Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the Fusion.
I purchased the car January 17, 2024, few weeks later the check engine light came on then disappeared, I was also experiencing problems with the seat cooling function, as the touch screen controls was showing that they were both on and it was still winter/rainy season outside. I took the car innto Ford dealer at sanbernardino CA, they told me that most likely it was just a dashboard light malfunction because the diagnostics results came out fine and after researching in other manuals even though the seat cooling function was switched to "on", the car did not come equipped with seat cooling only heated seats. 3 weeks later after taking my car home, the check engine light came on again on y dashboard, I bought an obdii diagnostic tool, the result came back with 2 different powertrain codes that were strictly manufacturer codes. 1st code was p1450 which is defined as unable to bleed gas tank - excessive vaccum. 2nd code was p2196 which is defined by O2 sensor stuck trying to correct 1st code. The p2196 eventually cleared on its own but the p1450 became permanent. I had a diagnostic mechanic take a look at it and he told me the same thing, except that the main culprit is the purge flow valve, which is a recall issue on other Ford Fusions. When I purchased the car, I was showed that the car had no recalls but the "myford" app and ownership didnt transfer to me right away until 30 days after the purchase, which is when it finally let me viewed the cars prior service / maintanance history and even though the car sales lady showed me VIN records where it says there is no recalls and it had no accidents, records that she showed me 30 days prior to me gaining actual ownership thru "my Ford" when purchasing the vehicle. The "my Ford" app states that it seems as if the car was in an accident in the past because almost $8000 went into repairs towards transmission and other main components. California smog check records show that the car has only had 1 test in CA last sept 2023.

At approximately 125000 miles, the vehicle displayed the check engine light and was experiencing difficulty restarting after refueling. Local auto parts store code reader displayed etc p1450. Online research pointed to a faulty cannister purge valve. This fault and accompanying symptoms were outlined in recall # 18s32. This recall is not currently applicable to my VIN. Diagnosis performed by sanders Ford in swansboro, nc confirmed faulty purge valve.

Drivetrain warning light then a check engine light came on. Had the codes read (p2119) came up took to Ford shop and was told my throttle body actuator control system was stuck closed and had failed. My vehicle has just over 41000 miles on it. Luckily it is covered by the warranty.
I have a 2017 Ford Fusion titanium with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine that has 72,890 miles. I experienced rough idle for about a week then my check engine light came on. I had the engine light checked and showed the code p0302 which is a misfire in cylinder 2. When I proceeded to leave the place of business where I had the light checked white smoke came out of my exhaust upon start up and was still coming out by the time I drove home. I proceeded to do my research over the next couple of weeks following and found out it is a known issue and Ford will only cover if under power train warranty, even though it happens outside the warranty time frame just as much as with in the warranty window. I proceeded to have my car towed to the dealership and a diagnostic done and they said that everything I stated above is exactly the issue along with the pcm self-test showing p0217 engine over temperature condition was detected, and the engine long block assembly does have to be replaced. Nothing showed up on my dash to warn me of overheating or anything of the nature. Only the check engine light appeared.

My car has approximately 61,000 miles on it and one day, I turned it on and it made a rough sound starting up. I then noticed my car was shaking and that my check engine light had come on, so I elected to not drive it to ensure no further damage could occur. I consulted with two mechanics who both stated that fluid was leaking from my spark plugs, caused by fluid in my cylinders, and that it was necessary to replace my engine. They plugged code readers in that indicated that my second cylinder was misfiring. After researching online about this issue, I found many other cars of my make and model that had the same issue, some of which stated fires and other serious dangers and were all within 15,000 miles of usage as my car. I am discouraged and disappointed by the fact that I was sold a defective vehicle. I paid good money for a corporation to neglect their mistakes and land me with a 400 dollar car payment on a nonfunctional vehicle that could've caused serious injury or death in certain circumstances. I intend to take my vehicle to the dealership where I purchased it on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 to discuss my options.
Check engine light came on.

