1 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

I have my vehicle in a shop to replace the transmission. While working on the vehicle the mechanic noticed the front reservoir of the master cylinder was empty. Upon further examination, he found that the speed control sensor under the master cylinder was leaking and brake fluid is leaking on all the components below, I. E. Transmission, steering components, etc. I looked the issue up online and I found that there was a recall for this very issue with Ford. When I checked my VIN for active recalls, the NHTSA website states that there are no unresolved issues with my vehicle.

4 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/30/2015

2002 Ford Windstar sel with VIN 2fmza534x2bb28176, I am the third owner of this vehicle. The abs and traction control system is damaged and has a recurring warning when the engine is started with the abs / brake and traction control warning lights on. The person I purchased this van from (2nd owner) stated that he had all the recalls completed on this vehicle however he believed that the defect identified in Ford safety recall 09s09 for the speed control system has resulted in damage to the abs system computer and/or associated harness wiring or harness connections. He (2nd owner) did not keep the repair orders for any of the recall repairs so I do not have any records to review. I believe that the wire harness, related wire harness connectors and the abs system computer are damaged resulting from brake fluid leaking and/or corrosion related to the defect found in Ford safety recall 09s09. I believe that the Ford dealership that performed this recall failed to properly repair or identify collateral damage in the wire harness and abs system computer as noted in recall repair procedure. The vehicle is currently not repaired and the abs system is not functioning as designed (non-functioning), I believe this is a safety hazard. 5 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

Brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) switch is leaking brake fluid.

6 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/18/2014

Vehicle had a recall on the speed control deactivation switch (scds) in 2009, repair was done by installing jumper as scds was not leaking. Took vehicle to dealer as brake light was on. Found leaking scds to be problem. Ford contacted to cover repair as scds was known to be bad when recalled in 2009, but was not leaking. The leaking scds caused the jumper (installed during recall) to go bad and leak brake fluid out of scds. Ford advised that "sorry, there is nothing we can do because the recall had been done. " customer care personnel elevated concern to supervisor, who also reiterated Ford's stance that the original recall had been performed and there was nothing that could be done. Our concern is for the safety of my family and children who get taken around in this vehicle. Ford kept saying, "sorry. . . " case was closed with no action on safety issue. I guess loss of brake fluid from a known bad part is of no concern to Ford. Repair for bad part and previously recalled part and labor was over $200. Ford knew part would leak and advised dealers to replace scds if leaking during inspections. For knew the texas instruments part was bad, but only changed the ones leaking. If it leaked after the recall work was done, it would be the customer's responsibility.

9 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

During the course of normal driving, on a Ford Windstar with less than 100k miles, the abs system failed. The abs/tc/e-brake lights all came on, permanently. I had to have the system replaced, at extensive cost. In online research it turns out this is a fairly common problem, potentially due to leaking fluid from the scds component. Nhtsa please make Ford deal with this!.

11 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

Red brake light and yellow abs light on at same time. At first intermittent then more likely on than off in June of 2014 I found leaking brake fluid from switch on bottom of master cylinder and found brake fluid leaking to numerous electronic components causing o/d light to come on intermittently speedometer would stop working odometer shows - - - - - in place of mileage. Learned of recall via internet and took vehicle to ron carter Ford 3005 fm 528 alvin TX 77512 on 07/17/2014. They explained that in spite of all damage caused the only thing they would do was replace leaking switch with new one as mandated by the recall. They replaced this switch and returned vehicle with all of the same problems including brake fluid inside the transmission range selector switch and vehicle speed sensor directly underneath master cylinder. I cannot tell if the vehicle still presents a fire hazard or not as there is still brake fluid everywhere. Ron carter refuses to look at vehicle or provide any further repairs even though this is clearly all related to the recall.

12 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

Ecu module for abs is shorted out and causes gauge cluster to short out. This causes abs light & brake light to turn on and all gauges stop working and they jump around . This was diagnosed by Ford dealership in WI. Said brake fluid leaks in to ecu and shorts out wires . Told me . $2000. 00 to fix . These problems are a safety issue . Abs and speedometer and gauges don't work . Should be a recall .

