36 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

Check engine light was on indicating a misfire in engine 3. Ford dealership recommended new sparkplugs and ignition coil. I completed the repair, check engine light disappeared. After few days, the engine started overheating suddenly without any warning. I checked the coolant reservoir and it was near empty. Paid Ford again to diagnose the problem, this time they identified coolant intrusion in engine 4 caused by internal coolant leak. The recommendation is a new reman Ford engine with the estimate of $5000.

37 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/05/2020

Started to lose coolant, couldnt see anywhere that it was leaking, or any signs of leaking. Refilled the coolant resvoir. Drove to work the next day, and when I got off of work I tried to start the car and it wouldnt fire. Once it was moved all of the oil had been laying on the ground where the car was parked. Done alot of research and found out that the cylinder heads are junk and was loosing coolant in to the cylinder. So now im stuck with a $200 a month payment for something that happened that has happening to thousands of care with the 1. 5l eco boost turbo. . . And there still is recall??? the car doesn't have 130,000 miles yet.

41 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/27/2020

We have now experienced the identical defect in the engine in this car two times. Coolant is leaking into the engine causing it to fail the first time and now triggering check engine lights that the dealership states will require the engine to be replaced again meaning it will be the third engine in a 5 year old car with 55000 miles. The first issue occurred in April 2019. The car engine stopped while being driven on a suburban parkway creating a dangerous situation to pull out of traffic. It needed to be towed to dealership. The engine had burned off all the coolant and when tested the dealership stated coolant was leaking into the engine and it would need to be replaced. There were 41,000 miles on the car so the engine replacement was covered by warranty. Since then we have driven the car 14,000 miles in 18 months on the new engine that was replaced. In September of 2020 the check engine light came on while driving on the highway. We took it to a auto parts store to download the code for the check engine light. It was p0300, an engine misfire. We took to a local shop to check it out. He diagnosed the same issue. He found coolant in cylinder 1 and it was 1/2 gallon short of coolant. He stated this is known issue and engine would need to be replaced. I shared it had already been replaced and he recommended taking it back to dealer that did work. I drove it to dealer and they confirmed the same issue with coolant in the engine and it would need to be replaced. This time, it's not under warranty so we will have to buy a new engine for $5k. I have requested Ford stand behind the replacement engine with 14,000 miles on it only to be told no, the new engine isn't covered. The car has 55,500 miles on it currently.

42 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/24/2020

Vehicle codes started to appear on the dashboard ( temp light, engine light, battery light) warning signs also appeared ( overheating in engine ) engine coolant started to decrease no leak was detected. It was taken to a mechanic to get evaluated and they came to the conclusion that it was leaking internally into the car which caused other issues. This car was purchased February 2020 so 8 months later the car has completely crashed. White smoke is also expelling from the vehicle exhaust. The spark plugs are burning up they were replaced approximately 8 days ago and they are completely burned white.

43 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/22/2020

Engine is leaking coolant into the cylinders.

44 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

Car started leaking coolant in may, but no visible sign of leaking. Car never overheated and kept coolant at appropriate level. Car would occasionally misfire on startup and would have cylinder 1 misfire. One day car began to shake at highway speed and immediately slowed down and left highway. Took to Ford dealership and was told that coolant was leaking into combustion chamber and needed a new engine.

45 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/13/2020

Engine coolant is being consumed by the engine leading to unsafe engine overheating. This internal leak occurs during all driving situations.

46 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2018 Ford Fusion

47 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/11/2020

At 78,000 miles my car had a check engine light come on upon starting the engine followed by a drop in power upon starting it. The check engine turned off on my way to the shop, and they were unable to determine why it came on and turned off. About 1 week later it came on again and I had it checked and it was determined that there was a cylinder 1 misfire with a error code p0301. I had the spark plugs and ignition coils all replaced. The check engine light came on again about 2 weeks later after experiencing a drop in power upon starting the vehicle. And shortly turned off again. I then received a high coolant temperature warning while driving, and made a stop to refill my coolant housing to the max line. Not even 2 weeks later I received the same high coolant temperature warning while traveling down the interstate followed by sudden emissions of white smoke out of the exhaust pipes. There was no check engine light on during or after this incident. I pulled the vehicle over and shut the engine off, then had it towed to a trusted mechanic. He determined that the coolant may be leaking into the cylinder 1 causing it to misfire and eventually leading to a blown head gasket. This car was meticulously cared for and maintained and somehow has a blown head gasket before reaching 80,000 miles. The extent of the damage to the engine is still to be determined.

