I left my truck for inspection on 12/9/13. It would not inspect because of a small leak in one of the flexible fuel line cables that lead from the main fuel line to the engine. This part was supposedly on recall at some past date. The NHTSA recall is #94v111001. I never received any correspondence on this recall. Unfortunately, Ford informs me that the part is discontinued, and my mechanic is unable to find a replacement part anywhere. I am currently trying to find a machine shop that can make the part. My question is "do I have any options that I could pursue against Ford".
Strong smell of gas fumes. 2010 Ford Ranger taken to dealer. Dealer reported a split in the fuel line. Fuel line was protected by a shield. No appearance of visible damage to fuel line. Cost of repair $538. 00. Vehicle had 55,000 miles on it. Fumes could be detected outside of vehicle, and would build up in closed shop area, which lead to investigation of the odor. Manufacturers defect of line.

In the 2000 Ranger, they put a plastic fitting the slides on to the fuel pump held on with a clip, the other end is a hose connects also with a clip, this is a vert serious and dangerous problem, its leaking so bad,I feel like a bomb, praying nobody throws out a lit cigarette, this should have been stainless steel or brass, but to cut cost Ford puts a 50 cent plastic piece, they should be fine or something, I'm on disability, went over a year with no money coming in,they want 197. 00 for this 50 cent piece, the government should check into this, again I get screwed,I cant afford to fix it,so when it blows,bi hope my wife is not with me and no other cars are close, trust me its going to happen. I wrote Ford and they say its out of warranty, what do I domits hard enough to pay the monthly payment. Ford should be responsible,as well as your safety association, how can you pass such a important and dangerous part made of plastic???? how, don't you care about american lives,or any lives, our nation is disgusting, they keep raising prices and using the cheapest parts. I'm going to start blogging to find other people with this problem, and try to take legal action against Ford and your association. I need help,I don't want to be a Ford victim for a 50 cent part that they could fix now that I brought this dangerous problem to their attention. Remember, have you driven a Ford lately,no,not as often as I need to,,I know you will get back to me when you can,I hope im still alive to receive your response.

