The contact owns a 2004 Ford Ranger. While driving at
approximately 55 mph, there was an abnormal scraping sound coming from the engine and then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home where it was inspected by an independent mechanic. The mechanic advised that a valve spring had fractured and as a result, a piston fractured into the cylinder causing the engine failure. The manufacturer advised there was no recall for the failure and the contact would be responsible for any repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 39,304.

A rattle in the engine compartment of a 2002 Ford Ranger (64,000 miles) attributed to the timing chain. No damage yet, but I have asked around and found this to be a widespread problem and in some cases, leading to engine failure.

I bought a 2002 Ford Ranger in April of 2006 and now there seems to be an issue with the oil pressure sensor on the engine failing the sensor causes the gauge to "twitch" I bought the vehicle with this unknown defect has there been a recall on this matter? I have visited some on line bulletin boards and it seems to be a common defect.
While driving the engine failed. The dealer informed the consumer that nothing could be done. Ford had issued a recall on the 3. 0 engine, but the consumer suggested that maybe this problem pertained to the 4. 0 engine as well.
