Auto. Transmition failure on 2001 f350 superduty Fords, this is the 4th one that I know of. The transmition fails to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. My truck has 58,000 miles, and I donot pull any heavy loads. Ford said the repairs would be at my cost. If they are having so much trouble w/ them why isn't there a recall?.
Vehicle would roll in parking gear. Dealer said that bearings in transmission were worn completely out letting gears bypass each other. Damage was also done to the transmission internal casing and the gears pictures are available. Dealer picked up 1/2 of repair cost. He said he had never seen this problem before. Dt.

Transmission "park" failure.
While driving at 45 mph transmission locked up, and consumer had to control vehicle off the road. Contacted dealer, and the dealer replaced transmission.
Our concern stems from not only the failure of our transmission, but more importantly from the number of times we have been asked by others, if we have ever had transmission problems with this particular model. We frequently pull our fifth wheel RV and come into contact with numerous people at the RV parks. In too many conversations to recall, the topic of discussion has been the 2001 Ford F-350 transmission problem. Everyone seems to have either encountered the problem with their own truck or knows of someone who has. We began experiencing minor problems at around 17,000 miles which increasingly got worse. The planetary (sp?) gear is what we were told was the actual problem that Ford has pinpointed with these transmissions. The number of transmission shipping cases alone, found in back of the dealership where we had our truck repaired indicative of a widespread problem not being addressed by Ford. From what we have learned, this problem does not occur until your mileage is above 15,000. Since the warranty on the transmission expires at 36,000, I expect Ford is simply playing the odds on the required replacement happening after the warranty period rather than issuing a recall on the planetary (sp?) gear. Thank you on behalf of all Ford consumers for looking into this matter. Vickie ragle.
Purchased this truck new from the dealer at 51,000 miles they had to rebuild the transmission truck then worked good for a while then they had to replace the trans computer at my expense now at 81,000 miles the transmission is doing the same thing as at 51,000 miles I was told by the dealer that the transmission is only covered for 12,000 miles I feel Ford should be responsible for this seeing as there must be some sort of defect in this unit as others are having the same problem with hard shifting in an automatic from 1st to second and having passing gear kick in all the time.

The parking brake will not hold well on an incline. This is especially noticed in reverse, as on a boat ramp with a boat that I am trying to launch. I can set the brake as hard as I can and the truck will still roll back against the parking pall in the automatic transmission. It becomes very difficult to then shift the transmission into gear. The dealer has looked at it twice and stated that they don't see a problem but they cannot duplicate the conditions.

Vehicle stalls. Transmission oil filter shifts in a manner that it cuts out transmission flow which causes the engine to shutdown. Ford doesn't have the filters available. Dealers had to drill holes on the side to allow oil to flow. Ford aware of the problem, TSB issued, but modified filters still not available.

I have a two year old f350 powertruck diesel and the transmission has gone out of it at 49,000 miles. It is just out of warranty. I believe this to be poor quality workmanship/design when I spend over $30,000 dollars for a vehicle and the transmission goes out of it before 50,000 miles. I never tow over 6,000 lbs with this vehicle and have only completed two trips in excess of 200 miles. All other trips are under 100 miles. The Ford dealer said they might be able to help if I could provide all receipts showing I had the required maintenance completed. I generally service all vehicles myself and have little or no receipts. When I did have a reputable company do my maintenance they were and are unable to locate the appropriate information in their data base. Ford wants to put a remanufactured or rebuild back in at my expense and I feel this is completely wrong and I bought a vehicle that should have been built much better. Any assistance or direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, sincerely, dan yopp.
While driving on highway transmission/overdrive went out and couldn't shift into any gears. Contacted dealer. Dealer put in a new transmission. 15000 miles later, transmission went out again. Contacted dealer again, and at 26000 miles transmission went out once more. This was the 7th transmission replaced.
Transmission is not able to hold vehicle when it comes to pulling a trailer. Contacted dealer and manufacturer.
The vehicle is being used to pull a trailer and the transmission will not hold the vehicle without putting it in park position. The vehicle will roll in the opposite direction.
I have had three replacement transmissions model: (e-4od). I now have 48,000 on my truck and I need a fourth transmission. The problem consists of poor shifting (hard shifts, untimely shifting, shifts into od when it is off, and you must depress gas pedal moderatley to proceed in reverse) I reported this problem initially on Nov of 98, and the dealership replaced the transmission each time free of charge but they only would put a re-manufactured transmission in it due to they meet the same specs. As new transmissions. I had the engineer from Ford at my dealership two weeks ago and he found no problems but the technician that normally provides service on my truck stated it was not acting up for some reason on that day. I know there have been multiple problems with this transmission, (the town of wallkill, NY dial-a-bus has- I think over 80 replacement e-4od transmissions - it is also serviced at village Ford) I have also found out from other f-series diesel automatic owners that many have had problems with theirs. I feel I have had the run-around by Ford and I am very dissatisfied with this vehicle. Please look into this problem - I didnot find any info on your web site but I know there are many technical service bulletins on this component. Thank you in advance! - kurt hahn.
When our transmission went out, we had it fixed, but had to keep returning it to the shop because a valve would stick after driving a couple of days. I called many Ford dealers, and they all said the transmission on that truck should never go out. I conta.

Consumer has been experiencing problems with automatic transmission. While driving vehicle continues to move on its own after the brakes have been applied. The manufacturer has been contacted.
4 wd never worked, but did not realize until warranty out; ball joints kept going out, had to be fixed twice, auto transmission went out shortly after warranty out, were told was faulty trans. And Ave. Of 1 per day throughout us were going out, that Ford was switching to different type transmission in future. Trans. Repair contacted Ford to see if they would fix it since it was close to warranty mileage, they refused. We have since heard many stories of other owners having same problem.
