Ford Fusion owners have reported 15 problems related to noises during shifting (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the Fusion.
While in drive the transmission started making weird noises, and all of the sudden the gear shifting sounded off. This all happened on the interstate at about 70mph. After parking the car and trying to put it into reverse or drive the transmission was failing, the shifter slid into any position. The transmission has to be replaced or rebuilt, it's over 3k to repair.

If my car sits at idle for too long like stuck in traffic or waiting at a drive thru the maintenance light comes on and it will not shift. The rpms rev up but it acts like it is stuck . It won't move over a few mph. Then if you shift it into neutral it makes a loud noise and the whole car jerks like the transmission is about to fall out. I shut the car off and started it again and it will not shift right. You can floor the gas and it barely moves then it will come out of it and drive fine until you have to sit idle again. It is very dangerous and I have tried everything to fix it at multiple mechanics shops and nothing works. Have changed multiple sensors and it always seems to happen again. 07.

My car when put into drive would make a clunking noise and lunge forward, also when up shifting and down shifting it would be harsh and clunk. I took it the Ford dealer and they said I needed a rebuilt transmission put in at a price of $5490, because the one in it had to many problems and would cost more to fix then the rebuilt one, so that's what I did the car only had 71438 miles on it.

Knocking noise when pressing gas pedal to put car in motion. Knocking noise when shifting from drive to reverse and vise versa (no gas). Knock when accelerating after rounding a turn. Noise is light enough that it is mostly discernible when there is low road noise, such as beginning from a stop or when in electric mode.

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was parked, the contact experienced difficulty shifting the gear from park into reverse and the vehicle began to hesitate. On another occasion, while driving 30 mph and approaching a stop sign, the vehicle turned off, but was able to restart after several attempts. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to respond initially. The contact heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle began to drive normally. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 148,000.

2016 Ford Fusion. Consumer writes in regards to problems with their transmission. The consumer stated the vehicle made a whopping/whinning noise when shifting. The consumer no longer owns the vehicle. *s.
There has been many issues with the front end of my car. Both struts have been replaced at 22,000 miles. The sway bar link was also replaced. I am now at 23,000 miles experiencing a noise like a ball joint clunking in the passenger front and the dealerships cannot figure out what is making the noise. I have brought it to 2 separate dealerships for a synopsis. Still nothing. Also, the transmission shifts very rough and slams into the next gear from 2-3. I purchased this car from sport automotive used cars on October 2017. Ever since nothing but issues. Very dissatisfied with this vehicle. Especially since Fords have always been purchased in my family.

There is a defect in the wiper and/or windshield design - it is extremely hard to see when it is raining, even just moderately raining, and even with the wiper speed on high. I can't tell if the wipers are too slow, if the angle of the windshield promotes water retention, or if the problem is with the wiper mechanism design (instead of going the same direction, the wipers start in the middle and go separate directions to the outside edge). Furthermore, every time the wipers make a pass there appears to be a film on the glass that takes a few seconds to clear ¿ it looks splotchy, and isn¿t affected by temp/defrost at all. At night when passing another car or under street lights this makes a terrible glare, and of course the faster your wipers are going, the more "film" there will be because there's no time for it to clear between passes. I bought this car with 16 miles on it and noticed it the very first time I had to drive in the rain (I'm now at 7500 miles). Between the inadequate prevention of water accumulation and the strange film, this car is very dangerous to drive in the rain, especially at night. Beyond this, I have noticed for quite a while that the exhaust/muffler makes a loud vibration noise, and at times the transmission shifts very hard when applying brakes (downshift) or when first accelerating.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 65 mph, the transmission slipped when shifted into second or third gear. In addition, the contact mentioned that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,000.
Hello I have a 2010 Ford Fusion I was driving to get on highway to merge left. When I accelerated I was at 55 mph when the car suddenly down shifted I took my foot off the gas and then proceeded to accelerate again slowly. Not to say a car almost hit me from behind because of the downshift problem. It also happens when I start from a stopped position I accelerate and it makes a loud noise and downshifts then the transmission kicks in. Please recall these cars before someone gets killed.
The vehicle began shifting erratically when slowing to a stop, with higher than normal rpm range. After getting back up to speed, the transmission made a loud noise and felt as if it had fallen out from under the car. Problem still exists, and now shifting from second to third gear, and third to fourth gear are delayed and some times make the car feel like it may not shift. After seeing that there have been multiple complaints about the problem, I believe this is something Ford needs to look into further.
Started with very loud sounds coming form the car - thought it was the front end. Took it to Ford in paso robles, CA they could find nothing wrong. Transmission failure began with faulty shifting - check engine light came on. Contacted Ford immediately they set my apt time 4 days later - I had to park my car until I was able to take it in. The transmission had to be replaced on 5/29/2014. It is now 4/1/15 and the same noises are coming back and I expect the transmission to have to be replaced again very soon.

When new, vehicle exhibited harsh shifts from 1-2. Gradually worsened and came to include a soft 2-3 shift and a metallic friction noise in lower gears by 1000mi. Starting around 7000mi, vehicle started to shift erractially in traffic between 1-2 and 2-1, with a sudden and moderately violent lurch forwards during shifting. Vehicle was difficult to control in low-speed (primarily acceleration following any period of coasting) scenarios and required additional following distance to account for this. Vehicle became must harsher on the 1-2 shift in cold weather. By 8000-9000mi, vehicle developed slipping. This was particularly evident at lower speeds from 2-3, such as at a rolling yield below 10mph. Vehicle would momentarily lose almost all power during certain 2-3 shifts, requiring acceleration planning for intersections, to prevent sluggishness at an inopportune time. TSB 12-3-7 was applied and resulted in additional slippage in higher gears, such that climbing an onramp following a 3-4 shift was challenging, and climbing a hill at low speeds during a 2-3 shift resulted in a loss of all forward momentum.
2006 Ford Fusion sel v6 automatic transmission
when trying to accelerate to enter the highway my car jerked violently when it slammed itself into gear it made a very loud noise when it shifted. I almost lost control of my vehicle. I took the car to a dealership to repair they said it was the throttle body and I have it replaced. Less than 30 minutes of leaving the dealership it did it again . I had the dealership pick up the car because of the defective transmission and now they agree it needs to be replaced. However, I did further research and I have found that many consumers have the same complaint as mine and their are many sights available. Why hasn't Ford recalled this transmission. To ad more salt in my wound my insurance company is choosing to use a used 2006 transmission from 2006 Ford Fusion sel with 48,000 miles on it and to top it off the car tat this transmission is coming from was t-boned and totalled thanks geico so now im not a the mercy or Ford but geico so now I have to get rid of my car because I am scared that his will occur again. If someone would just google Ford Fusion 2006 sel violently jerking. . You will see thousands of people having the same issue.

I have a Ford Fusion with about 30000 miles. I first noticed a hard shift at 10k miles and thought maybe its just a simple fix. I took it in and they reprogrammed the transmission and the service supervisor said that this transmission adapts to the owners driving habits. Well 3k miles later its worse so I take it back and the tech said all the clutches were replaced and two other things were done! I have taken it back four more times and have not had it fixed. It appears that Ford admitted there was a problem with a transmission code that fixes the problem. However, the problem was not fixed and I am left with a vehicle that also had a window motor replaced, some pulleys that were making a whistling noise, and a battery and taillight that went out changed. I don't know if its a lemon, but I smell disaster in the next couple of years! wish Ford would do the right thing and stand by its product.
