Wiper Problems of Ford Focus - part 1

My wipers worked, then paused mid windshield and went back down. Now they no longer work. Both fuses have been checked and there is nothing wrong with them. Now my wipers are unusable which makes my car unsafe to drive. Brought it to the mechanic and they said it looks like the same issues that affected this model on a recall a few years ago. However, when I look up recalls it shows that there are none that affect my specific VIN.

When you turn on defrost it fogs up all the windows quickly. Can't see out windows. Have to roll windows down to see.

The purge valve has been an ongoing continuous problem since we bought the vehicle. I have fixed it multiple times. It’s caused the vehicle to stall after putting gas in the tank, and just recently stalled while driving, causing me to hit a curb leading to the passenger front tire popping, the rim being dented, the tire rod bent, alignment out of wack, and the valance ripped off. It also caused a dashboard light to pop up saying hill start is not available. I was in the car thankfully alone and not with my children. The windshield wipers are a fairly newer issue, they come on whenever they want with the switch being touch. But won’t come on when I try to do it myself. I had my mom take a photo of the steering wheel/road while I was driving to show the severity of the alignment needed, it’s causing extra wear and tear extremely fast on tires. Rainy season has begun and this is absolutely unsafe and not my responsibility.

I am having issues with the company Ford in regards to my vehicle. It has been at dowling Ford, in cheshire, connecticut for 5 weeks. I believe I am one of the unlucky 2015 Ford Focus owners who was sold a one of the cars that has a faulty transmission. After doing some research, I discovered that Ford has a lawsuit against them for unloading Ford Focus' with faulty transmissions. I will attach the link to the article stating this information. Ford is trying to charge me $5900. 00 to fix the car that wasn't even brought in for the reasons that they are trying to charge me with. I bought the car for just under 7,000. It is only a 2015 and has 106,000 miles on it and should not be running into these problems. I have contacted the corporate office of Ford multiple times and they refuse to offer any help what so ever. I have only had the car for two years. My car was only brought in because the wipers weren't working properly and it was overheating while only in idle. It was diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be replaced which was covered under the warranty. Well, the bad news began there when I had to wait 2 weeks for that part to come in because it was "back ordered". Once that was replaced, they tried to tell me now that something else needs to be replaced which was the clutches on the transmission and it would cost $3200. Then once they fixed that which took 4 more days, they now are saying something else is wrong which is the transmission case and would be an additional $2700. My car was not brought in for any of these issues and now all of a sudden, my car needs them all replaced. Ford, hasn't even offered me a loaner during the last 5 weeks. I don't feel safe in this vehicle, and I know that I am driving an unsafe vehicle that shouldn't have even been sold to anyone.

- faulty windshield washer pump pushing liquid into the body control module and harness - damaged electrical communications communications controlled by the body control module including: 1) functionality of the wipers resulting in obscuring the windshield from clear visibility of the road 2) vehicle will not reliably shut off after removing the key. It continues to run. 3) vehicle will not reliably shift into different gears due to the disruption of the electronic transmission signaling. 4) electrical system drains the battery after a few hours of sitting idle. - the problem has been identified by a dealership - a dealer has inspected the problem. - washer pumps would intermittently function and then randomly would not.

The front windshield wipers will slow after only a few minutes of use, in a heavy or light rain, and eventually come to a stop after about 30 more seconds. This happens every time I use the wipers in the rain. I have had it looked at by a Ford service tech at a dealership on at least 3 occasions, but they claim either that they cannot recreate the problem, or that they are designed to work that way to avoid burning out the wiper motors. Wipers should not be designed to stop working when it is raining, that is just ridiculous. Despite Ford's position that this is all new to them, or that it is how they are designed to work (depending on whom you talk to at Ford), the fact the wipers stop working during rain. . . Heavy, moderate, or light rain. . . It is a well-known issue across the Ford Focus st enthusiast community. A simply google search will uncover many identical reports. When the wipers stop working during a rain, you obviously cannot see clearly ahead. You can turn the wipers off then back on to get them working again, but they stop all the same soon after.

