Stopped at store and placed the vehicle in park. After taking foot off break vehicle rolled forward. Shifter handle was in the park position but the dash indicator showed the vehicle was in neutral. Applied the emergency break to prevent vehicle from rolling further. Attempted to shift through gear selector and back to park but the shifter handle would not move out the park position. The following recall (18s20) has been issued but according to Ford it does not apply to my vehicle. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in park, with no warning message or audible chime. Based on the number of complaints on this sight the recall affects most if not all Ford Fusions. Paid for repairs, but Ford will not reimburse cost. By the way parts totaled $7. 64 small price for Ford to pay to protect its customers and the public.

The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in park, with no warning message or audible chime. Recall 18s20 did not apply to my vehicle but my vehicle has the same problem.
Safety recall # 18s20 shift cable bushing was completed by dealer 03/05/2020 during a visit for new tires. There were no symptoms of gear issue at that time. On 7/30/2021 the shift cable bushing (installed per recall) failed (less than 15 mths later). After parking car in a parking garage, put the car in "p" park, the car was turned off, key removed, exited vehicle. The car rolled forward striking the parking garage wall in front of parking spot. Even though the dash & shift indicated the car was in park - it was not. No warning on dash. Called aaa that discovered the shift cable bushing was missing causing the shift cable to be dislodged. Recall #18s20 was supposed to correct this issue. It did not. The front of my vehicle damaged. Ford redid the recall following day but the car needs auto body work. No response from Ford corporate, which is in manila philippines.

My vehicle has suffered the same transmission linkage bushing problem as other Ford Fusions that have been recalled to replace the bushing. When I went to the Ford dealership in quincy, MA, they informed me that my 2016 Ford Fusion is not on a recall for the defective bushing since it wasn't manufactured in one of the 2 plants listed for the defective bushing recall. This needs to be addressed so that all Ford Fusions no matter where they are assembled are included in the recall. I had a private mechanic charge me to re-attached the linkage to the transmission, only to have the bushing pop off again a day later. Since then, I have re-attached the linkage a dozen times. I finally went to the Ford dealer and bought the new improved bushing and new cover cap.
Shifter cable came off at transmission linkage. (cable bushing broke). Was parking and when shifted into park gear shift felt like it moved freely. Turned off car took foot off brake and car rolled. Applied brake and tried to start car. Car would not start. Gear shift was in park position and would not move. Dash indicator showed car was in drive. Applied parking brake . After asking mechanic about issue I looked at shifter cable at linkage and it was detached. Bushing was gone.

Got in the parked vehicle and the display on the dash said the vehicle was in neutral but shifter was in park and would not move. The transmission linkage bushing had failed and the cable was no longer connected to transmission. This is a known recall issue for this model. Dealership advised the recall does not apply to my VIN and I am responsible for repairs.
Recall 19s16 (transmission linkage failure) has affected my car and made it unsafe and unreliable. The vehicle will not go into park or shift gears. Bartow Ford states that they can not fix the issue in an appropriate amount of time. I have to wait 7 days until they will repair the issue.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was parked on an incline, it rolled backwards. The contact used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to hawk Ford of oak lawn (708-599-6000, located at 6100 w 95th st, oak lawn, IL 60453) where it was diagnosed that the transmission linkage chain fractured. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure worsened. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and blinked. Also the pull over and stop the engine warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. The VIN was unknown.
My transmission cable came off due to plastic bushing, that attaches cable end to transmission shifter arm in engine compartment. My shifter inside car was in park but transmission was in reverse and rolled away. Could not start it until I moved transmission lever to park position. Cheap plastic bushing. . . Needs upgraded.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was stationary, the transmission malfunctioned. The contact stated that the shifter was in the park position; however, the transmission operated in reverse. The contact engaged the emergency brake to avoid crashing into a building. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who re-attached the transmission linkage and was able to restart the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle; however, the contact cited NHTSA campaign number: 18v471000 (power train) as a possible cause of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving car into a parking stall. Stopped, put car in p, turned off engine and release the foot brake. . . And the car started rolling forward. Applying the foot brake stopped the rolling, however, when I tried to start the car to back it up, the error message read (something like) "transmission not in park, cannot start car". The shifter was clearly in park, so I jiggled it without any success. The car would not start or come out of p (on the shifter). When the emergency roadside assistance from geico got to the car, it was determined that the transmission linkage had failed. They were able to zip tie the connection, so I could take it to a repair shop (where it is right now). It appears that this linkage piece is definitely a "weak link" in a critical system. No accident, but very much a serious problem. The car has about 41,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that a plastic piece over the button on the gear shift broke inside the shifter. The broken piece caused the vehicle not to acknowledge that the vehicle was is in park and caused the key to become stuck in the ignition. The dealer stated that the entire gear shift needed to be replaced. The contact was concerned about numerous complaints regarding the gear shift and the key for his year, make and model vehicle. The contact stated that this was a safety concern since it may be difficult to detect that the broken pieces were damaging the gear shift. The failure mileage was 40,000. Updated 11/05/10.

I drive 2006 Ford Fusion that has about 74k and have not had any problems with until yesterday. My gear shift was stuck and would not go into park and after I had to force it to go it to park I could not leave my keys from the ignition. Now my car can not be locked and it can be knocked out of gear by just a push of a hand. I am afraid to park my call, afraid that it might roll and hurt someone. I contacted Ford and they said that I would have to bring it in and that it could cost up to $400. 00. I have google this issue and found that over 50 Fusion owners have had the same problem. I do not have the money to get this fixed but I can't even go into a store without worrying that my car is going to roll away or someone might steal it.
