My power steer went out while driving which caused me to run off road without injury but had one flat tire. Vehicle required towing. Manual steering is to hard to make vehicle drivable. Light on indicating "service power steering". Ford dealership, Ford customer service, and NHTSA states my 2011 Ford Fusion VIN is not included in the 15s18 recall. I attempted to call Ford corporate headquarters in hopes to get them to honor recall for my VIN but they will not answer phone times 2 calls at 313-322-3000, on hold for 13 minutes and 36 minutes. I am gathering data to file a small claim court. I need the a copy of the official NHTSA report concerning 15v340000. I spoke to April on 12/25/17 for NHTSA who informed me that the "manufactures" decide which VIN are included in recall. Also I spoke to briance from Ford customer service to obtain information needed to file court claim: name of ceo, street address, and phone number of Ford headquarters. I was denied information and told, "we are not allowed to give that". Please assist.

On 10/7/17 driving on main roa doing about 45mph and the power steering warning light came on and the action control light. Once turned off the steering was very hard to turn. I called to have recall fixed on 10/11/17. On 10/14/17 power steering went out again. Brought back to dealer on 10/16/17 and they stated the computer needed to be reset and now working fine. I picked up car and drove about 1/2 mile and it went out again. Left at dealer as I was going on vacation. Called on 10/6 or 10/27 and told all fixed and will be ready when I get home. 10/30/17 went to pick up car and told the issue happened again while one of the mechanics was driving it. On 11/2/17 I was told that the left and right lower control arms needed to be replaced. Picked up car on 11/3/17 at cost of $830. On 11/6/17 driving from store power steering went out again. Brought car back to dealer on 11/7/17. Car was brought into the bay to be looked at on 11/9/17 after I called for update. Called again on 11/14/17 but have not heard back yet. I have the documentation on all the work from the dealer in the car.
I was driving in the highway and notice something wrong in the vehicle and then in the front window a message appear saying steering fault service now almost crash in the side concrete wall. Then when I got to the house and I turn off the car, and turn it back on again the steering was hard and I couldn't move the car no more and then three messages appear talking about the electronic steering failure.

While driving home from work, on a city street, I noticed a light come on in my dash about power steering faulty or something of that nature. As I turned in the driveway of my home, the steering wheel was extra hard to turn. It happened a couple times prior to this but I turned car off and restarted it and the problem was corrected. This time it will not correct itself by restarting car. I haven't driven car in 4 months because of this issue, although I am still paying on this car. I have read several complaints about the power steering failing on this make and model car. I'm to scared to drive it now because I don't want to hurt others or myself trying to get it to the dealership.