My windshield wipers are malfunctioning causing no visibility and battery to die. They will not turn off even after car in turned off and keys are no longer in emmision.

Passangers wiper motor stopped working, then driver side stopped working within 2 weeks of the passanger side failure.

The windshield wipers come by themselves and stays on after parking the car, stationary, engine turned off for approx 30 min. 3 days in a row. Dealership repaired it for labor $450!! the same faulty system was in a recall in this type of car some years ago.

While driving my 2012 Ford Focus se on 4/28/2021 at 45mph my windshield wipers began to move erratically on their own - at different speed levels. They did not respond to the lever at all. The wipers continued after ignition was turned off. At 7:15am the next morning of 4/29/2021 while driving at 20mph, the windshield wipers responded to the lever when turned on and off. However at 10:30a, the windshield wipers began to move back and forth erratically again without being activated by the lever. Later in the after noon, 5pm while driving on the highway at 65mph, the windshield wipers stopped working all together in the midst of a rainstorm. As of today, 4/30/2021 the windshield wipers are non-responsive.

Tl-the contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated while her daughter was driving apprximately 60 mph the hood released and cracked the front windshield without warning. The driver sustained injuries to the face and neck however no medical attention was provided. The local dealer was not contacted the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000. Ap.

I was backing out of my parents drive way and as soon as I turned my wheel straight the wind shield wipers started going and would not stop I turned my car off and took the key out and they still would not stop and then they stopped working completely. They worked for 3 days like usual and then they started going by themselves again and are currently not working, I've talked to people who have had this issue and they had a recall on their wipers. If it starts raining I can not see because sometimes they refuse to work, and when they start going by themselves it's harder for me to see because they go full speed and will not stop even when the car is off and the key is out, they went for about 20 minutes while my car was off. This is a serious saftey issue and it's happened to multiple other people with the same vehicle as me and they did everything to try to fix it and nothing worked.

There are multiple issues going wrong with my car and I have 5 children and this makes me angry and scared to drive it 1. Vehicle completely shuts down if you go under 1/4 tank and not on red at all! no gas light or anything 2. The hesitation from stop to go is getting worse" mechanics tell me this is normal" for a Focus and now sometimes when accelerating on the highway it gets stuck in certain speeds and feels rougher 3. Now there is a chain like rattling noise upon idle that is annoying and embarrassing 4 the codes state oxygen sensor ,speed sensor,fuel valve issue, and power train and abs. . . It's 100. 00 per issue to diagnose. How is anyone able to afford this? I'm not a mechanic but everytime I take my car in they give it back saying there's no issue or I have to pay more fees to find the issue before anything can be replaced? this is crazy! I don't feel safe driving this car with my babies in it but with student loans and my kids school costs I can't seem to save if I'm paying all these fees to try to figure out what the issues are . The front windshield is horrible because it's hard to see out of even when I clean it w auto glass cleaner, which I have never experienced before and is very dangerous.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to operate as intended. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer priority Ford (3420 n military hwy, norfolk, va 23518, (757)583-3673) where it was diagnosed with needing the body security module (bsm) fuse box to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

Wipers don't shut off when cared is off and don't turn on some times when I drive and it raining hard or snowing.

Driver side and passenger side windshield wipers failed to operate several times and get stuck periodically. Totally impaired vision in rain. Took the vehicle to the local Ford dealer approximately 1 year ago and they could not find the issue to resolve. They replaced with new windshield wipers which we had just replaced 1 month prior. They tried to adjust the placement of the wipers but this did not fix it. This vehicle has not been inspected by any other dealer or service center. There are multiple complaints of this same issue on online sites and forums with no real solutions prevalent. This is a major safety malfunction that needs to be addressed and recalled by Ford motor company and find a solution before any fatalities happen. This car is driven by my underage, new driver! extreme safety hazard!! no lights, warning lamps or problems prior to failure.

Wipers would not turn on. Then they can on by themselves, functioned irrationally and would not turn off even when the car was turned off and the keys were removed from the ignition. The car was stationary.

While moving if you turn on the windshields wiper fluid and the windows are down that fluid flows into the window and can sometimes splash I your face.

