1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2018 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/11/2020

Vehicle experiences random non repeatable periods of hard shifting, refusal to go into gear, grinding gears, jerkiness and what feels occasionally like transmission slips. When it occurs it mostly happens under heavy acceleration such as trying to get up to speed on an on ramp or trying to get to highway speeds but not always. Recently while traveling in a 45mph zone I attempted to shift into 3rd gear. Clutch was fully depressed and noticable gear grinding happened and an immediate second attempt resulted in same result. Had to shift to 4th causing vehicle to be in unacceptable gear range for current speed. Service appointment at dealership made June 10th 2020. Issue has happened several times previously but seems to be getting worse. Last known incident happened June 11 2020 at approximately 3:30 pm est one day after making appointment with dealership.

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2018 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 02/17/2019

When getting up to speed on an on ramp or passing on a two la e road, when shifting into third gear, the transmission will not go into gear. I've had this happen twice, once my daughter was with me on a two lane road, going from second to third while passing, the car will not allow it. People have noted this many places while running out second gear and shifting into third in multi situations. This is a hazard and it is known due to the shifter not being direct and using a remote linkage. An aftermarket bracket and shifter will fix this issue, however this vehicle should operate safely without purchasing aftermarket equipment. Simple look up missed shifts with mt-82 Mustang transmission. You will see many with the same issue and aftermarket parts to fix this safety hazard.

4 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/31/2017

At wide open throttle the transmission will not allow a gear change from first to second if the rpm is grater than 6000 rpm. The clutch peddle releases at the floor. After the engine has slowed the clutch returns to normal and the car can now be shifted into second. It may be caused by trough out bearing or spring tension on the clutch its self. I have had this problem since I bought the car 3 months ago. The car only has 46000 miles on it. I have read other people have had the same common problem.

5 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/17/2016

I was unable to shift gears while driving and the service dept advised I had bad synchros and was fixed under warranty. Fast forward a couple of months and had difficulty switching gears from 1st to 2nd had really bad grinding and would take a couple of times to shift. Then, when starting my car from my house, I was unable to get the gear into reverse while the car was on. It just wouldn't go in to gear. . . Not any gear in fact. I had to turn the car off and put it into reverse and then turn the car on. While the clutch was fully pressed down the car started moving backwards when I removed my foot from the break. (the car was level and that never happens). Then after backing up I couldn't get it out of reverse. I had to turn the car off and put it in 1st and then start the car. The same thing - it moved with the clutch in and couldn't get it out of gear. I had the car towed to the dealer's service department. After the tow, for whatever reason, they were able to drive the car without issue. I'm not used to driving a car with such transmission problems that can't be diagnosed.

6 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

I have experienced at high rpms switching from 1st gear to 2nd the transmission failed to go in gear on several occasions. And also 3rd to 4th. . Dealer says it's common at times. After months of dealing with this issues 5th gear is grinding and is at the dealer for repair at my expense.

7 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2000 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

I have purchased a used 2000 Ford Mustang and to make a long story short the transmission will not go into gear unless I rev the rpms up very high and I am interested in keeping this vehicle so I looked on line and found this is a very common problem with this car, I have went from site to site, I don't mind paying for the repair if need be, but this is dangerous, I don't want to injury myself or anyone else. I have found there is a problem with the design and needs to be corrected. I would like to know what is the solution and cause of this problem. I want to thank you so much for your time.

10 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

My 6-speed trans will not engage into gear. For example, I entered onto the highway and could not shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear and when I was able again the clutch made a "pop" noise and raised 3-5 inches towards my foot. After that incident I cannot shift or accelerate and the ride is rough now.

11 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/27/2011

I have a 6 speed manual transmission. It will not go into 2nd gear sometimes and when it does it's notchy and clunky (sometime it's smooth but rare). Under harder acceleration it will not go into 2nd gear at all. It does not grind or anything. It just won't go in. It's like hitting a wall. I've had this happen to me several times on the street and highway.

