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine cylinder coil failed and the cylinder battery pack needed to be replaced. Eventually five of the six cylinder battery packs failed and were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 20,000.
In cold weather, a 2-3 slip detect occurs on moderate hills at low acceleration. The first two times the truck was inspected by dealer, I was told the problem was the external transmission sensors, and the slip detect code was removed from the vehicle computer. Problem is re-occuring as the weather warms up, but slip detect code not being stored in computer. I've referenced TSB 99-9-6 (NHTSA item sb606428) to dealer, but have been told that the TSB is irrelavent and the transmission pan will have to be dropped to inspect the internal sensors at a cost of $1,200. Please (if possible) send me the full text of TSB 99-9-6 and/or NHTSA item sb606428 so that I may use it as back-up upon my next visit to the dealer. I will also let them know that I've filed an issue report here at the odi. Regards, eric slan.
