3 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

While driving my 2011 Ford Mustang gt, the manual transmission would not allow me to shift into 3rd or 4th gear. I was turning left into an intersection and waas unable to power the vehicle to safely make the turn. After making the vehicle come to a nearly complete stop, I was able to shift into second and get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Luckly the traffic was extra far away or else I wouldn't have had the time to slow and force the car into 2nd gear. This problem seems to be getting worse & the car only has 5k miles.

5 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

On a 2 lane road, speed limit 45 mph. Bus was pulled over in the right lane , slowed down to about 30 mph, an appropriate gap in traffic was coming up. Went to put car into 3rd gear after rev matching and 3nd gear was locked out. Had to swerve back behind the bus and slam on the breaks. This is not the first time a gear has been locked out and caused me to pull over onto the side of the road or shoulder.

6 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/11/2011

2011 v6 Mustang with mt-82 that has about 15k miles on it. It has been notchy in 1st-3rd since the first few hundred miles, and during cold weather is very hard to get into 2nd gear without grinding and popping back out for the first few shifts of the morning. Most disconcerting when my 2nd turn of the day is through a busy 4 lane intersection and it pops out in the intersection. I have started not shifting out of first till I am through the corner. Been to the dealer multiple times with "no issue found".

7 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/07/2011

I am hereby lodging a complaint about the mt82 transmission im my 2012 v6 Ford Mustang, and you may also include my 2011 v6 Mustang as well, as it also suffered the same problem. The date given is not the 1st, nor will it be the last time this has occurred. 99% of the time. . It shifts fine, however. . . Sometimes at low speed the trans will 'grab' the teeth or grind while shifting and shifting at speed(entering a highway or passing slower traffic)will result in gear 'lockout' and over revving. . . . Mostly on upshifts, but sometimes on downshifting too. I know I am one of a growing list(and an 18 year Ford dealer employee)of Mustang owners experiencing this problem. . . Ford needs to get on this before their reputation and the Mustang heritage becomes tarnished!!.

8 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/06/2011

During hard acceleration, with clutch fully depressed and foot off the gas, cannot shift into second and sometimes third gear. Must skip directly to 4th. This occurs even under full acceleration, but not during easy acceleration. Have had numerous close calls because of the inability to quickly shift to second or third. Also had issues shifting from second to third under hard acceleration.

9 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/05/2011

This vehicle is sometimes difficult to shift into gear. Shifting into reverse is a challenge requiring unusually high effort to engage push-down mechanism. Shifting into 1st from standstill is usually difficult and notchy, sometimes requiring me to do it all over again, even when I am blocking traffic. 1st-2nd shifting is sometimes uncertain as is 2-3, 3-4. Downshifting into 3rd and 2nd grinds sometimes. Clutch fully depressed fully at all times during shifts. The transmission also feels and sounds very clunky upon clutch depress/release.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle was hard to shift into gear. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 8,600.

11 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Newly purchased 2012 Mustang coupe v6 has unusual trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gears on the 6 speed manual transmission. . The shifting is not smooth, and feels notched as you slide it into place. Incident occurs daily, and concerns are rising for premature wear on the transmission. Currently inquiries have been made with the dealership, but no action has been taken.

12 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/31/2011

I own a 2011 Mustang gt with the mt-82 transmission. I've owned this car for 10 months and have experienced very unusual shifting behavior for the entire duration of owning this car. The best way to describe the shifting action is that it is really notchy, especially between first and second gears and it sometimes takes quite a bit of effort to get the car to go into any gear. Note that this happens no matter the ambient temperature and no matter how long the car has been running. I have visited the dealer three separate times and been told that, according to Ford, the operation of the transmission is "normal. " this, to me is anything but normal as I have 15 years experience driving manual transmissions exclusively, having owned 14 cars during that span, all of them with manual transmissions.

13 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/31/2011

2012 Mustang gt 5. 0 build 2/11. Shifting into 2nd gear has a little grind but feels better or completely goes away as the car warms up, also when turning shifting from 1st to 2nd has a grind no matter if the car is warmed up or not. I have also been locked out of 3rd gear under acceleration. This appears to be a safety concern as I have to deal with an inconsistent transmission.