48 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

I have a 2015 Ford Fusion se ecoboost currently around 76000 miles. About 2 weeks ago the check engine light turned on. The scan had reported a cylinder misfire due for a spark plug change along with a coil change. Made the replacements day after, check engine light was corrected. A week ago it overheated, coolant had disappeared, even after refilling the coolant at max the vehicle wouldn't register the coolant. No movement, not drivable. Got it towed to the nearest Ford dealership. Waited for almost a week for them to diagnose the car, come to find out my car is in need of a new engine. The technician said the coolant was being eaten by the engine and there was no way to find out where in the engine was the leak. excessive moisture could cause the engine to combust if driven in this condition. the engine was absorbing the moisture. What I can't understand is how could this be a common problem in Ford Fusion ecoboost models and not be a manufacturer recall. If car was kept up with maintenance, and never brought up when getting serviced. There's no wear and tear damage it's a manufacture defect. A car engine should not last 5 years from being brand new to basically totaled car. . Ford should provide a recall . This is unacceptable. Even after contacting Ford they mentioned no coverage after 5 year power train warranty.

49 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/08/2020

Engine starting rough then evening out. Took to dealership. Was told that coolant was leaking into cylinder making for initial rough idle. Service bulletin says to replace engine. We had them tear down the engine to confirm it was not a head gasket. Results negative. So, had the engine replaced for $6800. 00.

50 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

Car has 60k miles. Losing coolant no leak. Didn't start one day. Firestone couldn't find the problem. Had my car towed to baytown Ford. After a week and a $800 authorization to open the engine only. Next day I was told I need a new engine. $6k. My question was what caused the engine failure, and how can I be sure the new engine wont have the same problem. My oil changes are regular. Mobil 1 oil and filter. I was told the sludge in my engine was because I had a aftermarket oil filter not a motorcraft filter. Not in writing. I knew better and after some research I found a plethora if other owners has had the exact same problem. My car is my key to providing for my family and I dont have $6k for a manufacturer defect. Car has also cut off while my wife was driving but cranked immediately.

51 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/31/2020

Ford Fusion with 75000 miles. Repair shop just diagnosed my engine issue as a coolant leak into the engine block. This is an ongoing problem with Fusions of this age. Repair cost is a replacement of the engine $8000.

52 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/30/2020

Engine ran rough on start up, check engine light came on, took car to Ford dealer who told me coolant was leaking into #3 cylinder and engine would need replaced, mileage on car is 64,441. It looks like Ford has a manufacturing defect in this 1. 5 engine as my problem is not a isolated problem.

53 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

My vehicles check engine light came on and immediately after the light appeared the car began to lose power, become sluggish and slow to accelerate. The vehicle had to be stopped on the expressway and towed to a repair shop (delkers automotive 12198 lewis Ave, temperance, mi 48182) who looked at the vehicle and explained to me that there was leaking engine coolant into the cylinder that caused the engine to overheat and crack. There was complete engine failure and I would need a new engine at 73,000 miles. I had the vehicle towed to brondes Ford at 5545 secor road toledo, OH on August 28th. Brondes Ford verified what delker's automotive had found, the coolent leak into the cylinder that caused the engine to crack. Brondes Ford told me that this is a known issue and that I should try to file a claim with Ford to recoup some of the cost of a new engine as I was outside of the warranty, at 73k miles. I was told by Ford when calling in to make a claim that they would not assist me with any kind of monetary help, even though the issue is a known issue, because there is no current recall. I have now been without a vehicle for two months as I do not have the $8000. 00 to replace the engine, and have received no help from Ford. It is unacceptable that this issue is a known issue and nothing is getting done about it. There was a previous safety recall that addresses the engine issue on safety recall # 17s09 for the Ford Fusion 2013-2014 models, and the fact that the issue is still happening in later models shows the issue was not corrected by Ford, and is honestly appalling that they can get away with it.

54 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

My check engine light came on when I started my car to go to work one morning. I got my code reader and plugged it in, it showed p0301 and p0304 ( generic code for misfire on cylinders 1 and 4). I figured I had bad spark plugs or ignition coils so I replaced them with all new parts. Drove the car for about two days and the check engine light returned again when starting my car. Plugged the code reader back in, same code readings. My car is still under an extended warranty plan so I took it to a repair shop. They ran a diagnostic test and found the same codes. After a couple of hours, they informed me that they were going to replace the fuel sensors because they believed that was the problem. They replaced the sensors and cleared the check engine light and I was on my way. A few days later the check engine light came back on when I started my car. I contacted the repair shop again and they told me to bring it back in. I dropped the car off to them for 5 days. When they called me back they said they were unable to determine the cause and I should take it to the dealership. Took the car to the dealership and they informed me that I need to replace the engine because I have a cracked cylinder that is leaking coolant into the engine. The warranty company is trying to deny my claim, stating that the engine overheated due to improper maintenance. I change my own oil and I change it well before the manufacturer's recommendation. I follow all the specifications and use premium products so I know that it is not from improper maintenance. After doing some research I found that this seems like a common problem among these engine types and I have even found a few websites where people are trying to start a class action lawsuit. This entire experience/process has been a giant headache. Hopefully there is a resolution in the near future.

