1 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 2004 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

The contact stated when applying brake pressure the brake pedal pressed to the floor and there was extended stopping distance. This problem was more common on gravel roads. The vehicle has been seen by a dealer several times, and the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the problem. As a result, the contact disconnected the abs sensor. He contacted the manufacturer and they extended the warranty on the brakes. This continued to be an ongoing problem. Updated 1/11/2006 - the transfer case would not disengage properly. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.

2 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

My 1999 GMC Jimmy SUV just started having a problem with the abs braking system. This is posing a safety hazard because it lengthens the time it takes for us to stop. There was an initial recall from gm on this however it is for every make and model SUV except Jimmy. I wonder if it is because the Jimmy is the most popular model and gm wants to save money? I want safety. This is my wife's truck and she drives my 4 year old and 6 year old in this SUV which has difficulty stopping due to the abs problem. We can not afford to have this fixed. I want to know why the 1999 Jimmy is not part of the recall?.

3 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1998 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

The abs light is on in my 1998 GMC Jimmy. I have heard about a recall about this particular item, but my truck isn't qualified for it. I'm wondering why and if there is anything I can do to get it to. There is something with the sensor and corroding in the recall. I believe that may be my problem. I haven't fixed it yet because I was hoping it would be under the recall. What happens is if the light were to come off, my brakes lock up. In the recall, it mentions that this sensor getting corroded causes slow traffic accidents. I haven't gotten into any accidents, but I would like to know if it would be under the recall before I have to spend the money to get it fixed.

4 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1996 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 07/04/2004

Pulled out of parking lot on to road. Applied brakes while approaching a light. Even with both feet on the brake pedal the 1996 GMC Jimmy barely came to a stop from a distance of 6 car lengths going 30 mph. Narrowly avoided rear-ending vehicle in front of me. This was not the first time but the closet encounter. Before this incident I had the front rotors, disk pads, calipers, front flex lines, booster, vacumm hose and connector on engine to booster, master cyl. , and rear brake linings - replaced. Since then I had the vacumm checked from the engine to the booster and was told the booster was bad. I had the booster and masterc replaced again. Still no change. Pedal goes too far down and feels like it hits a brick followed by very weak breaking action.
