Steering Is Tight Problems of Ford Fusion - part 1

Advancetrac came on and also service power steering now came up steering is now hard I check the recalls on this site yesterday went to a Ford dealer the said their where no recalls I came home and refreshed the page an now it says that theirs 0 recalls. . I am unaware of what's going on. . . Please get back to me this is my only vehicle I have to get to work. . . . Steering is hard n it's a hassle drive it.

I was on my way to work and the steering wheel was hard to turn. Then it locked up while I was driving and the light came on saying service advancetrac now and I had to park the vehicle before I wrecked because it took all I had to turn the wheel also whle driving straight I had to jerk the wheel back to the left because it started veering to the right.

Power steering assist fault. No power steering while driving. We were leaving the doctors office and when we started the car the power steering warning came on and the steering wheel was very hard to turn.

I turned the car on and in the left hand side of the dash it read service power steering then the light went off. Didn't come on again for 24 hours then this morning and 3/25/2020 I was headed to the dr and when I started the car the steering wheel was tight and the message appeared again so I cut it off and when I started it again it disappeared and has been fine for now. I noticed there were recalls for this issue and when I checked my VIN it said 0 recalls I just bought this car on 11/06/2019. Please help.

The power steering went out in my 2010 Ford Fusion the third day I had it. Yes it was a used vehicle. The steering wheel is very hard to turn(stiff). I seen there was a recall but it wasn't for my vehicle but I have seen how many people have complained about the same issue and nothing is being done! I have seen things all the way back from 2016 about the power steering being faulty and no one will do anything. But when innocent people and children die due to this are you going to feel bad!.

Epas service power steering now light came up. Steering is very tight as if no power steering at all advantrac light also on. Felt different last couple days.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving, the steering wheel was sticking, the power steering warning light illuminated service soon and the traction control warning light also illuminated. The contact also mention while in reversed in the driveway, the steering wheel seized. The contact called woodhouse Ford south dealer, (2288 osage ranch blvd, plattsmouth, ne 68048) and informed the contact that his VIN was not part of a recall. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not part of a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000. Aw.

Steering wheel is hard to steer and a message keeps coming up on the dash saying �service track�.

While I was driving I got a warning message saying that I power steering failure and service advancetrac. My steering wheel was too tight to even a make a turn.

The vehicle displayed a warning message "steering loss stop safety". The steering was not working at the time and I didn't know what do. The steering wheel is very hard to turn it around. It is very dangerous to drive.

The power steering stopped working. For about 1. 5 months when I would turn on the vehicle the dash would notify of a power steering fault and power steering would not work (steering wheel near impossible to move). However, if I turned the car off and back on the fault would go away and power steering would return to normal. Unfortunately now the power steering is permanently not working and the car is no longer safe to drive. Stability control warning also came on immediately after. Extremely glad power steering did not go out while I was driving, it would have likely caused me to crash since steering is so hard to use without power steering. I did some research Ford has a recall for this exact issue for the 2011 and 2012 Fusions but not the 2010 but appears the 2010 is affected by the same defect.

In the morning I turned on my car and the power steering was so hard to move, started getting error messages "power steering assist fault" and "advancetrac". The vehicle was parked where I always park it on the city street. I can't make a normal turn without back up several times to make a good turn. Have to use 2 hands to turn and curves can't make it, have to slow down completely. Took it to the dealer but said it was not fixable due to milage.

My battery died and power assist required, advanced trac & hill assist came on after it was jumped. Now the steering wheel is hard to turn.

While driving on the highway to head home my steering was really hard to turn. The light on the dash read power steering assist fail. Freeking dangerous!!!.

Steering has recall for my same model year and make but Ford says my VIN is not on there recall list, I have had the steering rack replaced 3 times. The steering is electronic so when it breaks or fails the steering is extremely hard and car has swerved out of control. This has happen on city streets, highway and in residential setting. While driving home the steering was extremely hard to control. My wife barely made it to in front of our house without crashing. Thank goodness this was within city streets and not on the highway at higher speeds. I am also a registered lyft driver and can't imagine what the result could have been if the steering had failed during my working for lyft and driving innocent passengers. I turned it in to the dealership, and after having the airbag recall taken care of, they checked the electric power steering system. Informed me that a gear had disintegrated in the motor and the entire mechanism needed to be replaced at a cost of over $2200. 00. In reading about the omission of 2010 vehicles as part of Ford's recall, I think it is obvious they know of an extensive failure in cars between 2008 - 2012 that they are not willing to fix, even when it may result in death or serious injury.

My car, 2010 Ford Fusion sel, was in my driveway when the power steering assist fault lite came on. I was unable to move the car for fear of losing the steering. I did turn the car off and waited and restarted the car and the warning message was gone however after driving it the message reappeared and it seems as though the steering is hard to manage. After looking online, I have noticed several complaints for this same exact thing.

My steering is hard to turn so. E time and my seat. Will not pull up in my car and gas I some time small gas.

The steering wheel is hard to drive and "steering power system" on dashboard.

My vehicle had a recall for my steering wheel. The steering wheel is so hard. No one is willing to help me. I need some answers ! why did they sell me a car with a recall??.

Warning message on dash 'service power steering now" as you are driving down the highway. You can not drive car at all and steering wheel is extremely hard to steer. Had to have towed to dealership. $2100 parts and labor to fix.