55 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/16/2020

Engine coolant leaked into multiple cylinders and the engine needs to be replaced. Apparently this is a design flaw and has been known by Ford for many years and has not been recalled. This is the ecoboost engine in a 2017 Ford Fusion platinum. Now the engines are on back order so it will take many weeks to get replaced. The warranty only covers a rental car for 10 days.

56 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/14/2020

The check engine light came on in my vehicle and it was idling rough so I took it by autozone to get the diagnostic check. It showed p0300, cylinder misfire. I took my vehicle to the Ford dealership but the check engine light had gone off so they changed the spark plugs thinking this would fix it. A few days later, the same thing happened, with the addition of white smoke coming out of the exhaust, while idling. When I took it in the second time, the light was not on anymore and it wasn't smoking. They couldn't replicate the problem. About a week later, when I started the vehicle, it idled rough and then died. When I started it back up, the check engine light was on again and white smoke was coming from the back of the vehicle. When I started driving, on a city street, white smoke began billowing from the exhaust. The smoke was so thick that I couldn't see anything behind me. I immediately called the Ford dealership and made an appointment to get it looked at again. This time they informed me that coolant was leaking into one of the cylinders and that I would need a new engine and it was going to cost $7,300. My car has been in the shop now for almost two weeks waiting for the extended warranty company to make a decision on whether or not they will pay for the repair. TSB 19-2346 addresses the issue but the vehicle owner still has to pay for the repair if they don't have a warranty or it doesn't cover it. The first incident was on 7/22/20 and the final incident was on 8/14/20.

57 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

In Aug 2020 the check engine light came on in my 2015 Ford Fusion after it started rough. I brought it to the Ford dealership for service. They said the spark plugs and coils should be replaced (check engine code was p0303, cylinder misfire). A month later the same issue occurred again. Called the dealership and the service mgr said 'OH, there have been problems with the Fusion ecoboost engines. Coolant leaks into the cylinders and damages them. He said the design of the engine block has score grooves between the cylinders eventually causing the leak and corrosion to start. He then proceeded to inform me that the long block and head gasket would need to be replaced and the starting cost would $5,000+. But likely closer to $7000. Further he said Ford was aware of the issue but not recalling or covering the replacement cost. He said he had 8 other vehicles on the lot needing the same repair and even if they had the parts in stock, which they don't and it would take some time to get them, if would be 6 weeks to complete the repair. The replacement would be the entire engine which Ford has corrected the issue and removed the scored grooves. I have maintained my Fusion with the same Ford dealership and had all routine maintenance and care done there. This engine issue was there at the time it was manufactured and was a time bomb. I should not have to incur the expense or financial loss to replace the engine. If left unrepaired the engine will eventually cease and depending on where that occurs could be dangerous to me and surrounding drivers. I have parked my vehicle for now until the service manager lets me know what Ford will do, if anything. He said they might give me some help but I would have to cover most of the expense!!! I.

58 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

While driving my 2017 Fusion 2. 0 eco boost with 77,000 miles the "service engine soon" light came on. The light went off a few days later but I had already made a service appointment at the dealer where I had purchased it brand new. They've also done all of the routine maintenance. They said it just needed new spark plugs and injectors cleand, so they did the work and charged me $400. After I got the car back 2 days later the light came back on, I returned the car to them. It's 2000 miles over the extended warrranty I purchased. After they had it a few days they determined it has coolant leaking into cyclinder number 1. The repair was $6,236. 92 to fix. I was able to persuade the dealership into having the extended warranty company pay half. My part was $3236. 92.

59 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/09/2020

Cyl 2 misfire since 2 months after I bought car at 56k miles. Now overheating, coolant leaking into engine at rate of about a gallon/week. Still have 5 years owed on a $350/mo yard ornament. Ford is awefull!!! same junk as the 1. 6l they "fixed. ".