14 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/27/2011

Multiple issues with the mt-82 transmission. First one failed within a block from dealership, the car was missing a 2nd gear. Each time the 2nd gear was engaged during acceleration, the gear would pop out to neutral. Very dangerous if in traffic and hills. Transmission replaced only to have serious grinding issues in 2nd gear. Fluid swap done, grinding worse in 2nd-4th gears. 2nd gear lockout in left turn at 45 degrees. 4th gear rattle upon wot. Vehicle no longer fun to drive, waiting to get rid of it as lemon.

15 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/24/2011

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Mustang. The contact stated when accelerating and shifting from first to second gears he noticed that he couldn't fully move the lever into second gear. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,400. The VIN was not available.

16 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/17/2011

2011 Mustang gt, manual transmission, with 11,000 miles on it. Started having some trouble shifting gears with grinding noted around 10,000 miles at 11,800 miles while on vacation, clutch locked up completely and wouldn't go into gear at all. The pressure plate bolts had worked out and sheared off various pieces. The entire clutch assembly had to be replaced. Mustang forums had warned us that this could happen. Dealer told us all the parts were on backorder for unknown time but was able to have the parts shipped from another dealer 1500 miles away.

17 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

I have a 2011 Mustang gt 5. 0l with 6-speed man transmission with 3000miles to date. On several occasions I have been locked out of 4th when trying to get on the highway both heavy and light throttle . One such incident nearly got me rear ended by an 18 wheeler. I am a ase certified technician and feel there is a synchronizer issue with these transmissions since many friends of mine have had similar incidents. Please look into this for I dont want to take it back to the dealer and hear there is nothing wrong with it again.

18 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

Transmission will not go into 1st, 5th and 6th gear. Ford replaced 2000 dollars worth of equipment in my Mustang and it is much worse than before.

19 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

2011 Mustang gt with mt82 manual transmission. About 2500 miles. Car has been in service twice for hard, notchy shifting action whether warm or cold and grinding/popping out of 6th gear. It is very hard to get into gear most times while accelerating and I believe it to be a safety issue. Car is still currently in service and has been for the past month. Please look into a recall/fix for this issue. I know there are many many people experiencing similar problems but are probably not aware they can formally complain. Also this has happened every time I drive the car not just on the date listed.

20 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

I own a 2011 Mustang 5. 0 coupe. Manual transmission. When shifting at higher rev's it is really hard to shift into 2nd and 4th gear when turning or on a curve. I notice this every time I turn left or shift when traveling on a curve to the left. I have not contacted the Ford dealership but will soon.

21 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

22 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

2011 Mustang gt transmission shifting issues. Very hard shifting from first to second and same shifting problem back from second to first. This now takes my attention off the road as i’m now looking down at my shifter to see what’s wrong. I have taken my car back to my local dealer only to be told that nothing is wrong with my car. Shifting is now become a job and driving the car more like work then fun, the car is no longer a pleasure drive and so sits in my garage. Started with 600 miles on the car and as only gotten worst.

23 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

I own a 2011 Mustang gt 5. 0. My car is not a daily driver and is only driven on weekends. This car is 100% stock except for different mufflers. I have had the car since March, 2011 and only have 950 miles on it as of today. The manual transmission in this car is garbage and little scary. I'm 34 and have grown up driving manual transmissions, but this mt82 has a mind of its own. The past few days, I have had problems engaging into 1st gear and grinding into second. At one point I could not shift and feared the vehicle behind me was going to rear end me. From what I understand, Ford has had these transmissions in the new Mustangs for about a year and a half now. However, Ford has done nothing to try to fix the problem. There is a TSB for a lighter transmission oil, but that is it. Ford needs to fix this mt82 before I get rear ended and hurt!!! Ford needs to acknowledge the problem and let new owners know they care about their safety. From what I have seen, Ford is tight lipped and that tells me they don't care about mine or my family’s safety.

24 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

I was sitting at a stop light waiting for it to change and when it did I wasn't ready. So I tried shifting into first quickly and it would not go in, I backed out into neutral and tried again, once again it would not go in. Meanwhile a truck was coming up behind me rather quickly. The third time I tried it was still very tough but it loosened up enough for me to force it into gear, and as I began to move forward I saw the lights on the truck dip hard towards the ground as it slammed on the brakes to avoid rear ending me.

25 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the transmission would not shift when attempting to shift in and out of fifth gear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that this was a known failure, but there was no remedy available. The failure mileage was 1,700. The VIN was unknown.