Fuel leaking around filler top. First time service replaced the hose clamp, but now the filler top is cracked. Oem replacement part is $500 plus labor of removing gas tank , etc. Odor a problem and potentially a fire hazard. Gas stations do not want to put gas in leaking vehicle either.
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger, the sending unit on the fuel line is made of plastic, this is the most dangerous part of the vehicle. It should be stainless steel or brass, I cant drive the truck because not only is my life in danger but also cars around me,this is not a drip it gushes out . They say to cut cost but they raise the price thousands of dollars each year. Please don't say its just my vehicle, I called junk yards in maryland, virginia, delaware and pennsylvania, they cant be found. How in gods name can you approve this 50 cent fitting . I can only guess someone was paid off by Ford to get this passed. Shame on you,you are paid to protect the people of this country, instead you get rich and we die, I won't stop, im going to the press, and any one who will listen. I hope you or your family drive one of these vehicles, and I hope it explodes right in front of you and you can watch your family burn alive. Shame on you. Your supposed to look for these problems,if its not a problem why can't any be found in junk yards. I did nothing, just started to smell gas. Im on disability,I have to pay for this Ranger every month while it sits. And Ford, this little plastic piece with about a 12 inch tube coming off it. Ford wants 200. 00 for plastic and our government bails these [xxx] out. I hope alkida targets Ford next,I will root for them, all management and people who make these decisions including you and your corrupt organization. I hope they get you all. 1997 Ford Ranger XLT ,date is approximate since filler hose slowly cracked and got worse, smelled fuel constantly since 80,000 miles and had to eventually spend 600. 00 to get it fixed at Ford dealership for what looked like a small rubber hose, I would have replaced myself but could not locate oem replacement anywhere else including all auto stores (dealer only part), this was a very dangerous situation, I considered it a timebomb. Thankfully nothing dangerous happened before I took it to dealer, though doing a internet search revealed a common problem for the certain years of Ford Rangers which some people due to cost are replacing with a common rubber hose which is very dangerous and has static that could make it go up in flames.
1997 Ford splash Ranger short bed truck leaking gasoline from the fuel filler hose where it connects to the fuel tank. The hose is cracked but not rotten and fuel leaks on the ground when filling the tank and also when the tank is near full. Definite fire hazard.
1997 Ford Ranger XLT short bed truck leaking gasoline from the fuel filler hose where it connects to the fuel tank. The hose was cracked but not rotten and fuel would leak while filling the tank and also when the tank was near full, but always had fuel vapors escaping. A fire hazard and excessive hydro carbon emissions.
The contact owns a 1997 Ford Ranger. The contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline emanating from his vehicle and noticed gasoline leaking from the fuel tank. A fire could erupt in the presence of an ignition source. He took the vehicle to his local mechanic and had the filler hose replaced. The manufacturer would not assume responsibility for the failure because the vehicle exceeded its warranty. The failure mileage was 141,000 and current mileage was 142,000.
The contact owns a 1997 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that both the inner and outer hoses cracked and caused a significant amount of fuel to spill out from the top of the fuel tank when it is filled. The dealer was notified and they stated that it would cost $600 to repair. The manufacturer stated that they could not assist with the repairs because the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was 139,609 and current mileage was 139,839. Updated 2/9/09 the dealer replaced the fule filter. Updated 02/13/09. Updated 07/20/09 updated address. 07/21/09.
Fuel line failure 1996 Ford Ranger driven weekly. Traveling on a two lane paved road at posted speed. "check gauges" warning light came on. Fuel gauge below empty (had started trip 40 minutes earlier with 2/3 tank). Pulled over at first safe opportunity and stepped out of truck. Strong smell of fuel and gas pouring on the ground. Stopped engine and the fuel stopped pouring. Had local tire store drop the tank. They found a crack at a 90 degree bend in the plastic hose leading to the fuel sending unit. The house appears to have been rubbing against some surface between the top of the tank and the body. New assembly ordered from Ford ($128) with an installed price of $416. I retained the old fuel line assembly. Fuel was being pumped onto the top of the tank and on the underside of the truck. I feel very lucky to have avoided a fire.

After smelling a strong fuel odor I found the fuel filler hose has many small cracks where it fits on to the fuel tank, and leaks fuel when gas tank is filled. I have replaced the fuel filler hose to correct the problem, I do have the old hose available.
The fuel filler hose has a hole in it, therefore when you fill up your vehicle; gas leaks out onto the ground. I was not aware of a problem until I was fueling one day and I ended up with a puddle on the ground. This is not only a fire hazard, but also an environmental one too.
Fuel tank filler neck cracked.
The contact owns a 1996 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that the fuel tank hose leaks. On August 8, 2007, he noticed that the tank was swelling from the inside and was split. The current and failure mileages were 60,000.
Gas fill hose defected and cracked, I tried to get one from salvage yard and the guy told me every hose they tried to save was also cracked in the same place and that he has people coming in all the time asking for the same hose for a 95 through 97 there is a strong gas vapor and poor gas mileage resulting from hose a new hose can only be purchased for a Ford dealer and the cost is around 258. 00 I have not yet replaced the hose because of the cost and I don't wont to sped all this money if I will have the same problem 3 years later I did try to repair hose by patching it with a tube repair kit because of the cost but it didn't correct my problem with the gas vapors. It worries me that a fire could result or the fumes could be harmful to my health and the environment.
This complaint is in reference to a 1997 Ford Ranger and fuel filler hose being faulty. The hose itself has cracks in it and leaks fuel upon refill presenting a fire hazard as well as an environmental hazard due to the fuel vapors that are allowed to escape to the environment due to the cracks in faulty fuel filler hose. This is a potential fire hazard and an environmental protection agency issue. Please put forth an effort to correct problem before fire, injuries, and , potential deaths are sustained, issue a recall.
The contact stated this was a company fleet vehicle and it was leaking fuel. The vehicle has not been to a dealership. The company had another vehicle with the same fuel leaking problem due to a broken fuel line. The contact assumed the same problem existed with this vehicle since the fuel was leaking from the same area.