Steering fault started coming on intermitedly for last year now it comes on and never shuts off leaving with no power steering at all car is undrivable to hard to steer drove it a while first time I notice it could not turn so it sits cant afford to fix it always started when turning car on.
Power steering assist failed suddenly while driving. When steering is out on these vehicles is actually almost impossible to turn the wheel. I have driven old vehicles without power steering and this is twice as hard to steer. This vehicle is equipped with the epas. Apparently many people are having the same problem. I contacted Ford and they dined coverage because the epas software was updated in 2015 as part of a recall for defective epas. The software update did not accomplish anything as the epas failed after the recall software update. This is a huge safety concern that needs to be address ASAP, I guess Ford is waiting for fatal accidents to start occurring and increasing before they do something about this power steering defect.
My 2011 Ford Fusion seemed to be operating normally after a drive of about 2. 5 hours, beginning at about 7:30 a. M. , mostly on highways, on Sunday, April 9, 2017. The drive was from arnold, maryland to perkasie, pennsylvania. The weather was sunny and mild. When I started the car after it had been parked with the ignition off for about 30 minutes in perkasie, pennsylvania, the steering wheel was very hard to turn. I drove the car several miles on secondary roads and the steering remained extremely stiff at slow speeds, but somewhat easier to handle at higher speeds. I also noticed a steering assist fault message on the display. I then parked the car. After the car was parked with the ignition off for about 10 minutes I restarted the car. At that time the steering operated normally again. I drove back to arnold, maryland without further steering problem.
Left my sisters home on christmas eve and within . 25 mile I received a warning light indicating a steering issue. Within minutes my steering wheel tightened up so tight that my step son had to grab the wheel to help me turn into a gas station. It was extremely frightful because the road we were on was very curvy and it was at night! after few tries we attempted to drive the vehicle home. My son luckily who is a very strong and big 19yr old drove us home while stating the steering felt very tight that he admitted it required great strength to keep control of the car. I have had this car since 2010 and this model has had a full throttle bottle recall (twice) a gas tank line recall, air bag recall (which I'm still waiting for) and the a/c had to be replaced. This car is and has been the worst model of all Fusions. I took this car to the Ford dealership who then examined the car and determined it was the steering gear that has went out on my car and it will be $1795 to replace!! that's half the price of what this car is even worth not to mention I had already paid $1200 to get the a/c fixed over the summer. I searched online to see if others had the same gear issue and behold google shows a class action lawsuit in California about it and over 500 recall complaints yet Ford has not recalled it! seriously? I feel considering the past recalls on this model that this particular issue is a huge safety concern. If my step son had not been with me to assist turning the wheel, I would have no doubt wrecked on this curvy road christmas weekend. Which sadly stranded us because of how Ford carelessly threw this model of the fushion out with so many recalls. They should know with so many recalls they should realize this car was poorly built and shouldn't hold the consumers lives and money responsible. This is the first time I've owned a Ford :(.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the dealer who sold the vehicle was informed several times that the steering wheel was tight and difficult to turn as the failure progressed, the independent dealer was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. They recommended that the vehicle be diagnosed by an authorized dealer. The vehicle was taken to (shawnee mission Ford,11501 shawnee mission pkwy, shawnee, KS 66203, (913) 631-0000 ) who stated that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: (steering). The contact was experiencing the same failure as the recall but was uncertain if the vehicle may be repaired because of the manufacturer excluding the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
I was driving my car when all of a sudden I go to make a right turn in my steering wheel locked up on me completely I instantly ran over the sidewalk almost hitting another vehicle and a person. I then called my brother to push my vehicle off the sidewalk back into the street. I then had my brother trying to drive it to a Ford dealership in hagerstown maryland which then it was so hard to do the steering wheel was so hard to turn but he is a strong guy so he managed to get it to the dealership also we was only a mile away from that dealership. I then went inside in was told that there was a recall on the powersteering but from my VIN number mines wasnt covered??? im not understanding why because I looked it up online and it clearly states on every website that I have checked that a 2011 Ford Fusion sel without a 3. 5 engine is covered in the recall. My car is still at the dealership because I dont have the money to pay for this and need someone to explain to me why is it just my vehicle that is covered on this recall?.

The failure millage was 98184. Dr/ak.

I replaced a flat tire on my vehicle no problems before hand. Once I put the spare on and proceeded to drive my steering was hard to control. I managed to get the vehicle home. I immediately changed the tire and assumed that the lights will be gone. I have a message for service power steering, advance trac. I took it to Ford dealership they said they didn't have a recall. I looked and research and found that there is one but my VIN wasn't under it.
While backing out n a grocery store parking lot, the power steering failed and the steering wheel was extremely tight. I had to apply force to the steering wheel to get it to turn. I restarted the vehicle and the condition continued. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 15v340000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure.