26 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/12/2011

2012 Mustang v6 manual 6 speed transmission. Hard to shift into 1st gear. Stopped at a red light on pch and topanga canyon with my 3 year old in a baby daughter in the baby seat in the back behind me. I saw a driver behind me coming in too fast. I started prepping if I had to move forward into the intersection that had no traffic just in case. Would not shift into 1st gear no matter what I tried. Quickly I shifted into 2nd and saw the driver smash the breaks while his tires were smoking as he was approaching my rear end in a slide. Car had enough power to move me forward 10 feet and avoid a collision.

27 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

June, 2012 (2012 not a dropdown option). I currently own a 2012 Mustang rtr, this was purchased this year in June with 300 miles on the odometer. I experienced intermittent engagement problems with the transmission with gears 1-3 either upshifting or downshifting pretty much out of the gate. What happens is the gears fail to completely synchronize with the clutch in, resulting in anything from a partial lock-in, which causes the gears to grind, or a complete failure to engage, which requires a shift to neutral and repeated clutching to get a synchronization to occur. Currently the car has approximately 1500 miles and the problem continues on a completely random basis. I have not taken the car back to the dealer as nothing I do behind the wheel can make this happen at will and it wasn't until I was recently informed about the NHTSA's ongoing complaints with this issue that I thought I should voice my issues as well. While these occurrences have mainly been centered around the 2011 model year and have not yet resulted in an accident, I do not wish my model year car to experience a catastrophic drivetrain failure to be considered for a recall.

28 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

I have a 2011 Mustang gt. Starting around 2k miles I began having notchy shifts. Since then (around 5k miles) a slight grind has developed between 1-2, 2-3 shifts. I have also found the transmission occasionally hard to engage first gear from a stop after the car is warm. My car was repaired in an attempt to fix the notchy shifts. The entire clutch assembly was replaced. The transmission fluid was replaced per guidance to the dealership from a Ford tech. After the repairs the shifting was slightly smoother but the notchiness and intermittent grinding remains. I am very concerned that the transmission will get worse or will fail.

29 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

2011 Ford Mustang 6 sp manual transmission. Sproatic problems shifting into and from higher geaar. Car has a tendency to almost stall from stop. I have long experience with manual transmissions. Vehicle delivered 09/10/2010-special order Mustang premium v-6.

30 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

The mt-82 transmission in my Mustang has become increasingly difficult to shift since purchase. Now with only 800 miles on the car, I find myself encountering daily incidents where I am unable to shift from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd without noticeable grind and resistance. I feel this is a safety issue because the problem obviously occurs while accelerating and the traffic behind me is probably not prepared for my car to slow down so much while I fight the shifter.

31 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/30/2011

I own a 2011 Ford Mustang gt and have difficulty shifting gears ,(1-2-3) with the inability to get it into gear several times have come very close to being rear ended. This is a very dangerous problem. Have been to the dealer and am told this is normal operation and that there is no repair. I guess it is cheaper for Ford to pay out a law suit for a death than repair these cars, be it the transmission or clutch or both. This really needs to be looked into. Thank you.

32 Manual Transmission problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/28/2011

2012 Mustang gt 5. 0 1. Merging onto the freeway, could not get the car in 2nd gear. 2. This happens all the time. And could be deadly, 1 of these times, if the drivers don't recognize I can not accelerate up to speed, because im stuck trying to get my car into gear in a panic. 3. Nothing has been done by Ford or the dealer because the say nothing is wrong and it is normal!.

33 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/27/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Mustang gt. The contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle would not down shift. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and stated there was no failure. The manufacturer also stated there was no failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 455 and the current mileage was 17,000. Updated 11/14/11 the consumer stated Ford engineers inspected the vehicle and founds nothing wrong. Updated 11/18/jb.

34 Manual Transmission problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

I was traveling on a busy road and was merging on to a freeway on-ramp that also serves as an off-ramp. When I merged and tried to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, I was unable to get it in to 3rd gear. This caused the car to slow down quickly and since I wasn't braking, the person behind me could only tell by how quickly he/she was getting close to me. No brakes were depressed so no brake lights were showing. After a few seconds I was able to put the car in 3rd gear and continue on. Luckily the person behind me and behind him/her was able to react quickly enough and not run in to my rear end. This occurs on a very regular basis. At least 3-4 times per week will my car not be able to get into a gear. I took my car to the dealer and they said there is currently no fix from Ford. The only fix is to change the fluid in the transmission which has been reported to not improve the problem.