The owner/myself driving vehicle home my 2017 Ford Fusion se 1. 5l on the interstate when white smoke billowed out from the exhaust leading to a seized engine on a high traffic density highway. The car started to sputter, clunk and the check engine light kept flashing as I pulled off the side of the road. This car had issues before the failure of the engine with cylinders misfiring, spark plugs being fouled at low mileage and engine losing coolant. Per my vehicles breakdown I brought it to a local mechanic who worked for Ford and stated my engine locked up and needs to be replaced, after bringing my car to another shop for a second diagnosis, it was the same answer after a full look at it. I tried calling Ford in michigan they gave me the run around, my dealer fred beans of Ford gave me the run around saying I have to cover this repair due to it being out of my warranty. I did the program 19b37 recall from Ford which reset the computer system for antifreeze and coolant entering the engine. Clearly, that issue that Ford tried to patch up didn't work. My mechanic & Ford determined that a new engine was needed and have found bulletins stating this is due to a manufacturing defect known by Ford as Ford had released the bulletins. This defect leads to engine failure and is nothing caused by the driver but solely due to the fact that when certain engines were manufactured they were manufactured incorrectly. Ford is unwilling to pay for engine replacement even though they have admitted this is fault during the manufacturing processes if the engine is to stall or seize during driving this could lead to serious injury, accident, and even death. Ford is not recalling this engine at this time. Please - recall this issue. 1. 5 & 2. 0 engines are very problematic. The cost for my repair is $4,800. 00 that I don't have.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to smith motor company inc (359 state route 31 s, washington, NJ 07882, (908) 835-8100) to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that cylinder #2 and the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle warranty had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

My 2016 Ford Fusion 1. 5l eco boost engine with 62,000 miles is currently in the shop needing a new engine. One day I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden my car starts shaking when accelerating and loss of power to the wheels. Since I was on a highway I tried to get to the nearest repair facility, but after 3 miles my car was not drivable as the check engine light started flashing and my car had no power from the engine. The repair facility advised I have coolant in my cylinders due to designed flaw from Ford, Ford's factory bulletin 19-2139 dated Nov 21, 2019 advises to replace engine. Spoke with Ford customer relations representative and supervisor and they will not help since the power train warranty is 2,000 miles over. My extended warranty will not cover cost of repair due to Fords factory bulletin regarding this issue. Ford recalled the 2017 Ford escapes for the same issue but now I am facing a $7,000 engine replacement or $14,000 negative equity if I trade in. I need help.
With the check engine light coming on weekly, I had the local Ford garage look at my car while in for another recall. They informed me it was a cylinder 3 misfire and was losing antifreeze. They said the engine would need replaced. My car had under 50k miles at that time.

Had a check engine light come on on my 2017 Ford Fusion se with only 61,000 miles and there was a misfire on the first 1000 revolutions and it was on cylinder 2. It was under warranty and I took it to the dealership and they said that coolant got into the cylinder and it caused major engine damage and I need a new engine. I will get a refurbished one for my $100 deductible but I thought I should get a brand new one. Ecoboost engines are garbage. One and done with those. Ill never buy a Ford with an ecoboost engine again. Toyota is much more reliable and perfects things unlike american car companies that only care about quarterly sales. I wont get my car for 2 to 6 weeks they said but did get a loaner car. Im going to trade that in ASAP.
Upon numerous rough start ups my Ford Fusion with a 1. 5l ecoboost engine, my check engine light illuminated. I scheduled diagnostic service at my preferred Ford dealer and they discovered mis firings in the cylinders. They informed me this is a very common problem with the Ford 1. 5l ecoboost engine. There have been multiple tsbs on this issue which requires a new engine rebuild. There already was a recall with the 1. 6l ecoboost engine. I was just informed by the dealer that Ford will not cover any expenses related to the repair. The car is a 2015 with 68k miles with all scheduled maintenance performed by Ford. This is disheartening to say the least with a complete product failure.
The contact owns a 2013 for Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the vehicle was shaking while the engine coolant light and check engine warning light was illuminated. In addition, the vehicle temperature gauge changed from cool to hot and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that it was an inaccurate temperature gauge reading. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred three weeks later. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine and engine coolant needed to be replaced and that there was a recall for the failed parts on the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooing) and that the warranty had expired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
When the engine gets to a warm temperature and then shut off and left for 10 or so minutes, when the engine is restarted, put it drive, within several seconds (15 seconds to 120 seconds) it will begin shuttering and die while driving. Restarting the engine after it quits (which takes about 2 seconds, longer than normal) will start and will again die when beginning to drive. I have been experiencing this issue for about 5-6 months on my Ford with +/- 66k miles. The issue is getting worse and much more frequent. No check engine light or diagnostic codes are present. I have experienced this issue multiple times when turning onto a busy road and it is becoming more and more of a safety concern. I do not experience this issue following a cold engine start.

