1 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2019 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

My car is part of a recall with Ford motor company - customer satisfaction recall 21n12 - I have a coolant leak which can cause fire, and dealership refuses to help because my VIN number doesn"t show up as being affected. However in a letter mailed out by Ford motor company it states my vehicle is in fact covered under the saftey recall. . Original recall letter was for 2013-2028 Ford Fusion ecoboost engines. Ford mailed out another letter saying that some 2019 models will experience same issue due to having the same engine. Ford did not mail out letters to 2019 owners for this recall. According to the recall , my car was built at the same plant and same time. I need my VIN number somehow attached to this recall so my dealership can do what is right. Fryer Ford in ahoskie, nc refuses to help and I do not want to risk driving something that can catch fire. Please tell me what I need to do or verify that my car is in fact part of this recall. Thank you for any assistance in this matter.

2 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

My 2017 Ford Fusion 2. 0 eco could have caught on fire with my 6 year old inside!! I went to start my car & it didn’t want to turn over. Turned car off. Tried again. Started up but sputtered manically. . Then “kind of” settled down. I was maybe 2 miles down the road && coolant temp high light turned on. I pulled over immediately turned car off. Checked coolant levels…. It was below minimum (no visible leaks) replaced coolant, car started smoother. 2 days later. I started my car it was a little rough && as I began driving I could see what looked like white smoke coming from exhaust. I looked for a safe place to quickly pull over and the coolant temp high light dinged on again. I checked levels…again below minimum. . This is 2 days after I refilled the coolant…. Once again there are no visible leaks on the ground. It is the weekend so have not made it to dealership. Myself & my 6 year old daughter were in the car && the engine could have blown or caught fire!! this is absolutely unacceptable && unsafe. This is unsafe to the people around me && on the road due to the smoke of the car, possible flames, && sudden stop. This is beyond dangerous. I’m positive after researching that this is coolant intrusion in the engine. I was never informed of this possible issue by Ford. I am a single mother, with one vehicle, this should not be my bill especially since I’ve maintained the maintenance on this vehicle regularly. I will be taking my Fusion to the Ford dealership Monday where I hope Ford will cover this issue. (( I can update later if needed )).

3 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/13/2021

I purchased my used 2015 Ford Fusion with on 70,000 miles on it on a Tuesday, on the following Thursday the check engine light came on. I took it to a shop to be diagnosed and was told it just needed coolant. So they added coolant and the check engine light went off and everything was fine. . . . . . But then the following Tuesday the check engine light came on again. I decided to take it to an auto parts store to be quickly diagnosed and the code showed up as p26ce (engine coolant pump-overspeed/air in system), I then checked to see if there was coolant still in the tank and noticed that the tank was completely empty. So I then took my car back to the shop the following day and they searched for the leak. They eventually found the leak in the thermostat housing. They showed me the thermostat housing and how corroded it was, they then had to order a new thermostat housing and let me know that the new part still wouldn?t be a permanent fix, that in 70,000 more miles the new thermostat housing will become defective again because of corrosion. Ford should offer a permanent fix for the corroding thermostat housings!!!.

6 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

Vehicle had 62579 miles when it threw a p1299 code for engine overheat. Ford checked and said the engine was leaking coolant into the cylinders and it's a common problem on the 1. 5 l eco boost engine as per TSB 20-2100. They also said it's out of warranty due to being over 60000 miles. From research it looks like Ford has a known issue with this engine and they are not willing to stand behind it and fix it as they should.

8 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

My 2016 Ford Fusion has approximately 53,000 miles on it and threw three check engine lights in the time since I purchased it (with about 18k on it). I took it in immediately every time. On the third time I was told there was coolant leaking into the block and it would need a new engine. It was 2weeks past warranty. I have researched, despite knowing nothing about engines, and found that this appears to be common. Ford refused to pay for the whole replacement. They are now saying my turbo charger is bad and I am out for 3600?? it has been in the shop for two weeks. . . Dealer shop at which I bought it and I am very frustrated.

