5 Power Window problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/18/2009

The rear passenger and rear driver windows are broken. It started with the rear passenger, not going up, or down, then not staying up at all. . Then it was the rear driver side that did the same thing. The problem is even when you think it is up and in place, all of a sudden it is a quarter down, or half way down. If it rains you might as well tape plastic over windows, to keep rain and cold out. I have been reading the complaints that are filed on odi. Nhtsa. Dot and also reading the multiple ones that come up on the internet when you type in Ford Focus window problems. How many people does something need to affect before they do an investigation of an item? it is obvious to me that the issue ii the window motor regulator.

7 Power Window problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/08/2008

Back in July (ish) of 07, my 4 door Ford Focus zx5 passenger side rear door window fell in the door while driving. On Aug 8, 2008 my driver side rear window fell in the door as well. I had my 2 girls in the back seat this time. The first time this happened I took it to a Ford dealership and was told that the top pulley had broken out of the door causing the window to fall. I now have 2 non functioning windows with the same thing wrong with them within almost a year from each other. Just waiting for the front windows to do the same while I'm driving down the road.

10 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

I have a 2002 Ford Focus. About a year ago my left rear window regulator went out while I was driving down i24. The sound of the window slamming down scared me so bad I almost drove off the road at 70mph with 3 kids in the car. The sound was like a gunshot. About 2 months later the right rear window regulator went out this time I was driving my 3 year old son to the babysitter. The sound was so loud I swerved almost hitting the car next to me. I got both windows fixed for about 350. 00. A week ago the left window regulator went out again. I am now afraid to drive this car for fear the next window will go out and startle me into an accident.

11 Power Window problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/18/2007

I have a 2000 Ford Focus as does my ex both having the same year make and model of the Ford Focus! the problem in which we both have encountered is that 3 out of the 4 windows in our cars no longer work the windows at first would make a popping sound on some others just broke suddenly. Now when I say broke the motors to all the windows still work but the plastic clip that holds the window on the tracks. I recently took my car to have safety and admissions done and was not able to pass safety do to the fact that my drivers side window does not role down. What I have been forced to do is all three of the windows not working are either held up by tape or a door stop from the inside. Do to my windows having to be held in the manner they are I am constantly worried about my car being an easy target for a break in thus I don't have the comfort level I feel I should with my own vehicle. I haven't been able to fix the windows yet due to the high cost of nearly $200 per window. As I see it this would have to be a factory default seeing if it had only happened to one window maybe a fluke but three of my four also three of the four on my ex's vehicle too!!!.

12 Power Window problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/20/2007

Over a two year perio, three of the four electric windows on the vehicle failed to perform, specifically opened and closed. All three regulators and motors were replaced, at a Ford delership, for approximately $1,200, $400 per window.

13 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/12/2007

When the rear window, (both), is raised over a period of time,(3-5 yrs), the upper cable retainer on the window elevator,(its made of plastic), breaks off allowing the window to drop down. This is both a security& a safety issue. I have old parts I've replaced the right rear elevator in 4/07 now the left has failed. (11/07).

14 Power Window problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/22/2007

The driver side rear electric window of my 2003 Ford Focus LS has malfunctioned & failed to respond to switch control. Motor function seemed to still be intact but the window didn't respond to the electrical switch on the door panel. This resulted in the window being stuck in a half down position but could be pulled back up manually with little resistance. 1 week later the passenger side rear window exhibited the exact same symptoms. After calling a few local dealerships/repair shops, I was informed that the window(s) had probably come "off track" but they could not be certain without inspection. I received an estimate of $200 just to look at the problem, the estimate did not include any additional fee's that may incur thereafter. I contacted triumph auto glass to repair the problem and was told by the technician that this is a very frequent problem with the Ford Focus model & that he has ran into this problem several times in recent months. He wasn't able to repair the problem at the time, but he was able to identify the problem as he had ran across it numerous times. He stated that both regulators for the window motor's had failed & estimated the repair cost to between $500-$600. 00 ! I was not able to afford that expenditure at this time & opted to glue both back windows shut in the up position. So now I have essentially no rear windows (at least windows that function) & there is damage to the carpet & upholstery from the elements. Not to mention the fear of possibly having the car broken into or stolen. I did wish to make you aware of this issue as it seems to be quite frequent. I have checked your site & several others for the Ford Focus & was unable to find any recalls or bulletins for this problem. But it's a big problem & a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed by Ford and I am obviously not the only one affected by this mechanical failure. Thank you for time and attention to this matter. Sincerely, mark williams.

