I was driving down the road when the car shut down everything I was scared because I had traffic right behind me going 45mph and then they car would not run again. I was right in the middle of an inter section at hall road and 59 it was the scariest thing that has happened to me. I bought this vehicle as a used auto and I'm not sure if the emmission system ever got changed and this happened once before and the dealer said not to drive with my house keys attached. I had to get the auto towed home.

My husband and I were traveling when the vehicle shut off with no warning at all and all the dash board lights came on. The vehicle would not restart but would turn. This happened Saturday 9/2/17 on a country highway out in nowhere . We called a tow truck. Thank god for cellphones. On 11/12/2016 hub bearings replaced. 11/15/16 module and connector replaced and fuel level sensors and ring replaced. Three years ago a/c went out. Replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 GMC Envoy. While driving at any speed, the engine shut off without warning. The vehicle restarted intermittently. The failure recurred multiple times. The dealer stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 04v289000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
My car will shut off when I am either turning or slowing down without any warning, I put the car in neutral, turn the key off then on again and it starts like nothing happened. The engine doesn't show any warning lights it just shuts off. This has happened now about 6 times. I don't have the money to take it to the dealer, but if I am given an idea of what to look for I can take it to my mechanic who is very qualified and did replace a sensor that went bad. Please help.
Was driving and my car shut down. Had no control of brakes, steering . Lucky I was going straight . This is the second 3rd time this has happened.
While driving my vehicle without any notice whatsoever it will just shut off right in the middle of traffic. This has happen on several occasions. After a few hours of sitting it will start up immediately. They have not been able to diagnose the problem. We have had the fuel canister, ignition switch and evap sensor all replaced it is doing the same thing. By the way I've had the engine replaced, the transmission replaced the leveling boots replaced and still making payments. There was a recall on the fuel sending unit and they told me because of the mileage they couldn't replace it, but they had evidence at 79000 miles that it was bad because I had it diagnose for that same problem. From the time I purchased this truck it has been nothing more than a nightmare. I pray somebody could get me some assistance on this truck.
One day my sunroof worked and the next day it would not. It was stuck in the in the open position (not fully open, but when the front end raises an inch or so). I took it to a gm certified mechanic and they said I would need a whole new assembly and quoted me $2,100. The dealership and gm notified me that they would not help me with this defect at all. My car is in excellent condition with only 85,000 miles on it, but it is only worth $5,000 and I paid over $14,000 for it in 2009 when I bought it from a gm dealership. I cannot afford to lose $2,100 on this vehicle. And this is not the first issue that I have had. When I drove it home from the dealership the whole instrument panel failed. They fixed that. Then a year later, when I was driving home with my new born, the entire car shut down while in motion going 45 miles per hour. The dealership said that it was a problem with the computer and the warranty would not cover it, but it would cover a restoration of the computer. Then when I went to get my vehicle the refused to let me take it until I paid $200. My vehicle has shut down while driving since that and can barely maintain idling at traffic lights at times. Now back to the sunroof, after not being able to afford to fix it the mechanic took out the sunroof and just set it in the frame so at least water would not get in when it rained. However, it is just sitting in there and can easily be lifted out and may even get blown out on the freeway. When exactly will this become a safety hazard? when my sunroof blows off on the freeway and causes a fatal car accident? or when my car completely shuts down on the middle of the freeway and my children and I get killed in a pile up? gm has been convicted of neglecting to recall vehicles with safety issues recently. Clearly, gm refuses to protect its customers. Please help protect consumers and do something about this.

