Vehicle Shudder Problems of Ford Fusion - part 1

My vehicle would not shift into drive (Ford Fusion 2016 2l 5speed automatic). It shuddered and crawled forward but the transmission would not engage. I braked to a stop put it park and the car was still shuddering. I turned ignition off and attempted to restart engine and engage from park to drive. It did not shift to drive but shuddered. I had to repeat this process 4-5 times and then it finally moved from park to drive and drove somewhat normal 1 day prior the car was jerky as it engaged. This jerky behavior of the transmission at low speeds I was experiencing yesterday returned . The car became driveable but now a I am very supsect and I cannot find a recall for this issue that matches my VIN number. Eventhough many Ford Fusions made during the same year as mine have experienced this issue.

Prior to recall notice; on 12-20-19 husband noticed coolant l level down at approximately 7,000 miles. Went to local Ford dealer to purchase coolant. While there dealer asked several questions concerning specifics; like, is coolant leaking from your engine and is it visible on the ground; husband said no. Retuned home with coolant and filled the reservoir. January 18th, 2020, receive recall notice from Ford advising coolant may be intruding into the cylinders; advising to contact local dealer for service. January 21st, car into service to reprogram power train /cleared all codes. January 22st, 2020 took an 81 mile trip to lake and back; hours later checked the coolant and it was down again 5/8 's inch from max. January 23rd called the scheduled another appt for January 29th. January 29th 2020, mcspadden Ford had vehicle for 4. 5 hours to continue investigation into excessive coolant use. Upon pick up of vehicle, service manager advised they put car up on lift to look for leaks, negative. Hooked up computer and ran car for 20 minutes looking for anything unusual, no problems found. Remove valve covers, inspected block, pistons & cylinders. In process boke a spark plug that was replaced at no charge. Service manager advised they did not find anything to fix; we should just drive it like normal. Driving home at 1. 3 miles (4 min) car sputters. Another . 3 miles (1 min) car sputters, bucks, steering vibrates, car shakes. Another . 6 miles (1 min) , car sputters & bucks, steering vibrates, care shakes, rpm gauge bouncing, check engine lite comes on. Another . 5 miles (1 min) I pull off the highway into residential neighborhood and call mcspadden service who advise to immediately return the car to them if I am able. Car left again at the shop at 1-29-2020 5:45.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while in park and placing the vehicle into drive, the vehicle would not accelerate despite depressing the accelerator. The contact then placed the vehicle into park as the vehicle started to make abnormal noise as well as vibrate while the vehicle was stationery. The contact stated that no warning light had illuminated while experiencing the failure. The contact spoke with antelope valley Ford 1155 auto mall dr, lancaster, CA 93534 where she was informed that she would be better off going to an independent mechanic to have the vehicle repaired. She then spoke with jim burke Ford 2001 oak st, bakersfield, CA 93301 who informed her that there were no recalls on her vehicle and that she would have to pay out of pocket for the repair. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where it was discovered that the internal portion of the transmission had malfunctioned. The contact was given an estimate of $4,800. 00 for the repaired. The manufacturer informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle and referred her to NHTSA. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Jo.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would shake and vibrate and the rpm's would increase when the transmission switched from 2nd and 3rd gears. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer sheehy Ford(901 north fredrick Ave, gaithersburg) the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. 6 speed automatic transmission failed with 60849 miles on the vehicle. Transmission was put in reverse and whole vehicle started shaking. Vehicle drove in drive position. I drove to safe place and had vehicle towed to a Ford dealer. Dealer found metal shavings and black transmission fluid in transmission. Replaced planetary ring gears and bearing assembly-thrust .

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle a transmission warning light would remained illuminated and the vehicle began to shake and vibrate before the speed would reduced and several warnings had displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer town and country Ford(6015 preston hwy, louisville ky. ) the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. Jft.

When shifting from park to 1st gear has a hesitation and shakes the whole car while this is a big concern I took it to 3 different Ford dealers and they told me that there was no fix or it was normal or the problem could not be duplicated I have now been stuck with this vehicle that is now out of warranty and nothing I can do with it cause Ford won't fix this problem.