12 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

Purchased a 2013 Ford Fusion in 2020 and kept the car for about 4 months. During the 4th month of owning the car I noticed that I would fill up the coolant reservoir and a couple days later I would have to fill it up again. I checked under the car for leaks and there weren't any leaks that I could find. I checked forums for any other people having the same problem and I found out that there is an internal engine coolant leak for Ford Fusions with the 1. 6l ecoboost models. That's the exact model I have. I called Ford gave them my VIN number and they told me there weren't any recalls for my vehicle at the time. So I had a mechanic check out my coolant lines and they told me that there was a huge leak in my coolant system, although they couldn't tell me where. I had the vehicle pressure tested and the leak was internal. Drove the car back home that day and once I reached my house smoke started to come inside the cabin. I immediately parked the vehicle and popped the hood and noticed there was a fire under my hood. Called the fire department they arrived after about 3 minutes and by that time the vehicle was done for. I could've lost my life that day. I'm happy that I didnt. Ford previously recalled certain 2013 and 2014 Ford vehicles equipped with the 1. 6l engine for a similar issue under recall campaigns 12v551 and 17v209. Unfortunately I'm now out of $12,000 and I no longer have a vehicle because of this mechanical failure.

13 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/30/2021

Getting a check engine light - the reading is misfire on cylinder 1. After our mechanic has tried over and over to find where the leak is coming from. He spoke to a mechanic that works for Ford. He was told that it is a known fault in that engine that the coolant leaks into the engine and will eventually cause the engine to lock up - crack the block. Ford has not done a recall for this item even though I am able to find numerorus complaints of the same problem. My car is not under warranty and I owe too much to just trade the car in to become someone else's problem. So know I have our mechanic looking for an engine and have to just hope and pray that this engine that we find doesn't have the same issue. Wish I could understand why there has not been a recall for this issue if it is a known problem.

14 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/12/2021

While driving on the interstate my control panel started throwing an alarm of engine temp high. It would go off then back on several times. About 15-30 mins heading home the engine light came on and cut power to the engine. This is the second time this has happened in the life of this car. First time Ford replaced the engine. This time they say that its not under warranty and want me to replace it again. The life of this new engine is less than 2 years old and less than 12000 miles on it. Coolant leaking into the engine. This is a serious issue that is going to get somebody killed if it hasn't already!.

15 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

Continued problems with engine coolant. A couple of years ago I had a couple of recalls for the engine coolant sensor faulting and leaving my family. Stranded in subzero temperatures. The car was serviced for these and now is leaking coolant I to the engine through a faulty head gasket issue filling my oil with coolant and making the car overheat. The car has 106,000 miles on it and is serviced regularly.

16 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

My warranty with the vehicle was for 60,000 miles, at 62,000 miles, the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealership and was informed it was leaking coolant into the cylinder block and the engine would have to be replaced. Ford denied my request for any assistance in the repair.

17 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/31/2020

Car is losing coolant. I see there have been other Fords have been recalled for a coolant leak / poor circulation but my car is not on that list. We can't figure out where it is losing coolant or why it keeps showing it is overheating. In idle is shows it is overheating when you are start moving the temp goes down. Checked coolant and it was low. Added coolant then there was white smoke coming from the engine. Smoke stopped but the next day it showed it was overheating again when in idle state. Took back to the mechanic. They can't find where it is losing coolant but shows it is losing coolant. I see there have been other recalls for this on the same model as mine and other Ford models as well. My VIN doesn't show it is recalled for this item. Want to get fixed before I have to buy a new engine due to head gasket issue for a car I have only owned for a year and half.

18 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/25/2020

Had to have the engine replaced for 2500$. Engine started leaking coolant last year. Tried to seal with head gasket leak fix. After over heating several times throughout the year, engine failed. This should be a recall.

19 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/17/2020

The car reads as a 4th cylinder misfire but it's not. The coil has been replaced twice and the spark plugs have been replaced twice also. Went back to Ford after spending all this money to tell me there is a leak going into my engine form my coolant. Now I have to get a new whole engine and I only have the car for about 3-4 years. This is about a $5,000-$6,000 fix. After researching, this should be a recall due to the amount of similar cases there has been. When driving, the light would come on and off when it wants and it sometimes would bolt forward this is due to the leak to the engine. I've had to had it towed once because it was starting to give up. This is when I took it to Ford to misdiagnose me that it was the spark plugs when it was not. This is unsafe to drive and an outrageous price to pay.

20 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

My engine is misfiring on the second cylinder due to a crack in the engine that's causing coolant to leak into the cylinder because of the material that the engine block was made.

