2 Tire Bubble problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

I have a 2011 Ford f350 that came with michelin ltx a/t2 - lt275/65r 20 tires. It has just over 28,000 miles, has only been serviced by a Ford dealer, with each service report indicating no problems with respect to tire issues. Traveling on the freeway I experienced a shaking in the front end like a wheel had thrown a weight. Pulling off the road I discovered a tread separation bubble approximately 12-13" long on the outer portion of a front tire. After changing to the spare we continued that day's driving. The next drive in the truck was towing our 5th wheel home and I again experienced the same shaking. I pulled over again and found the other front tire had separated in the same manner and size bubble. The two separations occurred within 300 miles of each other. It was only my recognition of the vibrations in the steering wheel that alerted me to pull over to inspect the tires before they blew out catastrophically. A catastrophic tire failure under normal circumstances is difficult enough, but while towing is an imminently greater hazard. I found the closest Ford dealership and had to purchase two new tires to get home. Once there I went to my Ford dealer and told them I wanted the other two tires off the truck before they failed. They have contacted michelin on my behalf and as yet I have not heard back from them, although it's only been a week. I hope michelin steps up and replaces all four tires. The only other piece of information that may be a contributing factor is that although the tires are warranted for 60,000k miles, they were worn to (7/32-5/32-10/32) on the bubble, 180 degrees (7/32-5/32-9/32) on one tire and (8/32-7/32-10/32) and 180 degrees across (10/32-7/32-10/32) on the other. I filed this report because I see that michelin has had a very similar problem with their ltx m/s2 tire and has or is conducting a voluntary recall. This tire is so similar to the a/t that I have to wonder if it's just a different tread pattern on the same tire carcass.

3 Tire Bubble problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/11/2007

The contact owns a 1999 Ford f350. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to shake. The contact noticed an air bubble on the driver side tire. She took the vehicle to the tire plus store where it was replaced under warranty. The failure recurred, however, there were four air bubbles in the tire and the tread had separated from the rim. The tire store stated that they will not repair it under warranty and that she would have to purchase new tires. They also suggested that she was striking the curb when parking and driving, which was the cause of the failures. The contact replaced the tires herself. The tires were bridgestone dueler a/t 693, size lt265/75r16. The dot number was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 100,000.

4 Tire Bubble problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

While driving the tire tread separated causing damage to the vehicle. The first tire was replaced within the first year of owning the vehicle because the tire was leaking air. The second occurrence was when the tread separated while driving 65 mph. The third and fourth tires developed a bubble.

5 Tire Bubble problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 03/20/2004

Bought 6-10ply heavy duty truck tires for my Ford 350, dually, diesel truck & I rotated them every 6 months. When I was in a mall, a passer-by stopped me to tell me my left front tire, on the inside had a huge bubble in it. When I looked, it was around 8 to 10 in. Around & when I stopped, it did not go down, it stayed there. I only had them for about 2 yrs. I bought them from a & k tires on moody blvd. , in flagler beach, FL. 32136 goodyear would not even pro-rate them, I had to buy another tire. Now, I am afraid the other 5 will do the same & as a retiree, I can't afford to buy 6 tires every two years for my truck. I am afraid another bubble will come up on the other tires, but I am stuck with them. If it had blown out on the expressway, there could have been a serious accident, but thanks to a concerned passerby, there was no accident. Hope I am that lucky again, if the other tires go out too.

8 Tire Bubble problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/05/2000

8-5-00 had to buy a replacement tire on the left front of truck. There was a large size bubble on the outside of tires sidewall. On 9-1-00 had to have another tire replaced on the front right side due to large bubble on the inside sidewall. 9-6-00 went to pioneer Ford and had service manager (mark elfring) look at tires and he stated that I have the same issue on more of the tires. Contacted manufacturer and they are willing to only pro rate tires and we do not want to put more of general tires on our vehicle. 2 separate tire dealers (discount tires) employees have stated to us that these tires have this problem all of the time and they see them coming in like truck loads. We were also told by the mechanic at pioneer Ford on 9-6-00 that he also sees this problem and recognizes that there is a problem. ( dot number: tire size: lt235/85r- ).

9 Tire Bubble problem of the 1996 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/14/2000

I purchased a set of bridgestone dueler a/t 691 size 33x12. 50 16. 5 "d" tires for my Ford pickup. They were about half worn when we went on vacation this spring. I checked the tire pressure before leaving. While driving the left rear tire literally blew apart. By the time I got to the side of the road I was on the rim and had several hundred dollars damage to my truck. I had to purchase a used tire for a spare to get back home. Within a couple weeks, one of the other tires started separating and I got a large bubble in the tread. I started to the tire dealer and yet another tire started separating and another large bubble. I had to go back home at 10 mph. I took the tires off and took them to a firestone store in roseville, CA. I spoke to royce wise (managing partner) and he told me they would replace the tires giving me an allowance for the tread wear. I agreed and all seemed ok until mr. Wise found that firestone no longer made tires of that size. He then told me there was nothing he could or would do about the tires. I asked him who I could contact at firestone and he gave me the phone number of the district office (916) 486-3852. When I call the number I get a recording to leave a message which I have done on four different occasions now and have not received a call back. It is obvious I am not getting anywhere with this complaint. I had to purchase a new wheel and set of goodyear tires for my truck. I have kept the remaining three tires for evidence. I have sent complaints to firestone over a month ago and received no response. If you are unable to reconcile this problem, could you please provide me with the name and address of a local firestone representative. I would like to settle this matter in small claims court if possible. ( dot number: ejyccfn435 tire size: 33x12. 5165 ).