Was driving girlfriend to doctor and fix power steering light came on we made it to the appointment and I parked my car and turned it off. . . On returning to my car to leave I tried to pull out parking spot but steering wheel is very hard to turn and is unsafe to drive. . .

Driving on the highway during a turn in the road the power steering stopped working. A check power steering light flashed on the dash, I was unable to turn the wheel and was forced into the ditch. I had my boyfriend come get me and drive the car home he said the steering was 4x harder to turn than a manual steering rack. I looked up the issue online and it came back to 385,000 11-12 Fusions being recalled because of the exact same issue. I called Ford and they claimed this vehicle is not eligible and the cost to fix it would be between 2500-3200 dollars. If this had happened on a busier road multiple people could have been injured and for is negligent to hold responsibility.

While driving a warning message came on the screen ( service power steering now ) I pulled over and turn the car off. When I attempted to continue to dprive the steering wheel was hard to turn. I put the car in park and called aaap for a tow.

October 12,2018 as I'm leaving home around 6:45 am to drop my daughter off at daycare and head to work. The service light comes on for the power steering. The steering wheel is molding hard to turn but not bad enough where I was struggling much. I made it to work as I live about 15away from my daughters daycare. Around 4:50pm est I clocked and tried to leave from work to head home and I could not turn the steering wheel at all. Did some research and found out it's electrical so there's no way for me to just add powering steering fluid. My mechanic was under the impression that all I had to do was purchase a pump. Called Ford and was informed that there is no pump and it's something electrical and you have to take it to Ford for a diagnostic. A lot of people are having this problem and I feel this should be a recall. I saw something online that it is recalled for my specific car but based off my VIN # there is no recall for my vehicle which I find crazy and misleading.

At 119,889 miles on 6/26/2018, I took a Ford Fusion to the dealer after the power steering went out. I was driving the vehicle when a warning flashed across the display that the power steering needed to be serviced immediately, however the power steering was working fine until I turned the engine off. After restarting the engine, the power steering would not function. I took the Ford Fusion to the dealer and the steering gear was replaced and the power steering control module was reprogrammed at no charge. The power steering worked for about 3 months. Once again, while driving the vehicle, a warning to service the power steering immediately flashed across the display, although the power steering still functioned until I turned the engine off. Upon restarting the car, the power steering did not function. On 9/22/2018 and at 124,591 miles, I returned the Ford Fusion to the dealer. I was charged $134. 95 for diagnostics and given an estimate of $1057. 58 to replace the lower control arms and perform an alignment to fix the power steering. The dealer said the bearings had worn out since 9/22/2018, and that the code to fix the power steering was a hard code and the power steering control module could not be reset to fix the issue. The dealer said the bearings were warn out, creating friction in the steering, leading to the power steering control module to shut down the power steering. The dealer said the only fix for the power steering was to replace the lower control arms that included the bearings, then reset the power steering control module.

Loss of power steering. Lights flickered while driving 35 mph, then service advance trac and service power steering message came across dashboard. Drove home and turned off the vehicle and when I turned the vehicle back on same messages appeared and steering wheel is too hard to turn therefore unable to drive.

Yesterday on July 15, 2018 the power steering on my car went out while I was driving to the store. It flashes on the dash to service power steering now. I've see. Online that their was a recall before in 2015 on my car for the power steering but when I went to Ford they said there was no recall. It is completely unsafe to be driving and all sudden the steering wheel is tight and hard to turn!.

Driving my family home, my dashboard displayed a message to "service power steering soon" steering wasn't an immediate problem. . . However, a few hours later, I attempted to drive the vehicle to a mechanic and when I turned the wheel the steering was very hard to do, very stiff. There was also a message that came on the dashboard that said to "service power steering now". I contacted a mechanic & they informed that I could possibly reset the power steering, by just turning the car on and off a few times. However, this method did not work. Computer is having trouble uploading the video.

The dashboard info displays "power assist failure" when stationary (a cold start), either when the key is turned to the on position, or after starting the engine. The steering wheel will require great effort to turn it when this happens. This warning happens now about 1 to 3 times a week. It started at about 74000 miles. Currently the car has 80000 miles. To work around the problem, the ignition is turned to off, turned on again, wait a few seconds, then restart the motor. The steering may feel tight when turned for about 1 second, but will loosen as the power steering works again. The warning has not repeated after restarting. So far, the steering has not failed (become tight) while driving. The warning at start up occurs more frequently in cold or wet weather. The car was last serviced at the Ford dealership at about 72000 miles with the only notice the brakes need service soon. The sync system reports indicate no problems when uploaded to the auto insurance company. It was cold this morning 25 f when the "power assist failure" reoccurred again. After restarting, the warning did not repeat, but steering was stiff about 1 second. I decided to report this. This steering type issue has never occurred in previous cars I have owned. These electric steering systems needs to be banned as a safety issue. Also, they are expensive to repair because it has to be completely replaced.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the power steering failed to function, there was no eps warning indicator each time the failure happened and the steering wheel was extremely tight in either direction. The dealer autonation Toyota pinellas park, 8501 us highway 19 n, pinellas park, FL 33781, (727) 231-1323 inspected the vehicle and had stated that the gear in the steering column and wiring harness may need to be replaced however the vehicle has not been specifically diagnosed yet. The manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was not included in a power steering recall but they had issued a recall for other years same model, provided no assistance and indicated for the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Dyd.
