I was backing out of my garage and as I tried to turn the steering wheel to follow the curved driveway, it was impossible to turn it resulting in me backing into the yard and barely missing a tree before I could get the vehicle stopped. If I had been travelling on the highway when the failure occurred, it would surely have resulted in a horrible accident. For the power steering to suddenly fail while driving in traffic is a serious safety issue and Ford should recall these vehicles immediately!.
Power steering has failed 3 times on this car. . . Will be fine then power steering assist is lost and have had to replace the entire steering rack 3 times. Light comes on while driving then after turning vehicle back on will not move has to be towed.

When driving my 2012 Ford Fusion sel awd, the power steering will (at random) cease to function and causes extreme difficulty in steering. It is nearly impossible to pull over safely. At speed this is an extremely dangerous and terrifying event. The lights for the traction control system, the power steering system, and occasionally the advance trac system come on. It is not always all of the lights all of the time, and the errors vary. I have had it looked at and the codes read, and the problem persists. I need this fixed as I have two small children that I refuse to allow to ride in the car as I'm afraid for their safety. It strands me at random at work and at school an hour from home as well. Upon cranking the lights for power steering failures come on and I have to sit and wait on a ride. This is unacceptable. Someone needs to fix this problem as every time I have called multiple Ford dealerships, they give me a runaround explaining there is no recall for this issue. This is unacceptable because the internet is rife with posters have the same exact issues I am having and are having no assistance either from Ford. Please help us with this problem, as I cannot afford to purchase a new car after this one has drained me of my resources.

Known issue, safety recall for sudden loss of power steering 15s18, 14s06 and supplement and15n01 extended. Ford motor company will only repair the safety issue if certain internal fault codes are present indicating that certain components are defective, unfortunately there are more components that fail causing power steering loss, 2 codes that presented that resulted in power steering loss are c1277 and c1963 but these are not covered by the safety recall according to Ford. The issue is safety and all components that cause the sudden loss of power steering need to be covered under the safety recall and repaired at no charge to the consumer. I believe that Ford is skirting their responsibility to repair the the defective autos using the internal fault codes as an excuse. It doesn't matter what code is present when power steering fails as the codes are not the safety issue. The steering gear in this Fusion was replaced 8/2017. The power steering failed again and was towed to Ford in 3/2018, and the software was updated at owners expense and once again the power steering failed and was towed to Ford in 3/2018 and according to Ford the steering gear was replaced yet again at the owners expense, then the next day failed once more and the towed once more to Ford. Ford claiming that the first gear replacement closed out the recall. That is 4 power steering failures in the same car. Ford refuses to take responsibility for the defective components and has instead shifted to cost to the owners. There are hundreds of consumers that have faced this issue. The safety recall is not having the desired effect of repairing the issue and now Ford is playing a waiting game as the vehicles are reaching the 150 thousand mile threshold where by Ford will refuse to repair the problem. There are about 500 thousand of these defective cars on the road today and we are no safer.

The approximate failure mileage was 139,000. The VIN was not available. Ah.
I own a 2012 Ford Fusion VIN:3fahp0jaxcr117262. The 2012 Fusion has a safety recall 15s18 due to a known issue with the power steering control module shorting out and causing the power steering to fail while the vehicle is in motion. While manual steering is still possible, the force needed to exert on the steering wheel is immense, just to be able to change lanes. When the power steering goes out on a turn, it is nearly impossible to control of the vehicle. This is a serious and very dangerous known issue. I have been experiencing this known issue covered under your safety recall 15s18 for over 2 years. I have taken it to the quality auto mall dealership several times to have the system looked at so they could find the problem and fit it under the terms of the safety recall 15s18. Each time I took it in for service, the dealership was not able to duplicate the issue as it only happens intermittently, and I have not been able to make the power steering fail on demand. Last week, the power steering abruptly failed again. I once again took the vehicle into the quality auto mall dealership . The vehicle now has exceeded the 150,000-mile extended coverage to be included in the safety recall 15s18. Miraculously, this time, the service technician was able to duplicate the issue, and verify that there is indeed a problem with the power steering control module. Now, though, there is no coverage for the known issue covered by the safety recall 15s18 due to the age and mileage of my vehicle. I called the Ford customer service number 800-241-3673 on 06/07/2018 and explained the situation, asking for assistance from Ford as this known issue should have been covered under the safety recall 15s18 and should have been replaced 2 years ago. A case was opened for me cas-14977318, and I was told there would be a decision in 2 business days. Final result=will not cover under recall.
