1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2009 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Takata recall: ref. Nhtsa id #: 10945038 submitted on January 13th. During July 2016, I received a recall notice from Ford motor company about the passenger side air bag inflator needing replaced. The letter stated that a ruptured inflator may cause serious injury or death. I have read the risks of both keeping the status quo and the risks involved with deactivating the inflator. Since the replacement part and repair notice has not been received by Ford to date, I want to deactivate the passenger side inflator until a replacement part is installed. Today, March 24th, 2017, I called the NHTSA customer service number to learn the process to have a dealership deactivate the switch. I was directed to the NHTSA website and entered "deactivate air bag" in the search box. I located appendix c and took the completed form to my nearest Ford dealership. At the end of my phone call, I asked if takata will assume the labor cost for this effort or whether I will be expected to pay. The NHTSA customer service rep told me that I would not bear that cost. I drove my car to sam pack five star Ford in plano, TX and the service tech told me that they do not do that and wondered where I got the form since it lacked a gov't letterhead and looked like something I generated myself. After more insistence on my part, the service tech went to his supervisor. The response was that 1) they never did this before 2) I would have to get further authorization from Ford customer service 3) they do not have the labels to put on/in the car and would have to order them; assuming there is a part # for them, and 4) I would be charged $135 for their labor to deactivated since it is not part of the remove and replacement of the inflator. Ford made a copy of my completed form and stated that they would pursue direction through their channels.

2 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

While operating the vehicle you will lose dash lights, headlights at times, bright lights no longer work, passengerside airbag disabled light comes on, fan motor for heat/air stops working, left rear tail light is not working even after replacement of bulbs, door locks and window switches fail to work, traction control off light comes on, feedback comes through radio speakers as very course static. Some of these may be corrected by heavy breaking, exceleration or by turning car off and back on. This is only temporary and may repeat itself every few seconds.

3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2008 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/05/2007

The air bag on the 2008 Ford Mustang is to close to the front of the seat,I purchased one for my wife, she sits up right in the passenger seat with her back against the back of the seat ,the air bag was turn off when she was a passenger in the car,Ford is aware that this happened and said that they could not do anything about it,we had the car less than one month and it was in the shop 3 times during this time,we had it returned under the lemon law,but this is a safety problem if you have to sit so close to the front of the seat in order for the air bag to be turned on. We have a 04 f-150,a 04 gran marquis and drove an explorer, and a taurus while her car was in the shop and never had the air bag light to come on. Ford said that they could not find fault with the light, just the placement of the sensor being to far to the front of the seat. A simple move closer to the rear of the seat would solve this problem.

4 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/26/2007

Passenger air bag light comes on saying "passenger air bag off" with someone sitting in the passenger seat. Have taken it to the dealer 3 times they say there is no code coming up there is nothing they can do to fix it. Vehicle has also had to be towed in twice for a dead cell in the battery and the battery replaced.