60 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

Check engine light came on and was running rough. It also began to overheat and run low on coolant. The check engine light indicated a misfire in cyclinder 1. I took it to the Ford dealership and was told coolant was leaking into the cyclinder and could not be repaired. I was told I need a new engine. I researched this and saw that this is happening very often to engines like mine. The service manager said there were no recalls but this shouldn't happen. This occurred while driving on the city streets and highway.

61 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

Ford Fusion 2015 1. 5l. Coolant system pressure tested and coolant found leaking into cylinder number 1, due to manufacturing fault. 73,3000 miles on clock. Apparently a new engine is needed. Ford will not cover the cost of the engine replacement until they are forced to. Engine can catch on fire.

62 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The check engine light is on. The code was p0304, which is a misfire in cylinder 4. The spark plugs were due for a change, so I changed them, the oil has been changed at recommended intervals, and fuel injector cleaner used when filling up. The new spark plugs did not make the engine light go away after clearing the code. I tested the ignition coils, and they are fine. Also, the coolant level is often low, and I have to put a quart in a week. It is not leaking from anywhere. I started researching, and found that there are many other Ford Fusions with this problem, and the coolant is leaking into a cylinder, and giving the misfire on a certain cylinder code.

63 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/31/2020

Bought my vehicle new 5. 5 years ago and has 84,000 miles. Noticed a rumbling coming from the engine and then the check engine light came on. I looked under the hood and saw I was dangerously low on coolant. Took it to the shop and turns out that due to a defect with the 1. 5l ecoboost engines, coolant was leaking into the cylinder 3 causing it to misfire. The issue is exactly what is described on the Ford TSB #20-2100. Since I'm just passed my warranty I am now stuck paying for a new engine on a 5. 5 year old vehicle.

66 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/27/2020

There is a misfire on cylinder 1. Diagnosed as a coolant leak. It is the same engine that is in the 2017 Fusion that has a recall on the engine due to coolant leak.

67 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/26/2020

After 3 years of owning the car and 81,000 miles (purchased new and never had any issues), vehicle's engine block cracked, resulting in coolant contamination. Ford's investigation showed cylinder #2 and #3 were misfiring and oil was leaking in. The check engine light, poor acceleration, and rumbling while idling all first occurred on the highway, just 2 days after a Ford service center did a complete engine check and oil change. Once the check engine light started flashing at us and the engine wouldn't push past 2k rpms, we immediately pulled over (as Ford warned us that flashing indicated fuel was dumping into the engine). The Ford dealership we towed the car to had no availability to fix the car, as 4 other Fusions with the exact same engine and issue came in earlier that week. That's when the service manager acknowledged this is a much bigger issue than what we believed was a random break. Further investigation showed that we completed the recall Ford issued (customer satisfaction program 19b37) 8,000 miles prior to the engine cracking, which was to reprogram the powertrain control module to fix: "coolant intrusion into the cylinder bores can lead to coolant loss, excessive tailpipe smoke, or illuminated malfunction indicator lights due to engine misfire and could potentially lead to engine damage". Furthermore, Ford issued technical service bulletin 19-2139 that acknowledges this exact issue and the warning signs to look for, which Ford failed to identify during the engine check 2 days prior. It's clear there is a design flaw or manufacturing defect in the 1. 5l ecoboost engine for 2014-2019 Fusions, and I'm confident you will find thousands of other owners who have experienced the exact same issue. Ford acknowledged the issue with recall 19b37, though it's apparent it did not fix the issue. Ford is just too cheap to truly fix the mess they created.

68 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/24/2020

The car drove as expected until around 80k miles. Then the check engine light displayed with the code: p0302. This shows a misfire on cylinder #2. The cars coolant was recently refilled and upon inspection after the check engine light appeared, the coolant reservoir was again empty. The car was kept up on maintenance and didn't show any signs of malfunction prior. I later found out that coolant is leaking into the cylinder, causing it to misfire. The car prompted me to pull over and stop the engine because this issue was making it overheat. The car remains parked in the driveway as it is too fragile to drive.

69 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/23/2020

2013 Ford Fusion with 90k miles, multiple recalls for coolant system, dealer now saying engine must be replaced. Warranty service on 12/06/18 for new coolant sensor, and had bypass t-assembly replaced ($312 charge). Overheating with coolant leakage and oil leakage, return to dealer on 7/23/19. Assessment is the engine needed replacement, overheating caused cracked cylinder and coolant is leaking into the engine.

70 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/18/2020

2017 Ford Fusion 71,000 miles, coolant leak into cylinder 3. Many forums stating same problem in Fusions and Ford edge. Resulting in new engine purchase or $8k repair. While the vehicle was in motion I noticed power loss. Ford would not help in me in any way financially or waving any fee.
