Steering assist fault light came on as I was driving and I was not able to steer the car I had to pull over and stop. When I restarted the car the steering was working. I was very hesitant to drive the car, my husband drove the the car to the Ford dealer and we were informed during the inspection the steering gear was failing internaly and they recommend replacement. Apparently, I am 5 months out of the 15n01 safety recall. I am wondering why such a dangerous safety recall would have a time limit? my Ford Fusion came from the hermosillo assembly plant during the 9-7-2010 thru 2-28-2012. I missed recall due to the 10 years of warranty start date of the vehicle. This seems like a recall that should not expire. I see numerous complaints from other owners of Ford Fusion with same complaint. If Ford was able to narrow down the cars and the plants they came from, I feel they should be responsible to fix them regardless of milage or expiration of recall. They still pose a risk of harm or fatality due to accidents.

The steering assist light came on and the power steering to the car quit working. This could have caused a collision because I was unable to steer the car. 2011 through 2015 has been recalled due to this problem but my car is a 2010 with the same part not recalled.

I was pulling out from my parking spot (parallel parked) when all of a sudden the steering wheel jerked out of my hands and the electric power assist light popped on. I was on a side street beginning to accelerate after pulling out into traffic. Had I been going faster, it easily could have created a wreck. When the wheel jerked, I slammed my brakes on. I turned the vehicle off then on, and the light popped off. I re-parked it because I was afraid to drive it, and before re-parking, the light was back on. I found this is a common problem and looked on line (Ford recall #15s18, NHTSA #15v340000). When I contacted the dealership to schedule repair, I was told that my VIN was outside of the recall range, even though it did indeed fail the same way these others failed. Because it was outside of the range, I would be financially responsible for this known design failure that resulted in a near miss accident. I've not taken it in for repair yet, hoping this recall is widened to the appropriate range for the same failure. I understand it's costly, but finding out this problem was a known problem that they didn't properly identify points of containment made me angry.

Power steering assist fault light starting showing up in my dash, once in a while, over the last two months. Normally, I would turn car off and back on and everything would be fine. Two days ago, after parking, I turned car off. When I went to go turn car back on, the light showed up and steering wheel locked. So I turned car off and back on but this time, the steering wheel stayed locked and error messaged remained on. I tried it today and it is still in the same condition. The car will start but steering wheel won't move.
I put a new battery in my car and when I started it the power steering assist fault light came on. I turned it off and did this two more times and it started and the power steering assist fault light went off. I went to work and in the morning I started it and the power steering assist fault light came back on. I turned it off and on a couple more times, but it wouldn't go off. I got it home and there it sits.

A few weeks after having recealls performed for the steering and airbag issues, I was driving on the freeway and got a warning light(attached) that said "steering fault service now". The steering bacame slightly sticky but still drivable. After reacbing my destination and restarting my car, I then received the same fault light as well as traction control, and airbag lights. I have had zero issues with this vehicle as long as I've owned it prior to it being at the dealer for the recalls. The steering was now almosy inopperable and required alot of strength to make any turn left or right. While luckily the steering got very bad on side streets, this could have resulted in some serious injury or problems if it happened on the highway I feel. This vehicle is just only 4 years old and I have a hard time believing that the steering mechanism should be faulty already. I unfortunately do not have warranty on this part of the vehicle so I am now left with a $2500 bill to repair a sealed rack and pinion assembly that doesn't (to my knowledge) require any maintenace. Hopefully there are enough of this issues to warrant an investigation and possible recall. Thank you,.

