At 68,000 miles, the transmission began experiencing symptoms of a failed transmission. I took it to the dealer and they confirmed that there was a concern harsh shift on 3rd gear and diagnose direct drum causing cust concern and shudder concern torque converter. This diagnosis caused the vehicle to hard shift everytime I would take off and often time cause a kick on the transmission. Because of this, the rear main seal of the engine also gave out prematurely. While driving on the freeway, the engine began leaking oil suddenly from the rear main seal causing the entire bottom of the engine to get soaked with oil. This also caused the oil to fall in to the brake pads and rotors. While driving on the freeway, I lost braking power and could not stop safely. I had to pull to the shoulder and attempt to stop the vehicle. Fortunatelly, there were no cars on the soulder and was able to stop the vehicle. This is where I discovered the vehicle full of oil in the bottom of the vehicle along with the brake pads and rotors. The vehicle was towed to the house about 130 miles. Once discovered, it was taken to sunrise Ford where they discovered all of the issues. The service tech told me that it is a common problem for those transmissions to fail prematurely and cause other problems. This is a safety issue because after 7 years of the vehicle being on the road with under 100k miles, it is posing a safety hazard not only for the customers but also the public. Please investigate the transmission issue that is leading to other safety issues. This is the 6f35 transmission that is installed on these vehicles. These transmissions are famous for failing prematurely. This was one of those cases. No check engine light comes on to indicate that there is trouble with the transmission. This problem is putting others and oneself at risk because it lead to other failed components. The problem first appeared at 55k miles and around January 2023.

The car stalled a few times wihile on my way home with no warning had to restart the vehicle so as I needed to accelerate or slow down the vehicle would start shudder and jerk as it felt like it was slipping out of gear no warning light was illuminated. I had to have vehicle towed to my house looked up issues it said it may be transmission so then I had the vehicle towed to a independent mechanic business and was informed to take the vehicle to a Ford dealer that there were 2 recalls associated with my vehicle the recalls were through the NHTSA vehicle safety reports. (power train) and (torque converter). However my vehicle was the 1. 5 version and was having the exact same problems as the 2. 1 version being covered through the vehicle recalls. Since my VIN was not included I did not have it repaired. They included both issues in the quote was over 6000 dollars but less if one of the problem. This was in June/2020 and the car had 97 k miles on it.
Transmission needed rebuilt. Torque converter and value body went out.

Update to complaint 11229418 posted 7/4/19 car stayed in shop for a week. Replaced input shaft, fluid pump, filter, valve body, solenoid body, torque converter, and any associated gaskets and hardware car is going back to the shop tomorrow due to it shifting harder than before. Safety park feature no longer works either. Can hear hard shifting when changing from park, revere, and drive. Reverse is the worst and car shakes with each gear selection. Moves hard as if I hit something when placing into park.
Vehicle was parked and when turned on the check engine light came on. While driving around 45 mph , the power train light came on. Took vehicle into dealership and was informed I needed a new torque converter. Waiting to hear back on if they have found the part, as they couldn't the day I took it in. Vehicle only has 24k miles on it. I do not know if the previous recall regarding this part was fixed or not because it was prior to the day I bought the car.
My car is jerking and the check engine light has not come on it has been since July and they can't tell me but it a recall on the 2. 0 liter but not on mine for a 2. 5 torque converter that is the problem and the guy at Ford place said it would be 2700 to fix I would rather run it in a river wow.

4th time: engine misses, violent shaking like torque converter is connected, gas pedal not responsive, dash board lights up with a wrench. Owners manual says go to dealer ASAP. Been to dealer once, they said a transmission reprogramming was necessary. Now it has happened again within 12 days of being "fixed". This is very dangerous when driving at highway speed, or any speed for that matter, and the car dies and shakes and jolts. This has happened at 25 mph and 50 mph. One time in heavy traffic on a hill and I couldn't get up the hill and just had to block traffic. Help! if I can make it, back to the dealer tomorrow.

I purchased a new focus. I drove it for two weeks. The transmission is of a poor design, I frankly refuse to drive it. It nearly crashed through my barn. I was simply backing it in when it decided to lurch hard. I slammed on the brakes. Luckily it did stop. Prior to this incident the car did not operate correctly at all. . Seemingly endless clutch chatter, slippage, unpredictable shifting, its is a horrid car to drive. I was noticing the smell of clutch. I had it towed back to the dealer. I do not want it back. I do not know why Ford motor company would put to market a horrible dangerous erratic transmission into parking spaces is a pure adrenaline rush. You do not know what it might do. They say its a automatic , however it is not . It is a duel clutch transmission's would not drive this car again. Its frankly dangerous. However the salesman called and said" you don't know how to drive this car. Its something you will get used too". I did not buy a new car to get used to it. Its a road hazard. In my opine its a defective product. I'm pretty sure after 32 years of driving I know how to drive. Very unhappy at the blue oval team. Here is what Ford should do. Halt production . Use a torque converter type transmission. And refund anyone who asks for one. A cheerful refund is in order. How can they advertise a automatic transmission when mechanically its not?avoid this car. Boooo on the 2012 focus. I guess the consumer is Ford motor companies r and d team. Why should consumers be stuck holding the bag. This is bad business practice and Ford has a social responsibility to make this right. As stated earlier I do not want it back!.
