This morning while I was pulling out my driveway everything was fine. I began to pick up speed and my check engine light came up, wrench light, then it just downshift hard stopped. Car came to a halt and it wouldn't even shift out of drive. Once I got the car out of the road, I looked at the transmission control cable, the rubber bushing was gone. I can pick the entire cable up and do it whatever I want with it. I've looked around and I am seeing many of other complaints. The only scary thing is my daughter was with me this morning when it happened, but thankfully our road isn't busily traveled on.

At random times when the car is departing on city streets or highway, the car would stop shifting out of second gear. I would manually shift it to neutral then back to drive and it would drive normal through the first gear then shift to second gear and stay in second gear until I stop and repeat the process, first gear then second gear then stuck and repeat. No one has been able to find out what's wrong with my car's drivetrain system. Multiple certified mechanics have informed me to contact Ford for recalls on this car's powertrain system however Ford says they have no recalls on this model. This seems like a manufacturing defect and is a very dangerous problem since it happens unexpectedly at random time.

Over the past 6 months my Ford Fusion's transmission has slowly begun to lose its shifting abilities. It first started with sluggish and jerky movement when put into drive and the gas pedal was pressed. Then it started slipping and jerking while driving down the road. There was no specific speed that it needed to be going. It increased to an extremely high rev before making a loud bang and hard shift into gear. As of yesterday, while driving down the highway, it slipped out of gear as I was slowing to a stop then wouldn't reengage 2nd or 3rd gear. I limped it down the road to the nearest exit into a parking lot where I stopped in a parking spot. I turned the vehicle off and let it sit for a while before turning it back on. When I attempted to back out, reverse would not engage. I pushed it out of the spot and was able to get it into drive, then a quarter mile down the road all drive gears went out. I was able to coast it into another parking lot where I shut it off and let it sit for about 15 min to cool and tried again. Nothing. I lost all gears in the car. I had to have it towed to my house, since taking it to a mechanic would just lead to them informing me of the same thing that all other complaints and forums have stated online about this issue. A transmission change for a minimum of $2500 and there's no recall on a very well documented and serious issue regarding Ford transmissions.

On Tuesday (July 2nd) morning I backed my car out of the garage and into the residential street. I stopped approx. 4-5 feet past my mailbox - enough for my car door to clear - to get my mail. I put the car in park, got out of the car, opened the mailbox and was getting the mail when the car hit me and knocked me down. It was moving in reverse. The residential street is pretty level. I got up and tried to catch it but it picked up speed and then knocked me down again. I did not realize it at the time but I had already broken my right elbow in the first fall. The car continued to accelerate until it ran into and destroyed a neighbor's mailbox and was stopped. My right elbow sustained a second break which required repair with a plate/screws/wires and I was told I will never regain pre-accident usage of my predominant hand and arm. I had several large contusions on my face which are still present a week later. I have a plate-sized black bruise on my inner right thigh. My left leg is heavily bruised with a large wound and the inner and outer sides of my left foot are black with bruising. I have bruising and scrapes and cuts in multiple places. I believe the car slipped out of gear. If I had not put it in park, it would have started rolling immediately as I took my foot off the brake and got out of it. Instead it hit me completely unexpectedly. I spent almost 3 days in the hospital. I am going to have the car inspected and looked at. There is a current Ford recall for this gear issue for cars from the same factory mine came from and the assembly year. My car has not been included in the recall as of yet but I believe this is what happened.
8 different times while driving at various speeds my car has slipped out of gear and I had to try to steer to side of road. Stop. Start car again. Last weeks time, the 8th time, was on hwy 85 in atlanta traffic. I was accelerating around someone that was having a problem and it just wouldn't go anymore. I was so lucky to have a marta bus behind me that slowed. So I could stop. Then start again and take off. Otherwise it would've been a huge accident because someone would've hit me. I've reported this to my Ford dealrship each time. This last time he said Ford focus and fiesta were just recalled for same issues. Please look into the transmission on the Ford Fusion as well. The other times I was on two lane roads. Able to pull to side of road. It's very scary though for your car to just go into neutral and you not be able to go anywhere.

Periodically will delay when shifted into reverse, then will engage hard, causing loud sound, slams into gear. Happened several times from the parked position backing out of a parking space, shifting from park to reverse. Also happened several times when stopping forward motion and shifting into reverse, shifting drive to reverse also has condition while driving that transmission would not shift out of low gear automatically or manually, needed to pull over to the side of road, and shut engine off and restart, transmission shifted correctly after restarting engine owned vehicle from new, delay shifting into reverse condition occurred periodically after about two years of service. The no up shift condition has only occurred once to date on 3/1/19.