Went to store when I got back in car the power steering assist warning light came on then it said service . When I went to drive there was no power steering.
While in motion, the vehicles powered steering gave out - with the failure of service advanced track. Turning the wheel becomes nearly impossible - it's extremely dangerous. Often, before the service advance track failure, when starting up the car, if I started turning it would flash a warning related to the steering - I have to wait about 5 seconds before turning. I've told various mechanic shops about this issue (when intermittent) and they were been unable to diagnose it. Since I purchased the vehicle years ago, I noticed that the steering leans slightly to the right. The service advance track failure has occurred once in the past and the resolution was quite expensive / unwieldy ($2k) - it involved replacing the axle, amongst other components, that were damaged because of the steering issues. This occurring twice, in both cases while driving the vehicle (possibly under highway conditions), has been exceedingly worrisome & stressful. In an instant, turning requires a tremendous amount of effort - I am certain, in some situations, this sudden steering failure would have resulted in horrendous accidents. The first time the service advanced track failure occurred: restarting the vehicle allowed it to become drivable - enough that I could bring it to various mechanics. I believe I was told I could replace basically the entire steering system, for an exorbitant price, but, the mechanics could not even guarantee it would fix anything. This time, it was wholly undrivable. . Now that this has occurred a second time, I have absolutely no confidence that the electric steering in this vehicle is safe - it genuinely worries me that this vehicle is on the road. Unless Ford can wholly diagnose, recall and fix this issue, I will be selling the vehicle and buying a new one - for my safety, my passengers safety & the safety of other drivers on the road.
My daughter was driving on highway I-45 when she encountered some snow. The steering assist light, the tire pressure light and advance trac light came on. Power was lost to the steering wheel making it extremely hard for here to steer the vehicle. The fault maybe a wheel sensor or some other component causing this to happen. I really don't know. Luckily no one was injured and no police was involve.

On Jan 7th and 8th I noticed when I started my car the steering wheel would jerk once then stop. Both days I drove it and I had no other issues. On Jan 9th when I started my car there was no jerk, but later that night when I was going to the store I pulled out and the steering wheel got really hard to turn almost causing me to hit another car and then the power steering assist fault light came on. I ended up just parking it in front of my house since I was too scared to drive it and didn't know what was going on with my car. I didn't drive it that Sunday or Monday. Tuesday I had no choice but to drive it to work and it was a pain, but that evening when I got off and started my car the steering wheel jerked twice and everything was back to normal and I could turn with ease. The next day it was still fine, but Thursday morning the same thing happens. The steering wheel jerked and the warning came back up and has been on since then. I've read so many complaints online about people have the same issue with this year and model and all are wondering why there hasn't been a recall on it.
When I started car the power steering assist fault light lit up as well as service advance trac light, power steering didn't work, could barely turn the wheel. Went to work and when I tried again later that day, fault lights didn't light and steering was normal. Unfortunately the same problem came on and again tried later in day but both fault lights lit up, and steering was next to impossible. Got an estimate from mechanic for a $2000 repair, said the steering assembly/electric motor needs to be replaced, car has 106000 miles. Fusions and Mercury mkz'sof similar years but not 2010's were recalled, don't understand why.

My power steering assist fault light came on my car. I turned it off and back on and it went off and everything seemed fine. This morning I get in my car to come work and the power steering assist fault light came on. I had to have my car towed to the Ford dealership because it wasn't driveable and then was told that they had no vehicles to loan to us to drive. Unacceptable in our book!.

My car has been absolutely fine for the most part until about 4 weeks ago , while I was driving the low tire pressure light came on, so I went and aired up the tires, the low tire pressure light went off but then the service power steering light and advance tire traction appeared at this time im pulling back into my drive way, then I came out my house a few hours to leave and the stirring wheel was locked I tried to drive it and now the strring wheels goes to the right I never had this issue before let alone any warning signs . . I looked into recalls with Ford and it showed my 2011 Ford Fusion had recalls for whats going on, so I called a Lincoln Ford dealership that said bring it in they kept my car for a week and when I picked it up nothing was fixed on it and they had no paperwork to give me the show they fixed it so I returned my car the very next day because when I drove off it was still doing exactly the same thing but worse so now they've had my car for a week and they called me this morning to tell me my car has been doing the same exact thing and it is the wire harness that needs to be fixed and it's not under the recall but it is part of the power steering so I don't get it.
The power steering has been going in and out for weeks. In the past two weeks, every time I start the car, the power steering fault error lights up on my dashboard and I cannot move my steering wheel until I turn off my vehicle and start the car again. Today, I attempted to start my car 5 times, the power steering error message showed each time, and I was never able to move my steering wheel. After waiting several hours, I was able to move my car. Since the issue has now grown to be this severe, I'm fearful that the power steering is now going to go out while I'm driving.
The power steering is not working at all and the power steering light is on. . In the past,, thetraction control system would go out on occasion and thr tcs warning light would appear, but the tcs would start to work after a few minutes. This time, the power steering is completely shot and the repair shop is stating the power steering sensor and steering column will need to be replaced. This occurred while my son was driving the car in a parking lot.