We have a 2015 Ford Fusion se. We were the 2nd owner and purchased from a dealership. While driving the car it started sounding like fluid in the dashboard and the car started shaking. Then it started blowing out tons of white smoke out the tail pipe, then the check engine light came on. We pulled over, parked car. Let sit and cool down. There was oil, transmission fluid, and coolant in the car. We have done all oil changes and maintenance regularly. We had the car towed to the dealership. After several days they came back stating it is a manufacturer defect and that basically the car sucked in coolant through the engine and was burning (reason for white smoke). It ruined the engine. The manufacturer warranty was over at 60k miles. . . . . . . . We have 65k and Ford is refusing to cover the issue even though this is a defect that on their end. Also the intake manifold was replaced at 46k miles. How can Ford state that they are not responsible? we paid $16k for a car we have had barely over a year and now a pile of scrap metal.

While driving Fusion service down highway Sunday(12-16-18) service power steering now light came on & couldn't turn steering wheel without complications & had to get home to park car before I hit something due to steering wheel too hard to steer, car shaking, and couldn't hardly keep in lane. The service advance light also came on & both remain on & little to no control left to steer the car so car remains parked. Ford knows there are issues with this part and extremely costly repairs and part is a necessity to safely operate the car. This part should be recalled and repaired at the cost of Ford motor not their customers who seek a safe car to transport themselves and their families in.

When driving my check engine light randomly turns on, on the freeway, street, turning, etc. And then it says check manual. The car starts shaking and you can't accelerate. In order to get where I need to be I have to pull over constantly and restart the car. I got it checked at auto zone and it said it was the throttle body actuator stuck in the open position. Oh and becomes more difficult to steer the vehicle when the error pops up.

Engine loses engine power when driving. Pressing the accelerator pedal does nothing. Must coast or brake until the car stops. Power steering, braking, and climate control systems remain functional; radio remains on; turn signals did not work. �trans not in park� message appears on the display. Event has occurred three times when driving at highway speeds. Cruise control was on and set during at least two times out of the three events. Car may be restarted after coming to a stop, shifting into park and turning key to off. Appears to �reset� to work correctly until the next unexpected event occurs. Check engine light does not come on. Chime occurs after the loss of engine power. The car does not shake during or before event. Have not experienced any harsh or delayed shifting when starting from stop or after slowing and trying to accelerate. Three identical instances have occurred since driving this car. In one of the three instances, the key was bumped with a knee. Present milage is about 48000. Car was obtained in 12/2016. Local Ford dealer states that there are no recalls or services outstanding for this vehicle; did not know of any reported problems like this. On may 15, 2018 wes myers at bob sight Ford in lee's summit, missouri checked two other Fusions and noted that this same problem will occur if the key is barely rotated back - not so much as to think it should turn off the engine. As such, he did not find anything �wrong� since other vehicles exhibit the same problem; replacing the ignition switch with another that has the same problem would not provide a fix. Also stated that unless the car was still under the bumper to bumper warranty, that Ford would not take any action. The vehicle leasing company (enterprise) has not issued any notices stating this is a known issue with the vehicle. Nhtsa 9/19/2016, blacklick, OH, is similar issue.

Car stopped accelerating in the middle of the highway, yellow wrench light came on and airbag light came on. The car started shaking and came to a complete stop. I barely made it to safety on the highway full of cars. I pulled over and turned it off because it wouldn't drive. I turned it back on and it drove fine. I have researched this and realized this has been happening to thousands of people who own 2016 Fusions and yet there is no recall. I am terrified of driving it. It seems to be the throttle body that needs complete replacement but at expense of the owner despite thousands of cases. How can this be? please advise.

From the day I first drove my car off the lot it was a 2013 Ford Fusion s it's gray. I started the engine and then sat in the driver's seat before I put it in drive I hear a loud thumping noise generating from the back end of my car. And it's still doing it 4 months later non-stop and I cannot figure out what's going on also there is a rusted hole in my muffler. Also often times when I am driving when accelerating the transmission has a huge lag in it and sometimes it sticks without shifting to the proper gear to accelerate, sometimes I have to actually manually shift the gears. And it gets very rough when it slips and slides and makes a big drop which also shakes the entire vehicle and it also impairs the driving performance. And another thing is the seat belt, the rear middle seat of my vehicle when installing a child safety seat the middle seat belt got all jammed up and would not work at all. I had to replace it with an aftermarket seat belt because Ford didn't want to fix it for free and wanted to charge me upwards of $400 just for the seat belt that wasn't my fault that I got damaged I just installed the child seat like the local police showed me to and then once I got it out the seat belt it's not working. They say it's not a part of the recall which I already have 4 recalls on my vehicle that is not yet fixed.