Eleven weeks ago 10/22/15 while driving home from work in the morning on the expressway service road going 45mph a warning light came on on the panel reading, "service power steering now/service advancetrac. I continued to drive on home. Park the car and went inside got my daughter ready for school, went back outside an hour later turned the car on warning light still there. Went to pull off and the car steering wheel was so hard to move. I slowly drove my daughter to school a few blocks away on a normal neighborhood road going 30mph. After I dropped her off at school, I slowly drove it straight to my local mineke car care center around the corner. It is very unsafe but I have no other way to get her to and from school. Unable to park the car straight because of the stiffen steering wheel. I must say you really have to put your muscles into steering the car. Mineke cleared the codes and the car was ok for a while. Seven weeks later the same thing happened again, driving straight on the same expressway service road going 45mph. Brought it back to 12/9/15 mineke car care center and they referred me to the Ford dealer because they said there were more codes and they probably needed to update the computer there were seven codes this time according to mineke. Once at the Ford dealer, they ran a diagnostic check ($146) and said I needed the pscm updated. Once they did that the car was okay for a week and a half and the car was again taken back to the Ford dealer on 12/31/15. This time I was told the "steering rack and pinion needs to be replaced. A job costing $1,862. 42.
I was driving straight and in the middle of acceleration when my 2012 Fusion sel began to make notification sounds. I read two notifications. The first one included a warning light for "service advancetrac". The second notification read "service power steering now". I continued to drive northbound to the highway. Upon turning and breaking to board the freeway, I realized the steering wheel was extremely tight. It was nearly impossible for me to steer my car towards the freeway with several other cars driving at speeds between 35-50 mph behind us. I had to use both arms and body weight to turn right to get on the freeway. I was afraid to continue on the highway as I had not experienced this before and my two daughters were in the backseat. I went to a dealership to diagnose the issue. I was told the steering gear would need to be replaced. I researched this issue. There are recalls on Fusions made between 2011-2013 for this exact issue. However, my vehicle is not included in the Ford recalls. This is a safety issue for myself and others, especially when I am on the highway often. Ford motor CO. Has told me three times that my car wasn't included in the recalls, it was not made in the same factory as those recalled, and it was made months after the recall. The cars included in the recall were made in February 2012 while my car was made in June 2012. This is a horrible way to handle consumers. Safety of consumers does not appear relevant to Ford motor company. There needs to be a recall for thousands more 2012 Ford Fusions. . . This should be a safety concern for everyone.
Pulled vehicle into my driveway Sunday afternoon after normal operation and turned it off. After 5 minutes went to move vehicle. Turned key to start and power steering assist fault message appeared. Steering wheel was very hard to turn so vehicle wasn't moved. Tried to move again 15 minutes later but still no power steering. Vehicle stayed in driveway overnight. Monday morning, vehicle was started and steering was back to normal. After 3 weeks, problem has not happened again. Contacted a Ford dealer and 2 private shops, all tell me there is no code retained for this issue and it would have to be diagnosed with the problem actually happening. Also contacted Ford customer service. The rep said she would record my info but could not provide technical assistance.
I live in alton, texas this is the second time I have this incident. 1. Time it happened the steering wheel was hard to move at first then was impossible to move. I was on the road close to home and I was able to park halfway in the driveway. Car was taken to dealer and was "fixed". 2. Time it happened I was at the parking lot barely going to avenue I decreased speed and was able to get home light went on steering wheel was slightly hard to move.
I was driving home with my 12 year old son down the post road in orange CT and all of a sudden, the malfuction indicator light for traction control illuminates and then I get a message to service power steering now. Without warning,in an instant, I lost the ability to steer my car smoothly and safely as the steering wheel became extremely tight. I drove about a mile until I could pull my car over safely and thought that it was just something as simple as resetting my car so I turned the car off and restarted it, but by this time, the steering wheel was even tighter than before and I could barely turn the wheel. I prayed and did my best to maneuver my car so that I wouldn't hit anybody else, but it was hard to even drive in a straight line pattern. The turns I had to make to drive to my home were extremely wide and unsafe. I'm upset with this as I've done my home work and it looks like there was an investigation regarding this scenario but not an actual recall. Ford acknowledges a safety issue, but apperently does nothing until something happens. I live in a state that is in a rainy season and soon winter if this had of happen with snow on the ground. . . This would have been bad. . . . Very bad.
My name is pamela hamilton. I have a 2010 Ford Fusion. I was driving on September 2,2015 when I went to turn a corner my steering wheel was very hard to turn and it still is. I took it to the Ford place to find out what was wrong and they said that it would cost $1800 to fix my vehicle. I thought that it might need some power steering fluid, but they told me that it does not use power steering fluid. I am filing this complaint because I know that there are recalls on the 2011 for a steering problem, and I don't have any power steering at all and would like to know if there have been anymore complaints about this problem with the 2010 Ford Fusion. Thank you pamela hamilton 1012 e. Howry Ave. Deland,FL. 32724.
My 19 year old daughter was driving to college when out of the blue she went to drive around a right hand corner at about 45 mph and the electronic power steering completely failed the car steering was so hard to turn the car didn't make the right hand turn so the car went across the road and up over the curb and almost hit a lady walking her dog no one was hurt but sure could have been the car has no other damage besides the steering and the advance track not working I'm very glad everyone is ok I'm 50 years old and I have never seen anything like this I had to go get the car off the curb and drive it to the Ford dealer way hard to do even harder then a older vehicle if the power steering failed something really needs to be done before someone gets killed 42000 miles car is like new and I see well over 500 complaints so far so I would say this isn't just a random problem.
I was driving home from work (70 or so miles away from where I live) at about the halfway point I heard car ding and a warning popped up on my dashboard saying "powersteering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" and right away I immediately could feel the steering wheel being unable to turn. I was going 50 miles an hour and as soon as the warning popped up my steering wheel became nearly impossible to turn. I went right into a field as the road turned into a curve and the steering wheel was too hard to turn. I went off the road and into a field. No air bags went off and I slammed my head into the steering wheel. After the shock of what happened I shut my car off and called my fiancé crying freaking out as I was still another 40 or so miles away from home. My head hurt but I did not relieve medical attention. He told me to calm down and he would see if there was anything on the internet about this issue with my car. And he found out it is an ongoing issue with many people. He told me to leave my car off for a while and turn it back on. When I did the powersteering worked again and after taking a few deep breaths I was able to get out of the field and rice the rest of the way home without any more incidents that day. 2 days later on may 12th 2015 the powersteering failed again and has since continued to not work. I was inches away from going into a guardrail at 65 mph before I slammed on the breaks and pulled the wheel to the left as hard as I could to get away from the guard rail, thankfully there was no car coming in the left lane.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that there was a sudden loss of power steering while in reverse. The steering wheel was difficult to turn left and right as well as the eps warning light illuminated. The steering wheel was extremely tight. The vehicle was to not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 15v340000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. Djr.
Car was driving fine. When I was leaving destination, I was backing out warning light came on epas failure light. Power steering was out very hard to steer. Shut car off, restarted car, light was still on no power steering also advancetrakc light came on. Could have went out at any given time all at once. Very expensive to fix.
While driving to a family member birthday party less then 15 miles from our residence, we began pulling onto the road and that when it the display said service power steering now and it was hard to turn. As we turned on the the road while driving our 3 young children on the back with no power steering we almost got tboned. The car had only 69k on the mileage it had just passed the warranty repair limit. I thought it might have been a easy fix like most other vehicles they have a chain or belt but this is completely electrical. The part that really has made me upset and frustrated was when my sister in law a close friend with the same year make and model received notices that their cars were up for a recall for the power steering. So I called my local dealer and asked if they could check on if my car was up for recall since my car actually had the power steering go out on it. The dealership responded with a "no, because my car was not on the designated list of a certain time, place and date it was manufactured to be applicable for the recall". It makes no sense that if they are recalling some with the power steering issues why not all, especially the one that are actually have real issues and are a possible threat to the safety of ones family.
Driving my car home from work today and a warning came on care display saying "power steering assist fault" came on steering was a little hard for a couple second and then light went off and steering return to normal. Had a happen before when park but didn't thank anything until today. Also have been coming out of garage and traction control light coming on and said fault before.

