1 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/14/2021

Had been shopping all day, with no indication of a problem. Stopped to gas up vehicle and put the gear shifter in park, then removed the key (no warning or indicator there was a problem). Before exiting the vehicle, when releasing the brake pedal, the car started to roll forward. Brake pedal was immediately pressed again, before possibly colliding with another vehicle parked in front of my vehicle. I put the key back into the ignition to attempt to start the vehicle and it would not start. I looked at the gear indicator and it stated the car was in reverse, but the shifter was in park. Gear shifter override did not change the indicator on the dash either. Vehicle was able to roll forward and backward with gravity or pushing. I kept on the emergency brake and upon inspection of the engine compartment by the mechanic with the tow company, it was discovered that the gear shift cable had disconnected. Reconnection was attempted, but it would not stay connected. There is a current recall for this exact problem, but my VIN number was not included in the recall.

2 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/19/2021

On February 19, 2021. After backing my 2014 Ford Fusion into a parking space. I went to shift it into park. The lever shifted all the way forward as if it were in park. I turned off the car and because the car was on a slight incline it began to roll. I hit the brake and looked to see if I was indeed in park. The shifter was all the way forward but the display showed as if the car was in reverse. I tried to start the car. It would not start. I could not move the shifter out of park. I tried several times to remove the car from park. I could not. After checking youtube to see if anyone else had the same problems I checked on current recalls. There is a current recall on alike vehicles with the same problem I am having. . Read more...

3 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

Ii had recall 19v362000 power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:floor shift done on this car I cannot remember or find the date. I never had a problem with the shifter before the recall was done. On Monday Nov 2 2020 my wife had the car she stopped at a gas station parked the car and got out. The car rolled into a curb. She checked and the shifter was in park. The engine would not start, she called me and I looked at the shifter cable was detached from the trans shifter arm. The bushing was still on the shifter linkage at the trans. I perchesed a new bushing part "dg9z-7k340-a. I instaled the new bushing as per the recall instructions. I am concerned this recall did not fix the problem, and may have made it worse. I still have the old bushing if you are interested in seeing it I will send it to you. Thank you taylor '.

4 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/10/2020

I was moving my car into park as I was pulling into my parking spot and the car went into park with the floor shift and on the dashboard but the car was still in reverse. The floor shirt was stuck and the car was rolling backwards so I put the parking break on. When looking under the hood I noticed the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission was detached from the transmission. The bushing appears to have been degraded to the point where it could not reattach so I left the parking break on and will need to tow the car. I looked it up and based on my car's manufactured plant, timing, and model there was a recall for this but when I search my VIN it is not coming up so I am wondering if this was missed.

5 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

2016 Fusion was in park turned off, started as normal, put it in r to back out of a parking spot, pressed break pedal to shift into d but my vehicle got stuck in r then shut off on its own. Put my shifter in p but the light on my dash still reflected that it was in r throwing the error message "transmission not in park", along with other random error msgs, exp: stabilitrac, traction control, advancetrac, engine hot (it was not),put transmission in p to start/stop, etc. My backup camera was stuck in reverse camera mode being the tranny is stuck in reverse. Ebrake worked fine so I engaged that to keep car from rolling. I removed the center counsel, cupholder and shift casings to try the red manuel shift lever that is under the shift mechanism to make sure it was in fact I'm park, it was. Tried starting it while in the neutral position- nothing. Thought maybe it was the "brain" so I disconnected battery, let sit for 20min to clear out and reset- nothing. Researched online for a minute found quickly other 2016 Fusion owners having the same problem and it being the recall of the: power train: automatic transmission: lever and linkage: floor shift. Ford motor company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles equipped with 2. 5 liter engines. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in park. My husband replaced the #1 bushing and that fixed it. You need a clamp/press to correctly lock it in place so I had to drive home with it showing in park yet in drive, keeping it in drive not using reverse or park until I got to my destination to install correctly. Clearly recall warranted but not showing for my VIN when searched.

6 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

On 05/24/19 I got in my car as I was leaving my work, it would not start and kept giving me a message that the transmission was not on park. I released the handbrake and the car simply rolled back. After seeing that the shifter didn't work we searched on google and found that the shifter cable has a plastic bushing that breaks and renders the shifter useless. It is a common problem in the Fusion and there are many videos showing how to fix it. We went to o'reilly and bought a universal bushing kit. After 2 hours we finally fixed the car. It happened again on 06/02/19 which led me to search more about the problem and found this: recall number 18v471000 recall date 07/16/2018 power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:floor shift summary Ford motor company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in park, with no warning message or audible chime. Consequence if the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash. What owners should do Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 20, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18s20. Note: owners are directed to use the parking brake until the recall remedy repairs can be made. This is exactly what my car has and after calling Ford they say my car in not part of this recall and can't help me.

7 Manual Transmission Floor Shifter problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

I removed my ignition key from the car after parking and putting the shifter into the park position, but the car began rolling backwards. I had to immediately apply the emergency brake to stop my car from hitting another car. I researched online and discovered that there was a recall issued on my year make and model car for the exact same problem that I am having. However, I contacted Ford and they indicated that there is no current recall on my car for this issue, and yet my car was manufactured during the time of the noted defects. Please see recall information found online below: power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:floor shift summary Ford motor company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford escape, and 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles, equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions.