The wipers stop working and freeze up in the middle of the windshield constantly!! blocking view from driving. The car shudders every time you go from a stopped position. Worst car I've ever owned. Been to the Ford dealer several times. Never gets fixed.

I have had the clutch in this vehicle replaced 3 times and it currently has 37014 miles. I have had the steering wheel replaced because the heated steering wheel didn't work. I had the transmission module reprogrammed 3 times. And now my backup camera suddenly turns pitch black. It's random. I could just go into reverse and it is already pitch black. Or I could be reversing with a clear screen and then it turns pitch black.

This is in regards to my 2014 Ford Focus. When parking the vehicle the engine will not shut off, even with the key out of the ignition! faulty washer fluid pump leaks into electrical connector for washer pump and washer fluid gets pushed into wiring loom past the firewall and down into the bcm( body control module) connector part c2280d. The washer fluid then runs from the connector onto the male pins of the bcm corroding the pins and shorting out the bcm. This causes the vehicle to exhibit many faults, the worst are the vehicle not starting or as in my case, the vehicle would not shut off and continues to run even with the key out of the ignition. Ford recalled 433,000 vehicles for engines that don't shut off but my vehicle was not captured in the "build date" for the recall. I believe I missed the recall by weeks or a month at most?.

Wipers just stopped working with no indications of any issues. Changed fuse and no change. I used wipers on Monday while driving and Tuesday morning went to spray washer fluid to clean and sprayer worked and no motion in wipers. My car was in my driveway at 94 bethel ridge road.

Whenever it rains and I'm using my wipers they will just shut off randomly or they do a very inconvenient delay at the worst of times especially when it's raining hard. It's dangerous and you can't see. Oddly enough my horn don't work either. I got the car January 1st,2020 of course it was previously owned I got it from a used car dealer the horn worked until I think March, 2020. I hit a bump and it's like it just quit after that then a couple week later I got a bump again and it started workin for it a lite bit. Rhen a couple days went by and it just stopped never to work again. Checked all the fuses they all looked good none looked blown. It's scary because so many times people will either pull out in front of me like they don't see me or almost hit me and I have no way to alert them that they almost him me and need to lay attention. Then there's the whole having to take off slowly if not and you take off fast it the car will jerk and stall and it does it really when sometimes when turning and now the rpm drop so low when idling it almost dies. I just replace the motor a couple months ago and it was doing this before the ne motor got out in just not as bad. And it's kike you can press the gas pedal and push it but the car. Aren't beg jl and goes. . . It's scary to me and I usually always have my kid with me. It freaks me out because not only does it stall or whatever it's doing I have no horn to let people know to go around I know a girl I work with her daughter has the same car as me and stalking has gotta.

Driving in rain on country two lane highway at 35 to 45 mph, turned on slow windshield whippers and only driver side came on for a few swipes then the passenger side whiper came on for two passes. For the next 10-minutes while driving in the rain, only the driver side whiper worked. All of a sudden the passenger side whiper came on (out of sink) and crashed into the driver side whiper causing the passenger side to stop in motion. I almost ran off the road!! only the driver side whiper worked until I got home. I have not driven the car ever since this event. I will call my repair shop today to see if he can fix this safety issue. My 2012 Ford Focus mileage is only 033305.

Wipers suddenly stopped working while it was raining causing a serious safety risk. Couldn't continue to drive so was pulled over on side of the highway until rain stopped. Later wipers came on by themselves while switch was turned to off position and would not turn off until fuse was pulled. Have replaced motors and switch and they haven't been repaired. No longer working at all with no response to the switch at all.

Windshield wipers will go erratic for about 10-15 minutes while driving in the rain. When the wipers finally turn off they wont come back. Currently the wipers will not work at all after this last incident.

