1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

While driving the spare tire rack fell from the truck. Since the evap canister from the gas tank is attached to the spare tire rack it to was damaged with the canister being broken open while the rack scrapped on the road. After further inspection of the frame it was found that the gas tank support brackets had fallen completely off leaving only a thin strap supporting the gas tank. The frame also showed extensive corrosion on the front crossmember which supports the lower control arms. Brake line support tabs on the frame were also found to have completely separated from the frame at the weld. These are very dangerous situations and for highway safety and the trucks should be recalled. Thank you in advance for your attention in this matter.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger extended cab. I was driving it and I noticed that my brakes felt really funny so I brought it to my mechanic and he told me that the brake lines were rotted out, but more importantly that the frame was rotted out. The body mounts are rotted out, the shackles are about to fall off. He also said that the frame rails in between the leaf springs are about to break in half, and if this happened to me while I was driving I could have killed someone or myself. I am very concerned about my safety and the safety of everybody else driving a Ford Ranger that is not aware if its issue. I am also now stuck with a truck that needs work done that will cost twice as much as it is worth.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

Vehicle has exhibited severe frame and underbody rust for several years; during last inspection mechanic cautioned that vehicle was badly rusted but still able to pass inspection. I visually inspected the vehicle this evening and found severe delamination to frame members and severe rusting of bed underframe. Crossmember supporting bed is rusted through or non-existent in approximately 40% of surface area. Shock absorber mounts, leaf spring mounts, fuel tank supports, and fuel lines significantly rusted. Approximately one year ago rear brake lines failed at low speed and vehicle nearly collided with parked cars and adjancent stone wall. Mechanic attributed brake failure to rust through of rear brake system. Vehicle was purchased new and is still owned by original owner. Vehicle has been maintained since new and properly cared for.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

Picked up kids from bus stop (5 and 6 years age) with 2001 Ranger parked in gear on gravel driveway grade with emergency brake engaged. Loaded kids and myself, started vehicle and released emergency brake. Brake pedal went to floor, vehicle took off down hill. Pushed and pumped pedal hard to engage rear brake valve; no rear brakes. Engaged emergency brake (now at considerable speed on grade). Left rear wheel locked skidding vehicle to right side on gravel drive, corrected with steering avoiding roll over. Subsequent inspection revealed extensive premature corrosion to vehicle frame, suspension and brake components. Both front and rear brake lines compromised with catastrophic failure during emergency. My kids and I could have been killed or injured because Ford saved a few bucks using below standard imported steel. Ntsb; are you in some way being paid-off by Ford to ignore the thousands of safety complaints and incidents associated with extensive corrosion on these vehicles? do not even attempt to assign blame on salty eastern roads; many other vehicle driven under identical conditions do not fall apart so consistently and completely. Many undercarriage parts on my Ranger are not even recognizable due to near complete disintegration. My truck has an 'a' title and was rust proofed prior to delivery. I take good care of my vehicles and regularly wash undercarriage. How many people will be injured or killed before action is taken?.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

I hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I was lucky that I was going relatively slow and there was no traffic. Brake line from abs unit to rear brake hose had failed. I am surprised that this hasn't been a recall as I have two friends with Ford Rangers who have had the exact same failure. One resulted in as crash. I also informally ask other Ranger owners and many have had the same failure. I have owned many other cars, for longer time periods and far more milage without this kind of failure.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

2003 Ford Ranger steel brake line rotted and failed. 26,000 miles well maintained vehicle. Cause brake failure. Fortunatly no accident incident. Steel line rotted at fitting over rear axle where it attaches to flex line to the axle housing. Other rust and corrosion issues plague this vehicle.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

Reporting numerous serious safety problems with vehicle since purchased used ---original occurrence date not certain but over a number of years mechanical failures occurred that could have resulted in serious injury or fatalities. The failures include but not exclusive to entire brake system failure due to brake lines corroded and leaked all hydraulic fluid --rear body support system gave out during driving and rear wheels and axles not attached to body ---vehicle lost control and went off into shoulder--radial axial arm rusted away and steering system failed while driving. Gas leaks from top of tank if filled to full --leaks on to ground and could result in gas fire and explosion --do not fill tank more than 3/4 ! all brake lines should be replaced and frequent checks of steering and suspension. I am reporting this to make owners aware and take precaution to prevent injury or death. .

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. While driving 10 mph after accelerating from a stop, the contact made an abrupt stop and the brakes failed. She drove home at a low speed and, once there, she noticed brake fluid pumping out of the brake lines. The vehicle was towed to a local muffler shop the following day. The contact was informed that the brake lines had corroded through the passenger side rear brake lines. No repairs have been made because the parts have not yet arrived. The failure and current mileages were 50,170.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/29/2008

There is a lot of frame rust on my truck. Especially where the frame connects to the bed. I had to replace both the rear spring shackle brackets, both broke off because of rust. Twice there was a hole in the brake line, luckily I saw this when the car was parked and now while I was driving which could have been very dangerous. The rear bumpers paint has peeled off and the now is very rusty and it could fall off at anytime.

15 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/15/2004

I lost air pressure in air shocks I had installed on the vehicle. Upon inspection, I discovered that the rear brake fluid lines had rubbed a hole in the bladder on the air shocks. The brake line was also damaged, and had worn almost through, with about 75 percent of the thickness gone. I then inspected all rear brake lines, and discovered that both rear brake lines were severely damaged from rubbing on the shock absorbers, and in one spot on the left side of the vehicle where the line passes through a hole in the frame, the line was almost completely cut through. I pulled the affected lines away from the shock absorbers, and secured them with plastic harnesses. I also put a 2 inch long piece of one half inch I. D. Pvc pipe on the line that passed through the frame. I have seen other trucks like mine, and all of the trucks I have seen have this problem. Obviously, if un- repaired, this condition could lead to loss of brake fluid, and brake failure. Also the damage to the shock absorbers was severe, and they need replacement.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/08/1998

My pickup had undiagnosed braking difficulties since a mileage of 150. The brake pedal will not depress, then breaks free, greatly increasing my reaction time. This occurs up to 25 times per day in varying degrees. Freeway Ford Mercury has attempted to diagnose the problem with the help of the manufacturer representative. They have replaced the power brake booster twice, the proportioning valve, linkage, and other suspected faulty parts to no avail. On the third visit it was found that my right rear brake cylinder has never worked. This was replaced, but had no affect on the sticking brake pedal. Following this visit, the Ford hotline advised that I drive the truck 1,000 additional miles in hopes that it would.