Trans. Problem happening for a long time. Since 2015. Trans jumps out of gear, loses power and lurches. Experienced 3 near he ad on colisions when jumping out of gear. I have noticed scores of compaints online about this identical problem. All with vehical in motion.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was in drive, it shifted out of gear without warning. The gear was unable to manually be maneuvered into park. The contact performed an interim adjustment by opening the hood and pushing the lever near the shift cable forward to place the gear in park. Koons Ford (1051 e broad st, falls church, va, 703-241-7250) replaced the bushings connecting the shift cable to the transmission. The vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 18v471000 (power train); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure related to the recall. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was excluded from the recall. The manufacturer suggested the dealer repair the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission is detached from the transmission. The shifter cable bushing has detached from the transmissionand the transmission is stuck in drive, but the shift lever appears to be in park. This is an open recall on some Fusions, but mine isn't included, but is effected. It's undrivable like it is. Cannot be shifted out of gear, and is in drive which is dangerous due to car will roll if safety brake is released. I put the car in park, turned it off and removed the key and my car started rolling.

Transmission has always been problematic. Owned car for 9 years. Hesitates to accelerate, shifts very hard, cannot climb hills. Wrench light came on 7/22/2018 while driving and car will not shift out of 2nd gear. Would not go over 45 mph at 6000 rpm. Needs entirely new transmission. $2800 total cost.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shook violently and lunged forward without warning. The contact mentioned that the transmission would slip out of gear sporadically and, on a separate occasion, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred four times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 11,000.
Vehicle intermittently shifts extremely hard at many different speeds and different gears. Vehicle intermittently produces transmission flare at many different speeds and different gears. Vehicle intermittently hesitates until gears engage. Vehicle intermittently slips out of drive.
This is my second occurrence: I was driving at a level speed of about 45 with the flow of traffic (in-city road, speed limit 45). When I heard my car seem to shift out of gear, and start stalling and slowing down and the wrench icon on the dash was lit up. I was in the left lane of a four-lane street. I got to quickest upcoming shoulder, and turned my vehicle fully off and back on. This stopped my car from stalling and shaking. But I am starting to feel very unsafe in my vehicle because there is no warning when my car will stall out and I do a lot of highway traveling. This was the second time in a 2 week period that this has happened.
While driving on I-85 south approximately 50-60 mph in moderately heavy traffic, between exits 27 and 26, the car sounded like it dropped out of gear while accelerating. I was able to merge to the shoulder of the highway. The car continued decelerating and the "wrench light" appeared. The car would not accelerate at all. When stopped (at the ramp for exit 26), the car rattled and idled very hard and was shaking. The battery light appeared, then the oil lamp appeared and the car shut off completely. I was towed an hour later to keith hawthorne Ford in belmont. On Monday, July 29, 2013, the service manager, stated that the throttle body had failed; when they hooked-up the car to the testing machine, it did not show any codes. They replaced the failed throttle body, I paid for repairs and have the failed throttle body in my possession.
While driving on I-95 south approximately 65-70 mph in moderately heavy traffic, at exit 180, the car sounded like it dropped out of gear while accelerating. I was able to merge to the shoulder of the highway. The car continued coasting and the "wrench light" appeared. The car would not accelerate at all. When stopped, the car rattled and idled very hard and was shaking. The service engine light came on. I turned the car off and I waited a few minutes and cranked the car back and all was fine, wrench light and service engine light was off. This has happened 6 more times since July 8th 2013, yesterday it happened 4 times in the 1 hour, almost got slammed by two 18 wheeler trucks. This really should be a recall due to this type of situation can get people killed.
When I was passing a car on the high way the transmission slipped out of gear. I was in the middle lane and lost all acceleration. Dead in the water. I had to put my hazard lights on and pull over to the side of the road. Turning the card on and off fixed the issue. Since that it has done this multiple times.

