I was contacted by the NHTSA, after I had an accident in my 2020 Ford Mustang ecoboost with the automatic transmission and ability to manually shift. I spoke with an investigator by the name of [xxx]. The investigator wished me good luck, as it was relayed to me that I was the only one who had the problem which resulted in me having an accident. I have since then found multiple sites with multiple complaints of the same issue, and I was told that there’s a fourth class action suit right now that I should be a part of. Please have someone who is familiar with what’s going on with Ford call me [xxx]. Thank you for your help! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The transmission failed while driving on a busy street making a left turn. My safety and my passenger's safety was at risk because there was oncoming traffic when I made a left turn and a car was trailing me. Just like another complaint, "10 speed transmission did not engage then failed less than a second later while pulling into an intersection. This caused the car to enter the intersection but fail to go forward more than a few feet. The problem resolved after three attempts to go forward by pumping the gas peddle. The transmission also was jerking or jumping from 1st through 3rd gear as if the car could not find the correct gear to be in while going forward. The problem resolved after the first mile of driving". However, for me the problem returned again once I turned the car off, and restarted it. After less than a mile of driving, the transmission began malfunctioning again jumping, and jerking until the transmission just stopped working altogether. Someone has posted experiencing the same malfunction on the same model and year vehicle and I wonder if there are others that have had the same scary, horrible experience? due to my transmission malfunctioning during my turn, I was lucky that the oncoming car just stopped and blew at me, and the car behind me just went around me instead of crashing into my rear. The car was towed to the dealer and is in the process of being evaluated. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the incident and the automobile is now at the dealership because the vehicle totally stopped driving.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000. . . Updated 05/09/12

Transmission has shifted rough almost from the start but has gotten progressively worse. Currently have 15,000 miles on it. Transmission is often slow to upshift and frequently slams into lower gears. Most dangerous situation when accellerating back up from a stop or slowing down transmission delays several seconds before engaging which has caused me to have several near misses when the car did not respond to me giving it gas. Ford dealer said they could not replicate problem or find any codes.
The engine on my 2007 Ford Mustang was revving high when I started the vehicle. When I put it into drive, the vehicle took off on me hitting another vehicle and crashing through a wall accross from the spot I was parked in. This unintended acceleration has not happened prior to this incident but the vehicle only had 5,075 miles on it.

The push button on the handle of the shifter that you have to press to get it out of park on my 2003 Mustang is sticking. It's as though you try to push it while not stepping on the brake but we are stepping on the brake. We try jiggling and pushing and after a few minutes of fighting with it, it starts working fine until the next time I have to drive it somewhere. I had to replace the shift interlock cable due to it binding up and not releasing properly.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Mustang gt. The contact experienced unexpected inability to shift gears. In addtion, the contact attempted to shift the vehicle into first gear, but the vehicle shifted into reverse. The dealer replaced the fluid; however, the vehicle's performance did not change. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. No repairs were performed. The approximate failure mileage was 800 and the current mileage was 2,500.
While traveling between 70 and 75 mph when I let off the throttle my car will down shift (automatic transmission) to lower gear causing a dangerous condition. It is like hitting the brakes without the brake light going on. Also when coming to stop sign it abruptly down shifts, I have not been hit in the rear yet but I am concerned. Brought to dealer three times dealer denies condition because he cannot duplicate it. This is an intermittent condition. I am starting to see it documented on forums.
2005 Mustang had routine automatic transmission flush done at 46k miles, prior to service no leaks, only complaints of noisy transmission. Now transmission leaks, noticed some oil at a few hundreds wiped it clean thinking it was residue from the flush. At 50k checked again and leak in worse and took back to dealership (jones Ford, n. Charleston, SC). Dealer refused to cover the repair of the leak, stating leak was not caused by routine maintenance they performed, although states they do these routinely and occasionally cars come back leaking from the procedure. Contacted Ford motor crc and they stated it is a dealership service issue. Dealership says it's not. Yet I'm out to pay for a repair bill CA. Between $700 and $1000 depending on damage done.

My accident happened in a parking lot. When carefully backing out of my parking spot, my car suddenly accelerated. I tried unsuccessfully to stop the car by hitting the brakes. My car kept accelerating. It clipped another parked vehicle. My car came finally to a stop when it hit a water hydrant/ sprinkler system.

I was driving down a ramp to a highway (route 21 in clifton, NJ) at approx. 30mph and went to accelerate tp the middle lane on the highway at approx. 45mph when the car suddenly took off. I felt like someone was holding the gas pedal down and the only way I could get some sort of control was to drop the gears to 3rd gear (I have an automatic Mustang 2008 convertible with 500 miles on it). I also held the brake down and put the flashers on to alert other drivers that I was having a problem. I drove for 1/4 of a mile like that before I was able to gain control in a turn. It was only then that I felt the car to be really in third gear. I shifted back to drive and made it home. This is the first occurrence that I've had and feel lucky to not have hit anybody on that wild ride. I called a local Ford dealership and will take it in for service. I do not trust this car to drive at this point.
2005 Ford Mustang gt convertible. This vehicle has an automatic transmission that when accelerating will sporadically shifts from first to second gear with a extremely rough gear change. The rough gear change jerks the car forward with enough force to strain the passenger necks and accelerates the car unexpectedly which can easily lead to a frontal crash.
While backing from my garage, I put the shifter into reverse. The car will pause and then a sudden jerk into reverse. The automatic transmission was recently flushed at the Ford dealership prior to the start of this problem.
Ford Mustang 2006 transmission . Car sometimes will not move when put in gear or has a hesitation then clanks in . One time it guit pulling while moving down roadway-but caught back before stopped.

