36 Wiper problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

While driving at highway speeds in the rain, front wipers stopped working causing visibility issues. Rear wipers continued to work correctly. After parking, we tried the wipers again, still would not work. Tried wipers again later in day in a garage, they still would not work. Checked fuse, fuse is still good. Swapped fuse with another known working fuse, both fuses worked but wipers still did not work. Later wipers started working without prompt, again causing visibility issues as it was not raining, but would not slow down or turn off. Shut car off, removed key from ignition and wipers continued to run until fuse was pulled again.

37 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving 30 mph, both windshield wipers failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to performance Ford Lincoln bountiful (located at 1800 s main st, bountiful, ut 84010, (888) 476-8961) where an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle repaired per NHTSA campaign numbers: 13v475000 (electrical system, equipment) and 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 12v149000 (visibility) regarding the wipers. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the wiper failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 116,000.

38 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/31/2019

Often when driving in the rain, and I have the wipers are on "low" or "high", after some time (not particularly consistent, sometimes within a minute, sometimes after several minutes) they will start working intermittently instead. That is, the wiper will be on, and then they will start pausing while at the bottom between wiper cycles, just as though it was set to intermittent, even though the wiper setting hasn't been changed. When this happens, I can switch the wiper setting to another setting and then back, and then it will start working again for a while. That is, if it's on "low" and this starts happening, I can switch the wipers to "intermittent" and back to "low", or to "high" and back to "low", and it will go back to normal "low" operation for a while (until the problem repeats). This has been happening for several years now.

39 Wiper problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

"takata recall" windshield wipers come on randomly, they will speed up and slow down. They will not turn off even when car is parked and key is out of ignition. This is a very serious safety hazard. I have had to drive down the road when it is not raining and the windshield wipers turn on by themselves. I am concerned this will also drain my battery and/or be a fire hazard. This has happened while driving, sitting stationary, and when car is completely off. I do not have a document to upload as I was driving but I can take a video if needed.

40 Wiper problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

Rear windshield busted without any objects hitting it. I had just turned off the rear defrost and rear windshield wipers, and the edges of the glass shattered. I was driving in motion on my neighborhood street in a straight ahead path. It will cost $200 for someone to come replace it.

42 Wiper problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

My wife ran out of gas on the highway, at highway speed, when the gauge said she had many more miles to go until empty. She did not expect to run out of fuel and doing so caused a great risk of person al injury and even greater inconvenience. The dealer may want to charge money to fix a problem that is most likely the same parts that I have heard are on recall for the 2012 Focus. There also seems to be a wiring issue with the wiper system. It was discovered to not be working one day when I went to use the wiper washer fluid to clean the windshield. There was no fuse problems or warnings that thing might be a problem. This is also most likely a recurring model year issue that has not been fixed but also has not been recalled yet.

43 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

Entire electrical sync system has shut down and no longer functions. While the sync was going out, the speakers would crackle and make loud, startling pop sounds. This caused jerky driving as they would pop without any notice, even if the sync system was turned off. Recently, the wind shield wipers turned on and were sporadically increasing/decreasing in speed and would not turn off. The car was on (not the engine) and parked when the wipers turned on. Attempted to turn the car off, reset by opening the doors, and turning the car back on. They paused and then started up again once the car was driving on city streets. The speakers popping and the radio malfunction occurs while driving, while parked, when the car is on, and when it is off. This problem has been getting worse and worse over the past year.

44 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated the while the windshield wipers were activated on the high setting, there was a 5 or 6 second delay. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to al packer's white marsh Ford (9801 pulaski hwy, middle river, MD 21220, (443)777-5000) and the contact was informed that the vehicle was working as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

45 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

Wipers would not work at any level while vehicle engine was running, then later began running on their own. This includes while vehicle was both stationary (0mph) and in motion (73mph). First incident of wipers not working at all occurred in the morning after vehicle was started for the first time of the day, and continued throughout the day. Later, during afternoon commute (70mph), wipers spontaneously started running on their own briefly without lever being pressed. On the same evening, when vehicle was stationary (0mph), wipers started running on high speed and would not stop running despite engine being turned off and keys removed from the ignition.

