1 Radiator problem of the 2008 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

The dash lights would blink intermediately and if the truck was turned off while that is happening, the engine immobilizer would engage and the truck would not start. I drove the truck this way for a while and just let it run and not shut it off. Ford didn;t know what was causing it. Eventually I found out that the wiring harness that came together in a y shape, and was supposed to be securely taped only had one strand of tape wrapped around the wires. The metal, where the wires went through had rubbed through the one strand of electrical tape and into one of the wires occasionally shorting it out, thus setting off the engine immobilizer. I bought the truck new so it had to have came from the factory that way. It had less than 50 thousand miles when it started and you would never know when it was going to do it, sitting, driving, city, highway, but usually always running, unless it was shut off while it was doing it and then tried starting it again. It would not crank over , just like there was no battery in it. It was my first new vehicle and what a disappointment. The truck was wired for fog lights but no lights themselves in it, just plastic covers. The short was on the fog light wire where the wires went through the front metal pannel the radiator was bolted on. I wrote in before complaining about this but had not found out what it was then. Ford said it may be the cluster, but it wasn't. They also said they didnt know for sure what it was. It went on last year till I fixed it this year with a roll of electrical tape that Ford was either too cheap to use or poor workmanship. It started last year and took me till this year to fix it.

2 Radiator problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

The engine was 'not right' one day so the hood was opened in the bank parking lot and it appeared to be overheated. The temperature gage did not indicate this but the radiator was indeed without water. The radiator was filled and later checked out at the shop. It was determined that the temperature gage was not accurate and an external gage was added (a separate gage not part of the dashboard). The engine was never the same and has since needed to be replaced (with a remanufactured) due to being overheated. This was preventable if the temperature sensor had been operating properly. It was not broken (ie registered zero all the time), it was . . Bad or wrong sensor for the gage? don't know really. The vehicle had less than 90000 miles.

3 Radiator problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

Loud squeal for several days thought it was tension pulley. That was replaced with no change. A few days later going down the road. A very loud squeal from the engine area and smell of burning rubber. Later was determined the vibration dampener had come apart. The rubber had come part allowing the groove section the belt rides on to slip toward the back up against the front cover. In looking online for information it was discovered this is a common problem with explorer and Rangers with the 4. 0 engine. A lot occur with low miles on the vehicle and some result it major repairs as the pulley flies off taking out the radiator. I was able to replace mine because I am a mechanic and have the tools to do the job. So my repair bill was not as much as others had stated.

5 Radiator problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/20/2003

While traveling on cruise control at 70 miles per hour, the vehicle decelerated. The dash board lights lit up and truck would not restart. Temperature gauge indicated not overheating, water was in radiator, oil was at the full mark on the oil dip stick. No fluids leaked from the engine. My vehicle is at the Ford dealership in owatanna, mn. I have been told by a Ford dealership technician that he believes it to be pieces of the gasket around the oil pump that blocked the flow of oil to the engine seizing the valves in the engine. Apparently it happens frequently to his knowledge. Also , I know of another Ford Ranger that experienced unexplained engine failure this past week. I have maintained oil changes within the manufacturer's recommendation during the time I have owned the Ranger. The vehicle has only 69136 miles on the odometer. At this juncture the extended warranty service and the dealership have not resolved method of replacing the engine.

6 Radiator problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/11/2000

Both front shocks have leaked oil out, uneven tire wear, cracks inside bumper, headliner and other body joints shifting position, left radiator mount compressed badly. This is the second Ranger I have seen this on today.

7 Radiator problem of the 1996 Ford Ranger
