4 Spare Tire problem of the 2007 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

We were driving on the freeway, and just started climbing through the mountains, with our f350 towing our trailer. We noticed a strange sound from the tires and decided to pull over at the next exit to check it out. Before reaching the exit, the drivers side rear tire blew. We had bf goodrich all terrain tires on our truck that had 18,000 miles on them and the tread completely separated and damaged our truck bed which caused $10,000 worth of damage. We were fortunate that my husband was trained what to do in such situations which prevented us having an accident as we could have lost control of the trailer very easily. Fortunately, the truck was still drive-able after taking off a support bracket and putting the spare tire on. After getting to a city with a tire store, we ended up purchasing 2 new tires so that the rear axle had a matched set. We purchased the same type of tire as we previously had as we never had a problem before and thought it was just a fluke. But after reading reviews after being at home, I'm wishing we looked into other options. Unfortunately, when you are on a trip, it isn't the best time to research tires. We had the tire submitted to michelin, but they are saying it wasn't a defective tire. Glad we have insurance to fix our truck.

8 Spare Tire problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/23/2008

While driving a 2001 Ford f350 pickup on the us highway 50 freeway in the shingle springs, CA, area, I had a firestone steeltex a/t lt265/75r16 tire blow-out and tread separation. The original equipment tire and vehicle had 31,617 miles on it at the time of the failure. I obtained roadside assistance to have the failed tire removed and the spare tire installed. I remembered that several years ago that there was an issue with firestone tires installed on Ford vehicles. I found that recall number 04t003000 was issued, which stated that I should have received a notification to owners that began on March 5, 2004. I never received the notice to take my vehicle to a Ford dealer for the free replacement of the tires as indicated in the recall notice. I contacted the Ford dealer where I bought the truck new in 2001 concerning the tire failure and replacement per the recall notice. The Ford dealer stated that they were not aware of the recall notification and advised me to contact Ford motor company. The Ford motor company representative refused to acknowledge that the recall notice that was issued applied to the firestone steeltex a/t tires that were installed on my truck as original equipment. I contacted bridgestone firestone who advised me to ship the failed tire to nashville, TN, at my expense for their "evaluation", but failed to address the issue of the safety of the remaining 3 tires and the 1 installed spare tire that are still installed on the vehicle. As of this date I have the failed tire and I have not shipped the failed tire to bridgestone firestone. I am now concerned about the safety of the 4 firestone tires that are currently installed on my vehicle.

Original tire size lt275/65r20. Spare tire size lt275/70r16. 2006 king ranch F-350 , 4 -door powerstroke diesel. Factory spare tire won't fit over the brake caliper. Should've been a 20 inch rim as are the stock ones. This is not one of Ford's better ideas! should be a recall and replace with the right size.

13 Spare Tire problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/09/2005

1. Left front tire on 1999 Ford f350 four wheel drive dually with 18,800 odometer miles started to shake at highway speed approximately 10 seconds before tire blew from cord separation. Tire has almost full tread depth as new tire. It is a general grabber tr in 235/85-r16 size that was equipped as original equipment on this vehicle. Tire was inflated to manufacturers specified air pressure of 65 psi. All seven tires on this vehicle had been recently checked (within the last week) for proper inflation and any abnormalities. I was not towing a trailer. There were four adults in the vehicle at the time of this incident. 2. Tire blew violently, causing vehicle to swerve into oncoming lane of traffic. Fortunately, there was no oncoming traffic at that time. Tire remains ruined fender, abs system, bumper guard, and inner fender well, along with wheel and other components before vehicle could be stopped from 60 miles per hour. 3. I was able to limp home approximately 100 miles using spare tire, and wiring, fender well, etc. Out of contact with tire. I do have the defective tire.

14 Spare Tire problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/06/2005

The consumer purchased a Ford f350 extended cab dually in 1999. Three years ago the tire cable that holds the spare tire underneath the vehicle broke while pulling into a driveway. The consumer took vehicle to dealership and they replaced the spare tire cable free of charge. The dealer had no explanation as to why it happened. Since purchase the spare tire had not been used or touched by anyone. Recently, when at a tire shop while getting tires replaced and an oil change the serviceman noted there was no spare tire underneath the vehicle. The cable was again broken. The consumer was not aware of this, and did not know when the spare tire cable broke. The consumer contacted Ford dealer, but the warranty expired and the dealer would not replace the spare tire cable. The consumer contacted Ford customer service, and they too declined to offer any assistance. The consumer felt this was a safety issue because the spare tire cable could break on these vehicles, causing an accident or injury to others.

15 Spare Tire problem of the 2002 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 07/30/2005

Coming home from shawnee about 40 miles from home, and at about 20 miles from being home felt a bad vibration in steering wheel pulled over to check tires, felt all around them noticed that there where indentations in side walls, later found out that these are called lemmoning marks, got back in truck and continued on at a slower speed of about 60 mph,and about 3 to 4 miles down the road a severe vibration started and then the left front blew out bad causing to me be swept off road to left severely into the median, these tires only have 29096 miles on them I firmly believe that these tires are defective and after being stranded on road for about 4 hours waiting for Fords roadside assistance because I am in a wheelchair I had too be towed home. Where upon checking several web sights I found that many people have had the same problem at about the same mileages the rest of my tires seam to be having the same symptoms plus some signs of chalking this is also a sign of defective tires. Also I have not driven on them since,I am trying to get some response out of general tires because my truck suffered severe damage to the whole left front quarter panel and all the abs wiring system is tore up and hanging loose,I could not get the spare tire off of its rack because Ford did not put the spare tire key that you need to lower the tire down off of it's rack, was told by Ford that it would need to be towed again to bring it in to have spare tire rack cut!! off to get to spare,I feel that there should have been some type of notice put out by Ford about this spare tire problem because I found out also that the keys are no longer available, this is why I will have to have it towed in again to get my spare. Cut off. I feel this is a major problem that needs to be addressed so that no lives are lost or people injured. Thank you donnie.

19 Spare Tire problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 03/18/2001

I had just checked the tire pressures (70psi) prior to leaving home. 45 minutes into the trip, I felt 2 or 3 seconds of rough shaking of the steering wheel and then a loud noise accompanied by a "drop" of the left rear of the vehicle. I had taken my foot off of the acelorator at the shaking and maintained control while gently braking and when slowed enough, pulled off of the highway. I was towing a gooseneck trailor and all whights were within load capacity of the f350. The sepeaated tire tread completely tore up the rear panel of the truck, two estimated within $50 of each other; lowest was $2654. I filed a claim with firestone to pay or the repair and was required to send them the tire remants as part of that claim. I think those tires are too light for a superduty truck rated at 3600# load capacity. There were no injuries with the blow-out, but I cut my finger really badly undoing the bent fender strut damaged by the tire in order to get the spare tire on. (dot number: vnw81xl487 tiresize: 265/75r16).