46 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/09/2018

After having the wipers replaced during last service today the wipers began to stop mid windshield and passenger side would just drop down all the way and then driver side would drop afterwards and they may stop and start at will. Never had an issue till the wipers were replaced by the dealer during routine oil change service. Driving at highway speeds and its rain gin to have wipers just stop is a safety concern.

47 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/28/2018

After having the battery replaced I drove away and the wipers came on all by themselves and only shut off after the car had been turned off for 15min or so. The next day the wipers wont come on at all.

48 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/24/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle windshield wipers turn on without warning. The contact stated that the switch for the windshield fails to work properly and the contact has no control on the speed of the windshield wipers. The contact stated the same failure occurred numerous amount of times. The vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 12v149000 (visibility). The dealer and manufacturer have not yet been contacted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 155,133. Am.

49 Wiper problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

The wipers stop working in mid sweep, sometimes it's the right side, sometimes the left. Happens when it's raining and also when the windscreen is dry. It is very dangerous as you can't se through the wiper assembly and you can't see through the rain. Car was in motion during the rain and in motion or stationary when used on a dry/damp windscreen.

50 Wiper problem of the 2009 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/25/2018

The windshield wipers and a/c fan would not go on when I got into the vehicle. The vehicle was hot inside from being parked in my driveway under the hot sun. I could start the vehicle and the a/c but the wipers and fan would not turn on. Once on the road, the wipers still would not work nor the a/c fan. I parked in the nearby library lot and waited for the rain to stop and ambient temperature to go down. Then the wipers started to work. I called the Ford dealership & got an appt for 8-7-18 to fix the problem but now the repair dept wants me to replicate the deficiency. I hold the dealership responsible for any injury or damage that happens if they refuse to fix the problem since I brought the vehicle in for repair on time. .

51 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/10/2018

Today, my windshield wipers came on by themselves when I was in a parked in a parking lot and turned the car on to turn on the ac. I thought I bumped the wiper stalk handle with my knee. But when I tried to turn it off, it wouldn't turn off. I checked my manual to make sure I was doing it correctly. I was. I turned off the engine thinking it would stop the wipers, it didnt. Something was wrong, so I knew I had to take it to a Ford dealership. Luckily, the dealership was only 5-10 miles away and the weather was nice. However, I felt ridiculous having to squirt water intermittently on my windshield worrying that the wipers might do damage to my windshield if I can't turn them off. I did take it to the Ford dealership, but they won't be able to look at it until noon tomorrow and they can't turn off the wipers either, but told me it won't damage my windshield. The diagnostic cost will be $125. 00 before any repair is done. I got a ride home from them. When I got home I started to investigate if the wiper problem I just encountered, any other Ford Focus se 2014 owners had. There has been recalls for this problem on earlier models of Ford Focus, 140,000 2012 models and also 2013 models. None for 2014. Apparently, this is a serious safety issue and I just saw there have been 89 complaints about this and it includes Ford Focus 2012, 2013, and 2014 models, etc. This should be a Ford recall item as the wiper problem has continued on subsequent models. I looked up the estimated cost for repair for parts, replacement, & labor and it's pricey. I love my 2014 Ford Focus se and never expected to encounter a wipers safety malfunction like this. I could only imagine in a severe rainstorm with thunder, lightening, and hail what a driver and passengers safety issue this could present.

52 Wiper problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/26/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while the vehicle wa idle the sunroof spontaneously shattered. The failure occurred without warning. Bob maxi Ford located 1833 e jefferson Ave, detroit, mi was contacted however no further assistance was offered due to the service technician stating that the sunroof was not covered by warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however no further assistance was offered due to no recalls being attributed to the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 14,500. Kh.