I have noticed a vibration in my car at about 55-65 mph, upon further investigation I found out it is the power transfer unit for my awd. I am a mechanic and called Ford for them to verify that the fluid is non servicable and is good for a life time. This is crazy because a new one is $900 or more not including labor, and because they are not servicable every about 80,000 - 100,000 miles you will have to replace it. Who has $2,000 to spend every time this breaks to fix it. This is outrageous and Ford should be doing something about this.

Tl- the contact owned a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact states while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle began to shake and the contact stopped the vehicle. As the she began to drive again, the vehicle began to stall and was hit by another vehicle. The air bags deployed upon impact and the vehicle was destroyed. The contact had minor injuries, however, the other driver claimed to be injured but her injuries were not disclosed. A police report was filed, there was no diagnose given for the vehicle failure. The failure mileage was 112,000. Jo.

While driving today, I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. The vehicle began to vibrate abnormally, and then the power went out. I began to smell smoke, and I almost hit the vehicle in front of me because I couldn't control my car! once I finally came to a stop, I was able to restart it and pull over to a safer area-- but the smoke remained. I believe the throttle body is malfunctioning, which is unacceptable on an almost-new car.

I was driving home the car started shaking and idling very rough. Check engine light came on and the car died on me right in the middle of traffic. I was stuck on a city street during rush hour traffic. Got it to a dealer coil pack had exploded frying the power train control module. Research shows this is an issue on Fusions 2006-2009. But no resolutions are offered by Ford.

While driving 70 mph on the highway the car suddenly shuddered. The yellow wrench light came on and the gas pedal would not work. Forced to coast to the shoulder. Shut car off waited 30 seconds and tried to restart. Car started and wrench light went out. Was able to drive. Has happened repeatedly. I called Ford and there is a customer satisfaction program 13n03. To address this but said they could only correct if the computer saved a code. Since this problem has thus far failed to trip my check engine light, it is not storing a code. I argued that it was unsafe for me to drive the care like this. They stated that Ford does not recommend I drive the car and stated my only options are to take to dealership for diagnosis where the only hope is that they can drive the car and maybe the intermittent problem will luckily happen. This is unacceptable. They know the issue exists and is unsafe. I have read multiple accounts of this on the internet. How many more are required to trigger a recall?.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle made a grinding noise. The vehicle was taken to the towne Ford of redwood city dealer, located 1601 el camino real, redwood city, CA 94063, where the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Also, the contact received NHTSA campaign number: 20v177000 (latches/locks/linkages) and the same dealer ordered the parts and scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced a TSB number: 17-0030. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 18,213. Fe.

While driving down the highway in congested traffic the vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. The engine and car started shaking and the engine idled back and forth between 1000 and 2500 rpm's. A message appeared on the information screen "see manual". The car had no acceleration at all and I had to coast through several lanes of traffic to the shoulder. All electrical remained working. Just no engine power at all. I shut the vehicle off and started it back up, it struggled to start at first. While driving to the Ford dealership for repairs the same problem occurred twice more. During normal driving. No intense acceleration. Cruising traffic at around 65 mph. It was a very dangerous situation to loose all accelerator power in the middle oft of a 5 lane highway. I had several close calls trying to drift across lanes of traffic as I did not want to use the break and come to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. I was very afraid there would be a crash. Several of my coworkers that have the same vehicle have had very similar issues with their vehicles. Driving and sudden power loss. Luckily no injuries or crashes to date. Apparently there is a recall for the throttle body but our fleet company element never received a recall notice, nor passed that onto us.

Service engine light remained on along with throttle wrench light. . . Car shaking little power. . . . Pulled over ,restart car lights still on , slow drive and shaky ride home. .

