I have bf goodrich rugged trail t/a 275 70 r18 tires on my 2006 Ford f250 which were purchased 25 months ago and have 22000 miles on them. While towing my travel trailer I experienced a slight vibration while driving. I immediately pulled over and checked the vehicle and camper for NY visible signs of a problem. Everything a appeared to be in good working order so I continued on driving slower. After about 10 miles the tire completely blew up damaging my vehicle and sending the tread of the tire across the other lanes traffic which almost caused a major vehicular accident. I thought it was bad luck. I changed the tire and continued down the road. After approximately another 200 miles I started getting the same vibration from the rear drivers side tire. Fearing another blow out and having no spare tire I pulled over and spent the night in a campground. The next morning I went out to get tires and upon the tire personal inspecting the tire they said that it had a air bubble under the tread and that it too would have more than likely blown out on me. I didn't think that this was coincidence anymore. So upon getting home I called bf goodrich and made a complaint. Then I researched the tires and saw that a bunch of them were recalled. Just that mine was not within the the manufacture's date code with in a few weeks. I feel that if I hadn't had that camper behind me that I probably could have lost control of my truck with possible catastrophic consequences.

We own a 2008 Ford F-250 super duty truck with bf goodrich rugged terrain t/a tires. On or about 7/5/15, the passenger side rear tire developed tread failure as a portion of the tire tread began peeling off while travelling on I-75. A spare tire was put on and the tire was replaced and a warranty claim was submitted as it was still under tread warranty. On or about 8/21/15, the drivers side rear tire experienced complete tire failure while traveling on I-95, which caused nearly $3000. 00 in damage to the truck. There is currently a recall on the bf goodrich rugged terrain t/a tires but not for the 20 inch tires which are the ones described here. We feel that the 20 inch tires need to be investigated for possible recall as well. These tires only had 37,667 miles on them and were purchased new from Ford on 7/23/12. This tire failure nearly caused a serious accident which could of lead to death or serious injury. I have documentation showing the tires have been regularly maintained/inflated and rotated.

I was driving approximately 45 miles per hour on the highway. I had the rear driver side tire blow out on the highway. This occurred without any warning of imminent failure. The tires had approx 40,000 miles on them and are the original tires supplied with the vehicle. It is a 2004 Ford F-250 lariat diesel extended cab. The vehicle has approx. 40,000 miles on the odometer. I purchased it used in December of 2008 and was not informed of any recalls. I believe these are defective tires. Splits are evident in at least one more tire. Bf goodrich tires. My VIN is [xxx] . I have changed all four tires and retain possession of all the remnants collected from the roadway. I also retain possession of the original spare tire supplied with the vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Purchased new 2008 F-250 on 3/21/09. Upon detailed insp of vehicle's undecarriage, I noticed the spare tire was 2" smaller than the road tires. 18" vice 20". I was told by the dealer that this is standard practice. This truck was purchased with the intent of towing a fifth wheel camper. If I am 30-100 miles from civilization and have a flat, the tire size difference with the load on the truck can't be that safe. Is this a legal practice?.

They refused to send anyone out to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 57,300. Updated 11/17/08

I was driving on a 2-lane state highway at approximately 65mph. My pickup is a 2001 Ford superduty diesel supercab 4x4. The weather was overcast, temperature about 75 degrees. I was pulling an 18' flatbed "car hauler" type trailer, total weight (trailer & load) approximately 1,000lbs. I had driven 60 miles with no indication of vibration or problems. I stopped for an hour then resumed driving. I noticed some vibration, so stopped and checked both pickup and trailer tires. Inflation was good and there were no indications of problems with any tires. I continued my trip. Within the next 5 miles the tread separated from the left front (drivers side) tire on my pickup. The pickup immediately lurched to the left across the centerline. I regained control and was able to pull off the shoulder without further incident. The tread separation damaged the fender, running board, inner fender, insulation liner, and front bumper. There were no persons injured. I was able to "tie-wrap" the inner fender panel back in place and install the spare tire to continue the trip.
: the contact stated while traveling 50 mph, the rear passenger tire blew causing the vehicle to jolt backwards. This caused damage to the wheel well. The spare tire was installed and then the tire was taken to the dealership. There was body damage repaired. Later, while traveling 55 mph the vehicle began to shimmy up and down then left to right. The driver side front tire blew out, the vehicle was pulled over and wheel well damage occurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealership; the vehicle has been at the dealership since the incident in September. The manufacturer of the tire was alerted. The tires were sent to the manufacturer and it was determined the blowouts were a result of impact damage. Updated 07/17/07.

I had just driven about 10 miles on I-25 from work to my house. I pulled into my driveway, got out of the vehicle and opened the gate, then I got back in the vehicle and drove on to where I park. After parking, I glanced back at the driveway, where I had stopped to open the gate, and there was a tire laying on the ground. It was actually my spare tire, that had been mounted up under the bed of my truck. Also on the ground was the bracket that holds the tire onto a cable and the nut-like device that holds the bracket onto the cable. The nut-like device apparently sheared off from the cable and the tire fell off. Looking under the bed of the truck, you can see the fraayed cable hanging down. I am so extremely relieved that this happened in my driveway instead of on the highway. Had the tire fallen off on the interstate, there is no telling what would have happened. I notified Ford motor company, via there web site. They acknowledged and suggested I take the truck to a local dealer to get the cable fixed.

While driving at 35 mph spare tire carrier cable located underneath the vehicle broke. As a result, the spare tire fell off in a residential area. First tire failure the truck was only a few months old and had about 4000 miles. I was doing about 60 mph on i75 when the tire blew. I called the Ford service number and a service vehicle came and put my spare tire on. The next day I took the tire to the firestone dealer at dadeland in miami. There they said that there was nothing they could do since I had driven on it. My complaint was that no other record was made of the early tire failure. (dot number: 20891ur tiresize: lt235/85r1).