1) on the evening of 11/14/05 I stop at a gas station to fill up my tank. After I filled up the tank I could smell a strong smell of gasoline. I checked to make sure that I didn't spill any when removing the nozzle. I looked under my car and I could see a gas leak dripping at a moderate pace. I immediately called a friend who works on cars and he told me to take it to the mechanic to avoid catching fire from the fumes. 2) the very next morning I took the car to my mechanic and he told me it was probably a crack in the filler hose. He also mentioned that they have seen many Ford Rangers with the exact same problem. 3) my mechanic was correct on diagnosing the leak and I had to have a new gas tank filler hose installed. The overall cost was $458. 60 and I lost a full day of work.
While fueling vehicle fuel spilled from the top of fuel tank creating a environmental and safety issue. While traveling home fumes made both occupants feel sick. Upon inspection found the fuel filler hose split due to Ford oblonging the hose for bed clearance with a metal clamp. Went online to a Ford chat forum and found this to be a common issue with Ranger trucks. This needs to be addressed before someone gets killed.
I thought I could smell gas for about 6 weeks. Last week while putting gas in my 1997 Ford Ranger pick up some one told me I was spilling gas on the ground. The gas tank filler hose was cracked at the tank and gas was spilling out. It was a rotten hose. I still have it.
I smelled gas while driving. I checked under the hood and gas was spraying from a leak. The leak was caused by abrasion where the line contacted a hard plastic "protective cover". It could have blown up! this appears to be a defect.

Fuel line severely cracked above gas tank. Openings were directly above tank, only visible with the bed removed. Strong gas odor after driving or during refill were the only indications of problem.
On 6/7/20 04 consumer filled vehicle up with fuel, and went to work. When she got off work and went to her vehicle she witnessed a puddle of fuel on the ground. Consumer immediately took vehicle to the dealer and had it checked out. She was told that who ever repaired the vehicle before botched the repairs, and may have cut a line.

We were on the kansas turnpike heading home to dallas, the truck when we entered the turnpike had 2/3 of a tank of gas by the time I glanced down again it was at empty this occurred within a few miles, we where able to pull into a service station where the leak was seen, the truck was towed into the next town where in the next morning it was discovered that the "white clip" had come loose from the fuel filter to the line. We feel very fortunate that we only lost gasoline, and that no fire or explosion occurred. We would appreciate you looking into this as the next person may not be as lucky.
The vehicle shook and the engine failed completely when the consumer accelerated to a speed of 89-90 mph. The dealer indicated that the vehicle was equipped with a fuel cut off device which could cut off fuel at a speed over 85 mph.
While driving consumer heard clicking noise coming form engine compartment and then suddenly vehicle lost all power . Consumer immediately pulled over to the side, and wiithin seconds cab began to fill with smoke. Consumer got out, and within 15 seconds flames went through the hood, and melted all engine com partment fire department came out, and stated and cause was possibly due to fuel pump or fuel lines.

My son was driving his Ford Ranger p. U. On the freeway in san diego and noticed his fuel gauge dropped very fast. He re-fueled at service station and upon returning to freeway, two passing cars flagged him over to the side of the freeway and told him gas was spraying out from under his truck. Apparently the fuel filter had come loose from the fuel line and could have had catastophic results if it had ignited. I have read similarcomplaints on this web site and can't imagine why something has not been done about this problem. I had to pay the cost to repair his truck along with a rental car,tow truck and loss of nearly two tanks of gas, even though I have an extended warranty. Ford should be made responsible to make restitution in such cases, as this appears to be a manufacturer defect. This is a very unusual event to have happen on a motor vehical and should be looked into.
Fuel cut-off switch is assembled incorrectly, comes to0 close to passenger's seat and if bumped, it shuts off the fuel.
When gas tank is full, a leak is present at the hose that leads to the tank. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
When driving the fuel line cut off switch failed.