12 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

Faulty 6-speed manual transmission. Any time the vehicle is on an incline 20 degrees or higher and being shifted from 2nd gear (around 18-20mph) to any other gear the shifter gets stuck in neutral with inability to go to any other gear until the engine rpm drops. This shifting delay can take anywhere form 3 to 7 seconds, before another gear is available to engage.

13 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/03/2011

My 2011 Mustang joined the list of broken 6 speed manual cars. Will not shift into 5 gear causing a stall at 45mph or skip a gear and thats saying it lets you have 3rd gear. This problem is so bad that Ford is paying for rent cars when they don't have to. I've already traded 1 2011 Mustang in for for this one with both having transmisson having issues at 12,000 miles. This is becoming a bad joke of a car to say the least. It is also very easy to go backwards with first gear going into reverse instead. Transmisson is a bad joke.

14 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/28/2011

I have a 2012 Mustang with the getrag mt82 6 speed transmission with the know issue of notchy shifting and sometimes not going into gear. More than once while making a turn I found myself going to slow for second gear and when trying to go to first gear I am locked out. So I am forced to either unexpectedly slow down to a near stop to go into first which could lead to a accident, or go to second and hope I don't stall. This is a problem I have never experienced in any other manual car I have driven (2007 Honda civic, and 2009 Ford Mustang).

15 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/09/2011

Going on 10,000 miles on 2011 Mustang gt with manual 6-spd. At first showed very notchy shifting, and gears would grind with clutch depressed completely when cold. Problem went away once the transmission warmed up. Took it in to Ford dealer, they changed the transmission fluid, now you can feel a vibration and whirr/grinding noise sometimes in 1st-3rd. Extremely notchy now, will frequently not engage a gear if under acceleration. I have had 2nd and 3erd gear refuse to engage several times now while on a freeway onramp, when passing, and in general higher-than-normal load conditions.

16 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

2011 Mustang gt-500. Consumer states transmission problems with vehicle the consumer stated right from the beginning shifting up and down was difficult. The consumer stated the vehicle would not go into 2nd gear from 1st gear under a moderately high rpm.

17 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

Car has just over 2000 miles and since the first week I had the car it has shifting issues. Grinds gears randomly and will not go into first easily. Sometimes the transmission will not go into gears while moving. First gear feels locked out sometimes and will not allow me to go in first without a fight.

18 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/21/2011

The manual transmission on my 2011 Ford Mustang has erratic shifting which has caused me to nearly be rear-ended twice now and hit by on-cmoing traffic as it fails to go in gear, even with the clutch fully engaged. There appears to be problems shifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. The gears will not engage and the transmission reamins in neutral. The latest incident for me was when I was trying to accelerate from a stoplight that turned green, I shifted from 1st to 2nd but couldn't get the tranmission into 2nd or 3rd with the clutch fully depressed. Because I was in neutral, I lost most accelration and the SUV behind me nearly rear-ended as I was stuck in neutral and not going anywhere. I was able to at least rev the engine enough to get it into 4th to get enough power to the wheels to avoid being hit.

19 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

Car will not shift into gears. The vehicle will not allow me to enter the gear I desire, causing the car to suddenly loose momentum leaving me in a very dangerous situation in traffic. This has happened to me numerous times crossing intersections and entering the highway almost causing an accident. The car has a manual transmission. I have had ongoing issues with this vehicle since I purchased it, and I cannot drive the car with the confidence that it is safe.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift into gear when traveling at speeds of 60 mph and above. The contact had taken the vehicle into the dealer several times but the dealer was unable to locate the cause of failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 6,000.

22 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/20/2011

Manual transmission shifting problem, many times I have experienced in 2nd and 5th gear that it is very hard to shift with clutch all the way in. In second gear I am around 10 mph and at 5th gear I am around 50 mph - 60 mph. During cold start the shifting to second gear is even more impossible and it can cause an accident specially when crossing intersection because the the vehicle does not go into 2nd gear right away.

23 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Just a few of the issues I had while my car . I was told there was no problem with my car after I almost got killed twice because it would not down shift into lower gears at highway speeds. Trans will look up once shifter is in between gears and will not go into gears still speed and rpm slow down. Most evident when trying to go from 6th to 4th. I was almost in an accident twice because I was not able to down shift to get out of the way of a oncoming traffic. Had a cracked rim that was obviously a casting defect. Had a ticking in the engine after long trips. . 5. 0 sounded like a diesel.

