1 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2024 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 03/19/2025

The contact owns a 2024 Ford F-350. The contact stated that upon moving the gear shifter into drive, the vehicle failed to immediately shift into drive with a delayed response to the driver input. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and again the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle test-driven for 5 miles but never experienced the failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred two additional times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/26/2005

2001 F-350 super duty crew cab, the screws that hold the transmission shifter cable plate to the steering column shift tube, backed out of their holes. As the company mechanic I experienced the same problem previously on a different truck. I repaired the problem the same way, lowering the steering column, installing longer bolts with thread lock compound on the threads, added a nyloc nut on the end of the bolt.

3 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/10/2004

2001 F-350 super crew, the screws that connect the column shifter tube to the plate that the shifter cable connects to, backed out of their holes. This action caused an improper reading, and selection of transmission gear. The vehicle was put into park, and did not make it past reverse. The truck was equipped with an aftermarket back up alarm, which alerted the driver, and avoided a dangerous situation. The vehicle was brought to me (the company mechanic) for repair. I dropped the steering column, threaded longer bolts in the factory holes with loctite, tightened bolts then added a nyloc nut on the back side.

Failure Date: 12/31/2001

Transfer case shifting fork wore out. Truck had only been in four wheel drive about a dozen times all in snow conditions on major hiways. No offroading at all. Had to replace the shifting fork, a planetary gear an a imput shaft. This was the only way Ford would sell the repacement parts. Ford has made a design change on the shifting fork.

5 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 03/15/2001

Vehicle would intermittently jump out of four wheel drive into two wheel drive. Dealer was notified and the problem has been reoccurring. . Consumer stated the dash says the vehicle is in 4 wheel drive, however when consumer tries to move the vehicle the rear tires will spin.

Four wheel drive will engage at any speed while making a turn or stopping. Dealership has examined vehicle three times, and cannot effectively remedy the problem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

While driving on highway transfer case broke and vehicle was no longer able to run. There was no prior waring. Consumer has contacted dealer, and dealer said they couldn't do anything because vehicle is no longer under warranty.

I have had the vehicle a short time and the vehicle has developed a binding in the rear when turning and the gas mileage started to decrease the trassfer case was noisy in 4 wheel drive I took it to the dealer and they said that there was a problem with the rearend and they ordered parts it took 8 days to get my truck back when I picked it up it still had all the same problems and at that time I took a mechanis for a ride he noticed the same things that I did at that time I was asked to bring the truck back on Monday at which I did then the service manager told me the problems where not there I also had another problem with the rear diff seal leaking they replaced the seal and called me to come and pick it up at whictck time I asked about the noise that was in the drive line he told me that he drove the truck several miles and he could not duplicate the problem and the truck was ready for pick-up I stated that I would not pick up the truck untill I talked to a rep and he told me that I could not talk to one at that I ended the phone call I called his boss and explained the problem he stated he would look into it the first service manager called me back at whitch time he told me that he drove one with a gas that had 700 miles on it and it did not have the same problem and that the transfer case was deff I talked to him today and at this time they can not find exactually where the nois is but it is in the drive line.

9 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 1997 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/21/1999

Traveling at 50 mph the transfer case locked up and the truck skidded off the road. Damage to front end,engine,transmission. Transfer case replaced. Fought to get transmission replaced as well. Still fighting to get front end and engine damage repaired. Have contacted attorney general for the state of maine. Has contacted repairing dealership as well as selling dealership. Should have some results soon. Would advise all consumers with similar problems of dealerships not standing by thier repairs to contact attorney general in thier state for assistance.

10 Automatic Transmission Column Shift problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

While driving on the highway without manual operation vehicle will go into 4-wheel drive, cause unknown. Please give any further details.

The vehicle will not shift in any gears higher than second. Took vehicle to dealer, and the dealer replaced the transmission.
