We are original owners of a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT now with 57,000 highway miles, always garaged/washed/maintained, little driving in winter (mostly in summer), always Ford maintained/serviced at same dealership, body/engine/transmission in great shape, will likely fail inspection this sping because frame and frame components are severely rusted out. - severe rust on the entire frame including both cross members (engine and transmission), arm bolt points and control arms. - frame also has severe rust down both sides to rear bumper, rear axle and differental, leaf springs and all mounts. - the passenger side stearing knuckle is delaminating. - all brake lines have failed while driving: first the rear brakes including all axle couplings and drum couplings; second the front brake lines failed at the disk brakes and rubber couplings. All brake tubes had to be replaced from the master cylinder to the wheels. - service manager is worried about front cross member failing under the engine, middle cross member failing under the transmission and the gas tank brackets/straps. - the frame and members and mounts must be replaced; the rest of the vehicle is mechanically sound. Service manager said no repair was possible to frame rust is so bad pictures can be provided and/or vehical inspected by NHTSA if desired. All brake lines and couplings performed around August 29, 2019.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to slow down. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and parked. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

On 20 January 2015, approx 11:30pm while the vehicle was parked in the garage since the previous evening, the vehicle alarm went on on it's own. I went and turned it of f and while trying to figure out why, I smelled something burning immediately there was smoke coming from under the hood. I went into action and got the hood open, I saw flames coming from the switch at the end of the master cylinder. I've noticed the switch before, I did not know what it did, I just thought it was part of the braking system. I managed to put out the fire at that point. The switch was completely burned out, the brake fluid reservoir was badly charred but did not burn through (that would have been disastrous). The following day I was searching for a replacement switch (f3ta-9f924-CA) and found out it was called: speed control deactivation switch and has to do with the cruise control system. Please note that my vehicle does not have cruise control. I further found out that the switch in question had been the cause or reported to be the cause of numerous vehicle fires while parked and no key in the ignition. I contacted a local Ford dealer and was told there were no campaign messages in the oasis reporting (whatever that is). All I know is that the switch caught fired while the vehicle was parked and the web indicates that the switch appears to be the cause of numerous vehicle fires. I was lucky in that I decided to find out why the vehicle alarm went on, had I just turned it off, and gone somewhere else, it would have been disastrous. Please look into the switch situation, it appears to be a dangerous situation. Your assistance appreciated.

Brake pedal on initial press would go to the floor and hit the back stop. A pump would create some pressure but a hard press would still hit the back stop. Dealer confirmed loss of pressure and replaced master cylinder. This is the third on this truck. Previous owner replace master cylinder once and this is the 2nd replacement since I have owned the vehicle. I replaced the master cylinder previously at 96,836 miles.
Drove my 1997 Ford Ranger truck to lunch at work upon returning sitting down for 10 minutes a coworker ran into the plant saying my truck was on fire my master cylinder for my brakes was on fire and was put out there is alot of damage. I believe was caused by defective abs break sensor don't know if there is a recall on them or not hope you can help.

Everytime I press my brake pedal, there is a grinding/pulsating and the vehicle slowly "skids" to a stop, usually only 10-15 feet after I intended on stopping. Less than one (1) year ago, the brakes went out on my 1998 Ford Ranger. The mechanic told me that the abs on the vehicle is where the problem was occurring, yet he didn't know how to fix it. He said the unnecessary pressure being applied by the abs system caused my master cylinder's seals to crack. I paid over $400 for all brake repairs. Ten (10) months later, I'm driving on a freeway at 60 m. P. H. And my exit is approaching. When attempting to stop, I was again left with no brakes. I narrowly avoided a major accident. Thankfully I had the sense of mind to push my emergency brake (which is awkwardly located on a pick-up truck) and avoid a numerous car pile-up on a busy los angeles freeway. I took the vehicle to a new mechanic as well as a pep boys auto center, and was told that the master cylinder's seals were again cracked, and charged over $400 for the same repairs as before. I've searched numerous online forums, and spoken to numerous mechanics and Ford Ranger owners and every single one of them is very familiar with the problem and has faced near-death situations due to this manufacturing error. I would really appreciate a recall as it's the only one to assure the problem is fixed and the safety of others on the road (as the brakes will no longer work without any warning).

Driving at 30mph had to stomp on pedal to stop. . Possible brake booster/master cylinder.
While driving on a curved mountain road at 15-20 mph, the brakes started smoking. The dealer was contacted, and stated that they would have to order a new master cylinder. Would not replace the master cylinder because they only had a present stock of original master cylinders, and they were faulty parts.
While applying the brakes pedal would go to the floor. Failed to bounce back like abs brakes were suppose too. Took to dealership & master cylinder/front brakes were replaced. Brake problem was not solved. Dealership informed owner brakes work with pedal to floor. Due to lack of braking power, vehicle was involved in a wreck.