I was driving on the freeway at 65-70 mph. The engine lugged a little like it was running out of gas but the tank was half full. The engine resumed running at full speed. A few seconds later the engine shut off. I was able to coast long enough to pull off the freeway. But without power steering and brakes this was not an easy task. Once the car stopped I turned off the ignition and put the car in park. I tried to restart the car but nothing happened. I called a tow truck but the driver could not get the car to shift into neutral in order to put it on the car carrier because the shifter is tied to the electronics. Without power it does not work. He had to call for another tow truck to pull the vehicle in for service. The service technician tested and found low voltage from the ignition switch. He replaced the ignition switch. Diagnostics, part and labor $307. This is a very dangerous problem. If I was not able to move out of traffic I would have been a sitting duck in the middle if the freeway. Since the rest of the electronics are connected to the ignition I had no safety equipment such as air bags. If I would have been in an accident at freeway speeds, it could have been fatal.
I got home one evening and when I turned the ignition key to shut the truck off the engined continued to run. I was concerned; as I could not leave the vehicle running all night; at that point I tried to engage the key again and the vehicle was still running . I became concerned and started to fiddle with the knobs and was suprised when after turning the highlight switch the engine shut off. The next morning I hestitately attemped to start the vehicle and when I was sucessful I headed straight to the GMC dealer. The dealer said that it was a wiring problem and the ignition wiring had to be redone; (the cost was $1600. 00) I started a dialoge with gm and they engaged me with several conversations; which led me to believe that they would pick up the cost; as electricial components were not part of any scheduled maintenance that I as a owner would be responsible for. When I made a request for reimbursement I was told that because of the mileage there was nothing they could (or would do). I could see if it were related to an oil change. Brakes, filters, etc. But as a owner this item is outside of my area of responsibilty. Gm should stand behind their products and make me and others whole. Ps.
Driving on the interstate at 65 mph. Without any warning the vehicle suddenly lost power. No warnings flashed on the information panel or anything. Able to coast the vehicle to a safe stop. Scared too death! could have gotten killed. Tried several times to restart the vehicle it would not. Waited along side the interstate for 15 - 20 minutes before the vehicle restarted. This vehicle completely shut down without any warning!.
Low enine power light comes on and vehicle shuts down. Sometimes you can restart it with no problems. Now it sputters and has very little power. If you turn on anything it makes it worse. It surges and stalls. It chuggs along until you turn off as may electrical items as possible.
My 2003 GMC Envoy just turns off at any given moment. Out of no where, while driving, waiting at a red light or stopped at a stop sign my car just shuts down/turns off. It's been doing this for years. Very dangerous and unsafe. Secondly the "service engine soon" light on my 2003 GMC remains on. Took it into been serviced by the GMC dealer service department and they couldn't figure out the problem. Now I cannot get my car to pass inspection nor get it register. This is a major problem.
The engine of my 2002 GMC Envoy has stalled twice in the last month while I was driving the vehicle, both time jeopardizing my safety. The first stalled happened while I was making a left turn at night. It stalled and stopped while I was in the oncoming lane on a bend where traffic speed in 75 mph. Luckily no oncoming traffic came before I pushed the car off the road. The engine finally started after about 10 ignition attempts. The second stall happened on the freeway while I was drive at 65 mph. The engine just shut down. I steered to the side of the road. The engine started after I let it rest a minute. 've took the car to a GMC shop after each stall. The first dealer told me they couldn't find anything, that it was probably bad gas. The second dealer said they couldn't duplicate the situation so they can't diagnose the problem.
When reaching 70 mph vehicle shut down without any warning. Vehicle had been reapired three times; however problem still exists.
Consumer states while driving at highway speeds the vehicle shut off and the brakes where not working nothing was working except for the steering, the consumer waited five minutes and then the vehicle started up again. Contacted dealer, the dealer found a loose engine control module.
My 2002 GMC Envoy lost all power three times at high rates of speed. The first time we had it serviced and I was told a module needed replaced. The second time, the car shut down at highway speeds but restarted approximately 15 minutes later but then the same thing happened again the next day while my wife was driving home from work traveling at 65 mph down a highway. We had it serviced again and this time I was told it was due to a loose wiring harnass. Car has had numerous problems since and it is an unsafe vehicle for my family to be transported in.
The engine shut down with out warning while the consumer was driving at 75 mph.
While driving, the engine shut down.
