1 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2008 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/22/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Ranger xl. While driving approximately 50 mph the steering column started shaking. The failure only happens when coming off a down hill ramp curving to the right when coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated the problem was with the composition of the material made up of the vehicles rotors, the steel not being strong enough, leading to early failure of the brake. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 33,500.

5 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/27/2004

1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Pulsating brake pedal,l suspected warped front brake rotors. I had similar problem with 1991 Ford explorer. First occurance in March 2001 Ford replaced rotors under warranty on 2/12/2001, vehicle had 24,170 miles at time of repair. Second time with similar problem at 42717 miles only 18547 miles after first problem on 5/27/2004. Rotors had to be replaced again they were rusty and pitted. I paid for this repair the dealer was going to take it up with Ford rep but claim was denied. I have had numerous conversation with dealership service rep to no avail. One service rep I talked to insinuated that Ford Rangers are prone to this problem. I have called Ford and opened a complaint file. I am convinced Ford has a quality problem with brake rotors on this model. Everyone agrees rotors shouldn't wear this fast. I take very good care of my vehicles.

6 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/21/2004

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT ext. Cab and the brakes started some squealing around 23,000 miles. Well, I took the truck back to the dealer and they had to resurface the front rotors and rear drums. The dealer I think did a great job, it took them 4-5 hours, although they did it at their cost. The pads they said were ok. I talked to Ford already (due to a survey I filled out), and they said they would pass it on to their engineers. What gets me is I also own another Ford and the brakes have never been touched at 68,500 miles! now I have got almost 25,000 miles on the truck and when they heat up and/or you apply them they are barly squelling again. So I guess I will have to either take it back to Ford or get another truck brand. It seems Ford knows something because go look at new Ford Ranger's at a dealership and the brakes are bigger & better!.

7 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

When applying the brakes the front brakes are making a growling noise. Took the front wheel off the truck, checked the brake pads and rotors. The back side of the rotor is deteriorating and in return is eating up the brake pad. Took truck to roberts Ford in wood river, IL. In may 2004 and notified the dealer of the defect. The shop manager refused to fix the problem, told me this was general maintainance. I realize that brake pads are general maintainance but when the brake rotor is eating up the pads this is not general maintainance this is a defect.

8 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/21/2004

After complaints to the Ford dealerabout shaking in the front brakes that they could not find, I took my 2002 Ford Ranger with 27,000 miles on it to my local mechanic who is a napa service center. The shaking became very bad and the mechanic would fit me in the next day to resuface the rotors. They found the silver metal on the rotors was flacking off and they were warped to the point that they could not be turned and were not usable any more. When I got to the garage at 4:30 pm all I could do was have them put on new rotors so I could have transportation to work the next morning at 6:00 am. When I called the dealer the next morning, they said they would not do anything because it was not done at the Ford dealer. I did not ask for payment for the work, just for coverge of the defective rotors.

10 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/16/2003

After 25000 miles, the steering wheel would shake violently when braking at highway speeds. Took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer found that the rotors were warped. The dealer asked if I did a lot of stop and go driving. I explained that I drive 4 miles to the freeway, 75 miles on the freeway at 4:30am, barely any traffic, and then 2 miles to the building in which I work. So no, I do not drive in stop and go traffic. The dealer did not want to cover the rotors under the 3/36 warranty, he said that the brakes were not covered. I explained that I understand that brake pads were not covered, but that the brake rotors are not a consumable items. After 3 days of arguing with the dealer, they finally replaced the rotors under warranty. 25000 miles later, I have the same problem. They are replacing these rotors for free.