The "power steering assist fault" warning flashing on 2012 Ford Fusion upon turning on vehicle, experienced a power steering failure and steering wheel was extremely tough to turn.
The dash on my car reads power steering assist fault. the recall is for epas steering efforts this recall was performed once on my car already back in 2015, however the dealership only reprogram the module. They never the defective parts, which means they only half did the job. Now my car actually has power steering failure and the same error is coming up on the dash. I reached out to the dealership and they told me that I would be responsible for the cost and that the repair is out of warranty and the recall is closed. So I called the hoe office who said e they would look into it. Now after a day I have been informed that the home office will not enforce the recall to make the dealership fix it correctly. I know that the epas recall covers many parts in the power steering. I feel like it should have been fixed right the first time. And that they are just trying to get out of responsibility. Attached is the response from the home office of Ford.
After my wife stopping to fill up the gas tank, she started the car again to find out that the power steering failure message appeared on the dash. She couldn't move the steering wheel, luckily there was a parking spot right in front of her. She was able to get it towed to a Ford facility, she had to get a rental car and wait 3 days before Ford could look at it. After they looked at it they said the part that broke was part of a recall (15s18) that was fixed a year previously and that it broke again. She was told the part would have to be replaced again but it would cost $1613, not covered under the recall. After she told me this I contacted Ford customer service, they said they would look into it. A couple of days later they said they could not replace it again under the recall. I had to fork over $1613 to repair the recalled part. Seriously this is a safety issue, the recalled part didn't do what it was supposed to do. If my wife was driving during the steering lockup instead of at a gas station serious problems could have occurred, like a major accident. I'm not the only one who has had this problem, I've read about more people having the same issue about the recalled part. Nhtsa needs to force Ford to have another recall on 15s18, before a serious accident or fatality happens.
While driving today, the power steering stopped providing support. Advancetrac and power steering failure now display in the message center. I almost hit a pedestrian as the ps failed as I was making a lh turn. When the assit failed, the car straightened out and I was headed right for a person standing on the curb.
Power steering failure while driving my vehicle. Ford has diagnosed the issue, and replacing of steering gear is required due to power steering failure. Diagnostics code u3000. In my opinion, this vehicle should be covered under recall #15s18. My vehicle was manufactured 6 days outside the time window for recall #15s18. However, it was manufactured in the same facility, only 6 days outside the time window for recall. I have the same issue as described in recall #15s18, and Ford diagnostics confirmed this. I'd like to know the steps to take in order to have Ford honor this recall. Thank you.
Power steering failed and the car left the highway and both front tires blew out and damage to the wheel and undercarraige was apparent.
Power steering failure! epas system on 10/27/2017. My daughter was driving car, she stopped for gas, she started car and power steering failed. I see there is a recall on the power steering system but guess what my VIN number is not part of the recall! sounds fishy to me why do I have a epas system failure and my car is not part of recall? I have a case number at Ford #13421730. I have the car at the Ford dealership in buda texas truck city Ford. They are going to charge me $115. 00 to analyse the car with their computer. I just don't want to pay for a new epas steering system if the cause of the failure is a defective epas system!!!.
There currently is a recall on 2011-2012 Ford Fusions power steering recall #15s18, that began in July 2015. I have a 2012 Ford Fusion I bought in September 2015, that apparently is not covered under this recall. But driving home from work the other day, on a highway my power steering suddenly failed as I was driving 55mph, almost causing a major accident with many vehicles. I feel this was a major safety concern, my vehicle does not have many miles on it, and it has passed inspection every year. I think this recall should be extended before someone else's power steering fails and are not as lucky as I was that other drivers were able to brake in time. I've read on this website as well as many others that this recall needs to extended.
