1 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/26/2022

Ran rough on cold idle. Engine light came on. P0302, p0316. Upon inspection found engine had cracking, allowing coolant into the combustion chamber. Car has 115,ooo miles. We owe $4000 and a engine costs $5200. Turns out this is a common problem. A total engine failure should not be "common".

2 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

I / the owner of my 2017 Ford Fusion se 1. 5l had a seized engine occur on my commute home from work. White smoke billowed and brewed out my exhaust as I was in the right lane. I immediately pulled over to see what was going wrong and almost caused a collision for the person behind me. . After getting it towed the next day off the side of the highway I brought it to a reputable mechanic stating that this is a problematic issue with this vehicle and my engine block failed & cracked. Proceeding this, I went to another mechanic to get a second thought, just in case. Same response to the issue. Apparently, this is a huge issue with the 1. 5l. I was quoted $4,800 to fix this issue, money I don't have laying around, my warranty recently expired and both fred beans of langhorne & Ford motor company both told me to "pound sand" because of this issue. That this whole issue is on me to be fixed. Even though I brought my car in for the program 19b37 recall - which fixes the computer system to "prevent" this issue. " the vehicle has been in and out of the local shop for cylinder misfires, spark plug fouls & engine start up issues. Which apparently are leading signs to the vehicle engine block issue. It was determined that a new engine was needed and have found bulletins stating this is due to a manufacturing defect known by Ford as Ford had released the bulletins. This defect leads to engine failure and is nothing caused by the driver but solely due to the fact that when certain engines were manufactured they were manufactured incorrectly. Such as the 1. 5l. Ford is unwilling to pay for engine replacement even though they have admitted this is fault during the manufacturing processes if the engine is to stall or seize during driving this could lead to serious injury, accident, and even death. Ford is not recalling this engine at this time. Please recall this, now.

3 Engine Failure problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

Previously had engine replaced by local Ford dealer due to recall of coolant system causing overheat of the engine. Less than 2 years from time of replacement the engine failed for the exact same reason the original recall work was done. Am being told that this repair will not be covered under warranty of original work or recall.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/07/2019

Hi I have a 2017 Fusion that began to stall and have issues at 72,000 miles. After taking it to the mechanic they determined that a new engine was needed and have found bulletins stating this is due to a manufacturing defect known by Ford as Ford had released the bulletins. This defect leads to engine failure and is nothing caused by the driver but solely due to the fact that when certain engines were manufactured they were manufactured incorrectly. Ford is unwilling to pay for engine replacement even though they have admitted this is fault during the manufacturing processes if the engine is to stall or seize during driving this could lead to serious injury, accident, and even death. Ford is not recalling this engine at this time. Luckily my engine seized while stopped.

6 Engine Failure problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited multiple failures. The vehicle lost power independently and the brake pedal failed to engage while driving. Also, after fueling the vehicle, the engine failed to start. Furthermore, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to elk grove Ford (9645 auto center drive, elk grove, CA 95757, (916) 478-7000) where it was determined that the windshield wiper fluid penetrated the brake fluid. The brake lines, calipers, and the battery were replaced twice; however, the repairs did not correct the failures and the vehicle continued to stall. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failures. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.

8 Engine Failure problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

"takata recall" in addition to this recall, I have 2 outstanding recalls with a refusal to work on a misfire and engine issues. My car has shut down with no warning on the road, misfiring with no warning, and no information on these common engine failures was given to me. No proof has been given of issues and am being forced into purchasing a new engine. I have been refused all help and have been waiting about a month for answers.

10 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

Travelled from CT to marathon, FL, arriving after noon. Within sight of the hotel destination the engine began to break down and run rough. I also smelled smoke. I managed to get to the hotel parking lot before the engine quit altogether. A local shop diagnosed the problem as two cylinder misfires and failed igniton coils. 57 mi from the dealer in key west and over 100 mi from miami, I elected to have a local ase certified shop replace the coils. Reflashing the pcm showed a new set of codes and that the pcm was failed and needed to be replaced. According to machado Ford in miami, there were no pcms in Ford's inventory in all of the us. Searched for remanufactured pcms was fruitless as well. Finally contacted armstrong Ford in homestead and they said they could fix the car. $996. 56 to the shop in big pine key. Transported the car to homestead on fri 2/21. Monday the dealer had located a pcm and replacement was completed under warranty Tuesday afternoon. I picked up the car on Wednesday and left for jacksonville in the afternoon. 120 mi north in jupitor, the engine failed again. We sat on the side of the FL turnpike's 70 mph traffic until we could have the car transported to mullinax Ford in west palm, arriving after the service dept had closed. The next day I learned that all three catylic converters were plugged and needed replacement. Two converters were available and were replaced on 2/28. The third converter was back ordered with an expected availablility of 3/31. Since the remaining unit had discharged its contents into the tailpipe and was discarded, I was able to drive back to CT. Tasca Ford in berlin CT is still waiting for the replacement converter after numerous extensions of delivery dates from Ford. The Ford customer serv rep refuseds to return my calls. My total out of pocket expenses exceed $4000 to date.