Driving on the highway at 65mph when the transmission slip out of gear and the engine started to rev up. Got of to the side of the rode when there was a safe spot to let the traffic behind us go around. I had my wife and two grand children in the car not a safe position to be in. Ford knows about the valve in asin transmission. Can not believe they will not honor this problem, when they know about it. The problem is getting worse. Please help!.
My car has been constantly shifting out of gears when driving. It happens whether I am going 10 mph to 60 mph. The car will slow down, jerk back, than catch up to gear (automatic drive). I brought the issue up tot the dealership after purchase of the used auto ($20k) miles and they indicated that there was nothing wrong. At $35k I was driving down my street going 20 mph when the car jerked rapisly and shut down. I was stuck in the middle of the stree with the car failing to restart. The transmission light (wrench) came on and I was stuck trying to figure out what to do next. I finally got the car to start up again after 3 tries and I was able to get into work but took the back streets instead of the highway. All of this happened after I had the car at the dealership the day before and it passed the 120 point inspection. I actully printed off all 306 complaints on this websitte regarding this issue and told the dealer what to fix as I did not want to get any run around. The dealer took it out on 3/20 and the car did the same thing to the service team and luckily they were able to witness the critical error. They agreed to fix it but are now trying to stick it to me. The car was under 36k original warranty but the car was originally purchased on 3/5/2010 and the incident haoppend on 3/18/2013. The dealer told me I was two weeks pass the warranty so I was out of luck. I fortunately bought the extended warranty and they are now trying to make me pay the $100 deductible which I am fighting.
Pulled up to macdonalds, put in park, took orders from other people in auto. Got out of auto took another order from passangers, left running, went into macdonalds stood in line, when up to counter to order food, some yelled " that car is rolling backwards, it was my sisters 2011 Fusion, it was put in gear before we went into resturant it jumped out of gear and rolled back into the side of a white truck. Took the car to Ford and the person said it is was not possible for that to happen, but it did.
My sister was driving my 2011 Ford Fusion to go out of town , when getting back into town, she pulled into macdonalds, put shift in park. While sitting in car, we were taking food orders from passengers, one in front passenger side of car and one in back passenger side. We, my sister who was driving and I who own the car, got out of autombile , we went into macdonalds stood in line, when we got up to the counter to order, someone yelled " that car is rolling backwards" and the car rolled backwards into the side of a white truck, damanging the passenger side door on the truck, no damage on Ford Fusion. The car was running as to leave the air conditioner on because it was so hot out. I was in the resturant and not even near the Ford Fusion at the time of roll back. I have been driving for over 53 years and know when a car is in gear, this Ford Fusion jumped out of gear somehow, it was in gear. Even where it was parked was on a small incline. When taking the Ford Fusion to Ford dealers, I was told that it could'nt have jumped out of gear, it had to have not been in park. Now remember this car was running with the air on, didn't roll back when we were taking orders for food, and then we stood in line in the resturant befor the car rolled backwards. This was reported as an accident on my sister's insurance, how can this be , how do they know I wasn't going to drive my car the rest of the way home,we were only 1 mile from home. And besides the car didn't even roll back for aproxmontey 6 minutes. This has to be reported as so it doesn't happen to anyone else.
Transmission slipping at downshift at around 35 mph. Dealer changed fluid. Helped for around 3 weeks and started again. Today 7/24/2012 transmission slipped out of gear entering highway rt 78 at rt 100 and almost involved in a crash, had to pull on to shoulder to avoid it. Ford clearly knows of the problems with the aisin transmission and should be held responsible for any repairs. The problem is with valve bore wear in the main control or megatronic. Why should citizens be made to pay for faulty parts used in construction ?.
1 bought a Ford Fusion in Aug. 2011 used w/15,000 miles on it no problems with it until after I reached 32,000 miles the transmission slips and the wheels sound like its going to fall off , it somes seam to jump out of gear while driving and starting and stopping . I took if to a Ford dealer for oil change told service tech about this he said nothing wrong with car never took for test drive. I did some looking on-line there are a lot of people saying same thing. I read about a re-call on transmission called dealer brought car from said they didn't get notice . Sent e-mail to Ford no reply. Can not get answers from no-one . I have young children I don't want to be driving down the road and have wheels fall off or transmission fall out. This seams to be getting worst .
Purchased 2006 Ford Fusion sel 6 cyl, new. And about year ago starting having transmission problems. Upon accelerating between 25-40, the transmission jumps in and out of gear, often making a loud banging noise and taking away all acceleration. In order for it to get back into gear, you have to completely let of the gas and it will eventually go back into gear. This allows for minimal accelerator at best when trying to speed up. This failure occurs randomly everytime I drive the vehicle. If not fixed, the transmission in my car will eventually go bad. Due to no codes showing up on the computer, that on the Ford bulletin it was going to need a new valve body, transmission flush, and reprogramming. This is going to cost roughly $2200. The valve body, from Ford, was $1400. I got into an accident in March of this year due to not being able to accelerate from another vehicle merging into my lane, transmission jumped out gear.