13 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

My speedometer, abs light, and o/d off light all are on. The master cylinder was leaking brake fluid everywhere. I replaced the bottom part with a factory Ford part. The leaking has stopped, however the brake fluid leaked all over and has caused severe damage to the vehicle. I believe Ford should be held liable for this and replace all computers and parts that were affected by .

16 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

18 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 04/08/2013

I purchased a 2000 Ford Windstar. N 4/6/13, I was going 20 mph and the brakes were failing, I pulled into lentz. They repaired everything I could think of. After having my brakes completely repaired the brakes failed again. Bring it back to lentz, with thousands of apologies and promises to fix it right. They repaired even more of the brake system. . The brakes abs system light still comes on, brakes seem to not work ok. So I bring to Ford to have the recalls checked. They said that my master cylinder was leaking again and explained to me that this was a recall from before, and that they already installed a jumper and fuse for it so it wont fail or leak. But apparently it's still leaking and faulting out. So I asked them to fix it, they would not. I called corporate, and they will not budge. Ford will not fix it because they claim it has already been worked on that particular recall and they said they don't "redo" recall work. So that being said they told me, I would be safe driving it like this. That it's no biggie and it wont hurt anything if brake fluid is leaking a little tiny bit by the switch. I am a single mom with kids. I bought it then I put over 2650 dollars so far into this stupid van. Everything has gone wrong. From front axle to brakes, to no heat, electrical crazy stuff going on. Of course they never find it or it apparently don't act up when they test it all. I'm terrified to drive this van. Absolutely terrified of it. They even told me to "be careful, as it may catch on fire by the master cylinder" after telling me they dont redo old recalls!! I guess they put a bracket kit on the front subframe as part of recall but now it has more play int he wheel, I feel like I have to really steer to keep it in between the lines. They should fix my cylinder abs problem no matter what its their manufacturing defect. ! tons of other safety problems with this van too.

19 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/09/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that there was an unknown fluid leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the abs module and brake booster were defective which caused a brake fluid leak. The dealer replaced the abs module. The failure mileage was 93,850. Mah.

20 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 1998 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/21/2013

Brake fluid all leaks out wear hole in brake fluid tube to rear brakes between frame and gas tank. Causing virtually no braking power. Drivers side near rear wheel. Would require 200. 00+ to repair.

21 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/23/2012

Brought in van for recalls 09s09, 10s13 and 11s16. This was for the subframe issues and speed control switch. Speed control switch was supposed to address leaking brake fluid. Brake fluid still leaking and now dealership is charging me for brake switch repair and bleeding of brakes. Also abs light came on after service and now dealership says abs sensor needs to be replaced. I believe these are all related to original recall but dealership says no.

22 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

I took my vehicle for a recall for the rear axle a year ago and they sprayed some sealer on it and said it was good to go. So now the axle is cracked, and ready to snap. What should I do? also there is a recall on the brake pressure deactivation switch on my vehicle which is leaking brake fluid on the wiring harness. I shouldn't be driving it, but I need to get to boston. Again what can I do about this?.

23 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/20/2012

Approximately a week ago, the #10, 15 amp fuse was blown. Replaced it with an approved fuse and blew right after I started van up. I had noticed some liquid on garage floor about 2 days before the fuse blew, the "brake" light on dashboard was lit up. I checked the brake fluid level and it was very low. When I added fluid, I noticed there appeared to be a leak of fluid on the front, underside of the master brake cylinder. I had a friend who is a mechanic look at it and he told me the master cylinder could be bad, but looked like the pressure switch was where the leak was originating. Upon further inspection, he noticed there was a wire harness that was soaked in brake fluid and beneath another one was wet. He attempted to clean both of them and replaced fuses, but after using the brakes the first time(going out of the driveway) I heard a "pop" and the fuse was blown again. This particular fuse controls the odometer, speedometer, the abs light on dashboard. The amount of fluid going onto the engine is a good probability of a fire starting when the leaking brake fluid is on the hot engine. This seems to be an increasing problem and needs to be recalled.

24 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/03/2012

Brake fluid is leaking from somewhere near the master brake cylinder. It probably has something to do with the brake pressure differential deactivation switch.