Was driving and my power steering stopped working. Dash indicates power steering assist fault. Service autotrac. I have no power steering and it is extremely hard to turn my steering. I have noticed that this is a problem with multiple Fusion owners and the car is quite new to be having such a serious problem. Not being able to steer or control your vehicle seems very dangerous.
Traveling along and accelerator pedal did not respond to pressing and steering was hard to steer. Car was still running. Loss of power steering and no gas pedal. Pulled over and turned car off and restarted. Issue went away but came back 20 miles later. I called dealer shenandoah Ford and was told this is normal and nothing to worry about and keep driving.
When I first started my car, I notice the chimes going off letting me know it was an error or warning. I noticed in the dash it read power steering assist fault. I noticed the steering wheel was very hard to turn. I immediatley turned off the car and restarted and the message went away. The very next morning the exact same thing happened. So four days later it happened only to find out me restarting would not make the message go away. So now I am without power steering and I have read so many complaints of the same and nothing is being done to correct the issue. Nothing will happen unless someone gets hurt or god forbid killed. Its too late then. Ford does not want to be responsible.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the power steering has failed in the vehicle. The steering wheel was very hard to turn. This failure has occurred intermittently over a period of seven months. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000. Rg.
When I started the car a new message stating "service power steering now and service advance autotrac" when I started the engine, a message stated "service power steering now and service advance autotrac" on dashboard. Electrical steering failed and it was hard to turn. Dealer can not fix it. Tried to restart but problem stays. This is a dangerous safety issue and must be investigated by Ford immediately.
2nd time it happened: while driving, electrical power steering gear failed, steering was hard to turn, dealer reset the failure (power steering assist fault; service power steering now) and steering was working fine again. This is a serious safety issue and needs to be investigated. Thanks.
The steering wheel of the Ford Fusion se puts excessive pressure on the carpel tunnels of the hands, when it is held naturally, which leads to numbness and tingling in the fingers. The steering wheel is hard and shaped more like a wagon wheel than a steering wheel. I have tried steering wheel covers, but they only help a little. The shape of the wheel is still a problem even with a padded steering wheel cover.