Car slips out of gear and fails to shift out of neutral for acceleration.
I suffered the basic same complaints with the trans slipping out of gear after freeway driving and having it slam back into gear. It usually happens when I let off the throttle and need to re-accelerate. I have been lucky so far I usually can get it to re-engage in gear without causing any problems behind me. One time it locked into a high gear and I almost burned up the clutch because it would not downshift when I got off the freeway. I pulled over to the shoulder to figure out what to do and while I was stopped I turned off the motor. When I turned it back on approx 5 mins later it had reset itself and I was able to drive home fine. This is how my commute is basically every day now, it seems to happen more often in the afternoon commute when the weather is warmer. (on a side note if you get struck somewhere, allow the car sit for 5 mins with key off allowing it to reset and it might allow you to arrive somewhere safe).
2006 Ford Fusion transmission slips out of gear and slams back into gear at highway speeds. Also clunks into each gear as it is downshifting.
Transmission mishap, jumped out of gear while doing highway speeds resulting in near collision. Transmission downshifts extremely hard causing car to jump and have erratic shifting. Ford aware of problem, their recommendation is a new transmission resulting in a $4256. 00 repair bill.
The transmission in my vehicle started slipping at 60,000 miles. It will slip out of gear and slam violently back into gear makink the vehicle hard to control. It does not happen all the time but it has been happening more often. There has been many complaints of this models transmission doing this in other vehicles.
2006 Ford Fusion v6. . . . My wife was driving on the expressway with my two year daughter in the back seat when the transmission slipped out of gear as if it went into neutral going 60mph. She let off the gas peddle and the transmission engaged . Trying to get back up to speed she stepped on the gas peddle and the car jerked violently and caused it to slow down even more. She was able to get it back up to speed by slightly pushing down on the gas peddle. . After reading all the complaints, how is there not a forced recall!!!! this is extremely dangerous! the 2010 Fusion has a recall for unsafe transmission issues, why not the 2006?.
While driving my 2006 Ford Fusion se v6 with 6 speed transmission, the transmission started slipping at 40mph in a snow storm and I almost lost control of my vehicle from the loss in power. It now randomly slips out of gear at all speeds and downshifts hard lurching the car out of the lane.
I have a 2010 for Fusion that was part of the transmission recall ,which has been taken care of. I have been experiencing slow delays of acceleration after pressing the gas pedal. Twice I have experienced where my car won't shift out of gear. The last time I was on the highway and the rpm was stuck at 4 with a speed of 60. The car finally switched gears, but the car then raced forward. Luckily no one was in front of me. I feel that this is a major safety risk for the owners of these cars. I have an appt scheduled on 12/13 with the dealer.
The car started about 2 years ago, slipping out of gear when having to accelerate. It also slams into gear when down shifting. This is very dangerous, my wife was getting on the interstate and it slipped out of gear and she had to coast off of the highway because there was a tractor and trailer quickly approaching. We also cannot go up any big hills or mountains. We have had it at the dealership when it first happened and they changed the transmission fluid and updated the computer. This cost $500. They finally came to the conclusion that it needed a new transmission which would cost $4000. We still owe over $12,000 and do not have the $4000 to replace the transmission.
My 2006 Ford Fusion transmission started slipping at 34,000 miles. Dealer said there was nothing they could do since my car was made in the first part of 2006, no additonal warranties were available. I bought the car under the assumption that there was a warranty still available. Now my transmission is going out, I still owe 11,000 on my car. After talking to alot of Fusion people, this appears to be a very very common problem. It's also very dangerous, the car slips out of gear revs up and then pops back into gear just as you are trying to get into a lane. Very dangerous, I have almost wrecked several times and had to pull over.
I was driving on a highway at 65 miles per hour when all of sudden my car just started slipping out of gear. I have 70000 miles on my car and it started with abouit 63000 miles. I was just recently at a 2 way stop with the non stop being a highway of 64 miles per house in south dakota. I stopped and seen no cars coming and starting going across the intersection and my car wouldnt go into gear. I sat in the middle of the intersection trying to get it to go and finally after about 15 seconds I got it to run and luckily there was no traffic coming or I would had to get out of my car and run to the side because it wouldnt start going. I dont have the kind of money to go into a repair shop and spend 5000 dollars on a new transmission when I know that is what it is. It occurs probably once a day.
06 Ford Fusion transmission slips out of gear around 25-35 mph. This happened on the highway resulting in 4 cars almost hitting us & almost causing 2 other accidents. It has been getting progressively worse for a month now. It's @ the dealership now ,they said there is nothing wrong with it @ 1st,now they say they have duplicated the problem & I need a new transmission $4700. The car has 54k miles on it. I have read numerous other complaints online @repairpal. Com. Something needs to be done, this is a very hazardous problem.