25 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

Abs and brake lights come on. Go off when vehicle is turn off and back on. Problem is intermittent. Less so in cooler weather. Front and back brakes check out o. K. No sign of fluid leak in brake system, however abs seems nonfunctional. Had dealer check lights. Said couldn't find a problem with the brakes and that the abs module might be bad. Read that numerous other owners have the same problem. I feel that these cars were assembled with defective abs modules.

26 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

Abs trouble light keeps coming on and going off. It was checked and the mechanic said it was safe to drive if I didn't want to spend the money. I have found out that the connector is absorbing fluids and shorting out. This shorting out happens mostly in warm weather. In sub 0 weather the light pretty much stays off. There is still a chance of fire when it is shorting out. I complained to Ford and was told there was no recall on this item. They gave me a case number for my complaint. It is #4013467. This problem is a direct cause of fluids leaking on the modgular connector and heat from engine. Rick.

27 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Abs and brake light would go on and off intermittently beginning around 55000 miles. The mechanic told me Fords were known for this, but should not present a problem. Back wheels started smoking and leaking fluid at 76000. This contaminated the wheel wells and brake pads. The abs/brake light also stay on consistently now. Repaired the problem and ran a diagnostic on the abs. Mechanic told me I had a faulty abs module that the dealer would have to repair. Have not done that yet, looking to see if there has been a recall on this problem. Apparently Ford has not addressed this issue. I have this van to transport my disabled son, now concerned that our safety is at risk.

28 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 04/12/2012

The brake fluid is leaking from the brake pressure differential deactivation switch. I called russ milne Ford my local dealership and where the vehicle was purchased and they said there was no recall, but when I looked it up online it states it is a major problem and could cause a fire. The said it would cost about $90 or so to fix it. I have already put a over $2000 in repairs in the last 2 years on this vehicle. I feel this should be fixed for free being it is a problem that they are very well aware of.

29 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 03/27/2012

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking brake fluid. The brakes were applied and they abnormally traveled to the floorboard. Additionally, the brakes would grind when applied. The brake and abs warning lights were also illuminated when vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of issue. The failure mileage was 155,000 and the current mileage was 175,000.

30 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

Every since I purchased my '02 Windstar, I have had problems with the abs and brakes. I've had the brakes fixed numerous times and both lights still comes on while I'm driving. I had a brake fluid leak from the rear. My dvd and stereo both short- circuited on a month or two after they were installed. Sometimes if I come to a light to stop for a while, when the light turns green, I'll try to give it some gas but it becomes real hesitant and takes a while to pick up speed. The drivers behind me would start to get frustrated with me holding up traffic. Also, when I cut the ac on it takes power away from my vehicle and it threatens to cut off, so I don't turn it on. I also have to replace two oxygen sensors on it. I believe that my abs module is bad as well. I feel that I am putting more money into it than it's worth. Please help me.

31 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/16/2012

As is typical with the Windstar, the deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid. Thus, causing problems with the abs and cruise. Unfortunately, Ford already honored the recall (09s09) on this vehicle. At that time the deactivation switch was not leaking so they installed a wire harness to avoid a fire when it did start leaking. (why put on a wire harness? because they knew the switch was going to fail. Why not just replace the switch in the first place?) now Ford will not re-open the recall to replace the switch and fix the other related problems.

32 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/02/2012

Cruise control deactivation switch leaking break fluid.

33 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

I have been having problems with the abs light and emergency brake light being on intermittently. Sometimes they are both on when I turn the car on. At times they stay on and there are times when it goes off. There are also instances where only the brake light is on and stays on even though the emergency brakes are disengaged. My husband recently changed some sensors and said he notices some break fluid leakage. I am scared to drive my car and fear for my safety and that of my family. I do not want to have a car fire. Please look into this situation as soon as possible. After reviewing your database, I see that I am not the only person having this issue.

34 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 12/17/2011

1999 Ford Windstar: the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) has leaked an excessive amount of brake fluid. The fluid accumulates on the power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. The cruise control has failed and we are fearful that this leaking brake fluid will cause a fire.

35 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/04/2011

Leaking brake fluid with brake and abs light on. Causes loss of brake fluid and is a fire hazard.