11 Engine Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/27/2013

While accelerating on the highway at approximate. 65 mph on 27jun13, at 1745, the 2011 Ford Fusion sel lost all acceleration. We pulled over to the right hand shoulder, put the vehicle in park, and turned it off. We waited a moment, restarted then engine, and proceeded to merge with traffic. Less than two miles later, the same thing happened. We pulled over again, turned off engine and waited a moment. We restarted it and drove it home. Friday 5 jul13 the car went to kolwaski Ford in avon lake OH. The reprogrammed the pcm for the rough shift of the transmission. We picked up the car, and less than 4 miles from the deals hip we had the repairs done, we experienced the same issue of lost acceleration. We called the dealership's service department, and advised the same engine failure occurred. While driving back to the dealerships, the engine once again lost power at an intersection. The car is currently at the service center of kolwaski Ford in avon lake OH.

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Traveling at freeway speed, engine suddenly lost all power and reverted to idle rpm. Engine was idling roughly, and pressing on accelerator would not increase rpms. The "wrench" (check engine) light was illuminated. Was able to coast downhill to exit freeway; very unsafe condition. Switched off engine, restarted engine . . . And it ran normal; "wrench" light extinguished. Took car to walnut creek Ford following morning; they said no fault code was recorded on the cars computer and they could not replicate problem. Service rep told me Ford had no records of any previous problems of this nature, so I should just keep driving the car. I told him that was unsafe, and he replied there was nothing else he could do. He said he "could not just throw parts at an unknown problem"'. Same problem occurred on Nov 01, 2012. I did an on-line search on various Ford Fusion forums and found multiple reports of this same situation with v6 engine attributed to throttle body housing. Immediately took car to walnut creek Ford and told service manager I would not accept the car until it was repaired. Showed him copies of multiple on-line reports of same problem and told him his rep had lied during my previous visit about Ford not knowing of any previous reported problems. Service manager replied that "on-line reports are not always real", but said he would have his best mechanic check my car. Mechanic found defective throttle body housing and replaced. Have not had recurrence of the engine failure.

13 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

Engine oil level indicator (dipstick) indicates engine oil level ok even if very low (dipstick tube is also a drain for overhead cam body). Engine low oil shutdown also did not occur. This results in driver operating a vehicle that can have catastrophic engine failure at highway speeds leaving vehicle with no propulsion, power steering, power brakes and unable to navigate to a safe location and may also generate metallic engine debris on roadway posing a hazard to other drivers. A local dealer also indicated a vehicle operating under this condition could burst into flames.

14 Engine Failure problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/18/2011

I own a v6 2010 Ford Fusion and on two separate occassions, while driving on the highway at approximate speeds of 65 mph the engine has stalled without warming. At the time the engine stalls, a service light will come on and the car completely shuts down. In both instances, the car could be restarted, and the service light dissapeared upon restart. We have taken it to the dealership after both incidents, and they are unable to identify a fix as the service code is not being stored in events of engine failure (and the light is not staying on after restart). This is an extremely dangerous situation as it has happened without warning, while travelling on major highways at high speeds. I have seen entries from other owners on both the nhsta site and other blogs siting the same problem, yet Ford is unwilling to accept that this is a pervasive problem and is not working to find a solution. We have escalated from the dealership up to the corporate Ford customer service department with no success.

15 Engine Failure problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

1. Engine threw a rod resulting in catastrophic engine failure July 10, 2009: while traveling the i805 s in san diego, CA, the vehicle engine exploded without warning causing loss of vehicle control. No warning lights were illuminated, there were no noises, nothing to indicate what was about to happen. I was heading to work at approximately 1pm, with cruise control set to 65mph, when I began to near my freeway interchange. It's an area where two freeways meet and merging traffic is moving much slower. Cruise control was disengaged and the vehicle gradually began to slow from 65mph. Merging traffic was trying to move right to left and I was trying to move left to right; once I saw my opening, I pressed the accelerator pedal to speed up. Instantly there was a loud explosion and the vehicle jolted. My first reaction was that I had been rear ended or hit by another vehicle. The vehicle began to 'buck' and threw itself into the lane to it's right. Smoke was billowing out from under the hood and bottom of the vehicle. The interior hvac system pulled smoke into the passenger compartment during this time. I managed to brake and move to the shoulder, during this time there were bursts of power and then deceleration. When the vehicle was finally under control, my next thought moved to the fire danger it posed to the surrounding freeway embankment and residential areas above. I allowed the vehicle to coast down the home Ave exit ramp and parked it in the center of home Ave. I literally leapt from the vehicle and ran to pull my school and work material from the trunk. I attempted to call 911 6 times before giving up and calling my work manager. He was able to get through to 911 dispatchers that eventually sent a firetruck. 2. Failure happened once 3. Ford replaced entire engine assembly and miscellaneous damaged components.
