2012 Fusion with 62,000 miles. When stationary, it makes a sound when you turn the steering wheel just slightly either way. Mechanic says the electric rack and pinion is the problem and it sounds like this is a common issue. I don't think I should be having this issue at only 62,000 miles. This is a very expensive fix. Sounds to me like there should be a recall on this.
I was driving at night time around 35 mph and the power steering alert light came on. Following that another light came on for advanced track warning. Either way my car was not included in the power steering recall for my car same year, make ,and model. I was informed this by Ford. Prior to this my car was driving fine and this happened all of a sudden. Now the car is very hard to turn, fine to steer, and very hard to park. I do not plan on fixing and plan to move on from Ford because of this issue. After researching about this same issue I also discovered this has been a regular occurrence for this same year, make, and model car. Power steering assist loss while driving. I was in drive at stop sign in the city and when I went to take off at about 25mph, the power steering light indicator came on and flashed service power steering now, and in that moment the steering of the wheel became extremely hard to control.

Sept 23. On a street while driving the power steering service light came on. The service instrak. Light came on. The steering became very very hard to turn. Parked and found no fluid because this car has electronic steering. Sept 24. It was taken to the Ford dealer to get this checked. I found the NHTSA recall 15v340000 and wanted Ford to honor this recall. I put in a case with Ford which they denied 4 days later. Meanwhile my car was in the dealer waiting for approval. I had to get a rental car. The dealer advocated for me but was not successful with Ford motor company. I had to pay for the repair paid the dealer 1200. 00 sept 29th 6 days later. . . . Then 1 week later oct 6, the same thing happened steering froze up on a street and I had the car towed to my dealer. . They then gave me a loaner. . The car was cleared of codes and I picked it up oct 9. I dont feel confident this issue is resolved and feel Ford motor company needs to honor the recall Ford recall 15s18. Nhtsa recall 15v340000. Which through research shows has been out for a while, so why was this not listed for my car before!?.

Read that a recall was issued for this problem for Fusions made at mexico plant but my vehicle was either made just before or just after recall dates. Recall should be expanded to include all Fusions with this same problem. Each time warning message came on, it wasn't until car was turned off and restarted that power steering went out.