15 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/22/2007

The window regulators are defective for the two rear windows in my 2002 Ford Focus. The first incident occurred about a year and a half ago when the back left window just fell while the vehicle was being driven. The windows are never lowered since we live in florida and always use the a/c. The same thing happened to the right rear window about 6 mths ago. This is obviously a manufacturer's defect and should be covered under a campaign or special policy. This has not been repaired since the cost is excessive and should be covered by Ford. Ford should step up and release a special policy to cover this unnecessary issue.

16 Power Window problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/11/2006

: the contact stated while attempting to engage the power window control, the front driver side power window failed to open without warning. After initial inspection by the contact, the left rear passenger side power window failed to operate as well. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who determined the power windows were worn, and failed due to normal wear and tear. The manufacturer was not alerted.

17 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/01/2006

The window regulator has gone out in two different windows--both back windows which were never lowered-- in my 2002 Ford Focus. The first incident was a year and a half ago when the back left window just fell as I was driving down the street. The same thing happened to the right rear window on Dec. 1, 2006. This is obviously a defect since the same thing happened to one rear window in my daughter's 2001 Focus, and I have recently seen two different Focuses in my area of town that have their back windows held up by packing tape, just as mine was! the local Ford dealer told us it would cost $500 plus to fix each of the two windows, so we took the car to an independent shop where we had to pay $221 in 2005 and will pay approximately that amount again when we take the car in on Dec. 20.

18 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/08/2006

The window regulator on the rear window on the passenger side of my wife's 2002 Ford Focus broke when she attempted to roll the window down using the electrical controls. Once the window was rolled down, it would not roll up. The parts manager at the Ford dealer informed me that all of the rear passenger side window regulators of the 2002 Ford Focus' break. This is dangerous because a small child could fall out of the vehicle. Additionally, since the window cannot roll up, if it is raining visibility out of the rear window is nil.

19 Power Window problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/11/2006

2001 Ford Focus-window regulators fail without notice. 5 times the window regulators failed, 3 of those while driving under normal conditions, the window either dropped or would not roll back up if window was open. The first 3 times it was over 100 degrees outside and the air conditioning would not cool the back seat where my newborn was sleeping. All 4 windows have done this at least once, the driver side front window has done it twice. Ford fixed the problem 4 times and refused on the fifth time. The customer service representative from Ford in dearborn, mi hung up on me 3 times refusing any service.

20 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/07/2006

Both rear passenger window regulators failed on my 2002 Ford Focus se wagon outside of warranty. The windows were never abused / mis-used in any way. This is an obvious design or manufacturing flaw, yet I had to pay for the entire cost of replacing the regulators. Ford was requested to provide some assistance but declined to offer any. Updated 03/05/08.

21 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/29/2006

In 2006, I had purchased a used 2002 Ford Focus se. A couple of months after my purchase, my right rear power window would not go up using the power button. About 3 weeks later, the left rear power window also stopped working and stayed down. The windows had to be propped up with tape and door stopper wedged in order for the windows to stay up. When finally taken to a mechanic, the mechanic said both power window motors had to be replaced at the cost of $400 each.

