1 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2018 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

2018 Ford Fusion se 1. 5l ecoboost 66k miles- 8/27/2020 I was exiting the freeway approaching a stoplight when out of no where my car felt as if it were going to stall out, very rough shaky idle, and idling at 800 or less rpms. On green, I attempted to go and my car was having trouble accelerating, again feeling as if it was going to stall due to little power. The check engine light came on and was flashing then would stay lit, flashing every so often. Air conditioning would go in and out warm to cold and it was rough and shaky trying to get the car to go. I took it to autozone immediately where I got the p0302 reading involving ignition coils and spark plugs. We replaced all 4 plugs and coil packs that night and the following morning and the car was still idling rough and having trouble accelerating. Took car to a mechanic shop 8/29/2020 where it was looked at 8/30/2020. They told me it was for sure cylinder 2 misfire and that the spark plug was covered in oil (which was brand new coils, no oil when they were replaced just days before). Had the car towed to the Ford dealership I purchased it at 9/1/2020 and it was inspected the following day. The verdict was vertical scoring present on cylinder walls in consistent with piston and piston ring causing oil consumption and pressure loss; needs a new long block. This was nothing I had done to the vehicle, no previous issues with the vehicle, up to date on all oil changes and maintenance but my warranty had ran out. After much research, I discovered this problem has happened to many 1. 5 l ecoboost engines and Ford is aware of the default in the engine. This was a problem with the engine before I took possession of the car. There is reprogramming of software to bandaid the problem but now this is my problem they want me to take responsibility for.

2 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Herky jerky acceleration. Dealership said it was a sensor. 6 months later, same problem. Dealership said a small oil leak burned through some wires. Stated some sort of issue with a wiring harness. Stated wiring harness needed replaced, but was virtually impossible to locate. Brakes constantly need repairs/replacements. Multiple times per year.

3 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While driving and slowing to a stop, the contact noticed an abnormal smoke odor emitting from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated that the odor was like burning oil. An independent mechanic determined that there was evidence of an oil leak, but could not locate its origin. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 97,900.

4 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/31/2009

Either in 2008 or 2009, shortly after purchasing a brand new 2007 Ford Fusion, I was greeted with the first major issue of my brakes going out on me while driving. Find out this was due to a defective master cylinder. The engine light turned on within 3-4 years of having the vehicle, and was found to be related to the thermostat, the engine would always run towards the cool end, never going above 1/3 of the way to the halfway mark. That was fixed after years of failed attempt. And all the while, I never had a functioning air condition unit and would have to repair yearly, and then found to be related the car always running too cool. Over the past two years, I have had to replace the gasket twice, because oil would appear in places it should not (I always maintain my car by doing the oil changes, etc on time). This past Sunday, I was driving and going around 70 mph when my car started to decelerate to 65, then 60, then would not go past 40 so I pulled off the interstate and drove back home. Over the next couple of days I smelled burnt oil, and the same issue with oil being where it should be happened again. Mechanic is telling me it is done, and after researching, this is not something unique to just my car. This is dangerous and people have reported many horrifying stores on the same issue, with some people's Fusions combusting and stalling them on the highway. I did notify the Ford company today of all the safety issues and other issues related to my car, just so they have it documented on their end as well. I am appalled this car does not have recalls other than the one related to the airbags, which they can not fix yet, posing my passenger at risk.

5 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/17/2007

Car was a 2007 Ford Fusion with merlot paint. Car was one week in my possession, and I had a hazing of the clear coat and solvent popped of the car. I have an appointment for a refinish job. Also ,the car had 1700 miles on it and was consuming oil. Dealer watched oil consumption, but has yet to correct the problem on the engine.