53 Wiper problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

When I turn on the windshield wipers, the wiper blades sometime stop, with the blades in a vertical position or another angle on the windshield. They may remain in that position for a minute or more. This has happened many times while driving on city streets and on highways. To get the wipers working again, I usually have to turn the wiper control off and then back on. During this time, rain is accumulating on the windshield, reducing visibility. This is very unsafe. I reported the wiper problem to the dealer, bob thomas Ford, 2215 dixwell avenue, hamden, connecticut 06514, on August 15, 2018, when the car had 11,122 miles on the odometer. The dealer did not fix the problem. Receipt from the dealership inspection stated: "refer to ssm 45753. " repair technician said he could do nothing about the problem. Since that time, the windshield wipers have continued to stop, unpredictably, in a vertical or other position on the windshield.

54 Wiper problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

The driver's side wiper is freezing and does not operate properly no matter what operation it is low, medium or high. I have had the wiper blades, wiper arm, and wiper motor replaced and none of it has fixed the problem. It has left me in several dangerous situations. I have almost wrecked numerous times. This has been going on for three months. Nobody seems to be able to fix the problem, including the Ford dealership service dept.

55 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/28/2018

First problem is with the radio. This began when my car had 37000 miles and the radio would make a loud thumping sound. The car would seem to shake and I did not realize it was the radio until the other issues began. A loud screeching and popping started which would come out of nowhere. This can cause a big disturbance since you are not expecting it to happen and it is extremely loud. Eventually the sound always occurred and even after turning the car off it would still continue - doors open and keys out of ignition. It finally stopped and there is no sound, but after six months it started making the sound again, and again out of nowhere. This is extremely distracting because there is absolutely no sound coming from the radio, off or on and it will suddenly start to shriek or pop. It stopped again, but I am waiting for it to begin again. I have taken it in to the dealer several times only to be told there is nothing that can be done and they have not seen this issue before. My next issue is with the wiper blades. This began recently and I have around 45000 miles on my vehicle. At first the wiper on the driver's side flew off while in use. I thought that I had possibly put tr he wipes on incorrectly even though it had been working fine for a month or so. I had the auto parts store put new blades on and again about two weeks later it flew off. Luckily I hadn't driven off and was able to retrieve the wiper and put it back on this time. Three months later the drivers side wiper will just stop working midway through the window. I can flip the wipers on and off several times and it will work for a second, but continues to get stuck in the middle of the windshield. The passengers side gets stuck as well, but will fix itself.

56 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/26/2018

The wipers freeze when in the intermittent mode. In took my Focus into palm bay Ford. They said that there was nothing wrong with the wipers, they were just dirty. They cleaned them with soap and water. The next in the rain the wipers froze up again.

57 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

The wiper blades are getting stuck on the window and makes it dangerous to see when it is raining and I am driving. Also when I press the accelerator (gas petal) the car hesitates to accelerate while driving.

58 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/08/2018

I was driving at night while it was raining I wanted to use the wipers to clear the rain using the intermittent button but they would not shut off and then the wiper just stopped, I can put the passenger wiper down manual and then the wiper will close. The wipers will not operate now.

59 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/27/2018

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving various speeds with the wiper blades operational, the passenger side wiper blade stopped operating. The contact stated that the failure obstructed the driver's vision as the wiper blade failed to stop. The dealer (lonnie cobb Ford, 1618 us-45, henderson, TN 38340, (731) 989-2121) stated that there were no recalls for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer stated that the repair could be difficult. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 63,000.

60 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/17/2018

Windshield wipers stop mid-wipe. Wiper control can be in any operating position (high, low, intermittent). This occurs whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary. It is identical, from what I have read on line and viewed in videos, to previous model years that have been recalled. I did not see a recall for this issue for the 2014 model year on the NHTSA we site, thus the reason for this submission. I purchased this vehicle used in September of 2017. Issue started about February 2018.

