While starting vehicle my wife was notified by her CO-worker that gas was leaking onto the pavement under the driver's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to our dealer where we purchased the vehicle. We were told by the service manager the high pressure fuel line was damaged possibly by road debris, which we had replaced by the dealer. However being the vehicle is a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck with 42,523 miles I feel this should be a safety concern due in part that if my wife's CO-worker did not see the problem and my wife continued driving the vehicle certainly a fire and possibly serious injury or death could have occurred.

2005 Ford Ranger pick up. Dies without any notice and at any speed or just at a stop sign. Has been to the shop and had fuel pump, vent tube, inertia switch and a circut replaced. Still once in a while (not weekly or daily) it will still fail. Service department even said they were only guessing when it went in for repairs as it was showing a computer sign (sometimes) of a secondary fuel failure. This is a very unsafe truck and should be taken back as a lemon! dealer even stated that Ford does not even know the cause. My family members will not even drive this truck in fear of getting in a wreck or stranded. Should be returned and crushed before someone gets killed in it. Does no good to continue to take it to the dealership or call Ford as they don't know how to fix it!.

The emergency fuel cut-off switch on our new 2005 Ford Ranger is easily broken by a 6 foot tall person sitting in the passenger seat. We have already broken the switch just by having my 6' 3" son sitting in the passenger seat. It is right where the feet of a tall person would naturally go. This could be a serious safety issue if it was broken on a crowded freeway.

The fuel line came loose at the fuel filter allowing the gas to be pumped out under the truck. Although their was no fire it was a very dangerous situation as the fuel tank was empitied, with the fuel being sprayed all over the underneath of the truck, including the exhaust system. I fell this is an extreme safety hazard and should be a recall situation befor someone is seriously injured or dies from this defect.

Truck was parked in airport parking lot. When picked up and engine turned on, fuel spewed out from an apparent failure in the connection of fuel line. No injuries resulted; clamp on line has either been broken/disconnected/failed. Repairs have been completed. Incident had no immediate adverse consequences, but significant potential disaster. Dealer offered no explanation for failure except "these things happen. ".
After filling gas tank, vehicle was driven approximately nine miles and went from a full tank to less than a half tank of gas. Vehicle was covered in gasoline. Vehicle was towed to nearest dealership for repair. After review of NHTSA web site identified that this is not an isolated incident. Concerns were raised with repairing dealership as well as selling dealership. Requested failure analysis of failed part to determine root cause of failure, informed that dealerships do not have personnel trained to do this. Informed dealerships that I do not feel vehicle is safe and would like them to take the vehicle back due to it only being 35 days old and 1700 miles, told them that I would consider the purchase of a different Ford vehicle. Was informed that Ford does not have a buy back program and any negotiation would have to be dont with regional Ford rep. Waited until 12/11 to her from rep and she was in a meeting and told me she would call me back. After not hearing from rep for over a week I began to leave her voice mail and still did not get a return call. Continued to call customer relations line and dealership and still did not hear anything on my concern. Finally heard from Ford rep on 12/15 and was offered and esp 5 yrs 75k miles, informed rep this was unacceptable due to the length of my time that was wasted on this issue. Rep informed me that there is not a problem with the fuel line on the Ranger, I informed rep that there are other documented cases of this on the NHTSA web site. Ford rep became defensive and ended up hanging up on me. While waiting to hear from this rep I requested a dsb application and it took three requests to finally get one, this took from 12/21 until 01/16 to recieve, never recieved a phone call from dealership after requesting dsb app as informed by customer line that I would. Currently in process of submitting dsp app. Problem unresolved pending results of dsb.
At 30 mph vehicle began to shake and check engine light came on. We stopped and call for a tow truck. When we looked under the truck we saw gasoline pouring from the area around the gas tank and onto the exhaust system.
While coming to stop, downshifting or making a turn, vehicle stalled unexpectedly which may have caused a crash. Dealer could not determine the cause. Fuel line broke, causing a fuel leakage which may have caused a fire if there was a source of ignition. Please provide further information.
While driving about 65 mph, driver noticed a rapid decrease in the fuel gauge. Owner pulled truck over and a large puddle of fuel formed on the ground immediately. After crawling under the truck, owner and fireman were able to see the that fuel line fitting came apart because the retaining ring was defective. Truck was towed to the dealership. The problem has been corrected.
This is the third time the same problem has occurred in a period of approximately 5 months. The first instance occurred on the freeway at 60 mph, with a sudden and complete failure of the engine as the fuel pump relay failed (according to the service dept. Of the Ford dealer). The second failure also occurred on the freeway, again at highway speeds. The same service dept. Replaced the entire fuel pump. The third incident occurred tonight, again on the road with no warning. This is a very significant safety issue -- twice I have been abruptly left powerless in a freeway with no way to move the truck.