I have a 2007 Ford Focus zx5 and have had nothing but problems with the climate control switches and cables I have replaced these several time from the control lever cable,heat control cable they have both broke several times and they will work for a while and then they break or will not work, I recently purchased the whole control switch with heat, climate control, and speed and the cables and the mechanism that it hooks up to and within a week it does not work again, when I go from vent to defrost it will not go to defrost it is on the vents with this being said this is very dangerous especially if your f=driving in bad weather it could cause and accident. I have looked up these issues and all of the older Focuses have this same issue there are tons of videos and forms from other people with this complaint and if you call Ford they advise there is nothing they can do. That is why there are so many accidents because of the manufactures make cars cheap and sell them and do not care about peoples safety. What happens on these cars that the flap door in the dash in front of the heater core is so close that it melts the door so that the flap does not work properly what this should had been made out of is a aviation type aluminum and the housing around it so it does not melt and possibly cause a fire in the dash.

While driving my vehicle the wiper delay stops working or starts up after a delay into another setting. From delay to full wipers. Set the wiper arm into another command and it works fine again.

While driving, the wipers will go off non-stop. I pulled over, turned off the car and it was still on. I had to pull the fuse off to get to my destination. At this time, it's still happening. All at random times while driving.

Inoperative passenger side windshield wiper. Same as NHTSA campaign id number : 12v149000.

The car's exterior design causes the rear window and entire hatchback to continually become covered in road dirt and obscure visibility out the rear window. The rest of the car is immaculately clean but the wind dynamics of the car design cause road debris to accumulate on the rear portion or the car. This happens when in motion in all types of driving.

I was driving my car out of the gas station and I turned left and honked the horn because someone was still sitting at the green light. As I turned my steering wheel back straight the wipers came on by themselves and wouldn't go back off. This has been going on for a year. They turn on by themselves even when the key is out of the ignition. I have video proof not pictures. They don't work in the rain and I've tried just about everything I can to fix them but to no avail. If you look up wipers coming on by themselves on 2013 Ford Focus you'll see that my car isn't the only one doing this. I'm scared someone is going to get injured or possibly killed because they couldn't see when a rainstorm sneaks up on them.

I bought this car preowned from dealership. Within a year it had problems. Well driving at 30mph near my home the rpms shut up on the car while the speed stuttered as if the car was in neutral. I took it in right away other problems persisted on my way to the dealership such as not being able to shift correctly. They had told me they fixed the problem and all was covered under warranty so I was happy. This is where it got strange. They told me that they need to order another part and that it should be here within a week. As I am not very car savvy so I don't recall this part but it was under warranty so I was at ease. They offered to keep my car until the part arrived, which I thought was fine. . Luckily I didn't because 2 1/2 weeks went by before I made it back into the dealership and I asked the person who serviced my car when my part was coming in. He said it definitely should've arrived by now and it's strange that it hasn�t. I come back another few weeks later and they claim that there was never any order for me at all. I don't know who originally serviced me I just assumed they'd have my records. Flashforward a year later in the same exact thing is happening but even worse. It won't go in reverse or sport mode. It's been turning on some days and not others and it goes about 5 miles an hour. I try to take it into the Ford dealership and they're trying to say it is no longer under warranty even though my car is under 60,000 miles. They want to charge me $150 to diagnose I google several different places that will do it for free. Got the error code p2837. Ford still wants to charge me to diagnose. When I try to call and talk about how this car doesn't seem safe enough to have even sold and ask about the recalls they act like it's a one in 1 billion thing and keep connecting me to different departments where I just get an answering machine. Not right.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus titanium hatchback. I took my car into bob tomes Ford for a shuttering problem and was told to wait and see to continue to drive the car. Months later I had the tcm replace and now my clutch is out. These were all issues at the time I originally brought my car into Ford. After the tcm was replace I tried to pick up my car from bob tomes Ford service center and the service team could not start my car or get it in gear( yet somehow they "test drove" it). My car has stalled in the middle of intersections, my check engine light has come, my transmission is overheating and asking me to pull over and wait 5 minuets. This is extremely dangerous as I am a mother and have up to 3 children with me at one time. I can not trust my car to get me from a to b safely. My car dies randomly when it wants to. My car is now completely undriveable. I am still paying on this car and I can not even drive it! I need something to be done about this ASAP. This is absolutely terrifying that Ford is allowed to sell cars knowing the transmission is faulty before they were on the market.
