Since the first time that bought the car appeared twice in three months at the moment of starting the car: assistance steering power failure. Then turning off the car and start again would go off and run normal. However today appeared and nothing worked. After one hour trying to make it work we never could. So, we had to call the towing service and go home. I’ve checked the recall but nothing appears under my VIN number that has to do with this problem.

The power steering has sporadically failed twice within the past month while driving at low speed (once at a gas station, another while making a right turn at a stop sign). The incident with the stop sign almost caused a collision because I was unable to turn the steering wheel. I immediately turned on my hazard lights and drifted to a curb across the street. Turning the vehicle off and back on restores power to the steering wheel. The steering wheel is near impossible to turn when the power fails. I took it to the Ford dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they stated I needed a new steering rack. They asked for ~$1500 to replace the steering rack (I declined). I researched recalls on the 2011 Ford Fusion and found that there was a recall for steering failure. Unfortunately, my vehicle's VIN is not included in that recall.
While coming off the highway my hill start assist, advanced tract, and steering failed. I almost lost control of the car. Also, the linkage for the shifter keeps coming undone.

Steering quit working , almost wrecking. This is the second time electric steering has failed on this car. 2007, 08,09, 11, 12 have had recalls for the same issue. This car was built in 2009 it's definitely a safety issue and needs to be addressed, over 1600. 00 repair a couple of years ago.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel became loose. Additionally, the steering wheel failed to turn left or right. There were no warning lights illuminated the vehicle was towed to west hills Ford (1100 oyster bay Ave s, bremerton, wa 98312, (360) 616-3277). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.
2015 Ford Fusion with 85,000 miles had steering gear fail. Vehicle already had recall for corrosion on steering box bolts. Steering gears are built for 10/12/15 years and this failed in under 6 years. This is unacceptable. My son was driving and the power steering shut down and the vehicle drives as if it doesn't have power steering. The tsc off and tsc indicator lights are lit up on the dash.

While driving and making a right hand turn, received "power steering assist fault" alarm and steering failed to a "manual" mode. The wheel was very difficult to turn. It is very possible that an accident would have happened had this occurred in traffic. Research has identified recalls on the 2011 and 2012 eps(electric/electronic power steering), but not the 2010 Fusion. My Fusion only has 96,000 miles on it. This will be a costly out of pocket repair for a system that has been proven to be a safety concern on other vehicles.
My vehicle was parked in front of my house (thank god) and when I started it, 3 alarms came on and I was not able to move the steering wheel. Had this happened while I was driving, I would most certainly been in an accident. The issue is the entire electronic steering system failed. Whole component needs to be replaced. Exactly one year to the day after the last electrical failure.

The steering gear failed for the second time at 113000 miles. Cost for replacement and four ball joints was $2000. 00. Some ball joints replaced at approx 70000 miles and steering gear replaced under recall at approx 93000 miles. It only lasted 20000 miles. Online it looks like Ford has had this problem for a number of years. The last time iit failed it was in motion. When is the NHTSA going to force the repair of this item?.
I was driving on expressway with my kids. When the steering wheel lock up mid driving and I couldnt control the wheel very dangerous. Especially happening on the expressway with my children aboard. Worst could have happen but thank god I was able to Dodge an car an slow down to I stop an turn on hazzer lights and break. I couldnt turn the wheel at all it was very scary experience. It was displaying messages pwer steering failure and one other message. I tried turning car off and turning it back on but that didnt work. I had to get the car towed to Ford dealership in union city, GA. Where they found out it was the pwersteering system that failed costing $2600 in repairs that I didnt have and I needed my car for work. So I had to come up with the money to fix an repair that shouldnt have happen. My kids and I could have been killed. This happen June 2020 I have called several times sudmitted documents of repairs and reciepts. Still no world on adding it to the recall list to save others knowning this has been an major issue in these cars as well as I was told that you all would reimburse me for repairs. Still no word yet and its been a year. Someone please help.

I stopped at turnpike rest stop. When I started the car, a "service power steering now" light was ulliminated (see attached image) and the steering was not working properly. I was unable to back the car out of the parking space due to the need to make a hard turn to the left or right. The car was towed to a local Ford dealership and the car will be evaluated on Monday. I checked my car's VIN online and no recalls are shown. However, my online research reveals that is a power steering recall (or similar warranty item) issued in 2015 (#15v340000). I see many, many reports of this same steering failure on 2012 Ford Fusion models with owners reporting a failure of Ford to cover the problem despite this being a known (and potentially dangerous) failure since at least 2015. What steps are being taken to require Ford to repair all affected vehicles? many complaints posted on this site allege the manufacture refused to repair the consumer's 2012 Fusion, despite the obvious known and widespread dangerous issue.
Steering power assist failure when starting the car, putting the transmission into reverse and begin backing the car out, the steering power assist failure notification displays and the vehicles steering is disabled. Although currently occuring only when backing up, I consider this car as unsafe as it seems it could just as easily occur when on the freeway.

4 times in the past month, my vehicle has experienced a loss of power steering assist while in motion which causes the steering wheel to lock and I am unable to turn. While this is happening, the car beeps and a light comes on the dashboard that says something like steering wheel assist failure or power steering assist. This has occured 4 times and is very dangerous as I am unable to turn the wheel to turn the vechiel to the side of the road for safety. The car is in motion all while the steering wheel shuts down. This will end up causing an accident one day. I have reviewed my VIN and I do not see an active recall for this, however when inputing my car information, it shows that there was a recall for the same issue for cars: 2012 Ford Fusion and I believe my car should have been part of this recall. All 4 times that it has happened, the car was in motion, in a city street while turning the wheel to make a turn. Although I do not have a picture to show at the moment, next time it happens I will have one should you contact me and need an image of what is occuring.
. Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle the massage "steering assist failure" had displayed and the steering wheel was difficult to turn in either direction. While driving my children to school, and already getting close to the drop off location (inside the school and where children already walking throughout the parking lot) the steering wheel locked up making it impossible to steer while my car was in motion. Luckily I was just traveling at about 5mph, and there was nobody inform of my at the time and I did not run over any one. When this happened, a message came on the dashboard that read something about steering failure. I had to drive up to a safe location where I left my vehicle parked and had to call someone to pick me up. This is my wife's car but on this day I took my kids to school. Had it been her driving or if I or her were traveling at a higher speed I fear there would have been a very different outcome.

My 18 year old daughters 2010 Ford Fusion went in to a steering failure mode while in motion on a highway on her way home from school. The vehicles steering was inoperable for several miles and she was able to force the wheel with no power to make 3 turns to get to our home in the country. The message and fault cleared when the vehicle was turned off and restarted the next morning. It has happened 5-6 more times over the past month. I have taken her out of the vehicle in fear she will be involved in a serious accident.