This first happened to me on June 1, 2016. My 2010 Ford Fusion loses power once in a while when driving. A wrench light appears on the dash board and the car starts to slow down, accelerator does not work and sometimes the car starts to shake. You will have to pull over, turn the car off for a few minutes and then turn it off in order to drive it until the light comes back on again. It is very dangerous to drive it in the highway and specially when speed limit its 50 and trucks or other cars are coming at a high speed behind you because you do not know when this is going to happen to you again. I have this problem for a few weeks. I took my car for a recall for something else on June 24, 2016 and I mentioned to them about this issue and they said everything was fine. But I'm sure it will not be fine if I get into a car accident after complaining about this issue. The dealer will ask if the light its on in order for them to check it. But I have mention that the light goes on and as soon as you lose power and turn the car off and on it disappears.

The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,905.

Pulled from a red light and car started shaking vigorously. Pulled over safely into a parking light and a wrench lit up on the dash board. Took it to a near by auto parts store, clerk scanned it and said it was a throttle body malfunction.

Going 70 mph on I-75 and the car engine suddenly sputters and drops to idle at 1000 rpm. Gas pedal did not work and it was like the car went into neutral on its own. After having to try to get to the shoulder without getting hit from behind, I had to put car into park and restart the ignition. The car vibrated and jerked right before coming to a complete stop. Restarting the car corrected the issue, at least for the time being. Pretty scary.

Driving on highway and the transmission went out of gear, coasted to edge of highway, had power to engine/car though . Second time happen I was stopped dropping off wife and when I started to go, the car started to shake and sputter and the transmission went out of gear again. Had to coast to empty area. Both times, I shut of engine waited 30 seconds/minute and restarted and continued on without problem.

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion se. Six weeks prior to November 13, 2013, the vehicle would sporadically shake or sometimes jerk! on the evening of November 13th, I was driving a short distance from home in the dark. I came to complete stop at a very busy intersection and the vehicle began to shake violently three times and then the engine stalled! I was stuck at a right turn lane with no place to pull over or to let any cars go by! in fact many drivers behind me were very impatient honking their horns and squeezing by around the corner! as I was panicking I noticed the battery and oil light on and did not noticed any other idiot lights on. I pressed on the accelerator and could not move, I noticed I could put the car in gear and luckily I was able to start the vehicle! I was able drive around the corner into the gas station, and all of a sudden the vehicle's transmission jerked and made a loud "clunk" noise while accelerating lightly, the vehicle "surged" thru the gas station, finding myself at a fast speed I had to slam on the brakes! that evening I went onto the internet and saw hundreds of complaints on the "electronic throttle body!" all of these customers had the same experience or very similar to mine! I was very scared to drive the car twenty miles to a local dealership. Fortunately the vehicle made it there without stalling. The technicians ran a test on the "electronic throttle body"and to my surprise the vehicle passed with flying colors. Also one of the technicians took the car home to see if it would happen again so the extended warranty would cover this expense with a rental car! for the safety of myself and others the "electronic throttle body" was replaced at my expense of $430. 00. I knew the problem would not disappear or go away or improve and nobody's life is worth a few hundred dollars!.

The Fusion will stall at highway speed. When driving the "wrench" light will come on and the gas pedal becomes useless and it is left to coast down the road. The only thing you can do is pull over, if possible and put it in park and shut it off. Then the car shakes like crazy like the engine will explode if you don't shut if off fast enough. There entire time the tachometer is bouncing up and down and gas pedal is useless. Putting it in park does not fix the problem. You have to shut down the car. Once shut off, you can wait a few seconds and restart the car. This will usually start decent but sometimes will be hard to start. Then it will drive normal. This has happened multiple times and 2 x today while on the interstate. There is no chugging or warning, it will just stop letting you use the gas pedal and starts shaking violently. I found out it is a problem with the throttle body. This is expensive to fix and dangerous if you don't as you can not always simply pull to the side and restart your car. Not safe for me or my pregnant wife. Fix the problem Ford.