61 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/08/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph the wipers would come on and fail to turn off. The failure recurred. No lights illuminated. The dealer balise Ford 1979 boston rd, wilbraham, MA 01095 4133063049 was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but no further assistance was taken. The failure millage was 166,000.

62 Wiper problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/08/2018

Wiper blades stopping in line of sight during rain and snow conditions car has been taken to dealer multiple times and not being fixed. Has replaced windshield and motors and still occurring. Video showing problem not being taken seriously and tired of ricart not fixing.

63 Wiper problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/24/2018

Wipers will not work when raining. Then they will come on on their own. Then go off again then come on and not turn off even after then engine has been shut off and the key removed. This is a major safety hazard and has been reported several times by several people. 2012 was recalled for this very same thing.

64 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

Late in the month of February 2018 I came out to my car on a rainy Friday and when I turned on my vehicle the windshield wipers began to operate erratically and persistently with no ability to control them as the driver. The problem continued for over a week and the wipers would operate unpredictably and even when the car was fully shut off including the ignition power. This is a serious hazard caused by a known faulty part on this model of car that is susceptible to shorting out.

65 Wiper problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/10/2018

With just over 5k miles, our 2016 Focus has developed a wiper problem. The driver's side, to be exact. The wiper arm will go past it's normal stopping point, & then lock up. But sometimes, it will stop mid way, while the right side wiper continues to work. Have had it to the dealer 5 times already. They've made adjustment, & repairs, but it continues to mess up. Each wiper has an independent motor. Beginning to think we've bought a lemon. It doesn't matter if the car is in motion or sitting still.

66 Wiper problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Love my Ford for the most part; however, there seems to be a multitude of sensor problems . . . The engine light keeps coming on and has to be rest again and again. The "open door" light stays on when headlights are running. Trunk opening button does not always work. The window closing button only works part time on front passenger side. The knobs for the heating/ac no longer work. The air directional button has also stopped working. Recently, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working but it sounds like the motor is still working. I purchased my 2007 ff in 2011, paid it off in 2016. It now has over 235k miles on it. While all these issues have been a nuisance to contend with it has been a pleasure to own. I currently am working on getting the gasket changed for a second time, but that is work my son takes care of. I have reluctantly began began looking for another vehicle, as this one is finally wearing out.

67 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/08/2017

Washer fluid not dispensing.

68 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/30/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus se. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the windshield wipers failed to operate. While the vehicle was idling at a red light, the windshield wipers spontaneously began moving back and forth. Three months ago, while driving various high speeds on the freeway, both windshield wipers spontaneously activated. Once the contact arrived at his destination, the contact turned off the vehicle and the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure occurred continuously until the fuse to the windshield wipers was removed. A dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

69 Wiper problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Vehicle's windshield wipers come on spontaneously without turning them on at the switch. Wipers will not turn off when this happens. Wipers continue to stay on even when vehicle engine is powered off. The only way to keep this from happening is to remove the wiper fuse, which is not safe in case wipers are needed. Vehicle is at dealership now. Diagnoses: negative monitoring sensor needs replaced. Again, the dealership is not covering this under the extended warranty, so costs for repair will come out of pocket. Regardless of cost this is a huge safety issue since the wipers running when not needed can cause distractions and damage to the wiper blades when they are running on a non-wet surface.

70 Wiper problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

As I was driving approximately 60-65mph on the garden state parkway my windshield wipers came on without me telling them to. They cycled through fast, normal, intermittent, off for 60-90 seconds per cycle. After the second cycle I decided to exit the highway and find a place to park and shut the car off. I then hear a thud as I come to a light, 30 seconds later I see smoke. I pull into the parking lot and see lots of smoke and some flames coming from under my hood. I turn off the car and the wipers keep going. I get out and call 911 and within a few minutes my car is engulfed in flames.