22 Power Window problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/11/2006

My husband went to the store with daughter on a rainy day. The passenger side window came crashing down. In trying to fix the problem. We found that the 2 brackets that hold the window up has 2 plastic arms which had broken. I have contacted Ford about the issue and has said that at this point there is no recall. So they are going to do anything about it. I believe that a broken window in the snow belt is a safety issue. So I'm bringing this issue to you. Thank you r. Battles.

23 Power Window problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/05/2006

The driver side rear window operating cable mechanism broke. This was shortly followed (within a month or so) by the failure of the same mechanism in the rear passenger side window. Both windows fail to rise and any attempts to use the window switches are answered with grinding cracking sounds. The windows are currently held up using coat hangers.

24 Power Window problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/10/2005

Both rear passenger windows systems have failed, with no warning, within a month of each other. The window will not open or close, and unless it is secured in the frame, it will slide down into the door and stay there. The window regulator that fails is a Ford (plastic) part, that costs over $130 and needs a special tool to replace. Every place in town that I called about this says they repair more Ford Focuses than any other car, as this part is clearly defective. I see many Focuses with windows taped up, etc. I'm considering just gluing the second window into place in the frame, as over $200 (parts and labor) to replace a defective part is money I do not have.

25 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

Broken window regulators two of them with in 1 month of each other. Plastic part is defective and cracks making the window drop down. Piece can not be replaced and the whole regulator need to be replaced.

26 Power Window problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/15/2005

The consumer states he took his vehicle to a mechanic and was told the vehicle needed a new window regulator. When he called the dealership they stated that the part was on back order and would not be available until August 15. The power windows on his vehicle was rising sideways. If this continues to happen, the mechanic stated it would eventually break.

27 Power Window problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/02/2005

28 Power Window problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/24/2004

We have had three electrical windows to fall inside the door panels. Each time was due to the regulator. First time was under warranty April, 2004. The second and third time, has now happened sept and October, 2004. We have had to pay for both of these windows. There is odviously a defect in the original regulators. What are your chances of three power windows falling inside your door panel because the regulator went out on them. Two of the windows has only been used up to 10 times total since I have owned the vehicle since may, 2001.

29 Power Window problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/22/2004

I was sitting at my daughters school, I tried to roll down the back passenger window I herd a loud noise like glass breaking. I got out of my car to see what the problem was and seen that the window had gone all the way down, when I tried to push the button to raise the window I kept hearing a strange noise and noticed the window would not go up. I contacted the dealer and they told me the power window regulator had gone out and they would fix the problem for over $ 400. 00 because my warrenty had gone out 3 days earlier. I was very upset to learn my warrenty was out because my car was only 2 years old. I had spoke to many other people and they had also had problems with the power windows, so I shocked when I contacted the Ford motor company in ohio they said they had never had any complaints before about the issue.

30 Power Window problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/23/2004

Rear window developed stress cracks without being stroke by an object. Dealership was notified and acknowledged that the stress cracks occurred because of a defect, but the manufacture failed to replace the window under warranty. The window was replaced by the insurance company.

31 Power Window problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/06/2004

On both rear windows (electric), the plastic part at the bottom of the window has broken, making the window inoperable. The part secures the cables for raising and lowering the windows. In both cases, they broke simply from closing the door.

32 Power Window problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/30/2004

2000 Ford Focus. . . Purchased new in may 2000. . . . . Presently has 30,350 miles on it. I have had three of the four automatic windows break within the past ten months. The first on broke in June, possibly July 2003 (back left window), the next one to break was the back right window, and today , April 30, the front driver's side window is broken. Motor starts to grind and then stops responding to the on/off button and will not move the window. . . Which then slips all the way down into the door panel. Since my car is now out of warranty the dealership doesn't seem to think that having three different windows malfunction odd. I do not have young children that roll the windows up and down an unuseual number of times. . . In fact, I seldom roll down the back windows and only use the driver's window when going to the bank, or such things. I find it hard to believe with all of the recalls and other problems that this vehicle has had that this is not yet another one.