2007 Mustang gt equipped with the 5rss5 automatic transmission. "whining" sound coming from the transmission when in 2nd gear after it has reached operating temperature. Service advisor advised that its normal and no service is required even without mechanic to inspect the problem. Advisor did not write up service ticket. Later discovered a fellow owner had same problem and it found that the 2nd gear clutch was faulty and was rubbing the case from the inside causing the whining sound. Case was replaced and sound was gone. Another incident was discovered, and owner stated it led to complete failure due to metal particles circulating in the system destroying the other gears after prolonged use.
2006 Mustang gt 4,445 miles transmission went out. Would not replace with new had car for over 3 weeks.
Two incidents- one October 27, 2006 -transmission quit on an open highway 47 miles on vehicle second - December 23, 2006 - unintended acceleration - computer failure causing property damage.
#1: engine rpm does not stay at idle while in neutral (5-speed manual transmission) if the vehicle is moving. #2: while in gear and not pressing on accelerator, the car continues at a steady speed. The cruise control is off.
2006 Ford Mustang exhibiting hesitation upon acceleration on four different occasions while pulling out into traffic. Feels as if car has stalled then sling shots car into traffic. Each incident nearly resulting in accidents. Dealership can't duplicate problem and therefore can't make any repairs to car. No sensor errors or messages when checked, but obviously there is a malfunction with electronic &/or sensors from gas pedal to engine.
Took delivery of Mustang premium convertible (v6) on 1/6/2006. Drove home 17 miles. While accelerating from a full stop and turning onto side street, the engine appeared to accelerate and then stopped in the middle of the turn in the middle of oncoming traffic. Fortunately no accident occurred. During subsequent drives, engine appears to accelerate from a full stop but then stalls. If accelerator is pressed quickly enough, the engine does not stop; however, it may exhibit the stall a second time. Dealer indicates that no information is recorded on computer indicating reason for failure. They cannot duplicate the failure. Next step is to install a "black box" to record event activity during the stall. This does not occur when the engine is cold. It also is very intermittent but, if it is going to happen, it will be following a full stop. I do not feel safe in this vehicle. The failure can occur during a turn across traffic or while moving straight ahead from the stop - either of which could result in an accident.
2003 Mustang gt cp, purchased from planet Ford dealership 20403 I-45 north, spring, TX 77388 (281) 719-3891 on June 28,2003. I was one happy customer until I drove my vehicle into their service department April 10,2004 when all hell broke loose about my Mustang; steering wheel vibration, rear end vibration and delayed shift in transmission. I was told to rotate my tires, balance tires, upgrade the wheel balancing and front end alignment. Along with the problems I receive three embarrassment; police escorted me off the property because I was trying to prove to both dealerships that my problem was not my tires. But, their words were that Ford has the best mechanics. I then had to drive my car to leadership Ford in dallas, TX in order for someone to provided with the proper customer service that I was denied by planet, team and russell & smith Ford in houston. Leadshiip Ford took the time to lesson to the issues and test drive the car to verified that I had a problem. They determined that vibration that I experience was caused by the transmission and the rear end, not the tires nor the front end. As a result they replaced the transmission and the rearend. I meet with planet Ford general manager - ron euren, whom apologized for the problem I had with the car. But, he followed his apology with the following words - "since you have been nothing but problems for this dealership for any addition issue you may have with your Mustang take to another dealership for service. Do not return to planet Ford otherwise you will be arrested on the spot.
Auto trans is shifting slow into third. Then when shifting down it clunks intermittently.
Consumer stated that while driving at any speed during warm weather and no warning the vehicle will stall and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified. Ts.

Took vehicle in for a oil change dealer stated to the consumer that the transmission had a leak. Also the vehicle is idling very high consumer states that the vehicle will go as fast as 15 mph without putting her foot on the accelerator pedal. Nlm.
This vehicle is a lemon. Ford knows the transmissions are bad, but won't do anything.

The vehicle has a surge/hesitation in overdrive between 1200 and 1600 rpm's and also in third gear at about 2000 rpm's. Dealer says they cannot find anything wrong but do acknowledge there is a problem. Dealership admits that Ford service reps are aware of other cars with same symptoms.
Have had numerous problems with the power train and they replaced the transmission and is still doing the same thing. . . Will not replace the vehicle and says that it does not fall under the lemon law even though they have tried to fix the problem and have failed three seperate times. . . . All I want is another car without the problems.
Car was stuck in reverse on two separate occassions. Was able to work it out first time but had to have it towed to dealer second time. Dealer states they can not get a new transmission for vehicle since it has been modified and no 2000 transmissions are available. Ford field rep visisted dealership and has told them to put a "patch" on the shift assembly and "see if that will work". When I questioned Ford field rep who the next person in chain of command to speak with about problem, he indicated there was no one above him; that he resolves all problems. Dealership has bent over backward to try to help me; problem seems to be with Ford corp. Ford's customer care service dept. Has not responded to my e-mail.
Automatic transmission is at times unable to shift out of park into a drive gear, this renders vehicle useless until the gear shift is moveable. Yes the brake pedal is depressed.

Cpnsumer was traveling about 55mph on highway and applied brakes because he was coming to a stand still. Vehicle was in third gear, and the rpms started going down. Consumer shifted gear into neutral, and vehicle cut off without prior warning. Dealership was aware of problem.
While engine braking, engine stalls when downshifting. First had this problem at 1000 miles. Dealer has always claimed the engine is in fine operating condition.
Transmisson needs to be overhauled(rebuilt) due to a malfunction internally through no fault of my own.
When parking, vehicle rolled back when gearshift in park position. Vehicle continued to roll back after stopping and putting gearshift in drive. After tow and repair owner told the cable had become disconnected between the gearshift and transmission. It was reattached and security strap put in place. Dealer reported no knowledge of why it became disconnected.
