The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. While driving less than 25 mph, the steering wheel seized. The contact had to restart the vehicle approximately four times before the steering wheel would work properly. In addition, the warning indicators on the steering wheel illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that there were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was 72,880.

My 2011 Ford Fusion's steering wheel completely gave out on me while driving on a highway in July of 2015. Extremely dangerous situation. Dealership informed me of an open recall and replaced the whole steering rack pursuant to Ford recall number 15s18. Fast forward three years later -- last Friday, also while driving, my steering wheel failed and almost caused a crash. Exact same errors. Contacted two different dealerships, as well as Ford, and all said they can't do anything about it -- that I would have to pay $2300+ to get it replaced. How can the steering rack fail me twice in three years? how does Ford get away with making this a one time recall and doing nothing when the same thing happens again? it's absolutely absurd and horrifying. No car - especially not one that is a relatively newer model - just randomly has a steering rack failure in the middle of a highway. If I had crashed, I am guessing Ford would have paid for the replacement.

The power steering assist fault message appeared in the odometer display. This could not be reset by turning off the ignition for 10 seconds and turning on the ignition again. This message has been intermittent for 6 months. It would appear often with first start up on rainy and rainy on cold days. Never occurred while driving. I drove the car to a local repair shop. The steering takes a great effort to turn the wheel. Had a near miss accident with wood trash on the highway. The repair shop said this could be covered by an extended recall. The Ford dealers we called said their system was down not able to check VIN for recall. It has about 83000 miles and 6 years old. The steering failure is a significant safety defect. I've driven cars before without power steering - easy compared to this fail. This failure is extremely unsettling feeling when trying to make a curve or turn. Check back later to see if Ford repaired this.

Steering wheel had to be replaced at 68k miles, due to having been made of inferior materials, became a hazard in 3 days and was advised to not drive the vehicle due to the fact that the steering wheel could fail in emergency driving situations.

Takata recall & steering failure I have a 2011 Ford Fusion on which the steering suddenly failed, without any warning, while driving. Thankfully the failure occurred close to our home and my wife was able to make it home without incident. I've been doing research online and learned that this is a common problem. While Ford has issued a recall for some later models, they are not covering all viechles with the same part. I am contacting you to raise awareness that the problem still exists and is still impacting people. I have owned many cars that are much older and have never had a complete steering loss. I also want to let you know that we are still waiting for resolution of the takata airbag recall. The recall was issued by Ford in July of 2016. We have continued to drive the car with the promise by Ford that the car is safe, however, as I continue to read about incidents online, realize that may not be the case. After all, if it were safe there wouldn't have been a recall. My wife has gotten to the point where she doesn't want to drive the car for concerns for her safety. I feel this is unacceptable and am asking for your help to hold Ford accountable 1. Accept responsibility for the steering issue and the risk it posses and extend the racall to all affected viechles 2. Expedite the repair on the airbag recall thank you!.

Luckily I had enough space on the road, and the strength to move the wheel. On a separate note, the right suspension/spring thing, makes a clinking sound at slow speeds when turning or tuning the wheel. Has been happening for about 6 months before I figured out the source of the noise. I haven't brought it up to Ford service dept yet.

I found a recall on the bolts for this box and the associate at the dealership told us that this has happened many times on these cars and while driving. Luckily this was not the case for us but I feel it should be reviewed for possible defect and recall.