Slow to start, when it did start the check engine light came on. While in park car would shake and I could hear a boiling noise. When driving it was slow to accelerate, when it did accelerate it would jump as if it was catching up with itself. Every 5 mins or so a notification would appear on the dashboard that said coolant temperate over heating. Took it directly to the Ford dealer and was told I needed a new engine, that there was so much coolant inside of the engine it wouldn't unplug.
Coolant got into the cylinder due to a known issue with this motor. A software update was offered to try and prevent the problem but the damage had already been done. The car has 65000 miles and is 5000 over the warranty. Ford was contacted by myself and the local Ford dealer and they will not help at all. The check engine light came on and I took it to the local garage and they changed the spark plugs and then at around 60000 miles the light kept coming on and off. After about a week the car started shaking really badly upon start up. The software update was issued and I took it to the Ford dealer and they said it is a known issue with this motor and Ford has yet to offer a recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that her daughter discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was taken to al packer Ford west palm beach (1530 n. Military trail, west palm beach, FL 33409) to receive the free repair. Several days after the vehicle was repaired, the check engine warning light began to flash intermittently on the instrument panel. Additionally, the evap and stability control warning lights were also illuminated. The contact stated that her son had inspected the vehicle and discovered that the coolant level was below the minimum mark. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
At 55k miles the check engine light appeared. We immediately took the car to the dealer. We are told that there is a coolant intrusion in a cylinder and that the entire engine will need to be replaced. The vehicle warranty started June 26, 2015. The vehicle was checked into the dealer 6/30/2020, 4 days after the 5 year/60 mile warranty expired. Days expired, not milage. We are being told by the dealer and Ford customer service that nothing will be done to fix the car even though the issue is a known problem and the replacement engine that would be installed is completely redesigned due to the known defect.
Check engine light on while on highway, after getting off there was a very rough idle. Towed to frontier Ford in san jose, CA. Found p0302, p0315 pcm. Engine misfire. #2 cylinder was found to have coolant inside. A new engine log block is needed to correct this concern. This engine clearly has a number of issues, reported by many other owners. It would seem that this engine has about a 5 year life regardless of mileage. A recall needs to be issued in order for Ford to pay for this faulty engine. This is a very difficult time for many people across the country and it's only right that Ford is responsible for correcting this issue.
Nothing yet happened, I took it to the dealership a day after I bought it because of what they called a ghost check engine light that would pop on for a few seconds and then went away. I also realized the car is needing a frequent refill for coolant.
Check engine light came on, had a rough idle. Mechanic notified me that it was a misfire in cylinder one, replaced spark plugs and cleared the code, was running fine. Few days later check engine light came back on. Took it to dealer and they notified me that there was coolant in my cylinder and that my engine may have to be replaced.
Bought my Ford Fusion1. 5l used from a private dealership in April 2019 at 88k miles. Few months later notice slight drop in coolant reservoir. By March 2020, engine started shaking one day which followed by illuminated check engine light, misfiring code for cylinder 2 and 3 were pulled using obd scan tool. Spark plugs were replaced, and problems went away until may 2020, noticed a faster rate of coolant loss, then engine vibrates and idling rough. Code for misfiring in cylinder number 3. After some research over the internet, seems like it's a manufacture defect. Car is currently sitting to prevent further damages to the engine. Please help!.
At approximately 70000 miles the check engine light came on and the engine would run rough when started but would smooth out and operate fine. The check engine light went off after a few days and would repeat every week or so. At 73000 miles the check engine came on and the engine was misfiring. Took to the Ford dealer and was diagnosed as p0301 and p0316 cylinder 1 misfire. Pressure tested coolant system losing pressure. Tried to remove #1 sparkplug could not be removed. Diagnosed "most likely needs a long block because of spark threads and short block issues with these". Estimated cost $7000. The dealer filed a request with Ford for cost relief which, after a week, was denied. I called Ford customer relations and asked for help on escalating the issue and was told to have the dealer file an appeal which I have requested. Seems like a common problem with this engine given the complaints here and the comments from the dealer personnel.
My 2015 Fusion had intermittent rough idles and the check engine light popped on. I checked out the code and it was p0301 - misfire in cylinder 1. I took it to the local Ford dealer penske Ford in la mesa, CA - for inspection. The service advisor had his team pressure test and boroscope the engine and found coolant residue in cylinder 1. He said that they checked for the fix to the issue and found a service bulletin about it (I found it on NHTSA website bulletin 20-2100), which directed them to replace the short-block - $7,000 ish dollars to fix. With just a small amount of research I discovered that this is a problem many Ford owners are having right now with this engine - 1. 5l i4 f dohc 16v. . Read more...
