38 Tire problem of the 2008 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/09/2009

On 4/9/09 I was driving to work and I noticed slight vibration coming from the left rear pirelli p6 tire on my 2008 Ford Focus. I checked the tire and did not notice any visible sign of damage. On the way home the vibration got more severe. On arriving home I checked the tire and found one spot that was completely bald. From when I checked the tire at work to when I arrived at home I had driven a total of less than 90 miles for the tire to go completely bald in that spot. Both pirelli and 2 Ford dealers claim there were no problems with the tire, that the damage was due to a improper use of the emergency brake, improper alignment of the rear end of the vehicle, the tire not being balanced or failure to rotate the tires. I had the tires replaced by a local mechanic.

39 Tire problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

I recently had my 2007 Ford Focus in for an oil change and the automotive company told me I would need to replace my tires. I have rotated my tires every other oil change to ensure proper wear and even wear and also for safety and maintenance. I had approximately 40k miles at that time. I asked the automotive service company if pirelli warranties the tire and they said unfortunately not. I went to discount tire, they told me the tires need replacing and there is no warranty on the tire because it is an oem tire. Discount tire said pirelli makes that tire differently for the oem than the tire dealers. No warranty. I went to the Ford dealer and the automotive technician said the tires need replacing and that the pirelli's have been, in his words, "junk". He said, "miss, if you think your tires are bad, you should see the cupping and awful wear and hazard on the f150 pick-ups and expeditions". I asked him if he told Ford about this and he said no. I contacted Ford and no one cares to return my concern. Pirelli told me flat out in an e-mail that the tire is not covered under any prorating and basically it is my problem. I could have a blow out or something happen due to poor manufacturing. This tire, the p6 is a safety threat. No one will listen, no one cares. I was shocked by pirelli's remark and I did not ask for a replacement, I was just thinking of some type of proration on a better tire. I also recommended to pirelli that they might want this set for their engineering teams to review and study. I am sending this complaint to NHTSA because I care enough about other people and wouldn't want anyone injured.

41 Tire problem of the 2005 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/29/2008

My family and I were coming up from florida when it started to rain. I felt the car slipping on the road so I moved over into the far right hand land. The car slipped again and I hydroplaned and crashed car on Nov. 29th due to tires that were only 6months old. I felt these new tires had been worn smooth after only 10,000 miles of usage with a car that had no brake or alignment issues. The tires were full of air at the right pressure and I noticed no tread issues before leaving out of town. When filling out the police report, the officer wrote me a ticket claiming the accident happened because of the tires. We had to stay overnight in a hotel and purchased new tires the next day. I still retain the tires.

50 Tire problem of the 2007 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

I bought this new 2007 Ford Focus on 8-16-07 and when I left and headed down the highway my tires which are pirelli p6 four seasons 205/50r16 were making a terrible thumping noise. I called the dealer and was reassured by the salesman that the is what happens with low profile tires. I talked to him 5 or 6 times over a 2 to 3 week period and he kept telling me that is the sound of low performance tires. Well I went in for my oil change and to have my tires rotated and they told me my car was out of alignment and my tires were shot. The two front ones were wore on the inside and the back two had a funny wear pattern that they had never seen before. They also told me how much it would cost to have 4 new tires put on and a alignment. I went back to the dealer and I was put off. I was told I have no warranty with the tires as I was told by my salesman (who by the was is no longer there). I am upset because the service guy who made my appointment said they are seeing this alot with the 2007 Ford Focus pirelli tires but I am going to have to pay for new ones. I don't think so this is a problem I have had since I bought this car and something should be done a. S. A. P. Before someone gets killed out on the road.

57 Tire problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/07/2005

On January 14, 2005 I took my vehicle into paul harvey Ford for maintanence. I was informed that there were several things needing to be replaced, most was covered by my extended warranty. The service tech. Gary also informed me that I needed all new tires, and further said he could not warrant any work done unless I replaced them. So I gave him premission to do so. Feburary 7th, 2005 while driving home from work I was informed by a passerby that my tire was extremely low on the back driver side. I contact gary at paul harvey Ford regarding the flat and he ask if there was someone who could fix it. I reminded him that I just purchased four new tires from paul harvey Ford and that I planned to bring the car and tire in. I took it in the next morning with my husband who spoke with gary regarding the tire. Gary said he would have someone look at it while we waited. Gary returned and said that the tire could not be repaired because the hole was on the inside area of the tire and that it was against the law to repair, that I would have to pruchase another. I refused to do so and I'm still seeking remendy.

59 Tire problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/18/2004

1. I've had problems with this tire holding air. It has given me problems ever since I purchased it. It was taken to the dealer all through warranty. I've been putting air in it which has cost me a surmountable amt of money ranging from 25 cents to whatever the market charged cost of putting air in it to the current date. It ruined a good tire after 12,000 miles of use; it was rotated all the necessary times; only the right passenger front side tire no matter how many times it was rotated; the same side is faulty; August 2008, a service center discovered the problem. I told them to examine that particular wheel and see if they could figure out what problem exists. They discovered that the wheel is bent in 4 different places. I've had to be towed from my workplace; my auto club has had to send a service shopout to change the tire or pump it up. Sometimes this would happen in my driveway. After warranty it becomes the owner's problem. I believe the mfr and dealer were aware of the problem. An owner of a 2004, new at the time of purchase, also has a cracked wheel. Unless this problem is corrected, it will continue to cost purchasers more monies and accidents if driven over 30-40 miles per hr. This is a mfr's defect. A vehicle in this condition should not be driven on long trips at a high rate of speed, such as on the expressways and interstates. It is dangerous regardless of speed. Once air is put back into the tire, within a day's time, driven or not driven, it starts going down. Basically, just being parked, it will go down anyway. With the ethics of the dealership in this area, they probably did the same thing as I've been doing. , adding air to the tire and returning it back to me. Thank you.

60 Tire problem of the 2004 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

June 2004, I purchased a new 2004 Focus with p195. 60. 15 good year eagle rsa tires. I assume this is a standard tire used by Ford for this model, as I was not asked by the dealership if I would like to upgrade or change the tires. I never dreamed a car would be sold in this area without an adequate functional tire on. I am unable to control this vehicle in winter weather. With no warning, the car will veer out of control. I have driven in this type weather conditions for years, but never have I ever had a car with this type of handling problem. I do not have any difficulty with it in rain or dry conditions, so it is not a mechanical malfunction. I have had multiple failures in December & January. I was told by good year tire dealer that the tires are a high-performance tire and are not meant for winter driving. There are no gripping treads for snow and ice. I have to replace the tires on this car with 5,600 miles on them for safety purposes so that I do not risk injury or death to myself or someone else. I just do not understand why Ford has put this type of a tire on the vehicle. I should have been told by Ford the tires are not adequate for certain conditions. I am very upset that I have to replace a set of new tires on a new vehicle so that I can feel safe and not have an accident due to incorrect tires. I contacted the dealership where I purchased the car, however, they are not being very cooperative with my complaint. The only explanation I receive from them is that they don't know what I am talking about, or they have never had that kind of a complaint, or I am using bad driving judgment for the conditions.