21 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

I purchased the car 4 months ago and discovered shortly after it was leaking coolant from a hose in the heating system. This external coolant leak was a 500$ repair. Earlier this week, my check engine light came on for the first time when I was in traffic on my way home from work. I was driving about 20 mph and heard a dull thud (I was told later this was probably my engine popping). I immediately took the car to a shop to have the code read (p0302). I scheduled an appointment at my local Ford dealership at 7 am the next morning (14 hours after the light came on). They diagnosed the car and called me to tell me there was an internal coolant leak in the engine and the only way to fix the car was a total engine replacement. They quoted me at 8500$ (more than the amount I purchased the car for) and told me multiple times there was nothing else I could do to fix it. I found out after my family checked out the car that the leak had caused a cracked head gasket and the spark plugs in the cylinder were contaminated from the coolant. The Ford ecoboost 1. 6l engine has an open recall for causing engine fires because of an internal coolant leak, but they refused to acknowledge that the design flaw in the engine that cause coolant leaks led to the irreparable damage to my engine. They told me I could drive the car off the lot since I was not completing the repair there, but I couldn't make it out of the parking lot and had to have the car towed to my house. The car was shaking and the check engine light was flashing, which it had not been when I brought the car in. The engine is not safe and even if I were to fix it the design flaw would likely cause the problem to reoccur. Ford needs to acknowledge the engine is unsafe and pay to replace it with a newer engine that does not have the same flaws.

22 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

There was a recall on my model in 2018 which they say was fixed. But it is causing un going issues. Now the (ctv)? module needs replacing. Bottom line, cylinder head sensor keeps shooting a code that the coolant is to low, while it is not. You start the car and the needle shoots to hot. Warning signal goes of and engine starts to shake plus fans kick on. Engine light plus overheating comes on. Leaks have been fixed but the module was a recall and they verbally no longer grant it freely fixed, because of time overlaps.

23 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

I purchase a 2015 Ford Fusion se with 119,00 miles great condition car. . . The car will mot start. . . I've towed the car to mechanic shops where they informed me that I need to replace my engine. In disbelief I told the car to elderly Ford dealership in troy, mi where are they notified me that I needed to replace my engine because coolant was leaking into my engine and the repairs will cost mev$7500 they've done two diagnostic test were they find fault in Ford! I need to resolve this matter.

24 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2018 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/08/2020

Purchased 2018 Ford Fusion titanium used in August 2019. In December 2020 my check engine light came on and I took it for service. Service told me that there is a technical bulletin on the ecoboost engine because there is a bad cast on the head. This causes coolant to leak into the oil. The only way to repair is to replace the engine. Ford refuses to stand behind their product and the cost of fixing it falls on me. The vehicle was moving when the check engine light came on and the car smelt of burning. White smoke was coming from the exhaust.

25 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

I checked after getting the message and coolant tank was completely empty. There was no visible leak where I had parked. Reading on to possible problems online, I read that this is a serious and known issue. My vehicle has always been serviced on schedule and this is not normal. 12-1-2020.

Failure Date: 10/27/2020

Coolant leaking in to cylinder from manufacturing error car shaking on start up and white smoke.

33 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

There is a coolant leak in cylinder 2. Of my 2l ecoboost requiring a complete long block replacement. This can cause the car to overheat and/or run unreliably. I have had to pull over on the side of a busy highway to add coolant. This will no doubt leave me stranded one day soon, as this is a known problem for many of Ford's ecoboost engines yet they have not recalled these faulty engines. And I can not afford an $8,000 repair there is a Ford technical service bulletin 19-2346 date of issue december19 2019.

34 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Driving on highway and car overheats and have to pull over. The car shutdown. A coolant problem not a big deal. Take it in and have a code saying it is misfire #2 #3. Replace plugs do a tune up and ask about the over heating problem. Said we were low on antifreeze. Strange cause we had just topped all fluids when we changed oil. Okay pick it up runs great for one day, engine light comes on again. Take it back and get it checked misfire again. Leave car with mechanic and he goes thru it. Test driving and engine light comes back on. Gets it back to the shop, starts looking around and notices the coolant which he just filled is dry. After further review the coolant is leaking into the engine. The diagnose is the engine needs to be replaced. The vehicle has 80000 miles on it and should not have a problem of this sort going on at all. We took it in to Ford and was told they can help us . This is there product correct?.

35 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/17/2020

Car is around 80,000 miles and has coolant leaking into the cylinders. Previously I had some misfire codes coming through and had the spark plugs replaced. However, the car continued to rough idle and the engine light periodically would come back on. A few days ago the car informed me that the engine was overheating while driving on the highway. I refilled the coolant to the correct level and checked back the next day. The coolant was below the minimum line again so I took it to the dealership. This is when they dealership told me about the need for an engine replacement.