My wife was driving 65 mph on a very busy los angeles area freeway around 4:45 in the afternoon when her vehicle came to a grinding halt. The car went from 65 mph to a complete stop in about 30 yards! she said all she heard was a loud grinding sound and the screeching of the tires. Luckily, the six vehicles behind her were able to stop, avoiding a chain reaction accident. The car has been at the dealership since November 4, 2013 when the incident happened. When I spoke to the technician, he mentioned that the transmission "disintegrated" internally and the only two options we had were to rebuild the transmission part by part, or order a whole new transmission. The vehicle is not even three years old! this was not the first time this happened. On October 2, 2013, she was about to enter the same busy freeway and the vehicle came to a stand-still at the intersection. None of the gears worked. After turning the vehicle on-and-off a few times and shifting the gear stick back-and-forth, the vehicle once again was able to move. Can you please look into this issue as I am greatly concerned for the safety of my family now that this incident put my wife's life in danger? god forbid this happen again in front of a fully loaded semi or other high profile vehicle that would not be able to stop in time. Accelerating from a complete stop at a stop light and the car started to shake violently and the wrench light came on, no acceleration occurred. Turned the car off and on again and everything was fine except for the occasional jerky acceleration now. Identified as probably the throttle body.

I was merging onto the highway and when I hit approximately 65 mph, I felt the lose momentum and by the time I looked down, I was around 55-60 mph. I then tried to give it gas while watching my rpm's and saw that it was erratically jumping around between the 1000 and 1500 marks. So I pull over to the should and off the road and as I start coming to a stop, my car beings to shake violently. So I throw it in park and immediately turned off the car. After about 10 minutes on the phone with the closest Ford dealer I know, I turn on the car and it's running like nothing ever happened. However, it did take a little long to start, like as if the battery was on the verge of dying. I managed to get my car to the Ford dealership where I had them run a diagnostics test on it and sure enough, they didn't find a code. They even had me come out and watch the test be done, and everything was showing a passing mark.

While driving approximately 40mph on a six lane divided road, the wrench caution light appeared (indicating transmission/throttle malfunction). The engine rpm immediately dropped and began fluctuating around 1,000 and the vehicle began to shake violently. There was absolutely no response to accelerator inputs. The driver was able to maneuver the vehicle clear of traffic. The maximum speed that could be attained at the fluctuating rpm was 14 mph. It is a miracle the vehicle was not in rear end collision as the posted speed limit was 45mph. Car was allowed to idle at the reduced rpm while driver inspected the engine and pressed the accelerator. The car was turned off and back on (with a little bit of trouble turning over). The incident occured once on 26aug2013, four times on 13sep2013, and once on 14sep2013. The car has not been driven since the last occurence. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who recommeded taking it to a Ford dealership due to only having 1,400 miles left on the powertrain warranty. The service department was able to pull p2111 code. After receiving an exorbitant quote for the repair ($230 for part, $280 for labor) with no estimated delivery date for the backordered part, the repair was denied to allow for further research. The dealer has absolutely no qualms releasing the car with a known malfunction, presenting a hazard to the driver and others on the road. A car that immediately decellerates should be considered as dangerous as an uncommanded acceleration. To prevent serious injury/death, Ford should issue and immediate recall for the failing throttle body.

The cars throttle body light comes on shuts down car. I was getting on the express way going about 60 miles per hour when the car begins to shake and my car shuts down and luckly I was able to control the car to the shoulder.

We were going down the interstate and my car started shaking and died out. This continued 6 more times before we found a valvoline and had them test it on their computer. It gave the code p2111 tac system open. Now the code is gone and the dealer can not fix it unless it displays this code so we have to continue to drive it until the error message shows up again.

Driving in far left lane at highway speed. The car had been on for about 10 minutes after sitting in parking lot all day. It was 96 degrees. Car started to vibrate and slow down. I noticed that the tool light was on. Obviously I had entered into limp mode and found a way to cross four lanes of rush hour traffic to make it to the emergency lane. Once stopped engine loped erratically and would not accelerate. Engine was non-responsive to pedal changes. Put car in park and shut the engine off. I waited 30 seconds and started the car again and drove home (26 miles) without further incident. It should be noted that I have experienced surging in the engine this past week. Symptoms point to the throttle body; but this is speculation as I have not had the car diagnosed by a professional. I am aware that there is a current investigation into this matter. This event happened at highway speeds and could have been disastrous. Driving can be inherently dangerous and parts do break; but, the fact that this has been a known issue for quite some time warrants an additional report.