24 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 02/17/2011

I have been experiencing intermittant transmission problems since I bought my 2011 Mustang v6 equipped with a mt82 manual transmission. At first the car would resist shifting into 1st gear while fully stopped, even with the clutch pressed to the floor. Soon after 2nd gear began resisting shifts and I had occasional "lock-outs" where it would not go into 2nd gear frequently while turning left. When this happens I had to upshift to 3rd of if there was traffic in front I would coast until I can safely downshift to 1st. I had the car diagnosed and serviced at the dealership and they felt the problem was caused by stretched bolts in the pressure plate that kept the clutch from disengaging. Unfortunatley this didn't help and the shift feel continued to degrade. Today I experienced a new problem: I was stopped at an intersection and when the light turned green I attempted to shift into 1st but the shifter only moved 90% of the way forward and didn't engage any gears. It didn't grind even when I let the clutch out it just was as if there was no 1st gear. I attempted to pull it back into neutral and it resisted; it felt locked in. Eventually I pulled hard enough that it came back to neutral but the same thing happened when I tried to shift into 1st again. It wouldn't find the gear and got stuck. All during this time of about 30 seconds there were other drivers that had exited the highway and had to stop and go around me while I was stuck at the intersection. I could have easily been rearended. I've had other near misses when I've pulled out in front of traffic and been locked out of 2nd gear as well. The official word is that Ford is aware of the problem but they don't have a fix yet. I had been biding my time until a solution is found but it appears that this may result in an accident if not resolved soon.

25 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 01/02/2011

The manual transmission in my 2011 Ford Mustang gt has given me problems for the past year of ownership. There have been multiple incidents where the transmission will not go into 2nd gear. The gear appears/feels to be "locked out". This has happened while pulling out across on-coming traffic, and I have had numerous close calls. I also have horrible gear while/noise, and grinding shifts almost all the time. Ford has rebuilt my transmission, but refuses to do anything else with the car. They claim that this is "normal" for this car. My wife drives the vehicle, and I fear for her safety. Please help me!.

26 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

Since vehicle was new, mt82 transmission is very difficult to shift in cold weather. Frequent synchro grinding in 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shifts. Now getting worse in summer conditions. Starting to grind during the 1-2, and 2-3 shift. Especially when transmission is cold, when turning left (1-2), and when shifting on rough pavement. Vehicle has been into the shop for a fluid change (TSB), which did not help. Ford refuses to acknowlege the issue or implement further corrective action. I am concerned the condition will continue to develop into the dangerous failure mode other owners are beginning to seee (failure to engage gear). A recall should be issued on the mt82 transmission immediately.

27 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

Manual transmission, 2nd gear occasionally cannot be selected on acceleration even with clutch fully depressed. Car coasts until another gear is selected or forced into gear by "double clutching". Dealer replaced clutch pressure plate bolts and bled clutch lines. Problem occurs less often, but still there. Below 70 degrees ambient temperature 2nd gear grinds until up to operating temperature and third gear "kicks back" the shifter. A year and 10000 miles later no change. Problem is so random that dealer cannot reproduce adequately to get Ford to authorize any repair. Ford customer service reports it is "normal" for a performance car to change gears poorly.

28 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 1997 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/19/1998

The transmission cannot be shifted into reverse in any reliable manner. Obvious problem since day one. Reported to Ford, they returned with no problem found. Cannot shift into reverse under any emergency condition if such a situation arises. For a period of 2 months, at 18000 miles, had intermittent grinding when upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear when cold. Not reported to Ford since not consistent enough and did not want to bother with no problem found response. Problem has since gone away (for now). Recent incident, had total failure of clutch cable assembly. Could not shift into gear after stopping at traffic light. I was stuck in the middle of the intersection and forced to abandon car in the middle of a very busy road. One individual swerved to miss my car and almost caused a multi car accident. Ford did replace under warranty. They did mention that clutch needs replacement for possible damage to cable failure. No word from Ford if this is under warranty.
