Failure Date: 11/20/2010

My 2005 Ford 350 4x4 cracked the trans case because or the low/reverse snap ring came loose & broke the trans case at 55000 mi. Talked to Ford about this & they said there is nothing they could do &there has not been a problem with this, but I found out that they have had a problem & had a recall on this (recall #05b27). Ford dealer said that this would cost me $4622. 00. They fixed this problem I think in the 2006 models therefore they knew they had a problem. My warranty ran out on this truck about 1 month ago.

6 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

I have a 2008 350 super duty Ford truck. I have about 35,000 miles on the truck and in those miles I have had about a dozen incidents where the trucks automatic transmission did not start from a dead stop in 1st. Gear. In stead it must have started in 3rd. Or 4th gear resulting in what would be a very underpowered start. I would press the accelerator to the floor which would result in the transmission down shifting and the wheels spinning even when pulling a 5th wheel trailer. Twice, while empty, I nearly had an accident when I needed a rapid response to enter traffic. The last time this happened was 8/25/2010. When I have taken this complaint to a Ford dealership, they say they can not find any codes, however the last time the dealer did a computer update on the truck and that was about 10 months ago and I thought the problem was solved. I met another person with the same power train as mine who had the same problem, finally his transmission went out and had to be replaced. I would like to have you investigate this issue, it may save a life.

The performance was monitored by the dvr system; however, the system could not detect any codes. The manufacturer was aware of the failure; however, they did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 31,000. The approximate failure mileage was 1,500.

8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 07/07/2009

About a mile after I turned off of hwy 101 onto hwy 166 going east while hauling my 32' toyhauler with my 2005 Ford f350 superduty 4x4 drw crew cab truck when smoke started billowing out the rear of my truck, a friend that was following me thought my truck was on fire as fluid sprinkled on his windshield. I was not able to safely pull over for a couple of miles. When I stopped I found that my transmission fluid had spewed out onto the tail pipe of the truck that caused the smoke and all over the highway. I had the truck and trailer towed to santa maria Ford and had to wait a day for them to open. When they inspected the transmission, the mechanic told me that the problem was a faulty retainer (snap) ring that came off (unseated) the low/reverse clutch that caused the crack in the transmission case. The mechanic told me there was a Ford recall on this problem a few years earlier. He did not want me to mention that he told me anything to anyone at the Ford dealership, because he was afraid of losing his job. I left the truck at the dealer because they said it needed a rebuilt transmission. When I returned home I researched the problem and found Ford recall 05b27 that was exactly the problem that had occurred. The recall stated that you had to have a snowplow package installed on the truck to receive the recall. This truck did not have the snowplow package. But, it did have the exact transmission with the faulty snap ring that the trucks with the snowplow package had. It should not matter if my truck had a snowplow package or not. Ford knew that my truck had the faulty part installed in the transmission and never sent me a recall. I could have had an accident or may have caused one, due to this (Ford motor company known) faulty part cracking the transmission case and spewing transmission fluid all over the road. Hwy 166 is a very winding road in areas and who knows if an accident may have happened due to the excess slippery fluid all over the road. My cost $4441. 00.

9 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/11/2008

08/2007 at 27,127 miles Ford f350 superduty was taken in to dealer for repair due to the following: hesitation upon acceleration and transmission catching and loud bang, like it is jerking into gear. Dealer repaired under warranty. 08/2008 at 36,800 miles (just out of warranty) taken in again for same problem and dealer want to charge us to replace transmission. The vehicle has never been used to pull trailers or heavy equipment so there is no reason for the transmission to be failing with so little mileage.

10 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 07/24/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-350 superduty. When the vehicle was placed into reverse, it would not back up. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that the reverse clutch retainer ring, the reverse piston retainer ring, the clutch housing, and the transmission case needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 63,726.

11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/11/2007

On June 11, 2007 at approximately 11:00am I was unloading a piece of construction equipment off the back of my trailer. The trailer was connected to my 2007 Ford f350 super duty dual rear wheel truck. The truck was in park the emergency brake was set and the keys were out of the ignition. As I descended off the trailer the tires of the truck began to roll while I was inside the cab of the excavator and on top of the trailer. The vehicle was parked on a flat surface. It rolled for approximately 195 feet as I was unable to stop it. The trailer began to jackknife and eventually the machine fell off the trailer with me still in the cab. The truck only stopped after it struck a small car that was parked at the bottom of a hill. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership where Ford sent an engineer to examine the transmission and front end of the vehicle. His conclusion was that he did not see anything wrong with the transmission but that the truck must not have been in park all the way. I contested these findings and have asked Ford to continue to look into this matter. If in fact his findings about the truck not being in the park position are accurate how was I able to remove the key from the ignition. As I previously stated, at the time the truck began to move it was in park the emergency brake was set and the keys were in my pocket. It is my contention something malfunctioned in the transmission or there is a defect with the vehicle that will allow the keys to be removed from the ignition when the truck is not in a fully engaged park position. After the accident occurred I examined the road surface did not see any skid marks or notice any flattening out of the tires. If the vehicle was in park and the brake was truly engaged properly one would believe there should have been some skid marks left on the road surface as I traveled a total distance of 195 feet before hitting the parked car.

Failure Date: 08/15/2005

The contact stated while making a right hand turn the vehicle hesitated. The transmission will catch, and there is a loud bang , and then the vehicle will lunge forward. When the vehicle is in reverse the transmission hesitates as well. It seems as though there may be something broken in the transmission or in the rear suspension. The dealership where the vehicle was purchased referred the contact to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected. The vehicle was not inspected to determine the exact cause of the problem. The consumer had difficulty placing the vehicle into park. Updated 11/16/105.

25 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/02/2004

Vehicle had 38,000 miles on it when transmission went out on 2001 crewcab psd. Ford said "too bad, warranty expired now". Ended up spending $5000 on a new transmission, not from Ford, but from a diesel expert who said this is common to this vehicle, and specifically this year - he also has the same vehicle and had the exact same problem. We have owned Ford vehicles for over 25 years, but never again will we buy a Ford because we now feel they do not stand behind their vehicles. Especially after finding out that this appears to be a pretty common problem, Ford does know about it, yet refuses to do anything about it.