The electronic power steering motor failed. There is a dash alert that the power steering needs service now, also an alert for the autotrak. There is a Ford recall for this part on the same model and year car, but for what ever reason my car's VIN was not included in the recall. I have read numerous other complaints online for the same thing. Why was the recall limited to certain VIN #"s and not every vehicle that has this part on it. The dealer repair is approx. $1700. Please help.
I am a lieutenant on the saint john fire department in saint john, indiana. My daughter drives the 2012 Ford Fusion se. She was on a trip in texas when this steering failure accured. She was lucky enough to be able to steer it into a safe parking area when this happened. She was 100 miles from home when she called me to tell me of this problem. I researched this issue on-line and that is when I discovered the electronic power steering failure recall # 15s18. Evidently, this has effected over 500,000 vehicles. Being in the fire business I am thankful that nothing happened to my daughter while she was driving this vehicle. This could have been a very serious accident or worse !! I advised her to drive the vehicle back home and to the nearest Ford dealership instead of getting it towed from over 100 miles away if she thought she could drive it slow and safely. She was indeed able to drive it back home and parked it at the nearest Ford dealership closest to her home. The vehicle is there right now as I am typing this complaint. I do not have a cost estimate for this repair as of yet. I want Ford to take full and complete responsiblity for this safety recall # 15s18 and pay for all expenses to repair this vehicle. If this would have been a worst case scenario ( if you know what I mean ) then we would be talking about a lawsuit instead of a repair and costing Ford millions of dollars to say the least !!.
After power steering failed, car was repaired under a recall notice at local Ford dealership. The steering rack was replaced. 3 hours after picking up the car, when leaving work, the power steering failed again while in motion on a city street going under 40 mph decelerating coming to a red light. Received warning "service power steering now" and "service advanctrac. " these are the same warnings received prior to repair. The car went immediately and grossly out of alignment. Above 55 mph, the car shakes severely. Ford dealership says the repair needed falls under the TSB 11-11-3 related to high friction in the control arms; however, the TSB states that this problem only causes the stability/traction instrument cluster to illuminate. The dealership says everything under my car looks to be in good condition and that this has to be the problem, stating that the high friction is causing the power steering pump to lock up which is then failing the power steering all together. This is a safety concern and should be included in the recall on the power steering module. The vehicle has 145,000 miles. It has been driven for 6 years without issue.
As I was driving down the road, my warning sensors beeped along with the words flashing that said 'power steering failure. ' thankfully I was not on a busy highway and there was a gas station close by. I immediately pulled into the nearest gas station yet the steering wheel would hardly turn. I bought some power steering fluid and put that in the car yet it still would not turn properly. I had the car towed to my local Ford dealership the next am. After Ford looked at the car, they called me to tell me that it needed a power steering gear box replaced and would cost $1,675. 00. After talking to them and obtaining a second quote from a different repair shop, I was then informed that there was a recall that involved the power steering assist. I then called Ford manufacturer toll free and they informed me that yes there was a recall yet because I did not take my car in to have it checked in 2015, that Ford would not cover the cost of this repair. I informed the man that I was not told of any recall so how would I have known to take it to the shop? furthermore, I have taken my car to this dealership after the recall was published (for a different issue) and they did not say anything to me at that time about there being an open recall. I feel that Ford should have said something at the time I was there for a different issue if there was an open recall on my vehicle. Now I am being charged $1675 for a repair that Ford has fixed for other consumers for free of charge. This will be my last Ford car as the customer service was extremely unfair. I feel that I should be reimbursed for the charges that I am spending to repair my car.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While starting the vehicle, the instrument panel warning message displayed "power steering assist failed" and "service advance trac". Power steering failed *while driving* vehicle on a city street in high traffic area. According to Ford service, this was partially due to the recalled sensor for power steering (action 15n01). However, there was also physical steering gear binding. There are numerous similar complaints with similar remedy (about $2,000 to replace entirely). The physical issue has not been included in the Ford recall (fsa title: epas steering efforts), but is happening with sufficient frequency to other vehicles to conclude that this poses a credible safety risk.
Vehicle was stationary and the electronic power steering failed.
I can't steer my car. Message saying "power steering assist fail" appears on the dash extremely hard to turn my car .
